I never planned on taking Taekwondo, but honestly, I fell completely in love with the faculty and methods of teaching that are exhibited by each and every instructor. They use such positive training techniques and are so genuinely invested in each and every student. My easily distracted kids are now more focused, more respectful, more interactive. The staff is amazing. They know everyones names, siblings, parents. They celebrate victories of all kinds - breaking a board, attempting a new kick, getting a new belt - while being an encouraging comfort through tough times - anything from personal losses, boo boos, feeling discouraged at not breaking the board on the first try, and everything in between. I was TERRIFIED of trying something so completely out of my comfort zone. I am almost 40 and an impossibly long way away from the days before kids when I would work out a few days a week at a fancy-ish gym...i can barely remember that part of my life with so much more time and so many less people to take care of. It is NEVER too late to try something new. For me, it's important to show my girls that we have to keep going even when u feel like giving up. We have to respect and train our bodies because they are the ONLY WEAPONS we have at ALL TIMES. these days, we have to be so careful and so prepared...but also we must saturate our lives with gratitude for the opportunities to learn, the teachers who teach us, the friends and family who support us...the guided steps we are gifted daily that lead us to where we never thought we would be...

My child came home and said he was popped in the mouth. I asked Master Lee about it and she said she did touch his mouth when he wouldn't stop crying during a work out. They then came home saying that they threatened to spank at school. Master again, confirmed that she did threaten it. Then it came to my attention that after there was a wrestling/play fight gone wrong that Master Lee had my child and another child hold their hands out and swatted their palms with a kitchen spoon. I have reported this incident and pulled my child from the program. Under no circumstances was corporal punishment communicated as an option to me or my family prior to enrollment. How disappointing.

At fifteen now, she has been the Texas State Champion for her age/weight group every year except this year because she was injured and could not compete. I know that's a bold statement, but it's the truth. The coaches at 3:16 are top-notch BJJ fighters with a wealth of knowledge. But here's what really sets them apart: they know how to teach. I've known a lot of people who are great at something, but they struggle to transfer that skill to others. That's not the case here. The team at 3:16 teaches through critical, rigorous training, all wrapped in genuine love and compassion. I've watched my boys grow--not just in skill, but in character. They're learning high-level jiu-jitsu, competing at a high level, and becoming better young men in the process. Because of that, at 43 years old, I decided to join 3:16 myself. So this part is for the men. Life, family, and business bring a lot of stress. I've turned to different things over the years to cope, but nothing helped quite like this. When you're on the mat, nothing else exists. You step into a mental space where the world's stresses melt away. It's the healthiest escape I've ever found. When I called RBBA, the woman I spoke with was extremely nice and I felt so much better about them than anyone else from the other places. I was looking for a studio that would teach our children not just the physical side of taekwondo, but the mental aspect as well. I wanted our kids to be more confident! Rockwall Black Belt Academy values the tenets of taekwondo...integrity, courtesy, perseverance, self control, indomitable spirit...just as much as the physical training.
