    Salted Pork Rib Congee
    Wendy S.

Came on a weekday for lunch and there was no wait, but definitely a busy place. The staff was very friendly and patient with us since it was our first time there. I ordered the roast duck noodles with rice noodles and my friend ordered the salted pork bone congee with a Chinese donut. The congee is the kind of consistency that I like, not to thick or thin. The roasted duck noodle was very flavorful and the duck was tender and juicy. I will definitely come back to try other dishes. Check out this spot if you're in the area!

I broke my 'no spend January' to try the new Master Kong that opened up next to the Clackamas Target, and I'm SO glad I did. It ended up being so delicious that I went back twice in the same week. First I tried the brisket noodle soup. The broth was so good that I completely forgot to take a picture of it. It had so much meat in it and it just melts in your mouth. Fantastic! The second time I tried the clam congee. Another win! There were so many clams in there, and I had lots of fun digging through the porridge to pull the clams out of their shells. I definitely plan on going back to try their xiaolongbao. If it's as good as everything else I've tried, then I'm sure it's delicious.

We all know the original Master Kong. Now in Clackamas! Very new and clean. Very attentive service. Congee, beef noodles, dumplings. It's all good here. We also like the meat folder and jianbing. This round I got the mustard pork noodle soup, chinese potstickers and green onion pancake. Oh and the beef brisket on rice, super tender Glad to have a closer option to home!!

Master Kong-Brand New 3rd Location in Clackamas, right next to Target and across from the Clackamas Town Center Do you want to know what love is? Love is when your favorite and most affordable congee spot opens its third location within a 20 minute leisure walk or a 5 minute drive from home. My heart practically burst with joy when I found out and confirmed this precious new location. This is easily the newest, cleanest, and nicest of the three Master Kong locations. We forgot to ask exactly how long they have been open, but our guess is no more than one to two weeks. My son has already visited twice this week. Service: Quick, prompt, and attentive throughout our dine in visit between 8:30 and 9:30pm. They currently have a posted sign listing hours as 7 days a week, 11am to 10pm. The business has not claimed their Yelp page yet, and honestly, I am not sure they even need to. Food: They have truly mastered their congee recipe to perfection. This is our go to order every time: * Congee with preserved egg and braised egg * Fried dough bar to dip into the rich, comforting congee * Beef brisket that is tender and melts in your mouth Consistently delicious, comforting, and affordable, exactly why we keep coming back. Straight from their printed paper menu: About Us: Master Kong, which opened in 2018, has quickly become a staple in Portland's culinary scene by staying true to its mission of delivering delicious and affordable traditional Chinese cuisine. Its commitment to providing authentic dishes has earned it multiple accolades: * 2018: Named Willamette Week's Newcomer of the Year and nominated for Restaurant of the Year by Eater Portland's Eater Awards. Also listed in The Oregonian's 10 Best New Restaurants. * 2019 & 2020: Featured in The Portland Newspaper's list of the city's 40 best inexpensive restaurants. * 2025: Included in Eater Portland's list of Portland's best affordable restaurants. If you are looking for authentic Chinese comfort food at an affordable price, Master Kong continues to prove why it is a Portland favorite. Restroom: Provides toilet seat covers. Welcome to the neighborhood, Master Kong. We are very, very happy you are here.

The Salted Chicken Congee was full of flavor and very comforting. This was my first time trying congee and this made me a big fan. The Crab Meat Soup Dumplings were also delicious. Good prices, big portions, complimentary tea, and excellent service. We will definitely be back.

Service is quick and the staff is very friendly. Not the best ambiance but it's a small, very clean family owned place in a strip mall. What do you expect? I like that it's an open format- so you get to see your food prepped and staff is readily available. I like that more than a place having a lot of decor.

After our last visit, I fear things have changed. The place still looks the same; clean and orderly but no art, no shrines, no decor whatsoever. Only the sight of busy cooks banging sizzling woks in the open kitchen and the smells of the dishes give the cuisine away. As we entered, everything looked as it always has. We were a bit surprised at the emptiness of the dining area. Early evenings are normally bustling with dine-in customers, and the phone constantly ringing for take-out. Besides us, there was only one other table occupied. The menu looked the same, but when we ordered some old time family favorites, they each were disappointing. Celery dominated the veggie dish, (Buddhist Delight) with no detectable asian spices and scant traces of the other veggies promised. The cashew chicken was more skin than meat, and minimal cashews. I don't know for certain, but I suspect the place has changed ownership, or management or both. If that's the case, it's a shame because the place really was a neighborhood gem for many years. We will likely give it another shot, but with so many fantastic Asian restaurants on the SE side, we won't be back for a spell.

Anyone looking for hand-pulled noodles: as of May 2025, you will not find them here. They apparently stopped serving them. May return for: Beef In Chili Sauce (cold) - I love this dish and have had it at many other places. Chili oil was delicious; onions and cilantro went well with the thin slices of beef. Would not return for: anything else. Taiwan Beef Brisket Tomato Noodle soup - it was bland broth, unfortunately. Uncooked spinach and tomatoes added on top, very little flavor. Brisket was not very soft. Mongolian Beef Chow Mein - there was a puddle of sauce at the bottom of the bowl, which I would not expect for chow mein. Definitely not cooked in a wok (or done very poorly). Handmade spicy pork wontons - also not flavorful. If they used the chili oil on the Beef in Chili dish, this might taste better. But the filling would something to be desired.

One of my boys liked the tomato beef noodle and finished the bowl with lightning speed. This is a good spot for a quick noodle meal.

Came in on weekend for lunch and it was definitely a 40 min wait, but then literally no one on a Tuesday night for dinner. Somehow, the time for the food to come out was about the same. You get a few that come out quick, then a few that took long enough for me to notice it, and then always a few where you wonder if they forgot your dish. Even when there was no one else in the restaurant. The XLB and pot stickers are all super solid, not quite Ding Tai Fung quality, but at these prices and wait times they are great. Qbao's are delicious. I think the noodles are honestly slept on. They all have great flavor, super bouncy noodles, and honestly come in a size that you can easily finish on your own or still big enough to split in case you wanted to try another flavor. I also think the pork wonton's with chili sauce are also super slept on, the sauce is oddly sweet, but honestly I love that. Service here can be hit or miss. They don't really do a each table gets a specific server system, at least that hasn't been my experience. You'll get some food runners, and you can usually just flag anyone down to get what you need. But it does mean things can slip through the cracks if you don't have one person keeping an eye on the list of food ordered for the table or you have multiple servers checking in on you to see if you got all your food even though you just told the server 3 min ago you were still missing something. All in all, this place is phenomenal and approachable. I will be back, maybe not on the weekends though, it's not quite worth all that.
