Very good home style Indian dishes. Food is prepared to your spiciness preference. Order in advance and the food is ready at the time promised. Excellent value for the price, you'll probably have leftovers for the next day. Very friendly service. This is take out only, so ambience is minimal. read more

We called in An order during a road trip and our food was ready for us by the time we got there. I have to say, the Masala was bomb as fuck and the spicy saag paneer was rich and bold! The service was warm and kind and they spoke to us like family. Will for sure be returning! Also, before we got there, this one guy was being a total blow hard to them and it made me sad, and they handled it with grace and dignity while kindly explaining "our orders are made to order for the customer because we want to make the food right for them" (paraphrasing hard here, but you get it) they take their time to make a special meal and that's something we overlook and take for granted these days. read more

I ordered the Chana Masala spicy/hot, and it hit the spot! The box was so full, I Definitely recommend. The spice level was perfect, too. The restaurant is pretty small, so you might miss it driving by. There is a bright yellow sign and a parking lot to pull into. Don't miss it! read more

Masala Box - Vegan Channa Masala Over Basmati Rice (one size) - Indian Near Me - Gladstone, Oregon

I almost forgot to leave a review for this little gem. This is a no-frills authentic place to get some Indian food. There are two tables (outside the grocery store) where you can eat a piping hot (temperature) Indian meal that's a bit spicy but not too spicy. Coming over here feels very hygge on a rainy day in the Pacific Northwest. I recommend the vegan vindaloo made of soy "chicken." The owners (a couple who worked in the corporate world for decades, retired, and then started this grocery store and restaurant) are very nice. Superior customer service! Unfortunately, I always came here after a long day of "working from home," so I didn't feel particularly chatty or inclined to interact much with them. They got the hint and left me alone. My only suggestion would be to incorporate some green vegetables into your meals. That's the only reason why I didn't come here very often. Not because the food was bad (it was very good!) but because I eat a lot of green veggies on a daily basis and I just wasn't getting any here. read more

Called in an order. Waited 40 min for it. I go to pick it up and the guy gave it away to someone else. Very frustrating. The guy says that I should know the person.....I have no idea who this stranger is who grabbed my food prior to me arriving. Def not going back. read more

Oh my goodness, this is legitimate Indian food! Best in Oregon, best I've had in years! Not filled with creamy sauces... fresh and light. Naan and paratha both fresh and delicious. Steamed Basmati rice imported from India! I can't say enough about the Saag - bursting, spiced layers of flavor! Casual location, don't expect fine dining. Bring your own to-go containers and they'll fill em up. Wonderful owners filled with knowledge and history; we could have stayed here all night. See all our empty plates? Yes! We'll be back! read more

This little ground floor family business is so good and it reminds me of ground floor food shops in India. They make great Masala, Spicy Saag, yummy samosas and home made chutneys. The owner/chef is super nice and entertaining. He is rightfully proud of his naan. Not much eat in space, better to take out or sit outside at one of the little tables. read more

Great Indian food at fairly reasonable prices. The menu is pretty limited but though. There are about 10 main course options. I usually get the chicken dish and it's delicious. You probably don't want to dine-in. The ambiance is akin to a mini market. It's more of take-out place in my opinion. read more

First time trying and only got the samosas but they're incredible! The man and woman behind the counter are lovely and personable, he even brought my food to my car when it was ready because they make it all fresh! Definitely try, order ahead if you mind a wait for fresh food. Will be back- maybe once a week read more

This places is one of my favorites! It's a small restaurant but the service, the food is delicious ... tasty! ... and the sizes are very generous! The Malassa chicken is my favorite! And they also offer a smoothie mani ... the best ever! The people who work there make you feel amazing, they are very polite, talkative and give you some tips if you are of the place! read more

5 Star Rating because: *Completely authentic/made from scratch *Huge portions *Complex flavors with perfect spice level *Light and healthy/not swimming in ghee *Charming/passionate/humorous/informative Chef owner who is very dedicated to quality and sharing his culinary knowledge I started with the samosas and green chutney (VJ kindly shared his recipe). Excellent samosas and perfect chutney not dumbed down by watery yoghurt as is commonly done in most Indian restaurants. My made-from-scratch meal arrived family style which was seriously enough for 4 people. Lunch consisted of the best Saag I've had (close to my own), fluffy perfect Basmati rice, buttery delicious hot Naan, and outstanding Chicken Masala. For me this was home cooking at its best. I admit I'm an Indian food snob and have had some training. If you don't know how to cook Indian food your standards may be different than mine. You might even enjoy some of the wretched Indian buffets around Portland, or some of the the other popular spots. If pdx has failed to live up to your expectations for authentic Indian food then try this place. My only complaint? The menu is so small and limited. Would love to taste everything this wonderful chef can create. read more

I loved the two employees who I believe are the owners, they are so sweet and welcoming! They prepped each meal individually and focused on our needs with detail! So delighted to have discovered this amazing little spot! We placed our order without anticipating the sheer size of the servings and as a result, we all had loads of delicious leftovers. Went here on a whim. Small place. It is a small convenience store, with damn good Indian food. It is ran by two amazing people that seem to love their jobs and are happy to see you when you walk into their store. We ordered the medium spicy level of the curry, I love spicy and cans handle some real spice. But the way they prepared it was great and had the perfect level of spice. Will definitely be coming back. read more

Excellent freshly made food with fresh ingredients. No added sugar, no dairy but very tasty. Good sized portions at reasonable prices. Very limited seating, 2 indoor tables and 2 outdoor tables. You know what's great about Masala Box? The DMV. You know what's great about the Gladstone DMV? Masala Box. Of course if you're are nearby, they are great and tasty! The Gladstone DMV is near the Clackamas River swimming area-park. It is less crowded than other DMV, free parking, worth the trip. And it's near this small convenience store that cooks Indian food. DMV: https://www.yelp.com/biz/department-of-motor-vehicles-gladstone Large portions and a very reasonable price. WiFi and outdoor seating, weather appropriate, too. The family that runs it are super, eat in or carry out. Even if you are not visIting the DMV! Go if you are close, go if you DMV, go anyway! read more

This was a really good meal. Although you can eat in, it's like eating in the middle of a 7-11, so recommended for take-out only. There are only about 8 items on the menu. Since this was my first visit, I asked the owner what his specialty was. I got a very long non-answer about all the things he wished could be on the menu, so I switched tactics and asked what two dishes he recommended for two people to share and again got a non-answer. I heard a similar routine with another customer about samosa ingredients, so it definitely wasn't just me. Despite the weirdness, received huge servings of delicious, spicy food - enough for five people at least! The naan is a pass, but I'd go back again for sure. read more

Home cooked and authentic! Very small menu but, if you want real Indian food this is your stop. I have tried several vegetarian dishes as well as the chicken masala and they are all absolutely wonderful. Strong flavors and unique spices but absolutely a must try if you love authentic ethnic foods. I'm a fan of Indian food and have had naan all over the city but this is the best. Stop by on a sunny day and enjoy the outdoor seating and a mango smoothie. Also, the vegetarian samosas are to die for and come with a delicious green sauce that is unique and fresh. read more

Over salted because the food had been reheated over and over despite the owner talking our ears of on how he prepare his food fresh to order including showing us the tomato and onion that he said he is going to cook with. Turns out from reading other reviews he did the same act of showing the Veg to everyone! Wow. Quite an act there sir. lol. When we received the food no way that the potatoes have developed the color of the dish if it's only cook 30 minutes ago. I understand that stew type of food is better the next day because all the flavor will marry beautifully, but in this case because it's been reheated for God knows how long, all we can taste is salt. salt. salt We also ordered naan. He deep fried the naan. Because the oil that he used was not fresh, the naan was so greasy and tasted like overused dirty oil. it's disgusting. read more

I don't get it. Portions were big but was so spicy (1 star) we toughed it out through lunch and threw the leftovers out the next day because all it was was heat, not flavor. The saag was disappointing. Maybe an off day, I don't know. To me this is the worst Indian food I've had between here and Seattle. read more

Great neighborhood spot with delicious samosas and friendly staff. Have enjoyed everything I've tried there.

The Masala Box is a very small mart with some simple homemade food. We entered with various others coming and going to pick up cold drinks and be on their way. The gentleman who recently took over the building explained the food carefully, gave us a history on the businesses there before him and was very obliging. We were excited to stop in and try the food. His kitchen was newly repaired from the previous tenants. Everything behind the door was shining and clean. As most locals know, Indian food is hard to find in this area. We were crossing our fingers that the Masala Box would be a place we could get our frequent Indian food fix. Crossing our fingers paid off. We will be regulars for pick up dining from now on. Do not be deceived by the mini mart exterior in a not so pretty area of Gladstone. This is a homemade family kitchen. I felt rather honored to be there (trust me when you taste this food, you will agree). No false pretenses. Simple, pure, honest Indian food. There is not a Sysco food truck in sight and thank the universe for that. The menu is small and staple. We tried two very common dishes. The Chicken Curry, the Saag, a Vegetable Samosa and some Naan. The Chicken Curry was good. It was very traditional and the chicken was not dry. I would put it up as a solid contender. Now the Saag was simply a winner. It was perfectly seasoned. The spiced spinach, tomato and zucchini melted into the fluffy basmati rice. It was rich and creamy without the presence of dairy. No cream and no butter, it did not disappoint. It exceeded all of my expectations. I will be eating this dish from Masala Box from now on. Everything about this Saag was brilliant. I can see why he has been making his Saag this way for forty years. The Naan was pillowy and crispy with fine flavor. The Samosa was delicious. He let us sample his special for the day, Paratha Bread, which he did not charge us for. If he has it in the future, get it. It is like a thin, flaky, buttery biscuit. Ridiculously good. There is nothing on the menu over ten dollars (and those that meet the ten dollar mark are family sized seafood portions such as shrimp and salmon). You can walk out with a stomach full of good food, and most likely some leftovers for less than five dollars. Twelve dollars fed two grown adults and a child with enough leftover to take home in a box. Quality and quantity fit in here at Masala Box. Certainly try this Indian kitchen for local, delicious Indian food and a very sincere gentlemanly owner. read more

The food, the owners...amazing. A true hidden gem. The saag, samosa & chicken curry were spectacular. The service over the top excellent. Who would expect a super small convenient store to cook such delicious food? I certainly hesitated when Google maps told me that I have arrived. I gave the place a chance because of the high ratings on Yelp and I've been back multiple times ever since! This little convenient store only has 3 tables inside and 2 tables outside. Most customers take their food togo when I come during dinner time. The couple who owns and runs this place is extremely friendly and cooks delicious food! Masala Box - Chicken Paratha. I took a bite before I took the picture, I couldn't wait. - Indian Near Me - Gladstone, Oregon

Indian food can be difficult to find in the suburbs so we were excited to stumble upon this place when looking for take out in the Gladstone area! It's not much to look at from the outside, in fact we accidentally drove right past the first time by. It looks more like a mini mart but does have it's own parking lot. We ordered the Chicken Masala Curry, Vegan Samosas, and a side of naan. The total cane to a little of $40 which seemed a bit steep for take out for 2 people but when we got home we realized we had over ordered and had enough leftovers for lunch the next day. The size options they had given us for the Chicken Curry was not the same as what we had seen listed on menu pictures so we just said Regular size which ended up being the $20 order, we would have been fine with the smaller order which we now know. The food was flavorful and tasty. We picked medium spicy and I might try hot next time as I did not find it particularly spicy. I wished the chicken had a bit more sauce but overall it was great. The side order of naan came with only one piece which we didn't realize and were a bit surprised at given the large portions of the other items. We would order again when we get a hankering for Indian food! read more

This is a locally owned tiny Indian food takeaway spot kinda not really located by the highway. While they do have a limited number of not very comfortable seats inside should you so be inclined the true focus of this spot is take out food. It's not really all that much to look at from the outside, and the inside decor is early convenience store. They do have a range of beer, wine and other soda/juice things to go along with what is pretty good cuisine. The menu is subject to change depending on all sorts of factors but will typically include three veg and three meat items, along with samosas, lassi and coffee. Be warned that Indian filter coffee is heavy on chicory. Not a bad thing but some folks aren't expecting it. We went with chicken biryani and chana masala along with (of course) samosas. The birayani was excellent. I like how when we placed to order they asked us what we wanted for the spice level. Not every place does that. the portions are pretty big. We had enough leftovers to make lunch the next day. They were abundantly friendly. They gave us extra chutney's for the samosa's without us asking and at no charge, and if you don't know a lot about this style of cuisine they are more then happy to explain things. Pricing is reasonable-you are looking at ten dollars a plate ish. It's not perfect by any means-the chana masala was just average in quality, and while I totally enjoyed the biryani this may not be food that will be world changing for you. Still when it's all said and done this a dang good hole in the wall for decent everyday Indian food. read more

I was craving some Indian food and I was told Masala Box was good so thought I'd give it a try. Ohhhhh Myyyyyy am I happy I did! I got chicken tikka curry, samosa and naan. I'm so glad I got Two naan because there was enough curry for three full meals! There were 5 full chicken thigh and two big potatoes! Along with about 4 cups of basmati with sauce!!! I got the medium spice and it was perfect!! What I got was the 'regular' size thinking it would be enough plus a tad of left overs.... man oh man! The gentleman who brought it out said that if I was eating there it would be served 'family style' with the sauce separate from the rice but because I was doing take away they put it all on top of the rice - he was so nice and said if I brought my own containers he could put everything separately for me :) I don't mind - it gets mixed anyway lol I will definitely be back!! read more
