Due to heavy rush-hour traffic, I was running late but was still actively on my way to the appointment. Shortly after the appointment time, I received a call informing me that the appointment would not proceed. The following morning, I spoke with a staff member identified as Lynn regarding the situation. During that conversation, I was told the practice had a "zero tolerance" policy for VA patients regarding missed appointments due to us being "non-paying customers", despite the fact that I had been traveling to the appointment and had not intended to miss it. What concerned me most was being referred to in a manner that suggesting I was a "non-paying customer" because my treatment was being provided through VA Community Care. I found that comment disrespectful and unprofessional. I used to attend these appointments back when they first started accepting VA patients and had an excellent massage therapist named Merlyn and always tipped her very well. Not to mention the fact that the VA does pay for these services. I understand that businesses have scheduling policies, but patients--especially veterans receiving authorized medical care--should be treated with courtesy and respect. Unfortunately, that was not my experience.
