I was thrilled to discover a source that offers almost everything in Narrow. Even the dozens of shoestores in the Mall of America don't carry Narrows below $200.00. I've been ordering almost all of my shoes from this place for at least five years. One brand (Trotters) had to be returned for a Medium, otherwise everything fits as I want it, and the styles are exactly in my demographic. Buyer beware! I ordered 2 pairs of shoes, same pair in 2 different sizes, for a total of just under $400 and needed to return both. Maryland Square kept a $15.99 shipping and handling fee plus the $6.95 postal fee for the return shipping. So I paid almost $23.00 for the privilege of trying these shoes on. I understood I would have to pay the return postage fee, but in my haste of ordering I assumed the $15.99 was the sales tax that I would be refunded upon return. It never occurred to me that it would be anything else, so after a quick glance at the return policy I placed my order. I wear a very narrow shoe and was looking forward to doing more business with this company as a new customer, but it is not worth the cost when the shoes don't work out. I will not do business with a company that expects me to pay the shipping fee in both directions, plus a handling fee for the initial purchase. I purchased 2 pair of the same style in different colors. I ordered my normal size 7W. One pair fit perfectly. The other pair was marked size 7W but the shoes were at least 1/2 to 3/4 inches longer and were not a size 7W. I called customer service and arranged for an exchange. I also enclosed a detailed letter explaining that the shoes were obviously marked wrong. I took the time to put a mark on the soles that only I would see. Well Maryland Square charged me for the return and sent the same incorrectly sized shoes back to me. read more

Out of 4 different customer service agents that I spoke with all 4 had a completely different versions of return policy. I was told by one rep that they had a restocking fee (they don't) Another rep stated she didn't have access to refund status information & told me I had to call back Monday (more BS) A third rep tried telling me that the prepaid return shipping label was $10.95 when it was clearly printed as $6.95 on the return form. One more to add to the negative reviews: the customer service is awful. I have a hard time finding shoes that fit. I have to get most of them via mail order, and have bought many pairs from Maryland Square -- but never again. I paid my $7 to return my unworn shoes that didn't fit. It was, apparently, a bit past the 120 day limit for returns that is stated in the catalog, not on the return form. So they mailed them back to me and refused to refund my money, even after I talked with "customer service" and a supervisor. Supervisor wouldn't let me speak with anyone else, said I could write a letter. I told her I'd write this instead and give my shoe business to someone else. They spent $7 and customer service time, lost a customer; they wouldn't have lost ANYTHING if they'd just given me credit for the return, as the shoes could have been resold. I checked my new catalog (!) and they are still there. The return form says nothing about a time limit. The catalog does. But I didn't have a catalog at the time, just the return form! I told her that. And Zappos has free shipping and a year to do returns. I will use them rather than Maryland Square in the future! read more

Update on my review. They NEVER refunded my money! They sent me a return shipping label and told me to give it to my mail carrier which I did. Dumb move! Considering the poor, or lack of, customer service I had received up to this point I should have gone to the Post Office to pay for a tracking number. They claimed they never received the shoes. I had a horrible experience with Maryland Square today. I called them because I received an email saying they were sending an order I had already received and RETURNED. I was on hold for almost 30 minutes. When I finally got to talk to someone, she was not very bright or even pleasant. I particularly wanted to make sure 1) that they did not charge me again for something I returned because I did not want it and that for no discernible reason they were sending me again and 2) I did not want to be charged for return shipping. After I repeated these requests several times and got no reassurances or apologies for their mistakes, I was becoming annoyed and frustrated. The idiot hung up on me. I called my credit card company to block any charges from Maryland Square, and I will NEVER order anything from them again. read more

In November I ordered two pair of shoes from Maryland Square. They finally arrived. They ship by USPS, so you never know when to expect your order. The boots fit. The lace up shoes did not. I returned one pair of shoes, asked for a replacement. After two months, had not received the replacement pair. I called Maryland Square, I was told to call FedEx. Fed Ex ships the shoes to your local Post Office. They had no records. We checked with the Post Office. So once again I called Maryland Square. I was told to call back to speak with a supervisor. I called for the supervisor, she sent me a replacement pair of the first replacement shoes. They did not fit. There was no invoice or paperwork in that box. So I called with my original order number. Maryland Square carries a fine array of good brands but online shoppers beware: a pair that don't fit will cost you dearly! MS's shipping costs are predicated on the cost of the shoes rather than the ship weight. I bought a pair of sandals originally priced at $44.95, on sale for 20% off, so the sale price was $35. 96. The shipping costs for that price category brought the price back up to $44.95. Unfortunately, the sandals did not fit, so I sent them back, using MS's label. I didn't have to pay return shipping, but somewhere on that label, something I did not see but customer service assures me appears, is the information that if you choose to use their label rather than make one of your own (for which you presumably pay your own shipping), you will pay what MS calls a $6.95 INSURANCE FEE FOR USE OF THE LABEL. MS gave me a credit for $29.01 for a pair of shoes for which I paid $44.95. I paid $15.94 to try on a pair of sandals. That overrides any amount of convenience or cost saving from shopping online and certainly from shopping with Maryland Square. Even Saks lets me try on shoes for free. read more

Maryland Square Shoes: I supposedly have an order in progress, because of their great sale and like some others I have a narrow foot so have difficulty finding my size. After placing my order two days ago I received an email yesterday saying they were having a problem with my order and I should contact them. So I did last night. The person I spoke with said I should call back today because the customer service department wasn't open. So today I called the number on their email and, to my surprise, I got a recording saying the number was not in service. What? I have been buying shoes from these people for years, with good and bad experiences, mostly good. What a shock! They have an affiliate company, Auditions, and used to have a third, Massey Shoes. My mother ordered over the phone with Maryland Square and requested her order sent with 2 day shipping. The rep placed her order with 3-5 day shipping in error. When we called for status customer service rep # 1 - was rude and hung up when we requested a manager, rep # 2 - was polite and got a manager but then the manager was rude and hung up, rep # 3 - hung up when we requested a manager. I then emailed the company and received an equally rude reply. It is hard to believe in our current economy that a company would not bend over backwards to maintain their customer base, especially when they make a mistake on an order. Even harder to believe that a company would be verbally abusive to it's customers. My mother was very polite and did not deserve the horrible treatment she received. I have been buying shoes from MD Sq for years because of my narrow foot. The quality has steadily declined and I can no longer trust the sizes. The shipping charges are outrageous especially if the shoes don't fit and you have to return them. I just bought a pair, paid almost $13.00 for shipping, had to return them, for which I paid another $6.95 using their return label. I returned them on Dec. 9. They now tell me that they are not scheduled to receive them until January 9. Is someone walking them back? Then I'm told it will take 2-3 more weeks to process my refund. Totally unacceptable. I ordered a pair of shoes from Maryland Square and although I ordered them in a half size larger than normal, they were STILL TOO SMALL. I was very sorry for this because they appeared to be an attractive shoe. My original order was for $40.98 and when I returned them, I understood there would possibility be a "restocking" charge. My shock was a restocking fee of over $15.00! I have learned my lesson about ordering shoes or other items that could tend to be sized wrong. Other sites offer returns without charges, or minimal amounts. I will not order from Maryland Square again. They could have at least offered a discount on my next order. "Stacy" was belligerent and dismissive, then transferred me to "Katie" who talked down to me and yelled at me when THEY got they order WRONG not once, but TWICE!! They are taking advantage of elderly people. My mom - 82 years old - wanted a pair of shoes and they took the money but got the order wrong and I had to keep calling and calling. I asked for the corporate number or the next higher employee, this "Katie" told me that her boss was never available and that SHE was "as high as you can go!". I'm a little surprised to see all the negative reviews. I've ordered shoes from Maryland Square and have never had a problem. I wear an unusual size (12B), and my shoes have always come in as ordered. I did send one pair back because I had ordered 2 widths (sometimes a 12N fits better - depends on the brand), and there were no issues there either. It helps to buy shoes that you've already tried on and know the brand/fit, but I've been very pleased. read more

I too am disappointed in the lack of customer service. I have purchased many pairs of shoes over the years from Maryland Square and never had a problem until this year. I ordered 2 pair and one pair was too narrow, I returned and reordered, the 2nd pair also not a comfortable fit. I returned 3 weeks ago and have yet to receive a credit to my account. I am going to dispute the charge with Discover and see if they have more control over customer service. Also I had to call on the first return to get a credit, less the shipping cost. read more

I am sorry to agree with those above. I see that several businesses related to Shoe Mall have the same supposed stock. I saw a site complaint that encouraged customers to call Shoe Mall directly to see if a desired item was in stock. I did that and found out that the item "available" at Shoe Mall, Masseys, Wissota Traders and Maryland Square was not in stock and not to be reordered. When I enquired about the presence of the item online, the rep. told me there was probably a day or two delay in updating the sites. Just looked again after a week since my inquiry. I have a shoe size that is hard to find. So, while I appreciate the sizing and selection of Maryland Square shoes, their customer service rots. Every time I have called customer service, the representatives I have spoken with (over the course of several years at this point) have been rude, nasty, and unable to answer basic product questions. The last time I called - approximately two weeks ago - I spoke with a supervisor, who didn't care one way or the other. My biggest error was that I hadn't read these reviews before placing my order with Maryland Square Shoe Co. I just went through a rediculous scenario with them in which I had to contact them twice regarding the situation - each time having to speak with a supervisor. Neither time was I properly assisted. This co actually misadvertised a description of a pair of their shoes in their catalogue. So, when I received the shoes and discovered the error - I called them. After a struggle to make my demand they forwarded me a free shipping label. I promptly returned the shoes waiting for my credit to discover they still charged me the original shipping and handling. Again, I had to speak to a supervisor because the customer service rep simply kept repeating her incorrect explanation. They refused to refund me the original shipping fee in spite of their MIS-ADVERTISING their product and having admitted to their error. Honestly, it's not a matter of the lousy $7 fee, but the principle of the whole situation that they admitted their error but refused to accommodate me with a reversal of a charge. Funny how all the reviews are basically the same! Their customer service SUCKS! But they don't care! I wonder how many people just give up ! I ordered four pair of shoes and when they arrived not only didn't they fit, but three of the sandals were made so they would rub between your toes and give you a blister. The "Supervisor" said I should have noticed they were made that way when I ordered them. This leads me to believe they had plenty of complaints about those shoes. When I called to tell them I was sending the order back, they told me that I should just put the label they included on my invoice and drop it at the Post Office. When I looked at the label, it didn't seem to have any postage on it. Sure enough when I got to the post office they wouldn't take it. I called Massey's and the customer service rep said it was a Saturday, so call on Monday and they will e-mail me the label. I got a shoe that didn't and return them with their pre-paid label. When I called the first time, I has nice representative who told me it will arrive in a week with their tracking number. Then when the week came and and couples of days later, I still did't get any email or contact from them saying they received my return item. I called again this time not so lucky has as very rude and usefulness representative who said return item not checked in so they haven't received it yet. I only wish this was my first problem with Maryland Square. I'm convinced that their sales people work on commission and will do anything to complete a sale even if it;s not the right order. Reading some of the other post and thinking about my experiences confirm my thoughts. This last incident (out of 3) I ordered a pair of shoes that were on sale. knowing their propensity for errors, I explicitly stated that I wanted my shoe in BLACK, 12 WW! Obviously I have big feet and cannot and will not squeeze into any other size. Well, I got my statement saying my shoes were sent: the shoes were black, the width was WW and the size was 8! Eight! not 12 but 8. How does one make that mistake, They make that mistake by being concerned only with the sale not the customer is how they function, I called and was advised to send the shoes back and I will get a full refund without and shipping charges. She returned them and lost 20 bucks to "shipping costs" all because this company simply lied about the size and would not make it right. 20 bucks lost with the hassles and dissapointment and of getting a faulty product, the company said was Narrow but was not. Then having to send it back. Then add insult to injury, customer service did not return calls. When I finally reached them regarding the 53 dollar refund check on the 73 dollar shoes, the customer service woman insulted me, lied and actually HUNG UP ON ME. I called again and got a man who was just as snarky who said - oh yeah this happens ALL THE TIME. There is fine print in yhe middle of the catalog on shipping. .. but it does not say the ridiculously high cost of shipping; or that a tiny size 6 supposedly narrow strappy sandle costs 20 bucks to ship. If I could rate this business a zero I would. I have never in my life had a more upsetting customer service experience. I was simply requesting documentation of 4 credits from Maryland Square I saw on my bank statement. I needed some form of a return receipt or document to turn into my accounting department since my purchase with Maryland Square was business related. Not only did the supervisor deny my request but she refused to transfer me to another costumer service supervisor and claimed she was the only supervisor on the floor that day. This was a flat out lie. When I called back an hour later, I was told there were 4 costumer service supervisors working that day. She also told me that if I didn't hang up she would stay on the phone with me all day. I stayed calm throughout the call and was only trying to make her understand the severity of my needs. I can loose my corporate card and job if I can't provide the company I work for documentation of the 4 credits from them on that were on my bank statement. She made no effort to accommodate my needs or transfer me to someone that could and had the audacity to claim the company I work for does not trust me. I have ordered from this company in the past with no problems. Ever. THEN, I tried to order from them the first of October only for the website NOT to take the order. I called the company on the phone; they took the order NO PROBLEMS.. I'm WAITING and WAITING for the shoes to come. I keep checking my bank and my funds are hanging in limbo. I check Maryland Square's website and notice the shoes have not shipped. It's been TEN DAYS NOW. I look a little further on the order, only to see that the order has been CANCELLED! WHY? I didn't cancel it. I call the company, they tell me that they cancelled because they couldn't get me on the phone to verify my address?! WHAT?! I've been ordering from them all this time and NEVER had to have my address verified. And because my home phone is not my primary phone, I had no idea that there was a message that they called. They will NOT have my cell number! Well, after calling the company and getting the explanation, ok I understand the fraud thing but RELEASE MY FUNDS! I don't want the shoes anymore! The rep says, well it shouldn't be but 2 days to refund. Alright, It's THREE DAYS today, I call again only to be told that they don't have my money, call VISA. Well I'm pretty warm now. I call my bank only to be told that MARYLAND SQUARE HAS TO RELEASE the hold. I call back, ask for a supervisor, and I'm still told that someone who does internal audits has to be the one to release my money. If I'm not refunded by tomorrow I WILL contact an attorney.
