Tikka Masala - Chicken

Ordered pickup and everything was great! Super nice staff, quick service , and food was excellent. Great choice when in Hilton Head!

This is a beautiful restaurant with outstanding Indian dishes. Granite tabletops, mosaic tile, unique glass tabletop water carafes, even gold tone silverware. We were a party of eight and everyone loved their food! Everything was fresh and delicious. Some of our party didn't want anything spicy and our server made menu recommendations accordingly. Each menu item indicates if it is nut free, dairy free, gluten free, or spicy. There's plenty of mild or spicy dishes to choose from. There's a whole section of wonderful vegetarian dishes, too. Excellent Naan - we tried Bullet (spicy), Onion, and Garlic Naan. All fresh and delicious. Service was excellent from start to finish. Don't miss this place for a wonderful dining experience. Highly recommended!

Garlic Naan

Were visiting from upstate sc; we had a fantastic meal at Masala Mantra! The paneer korma was rich and flavorful, and the tandoori chicken was perfectly seasoned and juicy. We started with a crispy papadum appetizer and loved the garlic naan, which was warm, fluffy, and full of flavor. Everything paired so well together. To finish, we had the kheer a rice pudding we always enjoy. It was a light, creamy, and comforting dessert perfect after a spicy meal. The food was delicious, but what really stood out was the amazing customer service. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and made us feel so welcome. Highly recommend if you're looking for authentic Indian food in a relaxed, inviting setting.

Let me start by saying that as a Hilton Head regular, I'm soooo glad that the island finally has a good Indian restaurant. We went on Christmas Day.. a party of 9. Our mistake that we didn't get reservations; it seemed like the whole local population was celebrating their Christmas there. :) The host, Vedh, was very welcoming; we were initially told it would be a one hour wait, but he accommodated us after 45 mins in the outside sitting area which we didn't mind. So let me start my ratings: Ambiance: 4/5.. best thing is that it doesn't look like the typical Indian "shop" style restaurant. Cheerful and basic and clean. Somewhat tight but that's nothing on the restaurant's side. Service: I can't rate this in all honesty because on Christmas Day, they only offered a buffet. But, because they accommodated us and were very courteous, I must say they would be a 4/5. I'm cutting 1 point because the food wasn't being filled as fast as it should and most of the dishes weren't piping hot as they should be. Food: Ok so the naans were a 5/5!!! The mango lassi was a 5/5. Samosas were 5/5... big and fully loaded with potatoes without the peas that other Indian places stuff and I hate! Other than that, I'd rate the few things that I ate as the following: Welcome drink/lemonade: 5/5 refreshing! Chicken biryani: 2/5 bland and tasteless Shrimp curry: 3/5.. curry was tasteless but there was a good amount of shrimps Saag peas: 2/5... just like a paste, tasteless and who puts peas in saag? Chicken tandoori: 4/5 Channa masala: 4/5 Lamb Rogan Josh: 4/5 on the gravy only (I didn't eat meat coz of Halal issues) Gobi Manchurian: 4/5 really crispy and nice Rice pudding/Kheer: 0/5... horrible watery.. porridge like Gulab Jamans: I could tell they were the packaged store bought Raita: 1/5... yogurt was smelly Chutneys: 5/5 Salad: 5/5 Fresh fruit: 5/5 They also had Chicken korma, Tikka masala, paneer something and butter chicken which I didn't try. Overall, it was soooo refreshing to eat desi food in such a beautiful environment! It's a very welcome change. I just think that it was over-priced because the bill for 9 buffets plus 7 drinks was $449. (And then with tip n all, it was well over $550.) So dissecting it, about $40/head was a bit over the top. I think the restaurant needs to re-look at their buffet pricing.

Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Rogan Josh, and Matar Paneer. Rice and naan.

Stopped in at this new Indian restaurant with my dad and my husband for dinner on Monday night. We split two orders of naan and three curries. We had the garlic naan and bullet naan (garlic with chili oil) - we preferred the garlic. For the means we had Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Rogan Josh (spicy in a good way), and Matar Paneer. All three came with with rice. We were full after all that food but could not resist the Gajar Halwa for dessert - yum! The decor is very warm and cozy; I loved the dark greens and golds throughout the place. Service was great.

Was excited to try Masala Mantra when visiting Hilton Head given all the great reviews online. I called them up several hours ahead of time to make a reservation, but was told by a gentleman that it wouldn't be necessary. We showed up shortly after 8 PM when much of the dinner crowd had already left and there were quite a few tables open. We requested an open booth by the window, but they insisted that we be seated in the interior of the restaurant in a table with half padded booth seating and chairs on the opposite side. When I asked again about sitting in a normal booth by the window, I got a very off-putting vibe from the guy when he refused, insisting that it's only for larger groups. I'm not very hard to please and treat others with kindness and respect, but I got a negative take-it-or-leave feeling from the staff at that point, so opted to take my business elsewhere. They clearly couldn't care less about losing a customer over something as simple as a preferred choice of table, when clearly many tables were open, which makes absolutely no business sense and is a major fail on the hospitality side. This was a first in my travels as businesses generally value the patronage of customers, but not Masala Mantra, so I would not recommend them to others. Luckily, Java Burrito Company was right around the corner with equally great reviews and they were happy to serve us with a smile.

Wonderful curry! Very tasty and good portion size. Rice portion was very small (hard to tell from the photo)

I ordered chicken biriyani, as I'm not a fan of sauces. Ah-mazing. It's such a simple dish, but it was bursting with flavor. The only down side was that it wasn't spicy enough. They offered extra spices though! Being a white girl ordering things "Indian spicy" usually gets me "white girl spicy" I wish I knew how to assure restaurants I can handle heat. Anyway, I also got the mango mojito. It paired well with biriyani and cut the heat quite a bit.

We were told there was a one-hour wait for dine-in and a 45-minute wait for takeout. We placed a takeaway order, but had to wait 75 minutes to get our food, which was disappointing. Since we were visiting the area and staying at a hotel, we asked for disposable cutlery. They did not have plates and provided only spoons and forks. About the food: -Butter naan and Paneer Methi Malai: 4/5 - good flavor and soft paneer. -Veg Hakka noodles: 3/5 - just average, nothing special. -Veg biryani: 2/5 - root vegetables were undercooked and almost raw, not flavorful, and not truly a biryani; it would be better described as pulao. The portion sizes were decent, but they did not follow our requested spice level and served the food mild to medium. Overall, we had a disappointing experience at this restaurant.

The server brought us lentil cracker and some nice sauces while we looked at the menu. I had the shrimp Marsala curry and asked for medium spice level. I thought it needed more spice and a couple of people dining with me had the same comment. Having said that the dish was delicious. The shrimp were huge and there were five or six in the sauce. The rice was pretty sparse and I could definitely have used more. The naan was a tad greasy. One of my friends ordered the lamb and found the meat a bit inconsistent as some pieces were more tender than others however I did notice he ate it all lol. The other diners were all happy with their entrees. I do think for the price they need to increase the rice and maybe include a piece of naan. I had the mango lassi and surprisingly it was warm- I had to really stir it around and wait for the ice to take effect before it was cool. So overall good- maybe a 3.8?

We kicked things off with the crispy chilli baby corn, and it was straight-up snack heaven. Crunchy, spicy, saucy -- basically everything you want in an appetizer. Washed it down with a mango lassi that was creamy and refreshing without being sugary sweet. Already winning at this point. But then... the kebab platter showed up. And I swear, it's one of the best kebabs I've had in a long time. So flavorful, juicy, perfectly cooked -- the kind of dish that makes you stop talking mid-sentence. We also tried their special biryani, and it hit all the right notes -- aromatic, tasty, and not greasy at all. Long story short: I now officially have a reason to come back to Pooler again, and it's spelled Naan Appetit.

There are a…read morecouple of notable things about Naan Appetit that I feel I must share because there is a similarly highly rated Indian restaurant within a stones throw away from Naan that it that also deserves comparison. I will review that restaurant under separate cover, but just know that when comparing this one to Persis, I would rate Naan Appetit as the better restaurant. But ultimately they are two different experiences within the Indian food category and for that reason are very hard to compare (more on that in the Persis review). But now let's talk about Naan Appetit. So what I really like about this restaurant is the value for the ambience and atmosphere. This is a very nicely appointed restaurant that I actually thought was a furniture store before we realized it was an actual restaurant. Very well appointed well designed and upscale in look, feel and function. Service is very strong with multiple servers and front of house greeting you immediately upon entry. We were seated within 3 to 5 minutes of walking in, and this was on a Friday night with a fairly full house. Once we were seated, our server immediately came over, provided us with menus and gave us a bit of information about the restaurant. We then proceed to ask a couple of questions about level of spice, and were really pleased with the servers descriptions of the various items on the menu and which ones we may or may not want to avoid depending on our spice level preference. I really appreciated the way the menu was set up which allowed for fairly easy decision making when it came to what we wanted to order. We went with mostly traditional entrees, ordering the lamb vindaloo, and the korma. Both were authentic and very well seasoned and spiced. We also ordered a couple of the garlic butter Naan bread, which were also really good. And lastly, we tried out the tandoori wings, which I had read on previous Yelp reviews were a highlight of the restaurant. When we first asked the server about them, he seemed a bit reluctant to recommend them because of the time it would take for them to be delivered to our table, which was approximately 30 minutes. We told him we weren't in a rush and didn't have anywhere else to be so we were totally fine with ordering them. It turns out that they ended up coming to the table before our appetizers even made it. So a bit of an overblown concern there. Outside of that little wrinkle, our overall experience was really pleasurable, especially given the sub $100 price point we paid including tip. This is definitely one of the restaurants we will be going to during our stay here in Savannah. And if I had to give the best advice on the difference between this restaurant and the other, I would say pick this for date night and pick the other one for family night.
