My experience with this shop and the owner Fred was terrible. I hired him to replace the EGR and battery. I called for an update and was told he wanted to drive the car some more. I said what? Drive the car some more. He wasn't suppose to drive the car at all. I did not authorize that. I get Fred on the phone and asked him why is he driving my car. Oh I need to test it. I said no you don't. Do not drive that car again I will be by tomorrow to pick it up. I get there and the car is filthy. It was detailed before I brought it to his shop. Upon further inspection I see a ton of brake dust on my wheels that were spotless when I dropped it off. I'm driving my car home and it's rattling like crazy. I'm like WTF. I get home and inspect the tires and see this car was ABUSED. see the photos. Also he used a half tank of gas. That 150 miles. This idiot beat on my car for 150 miles that's why it's rattling. See the pic of the tires and you tell me this car wasn't going sideways. I canceled payment and will never use this shop again. Oh and this shop was recommended by Brian Goodwin. Owner of Goodwin Racing a persons I've known for 25 years. I contacted him and sent photos and he says that's normal wear and tear on the tires. I said that's bullshit and you know it. Fred must be a good friend to screw over a person you've known for 25 years. Never use Goodwin Racing!!!!! This is I. Respond to Fred's comments. I told you NOT to drive the car. it was brought in and I told you specifically to replace the EGR and battery. None of these things requires you to drive the car. You saying I brought it in for a drivability issue is a LIE. The car was running perfectly when I brought it in. It would not pass anoh because the EGR would not open due to carbon buildup. A very common thing. So why did you need to drive the car when I told you what to do replace the EGR. This is BoT a drivability issue. You are lying to defend using a half tank of my gas!!! You are a lier and no one should trust you. The pics of the tires the half tank of gas you used and the brake dust buildup on the wheels tells the story. Why do you insist on lying. This is not looking good for you so drop this and stop driving cars you have no authority to drive!!!!!!! This is in response to Fred's Continuing lies on his second response. I DID NOT BRING THE CAR IN FOR A DRIVABILITY ISSUE. I BROUGHT THE CAR IN FOR YOU TO INSTALL A NEW EGR AND BATTERY. THERE IS NO NEED TO DRIVE THE CAR TO REPLACE THOSE ITEMS. AND WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT ME DELETING STUFF OFF THE ECU. THAT NEVER HAPPENED. JUST BECAUSE I HAVE AN ECU READER IN MY TRUNK DOES NOT MEAN IM DELETING STUFF. AND WHY WOULD YOU JUST ASSUME THAT. YOU CONTINUE TO LIE ABOUT THIS ISSUE. JUST STOP YOU ARE MAKING A FOOL OF YOURSELF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, what a dramatic response, full of deflection, b.s. and condescension. Let's break it down piece by piece so the truth isn't buried under all your backpedaling. 1. "You didn't want a code cleared; you wanted free work." False. I specifically asked for a simple code clearing, which requires plugging in an OBD scanner and pressing a button--something that takes less than a minute. If AutoZone can lend out scanners for free, why is Mason's charging $300 for what amounts to a quick tap on a screen? 2. "I offered you a code clearer (the little blue one, remember?) for free." Yes, you offered me a cheap (Temu) scanner that wasn't capable of doing what I needed. That's like a restaurant offering a paper napkin instead of an actual meal and then calling me ungrateful when I decline. You knew full well that scanner wasn't a solution. 3. "You wanted to use our $20K scanner to run a diesel regeneration for your 150K Mercedes van for free." First off, my request was for a simple OBD code clearing, not a full regeneration process. Second, you're conveniently exaggerating the situation to justify overcharging. A diesel particulate filter (DPF) regeneration is an automated process that the vehicle itself initiates under the right conditions. Many shops charge $100-$125 for a forced regen, not $300-$700. I even offered you $100 for what should be a basic service, but instead of a fair price, you went straight for highway robbery. 4. "We are a business, not a charity." Businesses that price gouge for simple services don't last. AutoZone, O'Reilly's, and other honest businesses let people borrow scanners for free. Charging $300 for something that takes 60 seconds isn't business--it's exploitation. 5. "You demanded we drop everything we were doing and do it for you right away." Another distortion. I was inquiring about a quick code clearing, which requires minimal effort. If your shop was too busy, you could have simply said so. Instead, you escalated the situation, turning a basic request into a drawn-out debate. 6. "Hopefully other shops in the area see this and see you coming!" Any decent shop that operates with transparency and fairness has nothing to fear. Unlike Mason's, a real "honest and great" shop would have provided a fair price instead of an absurd markup. Final Thoughts: Your entire response is built on exaggeration and an attempt to twist the narrative. If you were as "honest" as you claim, your pricing would have reflected industry standards, not a blatant cash grab. Instead of handling customer concerns professionally, you resorted to patronizing remarks, false accusations, and arrogance. Honest businesses earn their reputations by treating customers with respect, not by insulting them when they refuse to be overcharged. That's why I'll gladly take my business elsewhere--and I encourage others to do the same.

I thought I got screwed buying a used car from an older guy who seemed legit. I paid $2,300 in…read morecash, got a clean title, and was told all it needed was a CV axle. I figured I could handle that since I was tight on cash, and the repair wouldn't go over $500. After a quick test drive around the block--where I did hear some clicking, but it didn't sound too bad--I decided to buy it. On my 20-mile drive home, that clicking sound started raising doubts. It didn't seem like just a CV axle issue anymore, though I couldn't quite figure out what it was. The engine and transmission were running great, so I thought it had to be something simple, right? I took it to a highly-rated local shop, and they diagnosed the problem as the front differential or transmission (it's an AWD vehicle). Unfortunately, they said they don't work on transmissions. Well, FML. Next, I took it to a well-recommended transmission shop. After a few days, they confirmed the same issue and gave me a rough estimate of $1,900 to $2,500 for a used replacement. No rebuilt or new parts were available. FMLx2. I then brought it to my go-to guy, who's great at swapping parts and doing some diagnostics. He said he could handle the repair for $1,200, including sourcing a used part. But after two weeks of searching, he had no luck. FMLx3. At this point, I did my own research and decided if I could stay under $2,500, the repair would be worth it based on the car's value. I posted a project on Yelp to solicit bids from local shops. That's when Memo from AAMCO reached out. I was hesitant at first, but AAMCO has been around forever, and Memo seemed legit. I figured they'd either be the most expensive or the most reasonable since they specialize in transmissions. I checked reviews on Google and Yelp, and they looked good, so I decided to give Memo a shot. I dropped by to talk to him, and he was great--super communicative and really listened to my situation. I left the car with him, and the next day, I got a call. Of course, the repair exceeded my $2,500 budget. Same diagnosis: front differential/transmission replacement with a used unit. The estimate was $2,800, but they'd thoroughly inspect the replacement to ensure it was good. So close, but still over budget. I told him I'd call back. I was ready to schedule the car for auction and cut my losses, but something in my gut told me the car was worth saving. I called Memo back and asked if he could do it for $2,700. After some discussion, he agreed to work with me. Two days later, the car was ready. Memo had a surprise for me--the replacement transmission came with a new mount, and they managed to bring the total cost just under $2,600, nearly at my budget. THAT is honesty and integrity. I've been driving the car, and it feels exactly how a 20-year-old car in great shape should. No more clicking noises, and it's running beautifully. Since AAMCO handles other types of repairs, Memo and his team have officially become my go-to shop. I highly recommend seeing Memo at AAMCO if you need reliable, trustworthy service.
