i'm really sad to say this because I really did like massage envy... But if I could give zero stars I would. When the glastonbury location closed it moved me to this location. I live in hartford, so I would've preferred to go to West Hartford. my membership ended up getting canceled without my knowledge and all the sessions I accumulated, which were 7, all got dissolved also without my knowledge. This was an extreme waste of money as massage envy is quite expensive when you have a membership. I would not ever recommend getting a membership. They are not very forthright with giving information in regards to your sessions and like I said, it was very expensive and a giant waste of money. -20/10 highly disappointed. please do better massage envy. read more

We could all use as much self care as possible these days and I was pleasantly surprised to find Massage Envy open and a same day appointment available on a Sunday. The service was prompt and friendly on the phone and at the front desk. My massage therapist Tori took me in on time, made me feel welcome and proceeded to give me one of the best massages ever! The only thing I would recommend is to not try to sell a membership after a relaxing treatment but they weren't too pushy so I wouldn't say it took away from my experience. But it is better suited up front this way you can check out after your service and continue on your merry zen way. read more

I was called 17 minutes before my scheduled session to say my therapist wasn't feeling well and couldn't do my session. Since I was already on my way there, I turned around to go back home. Then someone else got on the phone and said she would do it. Well...not turning around again, sorry. Maybe give someone more than 17 minutes notice. You know if I called 17 minutes before my appointment to say I couldn't come, I'd get charged for it. I knew this membership was going to be a huge mistake. read more

Very disappointed with the lack of management handling a very unpleasant experience!! A little over two weeks ago I had a 90 minute appointment and my therapist had a personal emergency and had to leave work immediately--I hadn't even been in the room for 10 to 15 minutes. I was laying on the table waiting for somebody to come in to address the situation BUT no one did!!! I WAS WONDERING WTH!??? the front desk never said anything!!!and I've been waiting for them to reach out to me- but they've not !! I have been to many expensive massage places and the only reason I give them 5 stars is because of my masseuse Andrew. I was hesitant to commit but after a session with him, I was sold. He also customized my treatment plan and showed me some exercises to do at home to stretch. I have bad headaches, neck and shoulder pain so I was pleasantly surprised I was pain free for a week or so after the treatment. I get the 90 minute so I can feel like I'm not rushing and the prices are so reasonable. I have consistency and flexibility to choose my times and dates. I count this as a wellness expense. I believe they take HSA for payment is you have this option. The front staff are friendly and professional. The space is clean and ambiance is relaxing. I have never had a professional massage before and since my girlfriend goes every month she bought us a couples massage. All I can say is wow! It was incredible. I left feeling super relaxed and the tension that I usually carry in my neck and shoulders was gone. I think the idea of a stranger seeing/touching my body was just an unusual concept to me so that's probably why I've never done something like this before. However, Steph made me feel very comfortable. She was very informative and really knew her stuff. I highly recommend her to anyone who hasn't been here before. If it weren't for half-decent massages, I'd give the Cromwell location ZERO STARS if I could! My account is getting ripped off, and while they're aware of it, they're choosing to do NOTHING. Avoid this location!!! I'm a long-time ME customer and normally love their services. I've yet to have a bad experience in North Attleboro, where I went for some time. However Cromwell seriously has to get their stuff together! I work long hours and can only schedule massages at certain times. On multiple occasions in the last few months I've had appointments cancelled on their end, but rescheduled without my knowledge. Not only do I work during the times they chose, but they NEVER told me they created new appointments! When I discovered mysterious charges on my account, I called them for clarification and their explanation wasn't much more than "oh, that was a problematic employee who no longer works here". Over the last NINE WEEKS I've been playing phone tag with the managers and other decision makers, who I honestly believe have no honest intention in resolving this issue. I've been in contact with the Better Business Bureau due to the conscious efforts made to withhold false charges and avoid refunding my account. While I used to recommend this location for relaxing massages, I need to tell my friends to stay away for their own sake! EDIT: As of January 29, 2017, I have received NO RESPONSE to my email asking for some resolution to the matter. I am patient but beyond frustrated!! EDIT 2: The Better Business Bureau has closed my issue following a response from Massage Envy. Having no opportunity to refute their statements, the issue was unfairly shut down. I guess it doesn't take much to take advantage of the little guy, since they LIED about what happened in the first place! Given the other reviews of this location I was wary to get a facial here, but it was the only place that had an appointment when I needed it, so I took a gamble. Was it the best facial I have ever received? No. Was it great service for the price? YES! The girls working the front desk were competent and friendly, my esthetician Lupe was very warm and seemed to have a good understanding of what she was doing and was able to answer my questions about my skin, my facial started on time, and they didn't give me the hard sell for their products at the end. Some notes: my esthetician performed the extractions with fingers (wearing latex gloves), which I wasn't expecting. It got the job done, I suppose, but it didn't feel as luxurious or professional as what I'm used to. I paid an extra $10 for a hand exfoliation, which I don't think was worth it. It was nice to have a bit of a hand massage, but looking back I wish that time had been used to do more on my face. I just moved to Connecticut from across the country, and both my skin and my stress levels were not happy. I needed a little bit of "me time", and for less than $100 (which included a generous tip!) Out of all the MEs in CT this one is my favorite! The staff is polite and knows me by sight now and my therapist Leeann is awesome although booking two weeks in advance is recommended highly since the great therapists get booked up! I recommend the aromatherapy or DMT as add-ons depending on what you're looking for. Leeann has strong hands and can get into all those stubborn knots in your shoulders. I go more for relief than relaxation and she provides! read more

I have visited four Massage Envy's in the past 5 years and this one is the closet to my home. I have received one massage and one facial this far and I have a few qualms with both. First, my massage was OK. I did not ask and am only assuming, and believe my therapist was pretty new at massage in general. It was my first massage from a guy, and he was very by the book however it just didn't sit right with me. I did not relax because I should have asked for the lights to dim more and I feel like he was a bit hesitant and almost unintentionally tickled me a few times. That kind of ruined it for me. Secondly, I had a facial in the past two weeks and she (Beth) was quite experienced but she talked a lot and I felt like I was being told to floss more (the way the dentist does) but with my zits...I hope that makes sense. She tried to get me to buy a few Murad products and I got one of the four she offered. One was a jar of pills to help complexion but I'm already taking a multi and biotin, I'm good on the vitamin front. She also didn't try to kill me by popping every blemish, yes it feels nice at first but some go a bit crazy with the popping but she was good and didn't scar me up. I'd ask for her again. The place is clean, some of the staff are still learning the registers since this is a relatively new place, and when I head back I hope I can push them up a star. !!!UPDATE!!!! So I have been going back to Massage Envy Cromwell since I last posted a review and I have found my savior Liz. Liz gives an awesome facial and is very consultative. I ask for her every time and have seen her about 4 times so far and my face is really clearing up. She is not pushy at all, very smart and I literally zone out during our session. I have yet to find my favorite massage therapist however Erica was excellent and I will see her again soon. For the folks who commented on being pressured into a membership I feel bad for them! I too went through the Massage Envy pitch awhile ago which was not in Cromwell. I can only suspect the bad vibes from the consultants was caused by trying to start membership up when the store first opened. Sometimes you just have to ignore it and walk away. Really great location off the highway in the same plaza as Chicago Sams. This location is absolutely beautiful, really well decorated, a high end spa feel. Lots of rooms and I was able to book an appointment last minute. As to the massage I got... well.... massage is a very personal thing and each massage therapist will have a different technique. I personally didn't like mine, it was weird and awkward and couldn't end fast enough. Thankfully the therapist was 10 minutes late bringing me in and finished 10 minutes early so the hour went by quick. I recommend once you find the therapist you like, you stick with that person and don't stray. Each time I have... regret followed. Overall absolutely beautiful spa. read more

My 90 minute massage "mysteriously" disappeared from the calendar despite my having an appointment card as proof. My therapist fit me into her schedule but for only 30 minutes. I was not comped or given anything besides 'oops' you're the second person this has happened to. Front desk needs to ensure appointments are booked and stick in the system! Very happy with this ME location. I typically go to the South Windsor location, but this one is closer to home for me. Very happy with the level of professionalism. Their tranquility room is beautifully put together. Dim lighting to relax, but enough to still see. My therapist's name was Laurie at my most recent visit. She did a great job helping relax my always-tense shoulders. I would definitely recommend her for great medium-deep pressure. I will be back! read more

Don't get scammed by the monthly membership..your 60 minute massage really means *50min* of hands on time...which really equates to 40-45 pending on which therapist you get. I recently had a facial with Ashley and it was fabulous. I think some places try to over squeeze your face and you are ashamed to walk outside because your face is SO red afterwards. This was not the case here. She performed necessary extractions without going crazy and tailored the products exactly to my skin needs - at one point taking the glycolic treatment off a little early because my face was flushing and putting 2 different types of mask on my face - one for acne at an affected area and one for anti-aging on the rest. I walked out feeling relaxed and with a happy glow. There was no pressure to purchase products. I've also had two massages there with Ama and she is also recommended! read more

Fun fact! If you cancel your membership and do not use all of the sessions you've already paid for, they won't let you use them. They happily kept my $195 and I was not able to use my three sessions. I found this out 15 minutes before my appointment in Glastonbury. The lovely woman who owns the Glastonbury location spoke with Cromwell and let me use 90 minutes of the remaining 3 hours I have. Awful customer experience -- It's a Perfect storm in there -- absentee management and inexperienced Front Desk staff with no authority to make a decision or remedy a situation. Had a dispute over a gift card and the dummies at the desk preferred to have me cancel my membership (of over 5 years), suggest that my wife cancel hers, and have me writing scathing reviews on Yelp than figure out how to make good on an expired gift card (who even knew these things come with a use by date?)! SUMMARY: Don't even consider giving them a try --- YOU WILL NOT BE HAPPY WITH THE SERVICE. I had a 90 minute massage at 8:30pm on a Friday night. The massage therapist LeeAnn was absolutely fantastic. However, my experience with the business and review is completely negative. They pressured me to sign up for things after my massage, knowing it was late at night and that I didn't have my wits about me. I specifically asked if I would be charged a monthly fee or if my card would be charged without my knowledge. They explicitly said, "No." They even went so far as to "reassure" me that the only thing I was signing up for was discounted prices on massages and facials and that my card would only be charged for my services, or I gave late notice of my cancellation. Now, I work for a local chiropractor and massage therapist- I am very well versed in standard massage therapy policies and cancellation notices. All of that I understand. But deliberately misleading the client- unbelievable! My card was auto-charged without my knowledge for fees that I was completely unaware of. When I called to explain the deception and demand a refund- I was hung up on. I called back and was told the owner would call me. And he never did. I will never frequent this establishment again because of the intentional misleading information and taking advantage of the client's relaxation. They pounce on you like a lion with its prey after your relaxing massage. They know you are too relaxed to read the fine print and put on an act like they are trying to be your friend, giving you such a great deal, "explaining everything to you," yeahhhhhh righttttt. read more

While I would recommend a massage here (both masseuses I have had have been great) I absolutely do NOT recommend signing up for their program. If you have ever at any point in your life missed an appointment (doctor, dentist, hair, ANYTHING) or if there is any chance anything in your life may change over the course of the next year JUST DON'T DO IT. If you miss an appointment they WILL charge you 100% of the cost for it. Basically this means they keep the $60 they already charged you for the month and no massage for you. Yes, they will tell you this up front and when they tell you this LISTEN and DO NOT SIGN UP. In a perfect world I would not ever forget an appointment, especially for a massage that I have been looking forward to. But I can be forgetful - totally my own fault but it would have been nice to have that fee waived, rather than having to stress about the $60 I just cost myself. Anyways, again - masseuses are great. But frankly you are better off finding another spa and paying a little more to ensure you actually get what you have paid for and aren't being penalized for choosing to do business with a company that is going to require a one-year commitment from you and is going to try to upsell you every chance they get, when they can cancel on you at any moment. read more

I've been a member of Massage Envy for about a year and have had only great experiences here. My most recent experience was not great, however. I scheduled a massage and facial for both my boyfriend and I for his birthday yesterday. I was able to secure appointments for the both of us with relatively no gaps in between appointments which was, initially, amazing. Two days before our appointment I was notified that my massage therapist, Kyle, would not be in because of the birth of his child and I and my boyfriend would be reassigned to someone different, Jordana. No problem, except this would cause a gap in our appointments and there was nothing she could do. Ok, no problem. We arrive at Massage Envy, and my boyfriend is taken in for his facial first with Shelby. I am told I need to wait an hour for my facial. I expected this and was fine with it. I was in the tranquility room for about 40 minutes when the front desk associate and my massage therapist enter and tell me they could have taken me in for my massage at this time and were sorry for the mistake...okay... I am taken in for my massage with Jordana, who was pleasant enough. I had originally requested Kyle because of his tendency to offer deep tissue massage. She gave a mediocre massage with decent pressure on my neck, back, and shoulders but was weaker on my legs and arms. She did, however, pay special attention to my neck, face, and shoulders while I was face up. That was especially relaxing. After this, I was told my aesthetician, Shelby, would be in momentarily. The reason for the two stars is partly because of Shelby. This was the first time I had had Shelby as an aesthetician but was excited to see what she had to offer. First big turn-off: she used latex gloves while giving me a facial. That's a no-no. No one wants to hear someone putting on gloves or catching a whiff of the latex as they pass by your nose. Very off-putting. Next big turn-off: the steam that the aestheticians normally open the facial with was not used at all. I heard the machine turned on and wondered when it would be placed near my face where I could feel the effects, but it was never repositioned. Finally the machine was turned off and I was upset by this. Next big turn-off: Shelby was not gentle at all when giving me my facial. I did not feel relaxed at all. She performed the extractions after giving me the peel, which is strange considering it should be done in the reverse order. The extractions were such a painful process that I was tense the entire time and whatever stress that had been relieved from my massage was now ruined. Final turn-off: she wore a lab coat that kept hitting me in the head every time she turned her back to get a product for my face. After that awful facial was over, I go out and find my boyfriend is not done with his services...which was strange considering he was taken in 40 minutes before me...I waited another 10 minutes and he was done. We pay for tips and I ask him how his services were in the car and he said that he had an equally awful experience. I was crushed, considering I wanted him to relax for his birthday weekend. He said after his painful facial with Shelby, he was told the massage therapist would be in shortly in fifteen minutes and he could remain on the table to wait and relax. He said an hour went by...an HOUR...before Jordana came in and gave a 35-minute mediocre massage. I have to say that this whole experience somewhat ruined our day. We expected to be relaxed during the process and instead came out sore and upset. I recently cancelled my membership with the company because I had moved out of the area and utilized my remaining months/services only because I have 60 days to use them. I have a few sessions left and I can't imagine myself using them. I would rather lose money than return for the same experience or a worse one. I'm sorry, Massage Envy, but I will NOT be returning to your establishment. The massages and facials I had in the past from you were wonderful but this most recent experience was so awful that I will not be returning. read more

I'm not one to complain for no reason, but this now my 4th....FOURTH time that the Cromwell massage envy completely messed up. I came back into town today, rushing through loads of traffic to make sure I was ontime for my appointment (because otherwise I would have lost it completely). I get there with 10 mins to spare and am greeted by a very unhelpful receptionist who said I tried to call you at home (hadn't been in town for the last 2 days) to tell you that your therapist wasn't going to be available. No explain action given. No offer to try to reschedule. No explain action as to why they only tried to reach me at my home number...not my cell number...not my email....and not even think when they don't hear from me by the day of my appointment to try to follow up. Front desk was rude and crass. Called the manager...still waiting for a response after multiple attempts to reach them This same thing happened to my wife for an appointment I set up for her as part of her FIRST Mother's Day. Completely ruined the day. And this has happened 2 additional times. And for those we never even got a phone call. Just a lie saying they did call us (caller ID doesn't lie) I couldn't be more dissatisfied with the service here. Have been to several massage Envys before. Have never been treated this poorly. Even when an issue did arise, the manager completely resolved the problem (wasn't in the office but they called her on the spot and she resolved it instantly) I would not recommend this place as they have no idea how to handle their business read more

If you are thinking of getting a membership to Massage Envy - DON'T DO IT!!! Especially at the Cromwell location! I agree with the other bad reviews that are posted. The area manager Jessica does not call back and could care less about customer service. Even after you fulfill your 1 year contract, they scheme and scam and quote "the contract" in order to put your account into a status where you can't use your credits until you pay them even more. The Cromwell location and Massage Envy's business practices are shady. You can get better service AND a more professional massage at many other local spas for the same price and WITHOUT the risk of losing hundreds of dollars with their shady "contract". This has to be the worst Massage Envy Spa I've ever been to. I had a pre-natal massage here and the massage therapist was so afraid to touch me that I felt no relief whatsoever afterwards. I wasn't that far along in my pregnancy, so I'm not sure what the problem was. He seemed very inexperienced and timid. His touch was so light it felt like my three pound kitten was walking on me. I told him he could be a bit more aggressive but he still didn't change his approach. The worst part of the experience is that the sales people there give you a hard sell at the end to get you to enroll in their automatic monthly massage program, so be prepared. They don't want to take no for an answer. They are pushy and obnoxious. I said I'm moving out of the state and don't know how close I'll be to another Massage Envy, and don't think I'm allowed to have massages after a certain point in my pregnancy, so it would be a waste of money to enroll. They kept coming up with reasons why I should still enroll, when it was clear I was uncomfortable with the idea. Please stay away from this particular establishment.
