Here's the thing: I don't eat steak, pork, or most of the meats they specialize in, and I'm not a big fan of buffet or all‑you‑can‑eat restaurants in general. We came here because a coworker invited us, and she was being really kind, so I didn't think to check the price beforehand. I ended up only eating the salad, and with dessert my total came to about $66. For someone who doesn't eat the main attraction, that price felt a bit high -- honestly, I felt a little ripped off, LOL. Not the restaurant's fault at all; this is exactly how churrascarias work. It just wasn't the best match for my eating habits. Next time, I'll politely turn down the invite or suggest a different spot that fits my preferences better. But if you do enjoy steakhouse-style dining and want the full Brazilian churrasco experience, Barbacoa delivers exactly what it promises.

I love several other Churrasacarias in São Paulo, but this one is a real standout. We had a group dinner with friends and coworkers, and we were led to a large table, and the staff fawned all over us. They were very accommodating and friendly. The food and wine were all top-notch, and they brought whatever cut of meat you asked for, instead of waiting for the "good stuff" like the Picanha. The salad bar was great as well, although I was a bit disappointed that they didn't have any Feijoada, which is usually a staple at any Churrascaria in Brazil. Again, there are several good Churrascarias here, but if you want the best, you won't get any better than Barbacoa!

Then there is cig kofte--a Turkish spin on steak tartare, and some of the most delectable dolma I have ever tasted. The staples of babaganoush, hummus, tabouleh and salads were spot on. As were the roasted vegetables. The Pulau (rice) was spot on. Baklava and other instagrammable pastries were on show. The stuffed peppers were yummy. The entree that I could not get enough of was the moussaka. Whereas the Greek version is often mild and homogeneous, this Turkish version is much louder in flavors and punchier. Did not get to all of the items on the spread--too many mind blowing options! Get a plate and pay by weight. Or go for the buffet if you can't restrain yourself...like me. Teşekkür ederim.

We dined on a holiday, so there were very few patrons. The buffet was good and most of the food was hot. You can also order grilled meats to your liking. The salad bar was quite varied and included a few soups. The main bar was extensive and I tried to sample a bit of everything. I loved the okra! Because of the holiday, they didn't have any cakes out, just a selection of puddings. Some were good, others were...interesting. There is also a kind of tequila with little plastic cups for shots. We had all had 2 each, a nice way to end the night. There was a cherry liqueur, but to me it was too much like cough syrup, so I didn't enjoy that. I had to caiprihanas, and while good, they were over $8 each and I wound up spending more on drinks than the meal! If I return, I'd not order the drinks. Servers also brought various delicious breads and sausages to table. Then the feijoada buffet. It's a traditional bean and rice dish, where you add various meat in sauce toppings. Too many different choices of meats, but I tried them all, except the pig ear. The owner stood by and made sure to offer assistance if needed. A true host. You can tell he is proud of his establishment and maintains very high standards. Even the chef (owner's son) came out to make sure diners were having a great dining experience. Then a massive dessert table. And everything was delicious. On top of that, the waiter brought a papaya fruit purée thing with a liquor added. Refreshing. Ambiance: a perfect blend of trendy upscale casual with old world charm. Clean, very clean, very nice, top everything. If you are in São Paulo, you must come here. Can't wait to come back.

One which still shows up on Google. We Ubered to the old location and spent a while trying to find a restaurant that is no longer more. My Brazil guidebook touched on their lunch buffet. That is no more at the new location either. The current location is inside a museum. You have to pay admission to the museum to dine at the restaurant. Even if you have no interest in checking out the museum. Safe to say, we were off to a rocky start. Things did turn around magically, however. Admission to the museum pays to help preserve the Amazon. At least our money was going to a good cause. Sustainability is a theme here as you see sustainable materials being used throughout the restaurant. We were seated on the lovely patio which is made to recreate the Amazon with a lot of greenery and trees. I started off with a fresh juice as I looked over the menu. I ordered the pork cutlet with tomato risotto. It may have been my favorite dish on my Brazil trip. The pork was succulent and flavorful. The risotto mirrored it as the fresh tomatoes and combination of ingredients made it arguably the best risotto I've ever had. Service was good. Capim Santo is not cheap. And we ran into a couple of frustrating roadblocks. But with that being said, I can't fail to applaud the restaurant for the quality of its food and the lovely surroundings.

I would be surprised if they have not replaced the chef with a new, less skilled one. Cranberry sauce wasn't jellied. Stuffing had no French herbs (sage is integral to the flavor) and they treated the stuffing like it was farofa so there was pork fat in it that made it unappealing. The Brussels sprouts showed poor technique. The squash soup and the beef was bland and not sweet enough. The worst crime was that there was no pumpkin pie, a necessity on Thanksgiving. What was good: The mashed potatoes were more cream and butter than potato and they were decadently delicious. The turkey was cooked perfectly. The gravy was a savory delight. Last year, they gave me a to go box for my leftovers, but this year they wouldn't let me have one.
