I had my first massage here on Labor Day and I arrived 15 minutes early as requested to find that the entire staff was standing outside of the clinic, waiting around. Turns out that the manager went out of town without passing along a pair of keys so the area manager stepped in to handle the situation. Keys to the clinic finally arrived at 12:15pm (my appointment was at 12:00pm) and I was very frustrated at the fact that I wasn't going to be getting the full hour that I had booked for that day, but this is where the area manager stepped in and fixed the situation. He went ahead and gave me a 30-minute massage at no cost for that day (because that's all the time that was left once I was checked in) then booked a second massage for me a week later at no cost that was a 90-minute with their best masseuse. I was blown away at this generosity and was very grateful for it! Their best masseuse (gosh I can't remember his name and I lost his card - maybe Tai?) was seriously the BEST! Wowza! He was so thorough in locating all of the super tense spots I had in my muscles from all the weight lifting that I do. He got all of the knots out and I left feeling the most relaxed I had probably ever felt! Plus, I really appreciated the fact that while I'm not usually comfortable with men massaging me, he did an excellent job making sure I was comfortable the entire time! No creepy-vibes like I've experienced at other places. Also - they were following COVID procedures very seriously when I was there in September (I assume they probably still are). Staff wears masks at all times, temperature check/Covid screening are required at check in and they require those getting massages to keep a mask on the entire time as well. I quit going here because the front desk kept changing my appointment so they could go home earlier. At first they would just call and ask and I would take off work early but then My boss put her foot down. She asked me why am I working around their schedule when I am the customer. Then when I refused to change my appointment they would just say it's either earlier or another day. Once I came and they had left me to come at my six pm appointment with the doors all locked up. I switched to the Buffalo speedway location for the last two years and never had this problem again I miss the great massage therapist Sylvia that I followed there but that was no way to treat a member or customer. read more

They cancelled my Labor Day Appointment 30 minutes before massage due to provider being sick, then ME tried to not honor my monthly credit I'm entitled to per contract. Another recent event I attended a massage to finish up my 6 month contract, when I finished I asked to cancel contract and was told I was a day early and needed to try back then. Called in the following weekend to cancel and then was told a manager was not there and I would need to come in to cancel. Lots of games to make you keep paying monthly. Ratings and observed business practices leads me to believe this is a not so good place to go if you are trying reach your zen. I'm surprise the chain alone supports this unethical place. I've been dealing with this location for months now. It all started in January when i was charged for a canceled membership. They went ahead and charged me February and March anyways. I called and spoke to Nicole and was hung up on twice. I finally got a hold of their Area Manager, Country, who refunded the charges to the wrong card. They finally fixed the issue after 4/5 months. I asked for a free credit for all of this, which they were not willing to give it to me until i kept asking. HERE COMES THE GOOD PART- Courtney (area manager) agreed to give me the credit but would revoke it if I filled out the survey or left another what she referred to as "in moment?) giving a negative review. She basically black mailed me and said if I left another bad review she would take it away. read more

My son was invited to subscribe for membership at this location by the young lady at the front desk. I told her we didn't live in Houston and were visiting from Atlanta. I also gave her my experience with my previous membership in Atlanta, and how we did not want to be obligated to a long term contract, especially when therapist relocate and many are not as trained for deep tissue or the total body in this franchise. She stated if we joined, we could cancel at anytime. We went over each section of the contract and she gave her explanation of what each section meant. Again she stated when we got to the section on terms that we could cancel at anytime and gave us her location address and phone number to do so if needed. Today, 2 months later, my son has unfortunately lost his job after 7 years. I called the location to cancel and she told me he was locked in for 6 months. Listen, to falsely promote this is unlawful. However, I should have not taken her word and read the terms myself. This is an unfortunate situation. I will never encourage anyone, especially who visits or lives in Houston, to patronize this facility. I also pray that the young lady who misled us should never experience someone like herself, who misleads people and takes advantage of others. read more

If allowed, I would like to give a negative 1 for the service at the front desk. First like several others, I was told I could cancel at any time, when I tried, that was not the case, I had to be a member of this horrible place for a year. I decided to use another massage envy for the term that had much better service and came back here to terminate my contract 60 days in advance and have a copy of the termination. Still because it was 60 days in advance, they are telling me that was against the policy and not acceptable not and it can only be done 30 days in advance and now they expect me to continue for another year until the next renewal date. I was a member with Massage Envy for a little over 2yrs and the service that I received at the front desk was horrible. For every request that I had (example, fax number, cancellation request, corporate number, etc.) I was told that I had to speak with a manager who was never available. Nia, a front desk receptionist, was very rude and hung up on me when I asked for the spelling of her name so that I could report her rude behavior. I had to find the corporate email on my own through a google search and had to get them involved in order to finally get a response back from the manager. Never ever been disappointed here. Waited for months to join because of negative reviews, but I was dumb for waiting. They are AMAZING. Amber was so sweet, Brenda was fabulous, and Todd is an angel sent from Heaven. They have different therapists depending on if you want something relaxing and enjoyable and also therapists that will get in there and make you nearly tear up from the amount of pressure they put on a tight muscle. As a Doctor who works in health care /customer service, it's unfortunate to experience horrible customer service. I called this location to book a massage at 11:30 am today. I was quoted that time frame and arrived in a timely manner. Upon arrival I was told my appointment was at 11 not 1130 and that the masseuse was with another client. Upset, I asked the front office lady (who did not greet me upon arrival at all btw) if she could squeeze me in later today or later in the week. She said no your appointment was at 11. I said ma'am I'm sorry but not to be rude but I have it in my day planner from when we talked that my appointment was at 11. Rudely the lady refused to believe she made a mistake. And still charged me in full for my appointment and I did not get a massage, NO REFUND NO RESCHEDULE? What type of place is this. I will not refer any of my colleagues here. The facility is ok, but the customer service is horrendous. I had an appointment scheduled but missed it due to a work emergency. I called the location as soon as I could to try and reschedule and get the credit back (I have a membership). When I called, I was told there was nothing they could do, even if there was an emergency and I should've called earlier, (which obviously I would've done if there was not an emergency). This was also my first offense, so I asked to speak with the manager to see if there was any flexibility around rescheduling and getting my credit back. I was told she was unavailable but would give me a call back. 5 days passed and still no call from the manager, so I called again and when I spoke with the receptionist, she told me the same thing, that I would lose my credit. I asked to speak with the manager again, and was told that she would relay the message to the manager and it was up to her discretion to give me a call back and she could not promise anything. As a customer, I believe it is common courtesy for the manager to at least return my phone call. The manager was also onsite, but refused to get on the phone. I will never return to this location if this is how the manager is handling customer concerns and requests. read more

I decided to try the new location and went in to see about a membership. There were two young ladies seated in front of the computers that greeted me and asked for the time to sign in. I had used two visits at the prior location and the staff, in general, were rude. I asked, as I was trying to engage with them, if either would call me after they received an answer on something related to my previous account. I was hesitant to go to a chain-spa for a facial, but I've never had a facial better than Rosa's. It felt amazing, she is so sweet, and I can see improvements in my skin afterwards. She has taught me a ton about skin care. She doesn't push products on you (unlike a lot of places), but I have asked her for recommendations. I have been to massage envy plenty of times in California and this is by far the worst massage experience I have had. I travel a lot so I get them done regularly. Because I have been to one of their other locations I've thought that I was fine I showed up 15 minutes early. However,I didn't get checked in until my actual appointment time. Exactly my appointment time is when I was told that I needed to fill out paperwork so of course I'm wondering why didn't you ask me that while I've been sitting here all this time.‍‍ Shortly after I was escorted to the back where I sat and waited for the therapist to receive me. Once I get in the room I get the rundown from the massage therapist about how the process works and then proceeded to ask the same question I provided during check in ( even though I just spent five minutes in the front lobby checking in providing all that information). The therapist leaves the room so that I can get undressed. Once ready, I quickly peaked at the clock and got on the table. The time was now 17 after. After laying down I say I'm ready to choose the therapist to come back in but he never comes when I do hear the door I look up at the clock the time is now 24 after. Needless to say I thought my time would be a full hour but to my surprise my massage was over abruptly at 55 after. On top of that only one out of the two areas I asked to have focused on were able to be completed and everything else felt rushed. $115 later here I am needing a massage for my massage lol ... total waste of time and money read more

That staff at this location is excellent . Lavante, the front desk clerk, was SUPER polite, respectful, and helpful. He even called me to follow up on one of the details of my appointment before I left home. Raymar gave the AMAZINGLY BEST massage of my life. Trust that I went in a jacked up mess. He used great technique, paid attention to my comfort, and strove to meet my session goals. This guy KNOWS HIS STUFF!! Finally, the manager, Denzel - showed so much kindness, respect, and humor that when it came time for the "sales pitch" I promptly signed up for (and prepaid) for a 6 month membership. I went to this location in October when I was traveling as a special treat. It was a wonderful experience. Everyone was nice and I felt relaxed when I left. However, six months after my appointment, I noticed a new charge on my credit card. When I contacted them, they said that I had signed up for a monthly membership and this was merely my monthly fee. Only, this was the first charge in six months and signing up for a monthly membership while traveling doesn't make sense. I didn't even realize they had kept my card on file. I have never written a review on Yelp before today but Massage Envy - Tanglewood needs to be called out for what it is. I went in to schedule a massage last month and was told I had three credits remaining that would expire in a couple of weeks. I was going out of town so the very professional manager, Lauren, gave me her card and said. "No problem, I will extend it for another 30 days. Just show them this card if you have any problem." Fast forward to today. I go in to schedule a facial and a massage and they said my account had expired. I showed them Lauren's card and told them what she had told me. The receptionist goes in and a young woman comes out and says she's the new manager and could not honor my three credits but as a courtesy she would honor one. I said that's not what I was told to which she replied Lauren was no longer there and that's all she would do. I asked to speak to her manager and Monica, the area manager per her business card, came out and spoke in the most condescending manner saying that was their new policy and in the most syrapy, fake voice how sorry she was and then sarcastically said "have a nice day" as I was leaving. This literally could not have been handled in a more unprofessional way. This new manager and area manager obviously has never been trained in customer service. Bottom line: 1) I'm out two credits for two massages which were already paid for in advance and 2) I will never darken the doors of Massage Envy again. I'm still appalled at how condescending this woman was. In today's economic climate, you just don't treat customers like that and expect them to return. read more

My boyfriend and I got gift cards for Christmas that we just used last weekend -- I was hesitant to go because I'm not the biggest fan of chain spas anyway. So, we were expecting to get a couples massage, they don't offer that. We thought we could chose if we wanted a male or female. We couldn't. Anyway we went in separately -- my girl talked THE WHOLE TIME! She told me how she didn't have money for rent the follow week, she told me she was so tired they kept working her back to back and that she apparently fainted the previous week. She told me she was almost raped! And that they did nothing about it. She kept tripping over all the plugs and unplugging the music and saying how it was a hazard cause she's always falling. NOT RELAXING AT ALL! Once I was done with this super awkward massage I went out to the reception area and noticed my boyfriend wasn't done. So I asked if it was supposed to 30 min or an hour and the guy at the front said an hour. And well to no surprise my awkward massage was only 30 MINUTES! Then I go to pay with the gift cards which were $55 each cause that's supposed to be the price of your 1st massage well apparently THAT LOCATION DOESNT FOLLOW THAT RULE. My friend recently purchased a Massage Envy membership and, as a Christmas/Valentine's Day present, she bought me a massage using one of her guest passes. Parking was kind of a pain since this location is in the same parking lot as Capital Grill and it was Valentine's Day, but that was the only even slightly bad thing about the whole experience. I've had lots of massages in my lifetime, but this one definitely ranked up at the top of them. First of all, let's talk about the location. I walked in and didn't have any idea it was as large as it actually was. There had to have been about ten massage rooms. The rooms themselves are the perfect size - not too big, but not too small. They feel intimate rather than claustrophobic. The massage table was extremely soft and comfortable. It felt heated, though it might not have been. My massage was given by Louis Z. and it was absolutely top notch. I like my massages on the hard side. I carry a lot of tension in my shoulders and if there isn't a fair amount of pressure, it's like I'm not even getting a massage. Louis was great with a firm touch that was also soft. My shoulders almost always have at least some tightness in them, but they don't now. My feet, one of the spots that I asked him to concentrate on, feel excellent as well. In addition, I didn't realize it until he started working on me, but my calves and thighs were sore and feel excellent as well. I had such a great experience there that I'm thinking of signing up for their membership myself. If I do, I'll be sure to come back and let you know what I think about it. Massage Envy, and especially Louis, is highly recommended if you need some relaxation in your life. And face it, who amongst us can't? Be sure to give them a call. read more

I feel uncomfortable every time I go to this place. I'm not sure if there is a massage culture, but I definitely feel like an outsider of some sort when I go in. I'm like some sort of undocumented massage immigrant who doesn't speak massage. But, after the initial awkwardness, it does get better. They usually take me into this room and make me fill out this form because, somehow, it's always my first time there. While I do this, they give me water with lemon in it. Why is there lemon in it? You know, because they're classy! Anyway, I've had all kinds of massages from my friend's "hey, I'm good at this, let me hurt you" to the guy in the mall's "come sit here for 10 minutes in front of loads of people with your face in a toilet-like chair." to Thai massages in Thailand (and everything in between). I would rate the quality of massage at Massage Envy part of "everything in between". It's never too far off from the pressure I am looking for, but it's also never spot on. They use a lot of oil for some reason... like, a lot. And, sometimes, there's a good deal of unwanted conversation while I'm trying to be all zen and relaxed and what not. That being said, it's not the worst place to get a massage. You almost get your monies worth (almost) and it's what you would expect from a chain business. It's kinda like what you would imagine if Deny's was a massage place. How can I put this eloquently: It's not something I would recommend, but it is something I'd do again. read more
