After having a very mishap purchase on Christmas Eve that did not go through and was canceled without my consent online, the manager could do nothing for me, but tell me to go to corporate which did nothing and left me back where I started an item unpurchased after all, I went through to purchase it in the store on Christmas Eve. I am going to go out of my way not to come back here unless it is something small and quick where I don't need help. It's unfortunate because I've come here for years since it's very close to my house and I have bought a lot of my gardening tools, my drill, my lawnmower and various items here to support the store, but they are not supportive of me. So I have chosen to go to Ace South where people are kind and understanding they don't laugh at you for your shortcomings on knowledge about Tools, manuals, or items. I didn't grow up learning to do handyman work. I've had to train myself how to do things. And it would be nice if I went to a store where people respected my learning process. However, I don't get that here. With the exception of one person who is very nice. I can't say too much about the other people. It seems they are very close minded and not open to trying to help someone. I've lived in the community over six years. I think I've earned my right to get that now.

And of course I find a lot of things I don't need, too! One of my favorite t-shirts came from here; it's got their store logo, which is an adorable little steampunk anglerfish. I'm so obsessed that I got a sticker with the same logo on it this trip (also, they have a lot of awesome stickers). On top of that, the staff are super friendly and welcoming! There's one delightful woman who has been there the last couple times, and she's a joy to chat with. I wish I had asked her name. I work retail myself, and she exudes the same warmth I try to give to all of my customers, too. It's not always an easy job, but you can tell when someone genuinely wants to make customers feel at home in their space and takes pride in their job. Also, I'm really obsessed with coming back and getting an anglerfish sweatshirt now.

A man in the paint department said he's not good at color. I asked if there was blue tint in the sample he was making and he said he didn't know and he didn't how to look it up. He said the color was pink and asked why I thought it had blue. I told him it looks purple. Nothing like the pink I asked him to make. Today I waited nearly 15 minutes in the paint department for someone to arrive. 10 of those minutes the phone was ringing non-stop across the way in customer service. I was calling to see if I could get help. I watched customer service standing around talking to one another, not answering the phone. So, I walked over and asked if there was someone who could help in the paint dept. They said someone would eventually come. I asked if he heard the phone ringing, He told me they don't even hear it anymore. I pointed at my phone and said the timer shows I've been calling for over 10 minutes trying to get help and there are 4 of you chatting here. I left it ringing a few more minutes until someone helped me in paint. I was calm and polite and so disappointed by what Home Depot is these days. I don't mind waiting, as needed, but no one is helpful. No one seems to care. I bought tile, flooring, paint, and so forth. I started driving to Lowes in Albany so I could get better help. I don't want to commute for this. My next project is a deck. I won't be working with Home Depot.

She kept repeating that she could only cut feet off, which I repeatedly told her that I understood, and after unreasonable attitude from this employee, I asked where the handsaws would be in the store to purchase. Before informing, she repeated that she thought that hand sawing my rather thin boards was a BAD idea and would take a very long time--to which I replied that I had time. She kept repeating her opinion again and again before leading to an in-store handsaw station and recommending that I actually just buy completely different boards so that they didn't need to be cut. I told her that I already had the boards in hand which I DID WANT and she told me again that she could only cut off feet. I was tired of this interaction and just had her cut off a 1-foot section from two boards, and 2 feet from another. Only one of the 1-footers was actually 12 inches, the other was 30cm. I ended up purchasing my own hand saw for remaining cuts. My visit was otherwise fine, but I see no reason for this employee to give such attitude and snark to customer simply asking for boards to be cut--a service which Home Depot is supposed to provide with ease. The employee was a dark-haired woman with a ponytail... slightly older. The handsaw I purchase works great! A fantastic item to own so that I don't disrupt any more Home Depot employees by asking them to cut wood.

We decided to get some differences gear and change our approach. Problem is all my crabbing knowledge comes from the internet or random people we've met trying to crab. I'm clueless. The manager at this store took the time to give us pointers. Help us pick the right gear and didn't try to sell us a bunch of stuff we didn't need. She even helped us set it up and called in the help of an employee who knew how to tie knots... who also happily stepped in, showed me how to tie it and also gave us pointers.

Called and put on hold 28 minutes, only to be told that their hold system wasn't working (Nice!), and that the Assistant Manager was actually at lunch. (So I was waiting for nothing on a messed up line). They never called back that day or the next as they promised. We called back the following day to see if somehow service quality had changed. Sadly, it had not. They said we could bring it in. We're seniors with a compact car...We said we just wanted a refund after all of the problems with the machine and with the employees. They refused. They INSISTED upon scheduling someone to come out to look a the non operational brand new never used lawnmower. We don't want it now. We would like a refund. We don't understand why we cannot get a refund. We have the purchase order. They NEVER gave us a warrant card or manual (my partner should have made sure to get this but he forgot/didn't realize at the time of delivery). So that part is partially our fault. EDIT: Today they sent out a technician after I called them again to explain again that I did not want the lawnmower. The Assistant Manager said she would call me back. A guy called me back shortly thereafter and said he would be out in 30 minutes to pick up the lawnmower. I am grateful that this situation was resolved to our satisfaction and we appreciate the courtesy of the guy who picked up the lawnmower. He was very friendly.

The other day I made an online order on the Ace online, which was giving me a lot of trouble. I went into the North store where my order got more screwed up. No one took care of it there and they were incredibly rude making faces and gestures, as if I did not understand what was going on then after it was all screwed up and the order didn't go through the manager basically told me to call corporate, which did no good. I then called Melissa because I know her through her husband and they are just beautiful people all around. She took care of the problem completely the day after Christmas because she knew I had rushed to the North store the day before Christmas desperate to get the sale item when the store was closing at 3 PM. So here she was taking care of an issue from another store that should've been taken care of it self. Again, every time I've been there, everybody is lovely. I love talking to Debbie. She has helped me with items and taking so much time with me to teach me to be able to do things I need to do. Being a woman it's not the easiest thing in the world learning how to do your own handyman work and understand how to use tools and devices. But it should be respected and Encouraged as well as understood that we are living in a difficult time where people now have to do a lot of their own work. I will continue to shop at the South store as long as I live here. I wish I could say the same about the North but I can't. They always make me feel unwelcome and seem to laugh at my shortcomings with knowledge about items. They seem to go out of their way to say no and can't return anything so I will stick with Ace South. I'm so glad at least I have them to go to.

We are doing a lot of big projects, underground, new construction, and I can walk in with my husband's list and BAM! they have it gathered and rung up. I went in there for paint today and five minutes later all my things are being gathered while I go browse. They are often not the cheapest but I'll happily pay more for the VIP service I experience every single time! Keep it up Ace in Lebanon, you are appreciated!
