Here's the thing: I don't eat steak, pork, or most of the meats they specialize in, and I'm not a big fan of buffet or all‑you‑can‑eat restaurants in general. We came here because a coworker invited us, and she was being really kind, so I didn't think to check the price beforehand. I ended up only eating the salad, and with dessert my total came to about $66. I love several other Churrasacarias in São Paulo, but this one is a real standout. We had a group dinner with friends and coworkers, and we were led to a large table, and the staff fawned all over us. They were very accommodating and friendly. The food and wine were all top-notch, and they brought whatever cut of meat you asked for, instead of waiting for the "good stuff" like the Picanha. The salad bar was great as well, although I was a bit disappointed that they didn't have any Feijoada, which is usually a staple at any Churrascaria in Brazil. I have been to all of the top churrascarias in São Paulo and this is the best by far. There's others that are good but this one is great. Barbacoa has the best variety of steaks, salads, as well the best service. They don't take reservations and open at 7pm. As you arrive they take note of how many are in your party and assign you a number. At 7 pm they start calling out numbers and seat many people quickly as the restaurant is large and has many tables. Right at this time there is a line for the salad bar but it dissipates quickly. I enjoyed by dinner so much that I was busy eating and forgot to take pictures! My first visit to Sao Paulo was made great by having an incredible meal here. This place is a veritable temple primarily for second-hand vegetarians (those that consume vegetables by devouring the animals that ate them first haha). This house of barbecued/grilled meat is impressive but requires some strategy if you want to get your proper money's worth. My advice is to not get sidetracked by the cozy little bar where they have some great adult beverages. I love a stiff drink as much as the next person but when faced with a mountain of meat once you get to your table, I would shun the empty calories and space of mere liquids. Also, this place really doesn't get busy until after 8pm. The advantage of going early is that you will have much of the place to yourself so there is very attentive service and no jockeying for position at the salad bar or trying to flag down the server with your favorite cut of meat who is stuck in a rut serving all the tables on the other side of the dining room. On the other hand, I noticed that a couple of great things came off the grill as we were lifting our fat as*es out of our chairs getting ready to leave. This choice to leave turned out to be a premature ejection from our table as the juiciest cut of brisket that had not been available yet that evening passed right by me on my way out the door. Sunk cost and opportunity lost! I think my perfect time to start dinner would be around 7:30pm to take advantage of lower crowds and best variety on offer! Finally, resist the temptation of the beautiful salad bar with all of your willpower. It is seriously like a black hole with strong gravitational pull. It is eye-catching and there are some really unique, interesting and delicious items on offer. But, like the flame to the moth, there is a price to pay for your curiosity. Almost everything there has a lower price point than the strolling barbacoa you have yet to experience. So enter the salad bar zone with caution, pace yourself and sample lightly if you must because the best is yet to come and you will feel like a moron if you are too full of chlorophyll while the rest of your table is dying from the meat sweats. The table service is like a self-generated magic show controlled by a 2-sided disc at your setting. Display the red side and absolutely nothing will happen. The servers will avoid you like the Plague. However, turn it over and display green and they will be on you like flies on a garbage pile as they carry around various types of grilled animal proteins and sides. Once full go to defcon red and wallow in your job well done. I had no room for anything else but others at my table swore by the papaya cream and cassis dessert that looked suspiciously like a Midwest church lady jello whipped topping. This delicious, over the top spot is a classic Brazilian BBQ spot if you are looking for that experience and price is not a concern. Very disorganized. I went there at 8pm on a Thursday night in early December. The place was packed and they don't do a good job managing demand and wait time. You put your name down and the host tells you about 90 minutes wait. When you check 60 minutes later, only 1 party has been seated during that time land she doesn't know how much longer it will take for your table to be ready. I've been to Barbacoa twice now and I must be honest: the first time I was here my experience exceeded expectations, however, my second visit was a MAJOR let-down, hence I'm giving this place 3 stars. Nothing is more frustrating than when you go to a fancy restaurant expecting to have your every whim catered to because you're paying for that type of experience and then multiple things go wrong and you don't get what you want. First of all, they didn't have beans at dinner, only at lunch... super frustrating. I don't understand how they can have beans for lunch but not dinner. Secondly, it took almost thirty minutes for me to get some basic white rice to accompany my meal. By the time they brought the rice over, I was already almost full (I had to eat meat and pão de queijo by itself). I asked for some lemonade with sugar and it was almost like I hadn't asked for sugar at all because they didn't add any to the juice nor did they provide me with a spoon so that I could mix some in myself. Lastly, their most egregious mistake was giving me a cocada that was cold. The dessert description says its ao forno (from the oven) and to my understanding that means that I should have received a dessert that was at the very least lukewarm. Because of all of these missteps, I am taking off two stars. A restaurant with this price tag should have wayyy better service. read more

Over and the above the fact that the above is pretty good ad copy (even after running through Google Translate), the concept sounding intriguing! Never having encountered Barbacoa before, I came here with a friend for dinner. The atmosphere is upscale and inviting; the venue is finely furnished, and the service is impeccable. The meat is served rodizio style; patrons pay a fixed price (preço fixo) and the servers bring samples of food to each patron several times throughout the meal, until the patrons signal that they've had enough. The meat here is very good, especially the picanha. There are also various cuts of chicken, lamb, sausage, chicken hearts, and at least four or five different cuts of beef. There's a very elaborate salad bar as well. The servers were attentive and helpful. Most of them had more English than I have Portuguese, but unfortunately that isn't saying very much ;-) About the only complaint I have is the lack of draft beer; my friend was craving it in a big way, but he had to go without. We made due with a Malbec from their wine list; while they were out of the one that was "featured", we chose another Mendoza Malbec instead, and it paired with our Carnivore's feast quite nicely. Tip: Barbacoa has a number of dessert options, but these aren't included in the rodzio pricing. Bottom line: While this isn't an inexpensive place to have dinner, if you love good meat and have an appetite that's difficult to slake, I recommend Barbacoa highly. read more

My new favorite in the Rio area. I've been to Fogo de Chao, the usual (but good) spot for tourists, plus some other places - I like this one best so far. Great, not too intrusive service, a buffet with everything you can wish for and good meats carried to your table. As a side note, we looked at the wine menu and I found a Nederburg Winemasters Reserve Pinotage. An excellent wine that fits the meats very well and you will be blown away by the price. The entire table took pictures of the label because they were impressed by the wine. Good doesn't need to be expensive... I'll be back next time I'm in town. read more

I have been to quite a few Brazilian steakhouses in my time (mostly in the US). Churrascaria Plataforma (NY), Fogo de Chao (NY & ATL), Porcao (Rio) and each one left me disappointed. Under-seasoned meat, limp salad options and sushi usually was well past its prime. Barbacoa was the best of the bunch by a long shot. We got there around 2pm on Saturday and the restaurant was packed and we had to wait about 45 minutes for a table. After the long wait (totally worth it) we were seated and the feast began. I started with the salad buffet and tried a few different types of salad, a few pieces of smoked and salmon sashimi, some sort of caviar and a variety of cheeses. All of these were extremely fresh and tasted of high quality. I especially liked the variety of chili oils they had up there which I thought was a great accompaniment to some of the drier cuts of meat. Now on to what we all came here for: the Meat. The Rib eye here was borderline amazing. Succulent, fatty and well seasoned, it's the stuff dreams are made of. I would come back here and just eat rib-eye if that was an option. I probably had about 3 servings and the cuts were very generous. I also enjoyed the flank steak and some of the rib offerings. I would say they serve too much meat here than the latter, because a lot of the time when I just wanted a small piece to try the server would cut off a giant chunk of meat. Not exactly a problem for most people, just my point of view. Overall, Barbacoa was a great experience and if you are visiting São Paulo a definite must try. read more

I've been to all the usual suspects (Plataforma, Fogo de Chão and Porcão) and Barbacoa beats them all with no margin for discussion. I have been here are two occasions over the last year and I have thoroughly enjoyed the food, service and experience on both occasions. The meal is around R$ 100 a per person and is all you can eat. There is a huge salad/cold foods bars with everything from greens, to smoked meats, sushi and fruits. In addition to this, you have the waiters coming around with various cuts of meat.
