Relaxation, health and wellness. The Salt Cave is all about these aspects of the self. The owners…read moreare so down to earth and friendly. It is a casual, relaxed atmosphere, no snooty spa vibes here. They do take walk ins but space in the Salt Cave is limited so it's best to reserve a spot. Be sure to get there early as there is a brief form to fill out and some Coolio salt domes to rest your feet on as you wait. These are heated and feel soooo great on the tootsies. You can shop a bit as well because they offer all sorts of Himalayan salt products at Oh So Reasonable prices. I really felt the whole place was set up to offer the benefits of the salt to others...not to gouge you for money. Staff is enthusiastic about what they do and more than willing to explain or answer any questions you may have. The woman at the front desk had us try a salt scrub on our hands. It was marvelous! There is a little fountain with rocks that you rinse your hands in. So Zen and beautiful. We haven't even entered the cave yet! Fast forward to cave dwelling. We were given blue surgical booties to put on over our socks, they recommend white on the website FAQ section, and a cap to protect our hair. As we entered the cave we walk through a thick, luxurious layer of loose salt covering the floor. You can scoop some up and play with it or move your feet in it like sand at the beach. No touching the walls or cave outcropping please. The ceiling is designed to look like a cave roof with lots of tiny stalactite formations surrounded by sparkling twinkle lights. The lights move from blue to green to red to yellow. Gorgeous and mesmerizing. There are several zero gravity lounge chairs to choose from including some couple chairs if you come with a significant other. Each chair is padded with a cozy blanket type cover and there are light, super soft blankets on each chair if you get chilled. The room was a comfortable temperature. They tell you to wear comfortable clothes. Other than the twinkle lights there are several salt lamps placed in cave nooks throughout the room and the cave wall is backlit. It's very peaceful and comforting. The ceiling is not so low as to be claustrophobic. Most any adult can walk upright inside. An attendant comes in and explains the basis of the salt therapy and what to expect. Each participant received two salt balls that were heated and could be held in your hands or placed behind your neck. I put one under a sore knee that had been bothering me. The door is closed and New Age relaxation music is piped in. You can hear the salt ionizer cycling but it is a soft sound. We were instructed to breathe deeply to get the best results. The salt ions are invisible. You can't see or feel them. There is no talking in the cave. 45 minutes later the attendant returns to let you out. Exit prior to that time for emergency only please. Water is provided and the woman at the desk talks with you about the experience. They offer package rates and private booth treatments. You can book the room for a private session with enough people. They seemed pretty busy as a group was there when we arrived and another was waiting as we left. I definitely recommend the experience. Good for respiratory and skin issues. I had a scratchy throat for about a week prior and it was clear the next day.

A summary of my review below: I started getting massages about 40 years ago and have gone through a…read morenumber of them. Toki is the best by far. My full review: Since my first massage, I have realized the therapeutic benefit to my health and so have consistently had massages throughout the years. As I have gotten older with more instances of soreness and pain, it has become even more important. I believe that a masseuse cannot "learn" your body and how YOU like to be massaged until after at least a few appointments. On the other hand, I also think that, usually, you can tell the first time if the person just has the talent (yes, I mean talent) to be a really great masseuse. I believe that talent lies in 1. the masseuse loving what she does and 2. The level of commitment to the client and the commitment to be "in the moment". Toki has both these qualities. I became aware of Toki just as she graduated from massage school and obtained her license. Because she was so new, I had my doubts that it was going to work. But my masseuse I had at the time had moved out of the area and was no longer available. She was good and I didn't think I would replace her easily so decided to hire Toki as a temporary solution. Well, without exaggeration, I could tell, almost the moment she began to massage me (after discussing with me what I liked--hard pressure, soft or medium; I like deep massage), that she was the real deal and she could actually be my permanent masseuse. One appointment led to the next and each time she gets better just as I think she cannot. But she listens to my input, and makes her adjustments. She is the best I have ever had and I highly recommend her. Just remember to communicate with her and tell her what works and what doesn't. She will listen and give you the best massage you have ever had. Now add to that that she will come to your home and does not limit her area to just Santa Cruz, it is worth it to pay her the extra dollars for a massage in the comfort of your home.

They also never disclosed this. They should offer a full one hour for the appointment for hands on time, especially after they said I had to "come 15 minutes early to fill in paperwork."
