I had been meaning to go to masa for quite some time. I heard it was a great place to eat. So I finally went! Is it good? Long story short, yup. I was really impressed with the decor. The walls and tables had a dark wood finish that gave it a sophisticated look, while keeping it cultural. The lighting was also fitting for the style as well. Very impressed with the staff. Prompt and attentive. The food was very good. It tasted very fresh and had a ton of flavor to it. They also give you large portions as well! The only downside is the price. I wasn't expecting it to be as much as it was, but it's nice for an occasion or just a night out. I got the General Tso's Chicken and the Flying Dragon sushi roll. The chicken was very very fresh. The glaze on it was done just right that it wasn't too sticky or too runny. The sushi was also very good. It was the first time I had a garlic sauce added to it! Masa met all of my expectations of an Asian fusion restaurant. The ambiance in the restaurant sets a great tone and vibe for the restaurant. The booths are intimate and the color schemes are perfect with blacks, grays and blues. I went to Masa for a family dinner. Our server was attentive and met our needs in a very timely manner. They have a great wine, beer and cocktail selection. The four of us ordered the white lump crab and cream cheese wontons which comes in four which was perfect for us. We also ordered a California roll which is pretty simple and what you expect. For entrees we ordered the Thai coconut curry, surf and turf, chicken teriyaki and chicken stir fry noodles. All of the above were season perfectly and generous portions. Not to mention they came out within 15 minutes of us ordering. When I visit Tallahassee again I look forward to coming back. read more

I enjoyed the atmosphere, but expect warm, dark colors as there isn't much pizazz . Our server and the rest of the wait staff were absolutely fantastic. Came during graduation weekend, was pretty busy. Drink took a while to be served and so did the food. My edamame was served lukewarm and I did not finish the bowl. The waiter also noted when serving me my sweet and sour chicken that the rice would be coming soon, as they were plated separately. A tasty hotness in a beautiful arrangement! My friend has their sweet and sour chicken, and it was one of the best we've ever had (obviously I had to try it! Let's start with the positive, we were a party of seven that came here to celebrate a birthday and we had a lovely server who was just great all around. The food however, was almost all bad, very very bad. The one bright spot was the calamari appetizer which is more of a salad as the fried calamari was served on a bowl of greens, nonetheless pretty darn yummy. Two in our party played it fairly safe by ordering pad Thai, which tasted like the noodles came from a stale three year old forgotten box at the bottom of a dusty pantry and to then was over cooked in a bland ketchupy sauce. I couldn't even go in for a second bite of what the first confirmed to be awful. I ordered the red curry duck which came out minus the red curry sauce on a mound of pale beige canned pineapple. Rather than crisping the fatty skin they opted for slightly roasted more gummy fat layer. My wife ordered shrimp curry and truthfully stated that she could make better curry at home. Hers is in fact way better. Similarly, my daughter's ramen order fell very flat being a quite bland bowl of loveless broth. The worst bit may have been the side order of fried rice, because something so simple and basic ought be hard to ruin. They did. I'd bet that the vast majority of FSU kids could bang out a better fried rice than this ugly bowl of mess that tasted like they took the leftover white rice off the plates of the customers from last week and splashed on some fake soy sauce and then after not bothering to stir and even it out, just nuked it in the microwave. My dad is my sushi date and we are always up for trying new menu items. My go to sushi roll is a philly roll and masa does an amazing job with theirs. However, the last time my dad and I went to Masa I tried the Orange Blossom which is a salmon sashimi dinner on top of sushi rice.(it comes with roe but I'm not a big fan of it so I had it taken off) I got the small size and thank goodness I did because I would never have been able to eat the full size. The service was great and the food was amazing! The woman who was serving us was training a new waiter and they were both super kind and helpful. We ordered the Edamame and Shanghai Crispy Shrimp starters, Fried Jumbo Scallops with Blackbean Sauce and Penang Braised Beef as our entrees, and Green Tea Crème Brule for dessert. This was my second time actually going to Masa. I had to wait longer than I would have liked before someone came to greet me. But once someone appeared they were very apologetic for my wait and seated me quickly. The setting is very intimate and clean. There are both table and booth seating. They have a regular bar with stools and a sushi bar. My waitress was very nice and attentive. I had the Thai Basil Fried Rice. It was a generous amount. I couldn't even finish it all in one setting. The rice came out piping hot and fairly quickly. It was very good. I always had a Spicy Tuna roll, it tasted fresh. A crisp outer shell and a creamy crab filling. There are 4 large wontons. The 4 wontons were almost a meal in themself. I had the tenderloin beef tips with broccoli. It was more than I could eat. It's a lot of broccoli and a lot of meat. My brother had the walnut shrimp with broccoli. The shrimp were very large. The entire portion was big and he too took a carry out of leftovers. They give you chop sticks with simple directions on the package but they also give you the easy way -- a fork. Just ask for a knife if your meal doesn't come with one. The drinking glasses are a weird shape. Almost like the glass is warped. I included a picture. Rather neat looking. Just different. Ummm so pretty much like the best cocktails I've ever had. I got matcha made in heaven and it's my new favorite drink. I also got the one with blueberry and gin? I forgot the name. But that was also pretty great. My boyfriend ordered another matcha cocktail and his wasn't as good as mine. His had way too much syrup. A little bit of inconsistency, but it was still good. The sushi isn't the best I've ever had, but it was more than good enough. I got the mermaid roll, which was super interesting. But I don't think I'd get it again. I can't remember what the other rolls were, unfortunately Lettuce roll ups were just OK. The sauce was extremely salty. I am not positive the menu mentioned cilantro and my boyfriend HATES cilantro. Parking is usually okay, but when it's super busy you might have to circle once or twice. Reservations aren't always necessary but definitely makes things easier. Their mixed drinks are so. good. Sangria or wine is good too. Prices for the alc are pretty normal. Sushi or regular meals both are great. The meals are a great proportion and I'm always satisfyingly full afterwards.
