Renato and his crew came out to do a small job, installing a new paver walkway and properly edging a pre-existing walkway that was installed incorrectly by the original builder. While discussing the job with Renato he noted that the original builder had also installed one paver that was a different color than the others and offered to fix it while they re-did the edging (great!). Towards the end of the job I went out to take a look and noticed that the crew had incorrectly installed the edging pavers in an intermediate section of the walkway. Once informed they remediated the issue (again, great!). However, it appears as though when they did so, they accidentally reinstalled the mis-colored paver. Unfortunately I didn't notice it until the next day because they had to soak the entire walkway with water in order for the crushed stone to set, and so all of the pavers were wet and dark. Mistakes happen, I get it. But the reason for the 2 star review isn't that the mistake was made - it was how it was how Renato handled it (or didn't). Over the ensuing three weeks I texted Renato on three different occasions about the issue, asking him to have a crew return and resolve it. He didn't respond to any of my messages. Needed a walkway installed at new residence. Hired Mass Stone in spite of much higher rates than many smaller local competitors. Renato is a smooth talker and had some great references which I now wish id reaches out to in advance. The takeaway is this: I paid over $7K for a no frills walkway and in under a year grass is growing through in a dozen spots. Renato first said he would come and make necessary repairs. Then stopped taking my calls. Ive called from other phones to get through and he blames the poor quality of his work on the manufacturer of the sand his company uses. in 2020 we had a long front walkway from the driveway replaced, new stone steps done to replace the precast concrete steps and a series of 8 granite steps and pavers coming up a hill from the street. After the first winter, the largest top step separated from the pavers by 1/2". Mass Stone came and reset it. after two more winters, every granite steps had tilted forward and had about a 1" gap between the pavers and steps. The entire installation was set on about 2-3" of stone dust. I just had another contractor completely rip out the granite steps, put 8-12" of crushed stone under them and use permeable pavers so that the water will drain. when he took out the top section, he noticed that the stone steps were just set on stone dust when there should have been a 6" concrete foundation. At this point they seem to be ok along with the walkway, but clearly good practices were not used for the stone steps and granite steps from the street. Fingers crossed that I won't have to spend more money on this anytime soon. it has already cost an arm and a leg read more

We spent nearly $80,000 on our walkway and driveway two years ago it's in need of repair. We supposedly have a 5 year warranty. Been trying to get them out for a year now. Company will not stand by there warranty. For that reason I wouldn't recommend using them. read more

We had Mass Stone Landscape Construction build a two-tiered wall and extend our driveway. They were prompt, courteous, and did the work promptly. However, they did not construct the wall high enough to leave a lip when we pave. Renato told us to contact him once we smoke to asphalt companies and if he needed to extend the height one more level HE WOULD. We have reached out to Renato several times through various communication modes (phone, text, email, and social media) and received no response. The job was not a small one by any means, and it is disappointing not to have the job done correctly or entirely. Honestly, if we could get a call back and the work done I would have given them 5 stars. We really liked Renato, but to be ignored is a poor business practice. read more

Overall, Renato and his team were very impressive.They replaced my steps and walkway with granite and pavers over 4 days. They did a fantastic job during the entire project.....design, demolition, installation and cleanup. I had contacted numerous masons and he was the only one who was responsive and had some great design ideas....he had numerous pictures of his work, which really helped me see what kind of design would work best. The project cost was very reasonable. Before I finalized the contract, I spoke to several references and they had excellent comments about Mass Stone....including my neighbor. The people who actually performed the masonry work were very friendly, knowledgeable, efficient, punctual, clean and professional....real craftsmen. The owner, Renato, isn't true to his word. They don't stand behind their work or honor the warranties. Their work was snotty and needed some touch ups, After repeated calls to Renato, the owner, he never came back to the site to fix the issue. We got the repeated brush off. Renato Goncalves installed a 100 foot long paver driveway along with a walkway for us a couple of years ago. We were so impressed with his work (quality and design) that we had him come back the next year to build a rock wall along the front of our residence with pillars and lighting on each side of the driveway entrance. It transformed our house and our neighborhood for that matter. He worked with us on the design and costs so it would be affordable but still meet our expectations. I've never seen a team that worked that diligently. They could have done a better job on the wiring or the lighting but the stonework can not be surpassed.
