He recommended that I have an electrician resolve the problem. I brought in an electrician that verified that I did indeed have 240 volts at the wall socket. This placed the problem in the drier. The electrician was a needless expense. I contacted Master Tech and talked with John the manager about my dissatisfaction with their service. He promised he would call me back in 3 days. Ahhhhh, there's nothing so soothing as a nice sleep when you're not feeling well. You hear the buzz of the TV in the other room, you hear your partner on the phone. You hear the washer's alarm buzzer go, and go, and.... WAIT, WHAT?! You run down the stairs in a daze, wondering if you're really awake. Everything in the basement seems to be sloshing around. A bad dream? Nope! Your real live basement is now a wading pool, with a good 5 inches of water getting the 4th of July swimming party started early. Crap. Run upstairs, yell for a hand, grab the nearest bucket and pan. Assess the situation. Start bailing. Keep bailing. Tell partner to go get a wet/dry shop-vac, keep bailing. Vacuum up the remaining water. Bring out the big fans. Next morning, bring out the gloves, bleach, mops and sponges. Make sure the furnace isn't damaged. Breathe. Call Master Tech. Seriously, these are the guys to phone when you have an ill and/or potentially broken major appliance. For just under $70, they'll send out a spiffy, kind and thorough repair man to check out your washer, dryer, or other big metal thing you don't know how to fix. They'll diagnose your problem, and also walk you through what's wrong without talking down to you or making you feel stupid. If no major repairs are needed, it's possible that you won't end up paying for much beyond the service call fee. These are your go-to guys for peace of mind, though. If you absolutely do not want a repeat performance of "Splash Basement 2010: Wet Hot American Basement!," do like I did and call Master Tech. Once I had to spruce up my microwave before selling the house. I found out that Master Tech could make custom size microwave grease filters. Just tell them the dimensions you need. Instead of paying $30 (plus shipping) for the OEM filter, it was like only a couple of bucks, and I didn't have to pay shipping because I was able to pick it up myself. I got two, and gave the spare to the new homeowner. Hey, I could afford to splurge. Recently, the Samsung microwave stopped working. It kept giving the infamous "SE" code on the LED screen. It was still under warranty, and when we contacted the manufacturer, they told us that Master Tech would be doing the repair at no cost. I had to hang out at my house during a four hour window, but that was OK. I got some chores done. Someone at the Master Tech office called when the repair person had been dispatched. He arrived, introduced himself and got to work. He had the heads-up from the microwave manufacturer that it was probably the circuit board. He was prepared to change it out. He had the new one. I needed a part for my washer, but did not have the tool needed to do the repair, so we decided to have a technician come replace the part. Master Tech scheduled me 2 weeks out, then 30 minutes before my scheduled service call, they called me to tell me they'd need to reschedule for yet another week out because the technician called in that day. Then they never called me to tell me what time they'd be here, I had to call them that morning to find out. Once the technician arrived, he asked me what it was doing and immediately told me they didn't do that type of repair. I could have been told that over the phone and gotten a new washer. I was still charged the service call fee and when I talked to the secretary, she thought the situation was amusing. Literally laughing at a customer for being inconvenienced and the lack of communication within Master Tech. I took 2 different days off of work for a technician to end up coming my house for not even 5 minutes to tell me to get a new washer. read more

Dennis did a great job with a tricky problem! We have a Dacor cooktop with a vent that goes up and down. We decided to clean it. When we were reassembling it, we put one piece in backwards and the unit jammed. Nothing that we tried worked. We had visions of having to reinstall the whole cooktop setup. We called Dacor and learned Master Tech had technicians with Dacor knowledge. Dennis came out, was quite familiar with our setup, and patiently worked to unjam the part and reinstall it; now, it works perfectly. He explained how he had fixed it, which we could have not done. I would not recommend Master Tech and I will not use them again. They made the initial assessment of my broken dishwasher and charged the service fee. They then informed me that one of the parts needed was no longer available. I ordered it on my own. When I contacted them to inform them, no response. Then the part arrived, I called and was told I would need to wait while they ordered the other part. I did and tech was here today. He was unable to fix the dishwasher and I was charged a lot for his time to try and repair. I was informed there would be a charge before which is why I gave them 1 star. The "solution" suggested was to buy a new dishwasher. Everyone I spoke to to was dismissive and not helpful. And the tech left a pile of wet towels in the middle of my wood floor. read more

Bought an extended warranty from ABC Warehouse on our Samsung refrigerator. (bad decision to buy this one). Had to have a major repair last February. Andy replaced the major part then and said he hoped that would take care of it. He explained that it usually fixed this refrigerators problems ( leaking water under the crisper drawers. Well, guess what, it happened again, this time a massive amount, so much that it it was spilling out onto the floor. Andy came again, ordered every part imaginable, and snaked out the drain lines and says he hopes this fixes this refrigerator. Great expectations, great service, but do not buy a SAMSUNG! While the service tech seemed proficient, he could not provide me with a receipt for services rendered. I called MasterTech and the person answering the call said I was rude to ask for a receipt and that the dispatcher would send me a receipt through email. He had no idea what my email address was. Three hours after the service was completed, I finally got a receipt. I didn't appreciate the attitude of the person answering my call for a receipt. EVERY service dealer I have dealt with in the past could provide me with a receipt after services rendered. NEVER again will I use this company. What I've learned from having Master Tech to my house 6 times to fix my dishwasher is that living in ann arbor, they are the go to for warranty service, and that's okay. However, if you are not under warranty, there are other places to call for service-I will do that next time. My dishwasher failed for the first time at just under 7 years young. It was giving a "flood" error code. The company referred me to Master Tech. I didn't realize I could have called a number of different companies. First of all, their scheduling is ridiclious. Every time, it was a two week wait for service. Then, they won't even give you a window of time-I guess everybody is just supposed to be available ALL DAY. You can get a window the morning of-by then your day is already shot. My window was repeadly 11:00-2:00, which eats up the whole day. I did like the repairman. He was friendly, took off his shoes, and took the time to troubleshoot. But he just couldnt fix it, The first visit, I was told that nothing was wrong. Luckily, it did the same thing again within the 90 days for service warranty. I was given advice on loading it and using the disposal. Keep in mind that I used this appliance for almost 7 years with no problem. Finally, he changed a part, this took 2 more weeks and another visit. The dishwasher worked for about 100 days. Then, he changed the same part AGAIN. By now, I'm out of alot of time and money, and although he was a fair guy and I think he would have kept trying without a service charge-the company didn't see it that way and I paid that charge a few times for the same problem. So, he had visited 6 times. Many times of unloading dirty dishes and getting the excess water out with a turkey baster. Not to mention, the flooding on my wood floor. And it dies again, about 110 days later-again outside of the 90 day repair warranty. I knew his next move would be the circut board-EXPENSIVE- and I also truly believe that would not have fixed it. Did I mention that this was a $1500 dishwasher?! The irony is that Master Tech, I'm sure, believes they fixed it. They don't know that I went to Big Georges next door and purchased a new machine (different brand of course), out of complete frustration. Do not use! I had Master Tech come out to fix my LG freezer door. They told me I needed over $500 in parts. On the day they were supposed to come fix my freezer they called me and cancelled because they forgot to order one piece. This is AFTER I had already cleaned out my fridge so they could work on it. The guy responded, "well, it will be ready for next time." The only problem is that it takes a week to get back on their schedule. I was so mad at losing all that food off that I never contacted them again. I finally called Mr. Appliance in Garden City to do the repairs. I am not kidding, Aaron A. fixed my freezer door in 5 minutes, no parts needed. I seriously looked at him like he had just walked on water because I couldn't believe it! It didn't need any of those expensive parts. I saved literally HUNDREDS of dollars. If you are on the fence on an expensive repair with Master Tech on your LG fridge, I would highly recommend calling Mr. Appliance. I'm also contacting LG directly to let them know this happened. They should not have Master Tech listed as a licensed repair place, if they are unable to see the difference between a 5 minute repair and $500 in new parts. read more

One major complaint is that they don't give you a time range for your appt. until the day of. Awful service. The first time we used them they failed to come back with a part for over a month. This time they have canceled twice already. The technicians are rude. They charge a big fee just to tell you that something is broken. I already knew exactly what was broken and didn't need to pay to have someone come and tell me that. I've used master tech exclusively for repairs to appliances in my house for 13 years. They appear to be the only one in Ann Arbor to repair certain machines. First of all they tend to tell you it is your fault for misusing the appliance when it breaks. They also blame problems on how crappy appliances are made these days. Telling you that five years is a lot for a dishwasher. I think that my dishwasher had been previously fixed by them and they didn't have the info with them, which might have suggested the particular machine was a lemon that I could get replaced by the company. You have to wait a week for an appointment routinely. This last time when I called within an hour after they left to tell them the same code was flashing on my machine, they waited a week to call and tell me that code is for a problem that they didn't fix and that I didn't tell them what code was flashing. I did tell them that I hadn't used the top drawer in six months because a code was flashing and it wasn't draining then he diagnosed a problem. One would think that he figured out which code was flashing given that I had called him to fix it, I hadn't used it in months and he is the repair guy. But no apparently went with his gut, fixed what wasn't broken and blamed it on me. read more

Don't even make the call; that's where all of the aggravation begins. It's like talking to a cold stone wall. They are scheduling 2 weeks out even if your refrigerator/freezer has stopped working. They have this waitlist system but can't tell you where you are on the waitlist or the likelihood that you would get service sooner. Our washer machine stopped working over the weekend. I called Master Tech Monday morning and the person that answered the phone was kind and polite. But their system is very frustrating to work with. They offer you a 4 hour window and then it's happen both times they have come to our house - the repair man shows up makes a 1 minute diagnose and tells you that's $69 charge, they need to order the part, it will be a week or so before it's in and then you'll need to schedule another appointment. It seems they are all about collecting service call fees and shuffling you off to another day. Extremely frustrating to deal with. I will never call them again. read more

Update 8/16/2016: down to 1 star 2 days after this original post, the much anticipated part came in. Took a half day work off to meet the tech and dishwasher still does not work. Tech blamed it on a bad part, but installed a new one today and it's still broken. Tomorrow they are coming to uninstall the whole dishwasher and take it to their shop. They have to remove the appliance from our house in order to try and fix it! How much are they going to invest before they replace it? I'm sure they are already at the cost for a replacement - 6 house calls plus parts plus shipping. This doesn't even include the work they are going to try. This was to replace a plastic handle which didn't even affect performance. We have now been without a dishwasher for 6 weeks and counting. If you need them to perform the repair in your house, look elsewhere. We have a Bosch dishwasher that is still under warranty and the cheap plastic handle cracked. Purely a cosmetic flaw they we figured, why not get it fixed, its still under warranty. We called and Bosch referred us to Master Tech, when they replaced the handle on 7/5/2016, the unit stopped working. He initially thought he shorted out the display board which controls the buttons; the technician mentioned likes to be sure he has the board when he replaces the handle since it often shorts out. When asked why did you replace it then and not come back later with the circuit board, response was, well, it does not happen all the time. After waiting a week for the part, they came back to replace it and the dishwasher still didn't work. Turns out they shorted the control board, after waiting almost 2 weeks, we called and were informed that the part is on back order. No call to tell us or let us know what was happening and still with no dishwasher after approximately 3 weeks. We are now waiting... will update after the part comes in and is installed, however long that will be. read more

I called and made an appointment with them to repair the filter on the water dispenser on our refrigerator. I specifically told them that I couldn't be home until after 3:30, so they said I'd have to wait three weeks until they could come out. Then, one day before the appointment, they called and left a message saying, "Our technician will be there between 12 and 3 tomorrow." When I called back to remind them that they I couldn't be home until after 3:30, they said they couldn't possibly meet that requirement. My wife and myself have dealt with Master tech a few times and have been really impressed with their all around customer service. The techs with their expertise and also their professional courtesy. The dispatchers (who keep in touch with you and provide a heads up on arrival times so as not to inconvenience you!) and especially the ladies that answer the phone and exhibit great patience along with plenty of experience (and in Olivia's case great empathy in sharing my frustration with a certain brand of NEW dishwasher that seems to have a mind of it's own)...so that when their tech arrives he/she is fully prepared and has the right parts on them to make it a convenient one stop repair. Also a special thanks and shoutout to Alice who really helped us determine the right and proper tactical solutions to our dryer issue -- and "hi" to Dennis the tech who fixed our microwave and Jason who fixed that weird acting dishwasher and who's determined to figure out what caused it to sporadically work/not work/work...etc). Everyone we've dealt with from schedulers and dispatchers to the techs to the prideful owner were super efficient, personable and pleasant. Terrible service from a scheduling stand point. My Viking appliance needed to be fixed and once the repairman did come (2 weeks after the appliance was broken) he determined what part was needed. I thought the part had been ordered, but I discovered that it was waiting for a quote from the technician so I could approve it. I happened to call and told MTAS to order the part. They seemed very lackadaisical about it and they were not even apologetic. So bottom line is I am still waiting for the part to be ordered. When my oven stopped working, a quick google search of the symptoms revealed I needed a new ignitor. YouTube videos showed it to be a pretty simple switch out, so I pulled out the old ignitor and then googled "Ann Arbor appliance parts". Master Tech popped up right away. I've driven past this street (off of Stadium, at the corner where the Post Office is) so many times without ever seeing it. I handed over the old ignitor and the oven model number, and the friendly man behind the counter quickly handed me my new part ($47). Samsung contacted Master Tech to perform a warranteed repair to our microwave. After doing a little research on the internet, we found that the problem with our microwave is fairly common, and in fact, Samsung offered to repair it free of charge even though our warrantee had expired. Everything started off great. The repairman arrived at our house a week earlier than planned just to determine which part he needed to order. The part arrived in about a week and the repairman returned to our home for the install. Not sure what happened, but according to the repairman the wrong part was mailed to Master Tech in the right box. The part did not work and a new part would have to be ordered. After waiting 2 1/2 weeks to hear back about the new part, we called Master Tech. The person answering the phone indicated that the part had not been received and she would have her "parts guy" (Andrew, I believe) call back the next day. Of course, we did not receive a call back. After waiting a few more days, my husband sent an email to Master Tech requesting the status of our part and repair. Master Tech called the next day (Sean, I believe) to schedule an appointment to install the re-ordered part. When the day arrived to install the re-ordered part, Master Tech called to tell us that the part did not arrive as expected. By now, we have not had the use of our over-the-stove microwave for over 5 weeks. When questioned, the "parts guy" told us that, after the failed install, the part was not re-ordered for over 2 weeks. The "parts guy" mentioned some sort of "credit hold" with Samsung. This was a warranteed repair, and supposedly Samsung made a mistake when they sent the first part, therefore we're not sure why a "credit hold" would impact our repair. The "parts guy" told me he would contact Samsung immediately and figure out when our part would be sent, and when our repair could be scheduled. As expected, I never heard from him. After waiting a few days, I contacted Samsung and was told that our ticket number had been cancelled. Master Tech told Samsung that we did not return phone calls so they were cancelling our order. We have now started over with another company, and by the time they come to our house for an initial visit, we will have not had the use of our microwave for over 8 weeks. read more

I was so shocked to Have read the reviews while searching for Master Tech's number the other day that I had to come review it myself. I've been using Master Tech for years and they've always been great. They do usually schedule a week or so out, but for important jobs like a warm refrigerator I recently experienced, they ended up coming out the next day because they had a cancellation and wanted to get my issue solved. I've tried other repair companies because they could come sooner, but they ended up causing me more of a headache (and money!) with incorrect diagnosis's and unneeded parts. I HATE dealing with this firm, but they have a lock on some of the brands and you are stuck, stuck stuck in having to use them to get parts. My biggest problem with them is that they won't give you a scheduled time of arrival beyond the entire day. Once they arrive, they do seem to be able to fix the appliance in question, but they are AWFUL in terms of cooperative scheduling or reasonable scheduling. They have no sympathy for people who don't really have the ability to sit home all day not knowing when their repair person will arrive. read more

At the time I made the appointment, I provided the gave them the the make and model of the washer. When the technician came out, he stepped one foot in my laundry room and before looking at the serial number, said that the washer had been recalled. I just took a day off from work to have Master Tech repair an inside light in my refrigerator that was malfunctioning. Curt, the tech, came in and had me empty out half my refrigerator in order to get to the light. After I did this, Curt said, "We don't work on this brand of refrigerator." Previous to his visit, I had given their office all the details about my fridge. The people in the service department did not tell me they did not work on my brand of refrigerator. Curt told me "To call the office if I had a complaint." Rude!!! I will never use Master Tech again. They are inconsiderate and the front office has no idea what brands of appliances their company repairs. You're only as strong as your weakest length. UGH!!! read more

This company sent an extremely rude tech to my house for a diagnosis on my non-working washer. He showed up very angry because he had to take a small detour (5 extra minutes) that he didn't know about. He could not diagnose the washer (next red flag) and proceeded to tell us he was just going to order a bunch of parts and the warranty company would just deny it. When we questioned his plan he told us he had already wasted enough time on this because of the detour and then he just left! He made false claims that the washer had been abused and neglected and that the basement was flooded!! None of this was true! The warranty company denied the claim (surprise!) and we are left to try and clean up the mess. The Mastertech took no accountability for it and told us we should have informed him there was a detour!! I guess they should have told us where they'd be coming from, but that was never discussed either! Anyway, between the lack of knowledge required to make a diagnosis and the extremely rude and erratic behavior, this company is sure to disappoint! read more

My decades old driver stopped heating so I setup an appointment with Master Tech. They called me the day of the appointment to remind me, the service guy (who's name I don't remember) arrived about the time they said he would. Unfortunately he discovered that, due to the age of the dryer, the problem would require a $250 part. That cost plus are return trip would just about exceed the price of a new dryer. He suggested a brand and a place that was having a sale. I paid him about $60 for the service trip with a check. Master Tech has good service, reasonable prices, and I trust their recommendations. read more
