Ordered the Chicken Curry, the saag, and 2 naan breads. The chicken in it was fantastic, but the sauce and rice are TOGETHER in the box. Tons of rice underneath the curry. I prefer to add my own amount of rice, like when they are served separately. These were not, and it diluted both Curry and Saag. So very disappointing. And for $60??? The guy in there is EXTREMELY nice, but the rice needs to be separate from the curries. Will never go here again. read more

This place is authentic food is clean and lovely people always friendly and very welcoming. It's a good carry out or dine in place small but nice read more

Masala and rice together in the box so all the curry gets soaked up. The naan was crunchy and not soft. I've had way better for the same price. Gave three stars because the chicken was tender. read more

$7.50 for a bowl of super salty rice and spinach lentils Lunch. Got to checking my account and found they charged me nearly $20. Ack. Rice and lentils. That's an in-house cost of $1.00 plus a soda. Go figure. And it was not the best. I will not be back. read more

This is a great place to satisfy your indian food cravings. The spices are spot on. Do not let the prices scare you, the quality of food and the large portion size is worth every dollar. Highly recommend. Gita and Vijay (the owners) use their own spice recipes for the real deal authentic Indian food. read more

So delicious, and the owners are very friendly! I can't believe it took this long for us to try them out! Definitely will be back for more! Tip, call and order ahead, as there is a bit of a wait for to go orders. Worth the wait! read more

Holy masala!!! That saag, that Aloooooo naan naan naan. If you haven't tried this place it needs to be apart of your next dinner night. Incredible owners and hands down the best food in Gladstone. So so thankful and that party on my mouth is on fire. Love this place. Side note: Bring cash to tip. Or mention the tip prior to checking out. read more

Pro's: quirky location and interior that epitomizes "hole in the way" restaurant. Flavor of food is really good...tastes like a home-cooked meal that is authentic in flavor for that type of food. Price is good and the portions are quite large. Service was good Con's: Dining in space is small Verdict: I would come back again, the overall experience was honest, good, and well worth the money. read more

I ate there a year ago and the food was good . I just ordered the masala curry and it was watery as can be with really no flavor at all. I was really disappointed in the dish and for $25.00 I will not be back for it was not worth the money. Also $5.00 for plain Naan. Way over priced for what you get. Very disappointed in the whole meal. read more

Came here as a result of the high Yelp reviews but was disappointed. I love Indian food and have not found an Indian restaurant in Portland that is amazing, so was hoping that this would be the place. The owners were incredibly friendly and the prices are reasonable. Tried the chicken curry and the salmon vindaloo but felt that we could have made both dishes at home - they really just weren't very tasty. Also, neither dish had much sauce so there wasn't much excitement going on. The naan bread was different, I would say either very greasy or buttery. Wish I'd had a better experience. I don't expect I'll be trying it again. read more

Where do I start? The folks that own and operate Masala Box have it dialed in! Tried their food, decided it was exactly what we were looking for, for our sons 30th Surprise Party! They had a feast ready to be picked up, on a Sunday afternoon, on time, and perfect. Everyone at the party were so impressed with the quality, they are now fans, as we are, of Masala Box. Thank you so much, MB for being a part of our son's perfect party! We of course, will be back. read more

Very limited menu, yet we didn't mind. The seasoning and spices were outstanding. The portions are huge. We get their food at least once a month. Reasonable and great flavors. NOT a good lassi though. read more

We just went today and they were so friendly! The food is amazing and so flavorful. I would definitely recommend.

The old adage, don't judge a book by it's cover definitely applies here. I will be the first to admit that when we came up to this place, we were very skeptical. From the outside it looks like an old Mini Market. There are a few tables and not many items on the menu. But, that didn't stop us and we went in anyways and we were so glad we did. So the first thing to keep in mind about this place is that it's actually South Indian food. So the items that you might be expecting may not be on their menu. But don't let that stop you. We ordered the Chicken Masala, Shrimp Vindaloo, Samosa, and Naan and it was all phenomenal. Everything is home made from scratch made to order in house. I've been to India before and this brought back strong memories from there of the home cooking from the families we stayed with. The Naan was some of the best I've ever had. The portions are more than adequate, we couldn't finish the small. And they have a pretty decent beer selection on the side wall you can choose from as well as a small tap list. (If you want the real India experience, I recommend Kingfisher. It's everywhere in India) The other thing I wanted to point out about it is the hospitality. Going beyond the food, I think this is probably a husband and wife team who run this place. The lady behind the counter was extremely knowledgable and advised us on the best ways to experience the meal and she was spot on. Plus she was very friendly. The man running the kitchen came out and personally asked us to make sure the food was ok. That's the kind of hospitality I feel like you don't see much anymore and made us feel very welcome there. Everything is very clean and I would highly recommend dining in to get things as fresh as possible. You should definitely give this place a visit. read more

Fantastic food! Great prices and generous portions. We usually get a small size for two people. Very friendly owners. It's one of our neighborhood favorites. read more

It's so delicious food because we made to order after we pick up and enjoy food.this food prepare at the time in other words it freshly

This place is amazing! I'm so glad we stopped by, super nice people and the food is second to none! Made fresh to order so it takes about 15 to 20 minutes for your food but it's well worth the wait. There are only a few tables so it's probably best to get your food to go. The food really speaks volumes here! Don't let the convenience store vibe throw you for a curve, this place is dank! P.S. they do accept cards but you won't be able to tip with a card so bring a few bucks for the tip jar if you're paying with your card read more

Love love love masala box. There's really nothing like it around this part of town that compares.

If you want a decadent Samosa, and a killer Mango Lassi to pair! Then the Masala Box is the place for you! Amazing customer service! AMAZING FOOD!!!! The Mango Lassi kills the worst thirst on this 97 degree day. Sitting here waiting for my Chicken Masala Curry if it's anything like the Samosa I won't be hesitant to drive the 45min here again! Amazing! Amazing! Amazing! P.S. Remember People "We Use Our Fingers Here!" read more

I think there is some rating manipulation going on here. Very over priced, considering a dish is more than 70% rice and ranges from 16-20 dollars. Not sure how this fell in the one $ range. Food was average, bland, over salted, and watery. Also, did not taste fresh. Naan has been fried and the rest reheated. Quite disappointed as I love Indian food and there isn't a lot in this area, but I would not come back here. read more

These 2 people are so cool and the food is awesome. Seriously. You have to go there. I literally am starving while I write this and I'm tempted to make this a shorter review than most simply because I want drive down there and eat. Last time I was there I rode my motorcycle and the guy (hey, I suck with names) sat and talked with me my entire meal about livable wages in Portland and motorcycles. How cool is that? I hope for my sake this place never gets super busy or ends up on Diners, Drive-In's and Douchebags because I'd be super pissed to have to wait for that Tandoori Chicken. Ok, seriously. I'm going. Think this is a fake review all you want, I'm going to get some damn food. read more

Love Love Love this little Mom and Pop shop!!!! The owners work 7 days a week to keep this place running! The owners are super friendly. We had a long conversation while waiting for the food she made me feel like I was meeting a friend for lunch instead of picking up a Togo order. I ordered a spicy Chicken Masala which a fellow Elite said is a must have, and she was right! The spice was just right I asked for Spicy and it just had the perfect hint of heat without drowning out the flavors. The nan was so warm and light I couldn't stop eating it and I had to tell the S/O I had forgotten it since it never made it home... oops Yeah it was that good! The Masala spices and chicken merry well together and the rice and potatoes complimented the dish perfectly. Amazing little lunch spot hidden in downtown Gladstone if you blink you'll miss it so if you get to McLoughlin turn around you went to far. Also this location is mere feet from to great Gladstone parks so this place is in a great location to get your food Togo and dine out in front of the Clackamas river on one of the many park picnic tables and enjoy the view. I know come spring I will be here weekly! Wish I'd of discovered them sooner. I'm dismayed at all the picnics I shorted myself of this summer... read more

Decided to stop in here to grab lunch after going to the library. Was surprised to find that the owner cooks your food once you order it. There's a short wait (20-30 mins) because of this. It's completely worth the wait! Everything is homemade from scratch and authentic. The naan is so good, you won't be able to go back to the stuff you get from the store. Had a conversation with the owner about spice/heat rating. He knew so much about peppers, heat, and the scientific measurement of heat that I went home and Google searched a bunch of stuff. Extremely knowledgeable and caring about his patrons. read more

This is my favorite Indian food place in Milwaukie AND Portland!!! You can't beat the price and the quality of the food. Everything is fresh and handmade and the owners are so sweet. I come here multiple times a month just for the Samosas and naan...the chicken, shrimp, and chickpea masala are all amazing. Cannot recommend enough. Make sure to order ahead and get everything to go if you're in a large group as seating options are minimal. read more

Woo! A rare 5 stars, both for food and for hospitality! My sister and I stumbled upon this hole in the wall (possibly converted convenience store) restaurant while we were staying at the Holiday Inn Express in Gladstone, OR. We ordered a small order of the chicken masala to go since neither of us were hungry but decided to eat it there. The owner immediately brought out cups of for water, plates, paper towels, and silverware and asked us if we needed anything else. The portion was huge and both my sister and I were pretty satisfied afterwards. The chicken was tender, spicy, and very delicious! It tasted very home made and made with love! 10/10 would recommend this establishment and will be back if I'm ever in the area. read more

Enjoyed an amazing meal that was authentic Indian! This is the real thing, not Americanized! Loved it

Amazing, authentic Indian food, aka don't come in asking for paneer or butter chicken. Instead, try the fresh samosas (just $2), sweet mango lassi or coffee (also somehow only $2), and the chicken masala. The husband-wife duo is welcoming, gracious, and more than happy to share a few laughs. My family will be returning soon for the naan, shrimp vindaloo, and eggplant curry! Thanks for a wonderful meal and experience! read more
