Visited Master Steaks after a coworker suggested it to me! I after reading a few reviews, I was all for it as it seemed to be family owned, with roots dating back to the 70s. My girlfriend and I thought it was worth a short. Once we got there, it was a bit busy. We both ordered our steaks medium with sides of mash, two drinks and the Caesar salads. We waited about 30 minutes before they call our order. Finding a seat wasn't too difficult. One thing that I wasn't fond of was that they don't give you a heads up that bacon comes on the caesar salad. So if you're not a bacon fan, make sure to tell them. The mash potato's were amazing. The gravy a bit on the thicker side, but definitely flavourful! Now I had gotten the rib steak and asked for it medium... I was so excited to eat it, but when I did, it was rare. It was an automatic turn off for me as I know there a huge difference between a rare and a medium. For being a steak restaurant, I had the expectation that they would know how to cook a steak on the first try. Over the holidays i had the chance to check out a diner that i heard a lot about. A friend of mine had already been going there since he was a kid with his dad and fast forward its been over 15 years so that goes to show how much of a reputation the restaurant already built even prior to me getting the chance to try it. I loved how the menu had a wide range of options to satisfy everyone's particular taste. You are also able to customize the sides that come with your meal. Always love this feature. The prices were pretty reasonable too. I went with the 8oz NY steak cooked medium rare / mashed potatoes and ceaser salad and a side of gravy plus an apple juice to drink. No fancy sauces needed just prepped straight from the basics and i was 1 happy girl. The salad was evenly tossed and the bacon bits were a nice crunch added texture. Mashed potatoes were airy and buttery. 2 scoops is incredibly generous!! There were a ton of seating available inside, pretty much booths and booths all back to back. Pretty straight forward free parking outside upfront which you can see right through the class window. The service did not disappoint. Did a great job at answering the random questions i asked. Beware of the truck stop. I have been there a few times to try the food. Overall, the food is "ok" especially withthe low prices but this comes at a hidden cost. We have seen some questionable practice like not washing hands but at least putting on gloves so we let this slide. However, in general, the staff does NOT practice safe hygiene. I witnessed poor food handling at the line and cross contamination. The are both men and occasional women that do the actual serving of food. The young women wear gloves but the men are not consistent. On our last visit, one manager, young with dark complexion (we think his name was Jeff) was seen carrying either garbage or some sort of box in from behind the chef, then after dropping it off, he then came to the food counter and proceeded to handle the food without gloves. When confronted by two customers, he said, he can't be expected to "always wear gloves"! We were flabbergasted with this ridiculous statement. The only safe thing for this staff member to be handling is taking out the garbage. If you like a stereotypical classic dirty truck stop, that doesn't care about hygiene, this is the best place. If you don't want to take a chance of eating poorly handled food, continue to drive past this truck stop. read more

In a word: dreadful. It has been many years since I have wandered in here and it will be many more before I wander back. Firdt, you will be greeted by flies circulating the register rather than an employee. Although to be honest, there were so many flies I have reason to believe they are on the payroll. The menu looked promising and reasonably priced, but once seated in the worn banquettes to await my order it was clear the dining area gets little, if any, cleaning attention. Perhaps the last time was when these worn and cracked seats were installed. My good arrived, and my 5 oz NY steak was difficult to cut into, being a sinewy and tough cut, and it was also cooked to thr wrong temperature, medium instead of rare. It would have been an easy mistake to make since the cut was also paper thin. The eggs were ok, but it is nearly impossible to ruin sunny side up. But the dry, crusted hash broens were horrible and no amount of seasoning could salvage them. As I write this, I am watching a meeting of yet more flies on a gentleman's back, they are clearly well fed because the customers don't eat much of the food. Hubby was in the mood for steak and since we happened to be in Mississauga it was a no-brainer; Master Steaks here we come! We could smell the aroma of grilled meats as we entered the parking lot; it was gonna be a good night! Last time we took our order to go but this time we decided to dine in. This old diner is in desperate need of a facelift but that has no bearing on the quality of the food. We placed our order with the friendly cashier then sat down at one of the booths to wait for our number to be called. From the looks of the picture menu, last time we were here we actually had the Delmonico steak. Today we're trying the Rib steak with a side of veggies, roasted potatoes and a Caesar salad ($0.99 extra for the upgrade). Since the steak sauce came in such little containers we asked for another one; they were nice enough not to charge us extra. Our steak turned out beautifully; it was nicely seared on all sides with grill marks and a little bit of char around the edges. It was cooked perfectly even though it was a thick slab of meat. The steak was juicy and tender. The Delmonico was more tender than the rib steak but the rib steak was more flavorful than the Delmonico. Took away a star because I still haven't found good enough sides to go with the steak. The cooked veggies (broccoli, cauliflower and carrots) were overcooked, I didn't like the taste of the roasted potatoes however the Caesar salad was decent once I took off the stale croutons (they top it with Bacos if that makes a difference to anyone). This is the only place we're coming to if we want steak; the trek from East York to Mississauga is totally worth it. I came here after a couple hours of climbing at Top Rock with a group of 6 and we were famished and ready to eat. We were not disappointed! For $18.99 I got a 12oz rib steak with caesar salad (extra $1.99 charge) and french fries. I asked for my steak medium rare (is there any other way to have steak?!) and was delighted to cut into it and see a perfect medium rare. It was seasoned nicely (not overly salty) and I didn't find myself needing extra flavor/gravy. The french fries were not impressive so I would pass on that next time and go for the mashed potatoes. Most of my friends got the 8oz New York striploin with 6oz BBQ ribs and a side for $17.99. They also loved it. In my opinion, you can't go wrong with this place. Great place to have an affordable steak. All the sides are amazing, the fries, the mashed potatoes, the gravy and onion rings are old fashioned and home made. The staff has gotten a lot friendlier since last I was here. All smiles while taking my order, I totally didn't expect that. The venue itself is not so nice and clean :(, they really need to pay attention to that. The steak is freshly grilled and you can see fire go up as the griller puts a new steak on. T-bones are good, but really gotta be careful with the rib steak. I've had some good ones and some super chewy ones. Today, I asked for medium and my steak came rare plus. Not perfect grilling, if you ask for a medium expect a medium rare to medium well. I like this place but they need to keep the venue a little cleaner. So I give it a 3.5. Asked for medium rare and it was cooked to it. It was a thin cut, so I wasn't expecting too much, but it was tender and juicy overall, so no complaints. Good flavour and for $18.99, you can't ask for too much. Colleagues got a couple of burgers and chicken wings and they were thoroughly enjoyed. Place gets pretty busy during lunch, but they are pretty quick with their orders. You can have a seat while you wait for them to call your number. I've been doing this Yelp thing for going on 4 years, and every few months, I'll see a review for this place pop up. The staff were friendly and when I explained that it was my first time there, they took the time to walk me through the menu and how it works there. After reviewing the menu, I couldn't help myself and went in on a 16oz Ribeye cooked medium rare. The steak was cooked perfectly and although a thinner cut, was still SO juicy that I didn't even need to take a sip of my drink until halfway through my meal. The steak came with a choice or potatoes OR rice, with veggies and a salad. Seeing the Greek flag behind the counter I knew without question I was going with the roast potatoes - amazing choice! Even after upgrading my salad to a caesar, adding grilled mushrooms to the top of mny steak and ordering a drink the total bill (tax in) came to $26. Overall, the grill did not make the steaks perfect, but it didn't totally ruin them. Just in case they would overcook your steak, I would suggest ordering on the rarer side of your preference. The pricing was unbelievably low.
