If you want historic Annapolis vibes, this is it. Prime location. Walk everywhere. Classic architecture. Now... arrival. In 39° Atlantic rain with no designated unloading zone, we executed what felt like a small urban logistics operation: four suitcases across Main Street while one of us checked in and the other relocated the vehicle to Hillman Garage. Adventurous? Yes. Convenient? Not exactly. Once inside, though -- payoff. Room 1310 is spacious but maze like. High ceilings, historic presence, dignitary energy. We approved. Street noise is part of the package. Drivers in Annapolis are not shy with their horns. Not constant chaos, but noticeable. Bed: adequate. Shower pressure: mid. Hot water: solid. Towels: softer than expected -- 4 on my personal ZERO to BRILLO pad scale. Generous, but not Costco-level luxury. Historic charm delivered. Arrival logistics could use refinement. 3/5 read more

First off, I am reading the reviews to see if anyone else had an experience like me but all reviews are several years old. Not sure why! I stayed here as part of a business meeting. My company booked it so I had no choice. Initial impression is a cool historic place. Yes, you check in at the other location and walk a few blocks, but that's part of the historic charm. You walk in and it's all cool antique furniture. The musky smell adds to the historic charm. I noticed the closed off front desk area and thought "that's odd". I went to my room (1402) and noticed first off that the door was warped. I had to use my body to bump it open once the key was accepted. Once inside it was small but nice. The ac unit was a little loud but expected in such an old place. The closet was huge, but something told me to keep the door closed (it gave a spooky feeling). One of the activities that my company booked was a haunted tour that we did the second evening there. First red flag is that it starts in front of the Maryland inn. On the tour they explain why the front desk is t staffed...the hotel is haunted and they can't get anyone to work there at night. I rolled my eyes, yeah right. Then they told a story about a bride who died there in the 1700s who haunts the hotel. She stayed in room 1405 (the same room my boss was staying in). Turns out that my boss heard the famous sounds of her pacing in the room, her high heels clicking on the wooden floors (the floors are now carpeted). On the 3rd night I was texting my boss around 1am because I started hearing noises. He heard them too. The noises got louder and louder until it was the sound of someone pounding on my door. That got harder and harder u til I could see the bottom of the door come in about 3 inches every time it got hit.when it stopped I looked outside the door and saw a giant man (about 6'6", 300+ lbs). I asked if he heard that noise, he just looked at me and the started coming at me. I yelled "dude, wrong room" and slammed the door. A mi Ute later my boss was at my door and said he heard this guy fall down the stairs. My boss and I the. Grabbed out luggage (uber was taking us to the airport at 4am anyway) and walked to the other building to report the incident. In the end, I got a call from the hotel manager saying that the guy (a drunk guest apparently) wanted to pay for my last night in the room. I have more questions than answers, but I can say that I'll never be returning. Look up the ghost stories, apparently they are well documented and are consistent with what I experienced (I'm not including all details here). read more

This Inn in it's days was certainly a marvelous place. Its location is right in the heart of downtown Annapolis, Maryland. Unfortunately the feel is historically bad with no services on site. Their on site restaurant is closed, and the beautiful bar cannot offer ice with drinks since there is no restaurant license ( some stupid state law). The morning coffee offering in the lobby, feels like a remote gas station. And to check-in you need to go to another Inn location around the corner. A good investment of hospitality is needed. read more

A great historical hotel. We stayed this past weekend for a wedding and loved it. It is located right in the city within walking distance to lots of restaurants and shops. The bathroom was a little small, but not too bad. Definitely recommend if you are looking for a hotel with a bit of history. read more

Vintage! My Husband and I decided to spend our 18 Year Marriage Anniversary in Annapolis for the weekend. The pictures online are adorable and quaint and I was looking forward to our stay here. This place has a total of 3 buildings With hotel rooms. You have to go to one central location to get your room assignment and keys. We were assigned to the Maryland Inn. I was a little skeptical because people complained on Yelp a little but most of the complaints were regarding them not having staff there and I was ok with that. I didn't need anything anyway, I never do. It was about .3 mile walk from where Check In was so we just walked over with our luggage. It appears the Maryland Inn is the oldest property and the Calvert Governor House is the newest. A lot of charm and vintage touches to the property. I personally wasn't a great fan of it but my husband absolutely loved it and is still talking about it now. The hallways floors squeak, paint projects were bumpy, dark hallways, loud & slow elevator. The rooms are extremely small, great décor. It really provides an intimate setting. A little too intimate for my taste. Again, my husband absolutely loved everything about this room. They do not have a central air and heating system at this hotel so we had an air conditioner/ heating unit and it worked perfectly fine. Only downfall was, it was very very noisy. It clicked on and off at least once every 5 minutes for 5 minutes and then it will click off. I never got used to that annoying noise. The room itself was really clean, the bathrooms were clean. Large closet area. The room comes with a refrigerator and coffee maker. This place was located in a great location, we could walk out the door & make a right you're right at the waterfront. That was pretty awesome! The people in this town are up all night and there are plenty of places to go and hang out or just chill. The reason this place gets 3 Stars and not 4 is because of the super noisy cleaning lady who comes around 9am clickady clacking and banging. I was up and still annoyed. So annoyed I left out for breakfast, came back an hour later and her cart remained in the hallway... unintended. I would never stay at this particular Inn with this brand, but I would stay at another one of their locations if granted the opportunity. read more

Do you appreciate American history? Do you want to STAY IN a piece of American history?? If yes then the Maryland Inn for you! Beautiful, old building complete with an old colonial ballroom and antique wooden furniture. The cleaning team appears to be working around the clock. The bathrooms are newly updated and have cool lights and tubs. Right in the middle of Annapolis. Complimentary hot coffee in the mornings as well. Only miss -- the windows above the doors shouldn't have been painted over. They are a cool feature and could help bring light into the hallways. read more

I had to return to Annapolis for a funeral of a classmate from the US Naval Academy. This location allowed me to reserve a room on relatively short notice and I couldn't have been served better. The check in location isn't in this hotel but over on State Circle. They couldn't have been more gracious and actually upgraded my room to a double bed room. The space was apportioned beautifully and the bedding was comfortable. The bathroom was appropriate to the space and the location of the hotel right off Church Circle was perfect for my visit. If I had one complaint was that their valet car service was unavailable due to another party reserving all the spaces within the valet parking garage so my car parking was required on the city system which is "somewhat" lacking at the moment. If I come back to Annapolis I will definitely be looking to stay here again as this is a wonderful hotel with a great atmosphere. Truly a great find and prices were excellent for a non-home game football weekend here. read more

This place was absolutely horrible! No one working at the front desk ever and the first night we kept hearing something that we thought was a cat or something outside of window. We found out the next afternoon what it was.... MICE!! We had at least 2-3 running in our room and when we called front desk - a maintenance man came and literally picked up all our stuff and moved us across the hall!! It was a mess!! We had not planned on moving and moved in such a hurry we thought we had left half our stuff in the other room! We got our bags together and LEFT the hotel and went somewhere else!!!! The parking situation was not great either!! People parked all over the road in front of hotel and could barely squeeze by-- pretty sure elevator had a mouse on top of elevator ceiling when we were leaving! I've never stayed in a place infested with mice and this place was just disgusting!! I've traveled all over the world and never had an experience like this!!! This is my first time to ever leave a Yelp review but after this horrible experience-- felt I needed to in order to warn others!! Do NOT stay here!!!! HORRIBLE!!! read more

My wife and I had an overnight getaway at the Maryland Inn. The hotel is a vintage building and very charming. If you are looking for a new modern building this is not the place. But if you are looking for a charming hotel, courteous staff, located right in the middle of everything and comfortable accommodations, this is the place for you. Valet service was fast and efficient. It's a nice step back in time and I'd recommend this place read more

This is not The Stanley: THE ONE TIME I SHOULD HAVE READ THE REVIEWS!!! Like another reviewer said, "it's close to everything is it's only redeeming quality". Our family stayed at The Maryland Inn this past weekend. I booked the room online through their website. One room, four adults. The suite is their largest room from their website and has a pull out sleeper sofa ((listed right on their website still)). I assume that the "sleeper sofa" was to be used to sleep on. When we get to the room that night there are no linens for this sleeper sofa. I call the front desk and am told we should not have four people in that particular room and no linens are provided. "We don't do that"...she exclaims. I am confused by this, hotels don't provide sheets or pillows?? "No, we don't do that". They try to move us to an even smaller room. I'm sorry, but this was just not acceptable to me. I paid for a larger room and was told there would be no credit for moving to a smaller room. After fighting with the valet, he finally gets me some sheets. The manager or whoever runs the place is just plain rude. The valet had to solve the problem for them. Noisy place, rude staff, crappy customer service. Takes away from the charm. Save yourself the trouble and stay elsewhere. They are now trying to charge me more money after I had a guaranteed rate; beware of the bait and switch rates. read more

The service was poor. We arrived at check in time and the gentleman handed my the key and said I would be in the Maryland Inn. I had no idea where it was located. He said a couple blocks away. Still no idea where to go. I asked if he know the restaurant we were having dinner at that night and at first he had no idea and then he looked at a paper by the desk and said yes but he didn't know how to get there. It was two blocks from the hotel. We went to the valet to get some directions and he said he didn't have any spaces for us and we needed to walk to the hotel because he didn't think they had any spaces to unload our luggage at the Maryland Inn. So without any directions and four bags of luggage my husband got on his phone and we found the hotel up hill on cobblestone sidewalks. We got our room they had a dehumidifier in the room not running and the room smelled musty. I emptied the dehumidifier and kept up on it all weekend and never saw any staff. I would say it was the worst customer service I have ever had. We made it a great weekend anyway and stayed away from the hotel except to sleep. read more

If you need something from the front desk you're on your own. The hotel is in a great location, convenient to all the shopping, pubs and harbor activities. However, what it is NOT convenient to is the staff. Me and my guest started playing a game. When the front desk said, "we'll have it sent to you right away," we started taking bets on how long "right away" would mean. Usually it was between 2 hours to Never. Things they forgot to give us included: a hairdryer, toilet paper and a bill when we checked out. Also - THIS HOTEL IS NOISY. Previous Yelpers have said this, but when I complained about it, the front desk said they never had this complaint before. They have had it before, and they're getting it again now. If you stay at this location, you are right on the main street so the hotel is helpess to intervene when noisy neighbors blast Rock 'n' Roll music through the night. (Guy that lives above Subway - I'm looking at you!). The walls are also thin so you will hear your upstairs neighbors footsteps and movement throughout the night. But what the hotel lacks in comfort, it makes up for in location and historic decor. The decor is beautiful. You will love walking up the decadent winding staircases. So if colonial ambiance and being in walking distance to pretty much everything in Annapolis is important to you, than this is a good hotel for you. read more

The only redeeming quality about this place is the location. In addition to losing our reservation, the housekeeping staff cannot read the basic fundamentals of the DO NOT DISTURB sign on the door handle. I ran a fucking half marathon at 6am and these fucktards came banging on the door like the goddamn LAPD looking for Rodney King at noon with the sign clearly on there to kick rocks. I stuck my head out to ensure said sign was still present and yup, it was. To avoid any disconnects, I called the front desk to ask them to please refrain from housekeeping coming back, and in retaliation, the housekeeping staff kept slamming the doors to the rooms they were cleaning. No recovery from the half marathon. Thanks. Because the hotels are not staffed except at one location, if there is an emergency, you're fucked. For example: tonight, a large group (self included) was locked OUTSIDE. We called the main hotel and again 10 mins later. Still no sign of letting us in. After the 15 minute mark we got smart and went through the basement. What if the basement was also locked? How long would we wait standing there?! The hallways smell like someone just took a dump. That great smell that lingers in the bathroom after you depart after a major shit. It's awful. When we checked in, the front desk staff member and the valet were talking about some shit on Facebook rather than finding my lost reservation. I had wait for them to finish their "ooohhhh girl is it facebook official yet?" conversation before I got any assistance Again, great location but at what cost!!? Our TV kept turning on and off on its own. Random times in the night. Freaky shit. Loud ass AC window unit. Hot, muggy hallways. Nope-- shitty. Pass!! Don't do it! Like most everything else on Main street, it's a trap! read more

Nope. No dice. The room we stayed in was fine but that was about it. Everyone who worked there was completely inefficient. This place is comprised of three historic houses in Annapolis, which is cool; however, what is not cool is that these places are dispersed blocks apart and the check-in area is in ONE of the hotels. Not only is check-in only located in one of the buildings - we didn't have a hotel employee in the Maryland Inn, which is where we stayed. At the very least it was annoying that there wasn't anyone in the hotel that could tell us where we should go to brunch but for their sake I hope there's never any kind of break-in or fire bc there isn't a soul in the building who works there! My friend and I were staying there for one night while we attended a wedding at the Annapolis Westin. We checked in in between the ceremony and the reception, and it was a mess. No one knew what they were doing. When we asked to have them call a cab for us we had to wait outside for it - rather than have someone tell us when the cab got there. This was around 3:30 and we basically waited outside for 20 minutes while we sweat through our dresses. Miserable. Then the next day I asked if we could extend our check out by an hour. Now keep in mind that the house we were in was being rennovated..when you walked outside the whole thing was covered in rafters - I have no idea what the building even looks like. Alas, I digress - when I asked for an extra hour I was told that anything past 30 minutes would cost us half a day! Ridiculous. read more

Two friends of ours had their wedding reception here. It was a small wedding, and this place fit the bill perfectly for them. Quaint, nicely decorated and kept up to keep the historical feel, and very friendly staff (the bartender - Julie - not sure if she works there regularly, but she was a gem! Remembered exactly what I wanted each time I went back up to the bar...which was often!) One thing I like about the Inn was the historical documents and items on display (letters of correspondence, portraits, etc), all very nicely preserved. I can't speak to the accommodations as we didn't spend the night here, but as far as an event venue goes, the Maryland Inn seemed like a perfect spot for a more intimate affair. read more

I absolutely LOVED this place! Since I typically stay in more modern/typical hotels, this was a wonderful change. Check-in IS at one of the 3 locations, but an attendant followed to the hotel and valeted the car - no hassle at all. The car is then brought back whenever you need it. The staff is super friendly. The room was quaint, all the necessary amenities. The bathroom was nice and very clean. The BEST thing about this hotel is the location! All of the fun shops and restaurants are on the same block. The only con was the cable was not working properly, but I didn't spend much time in the room....there is too much to do right in the area! I would ABSOLUTELY recommend this place to friends...and would only stay here if I return to Annapolis! read more

This place sucks!!!!! If you are staying outside of the main house you are screwed! There is no staff in two other locations so you are on your own.My stay was for 2 nights and on the first night after a day of meetings I couldn't get into my door. The keys weren't working. I have halved at the complaints and they are pretty consistent about the magnetic key not working. It would be very awesome if management read these reviews and did something about it! Completely unacceptable! The main lobby bathrooms on the second floor stink like an old pee. In addition, I've not gotten new waters and coffees refills the next morning. read more

So while I've heard a lot of buzz about how this place has "slipped" in it's old age, it is still one of the most amazing places to stay in the US. Bar none - the location, the food, and the drummers lot (if you've been you know what I am talking about), they are all great. I highly recommend the food, especially during the winter. The staff is amazing and the hotel is just... well its hard to describe but the word beautiful comes to mind. Truly unique - and be sure to check out the best starbucks in maryland located in their basement. It's not your run of the mill coffee joint. read more

My boyfriend and I chose this hotel during our visit to Annapolis for a wedding. The wedding party had blocked a more commercial location for the event but we chose the inn for a more authentic and personal experience in the historic town of Annapolis. We live in the DC and wanted experience more of a homey and local venue rather than city life. When we arrived we learned that the check in desk and our location were not located in the same place. The valet drove our car to our location and then parked our car in their garage. The room location was great on main street and was clean and met our needs. We had no issues till our last night. Upon entering our room around midnight our key opened the front door but not the room. After not finding a curtsey phone on our floor we headed back down stairs and used the phone in the lobby. I spent over 10 minutes listening to rings with no pick up. My boyfriend then headed to the bar downstairs and asked them to call and conveniently they picked up the phone. We then had to wait another 15 minutes until security brought us a new card. This was all pretty understandable but inconvenient. The nesk day we asked for a 9:10 arrival for our car for departure. My boyfriend had to coach soccer about 1 hr away. Running a few minutes late at 9:12 we get a call from Kevin saying the Valet is waiting. My boyfriend quickly apologized and said we are heading down stairs. We got there at 9:15 and the car was there but locked and no individual. We waiting a minute thinking some one would appear but no one did. So I began to call with my cell phone. Again with a 10 minute wait on the line there was no pick up. Around 9:25 I headed back to the bar and called there which I got a pick up. I told Kevin we are waiting for our valet and he said "well you were late, my man was waiting" and I said we understand and we are sorry but we are now standing for our keys for 10 minutes with no communication. Again with no apologizes he clearly made it sound like it was our fault. I ask him to just solve the issue and he finally said he would call the valet. At this point we wait for another 5 minutes and no updates. This time my boyfriend calls and asks Kevin what the update is an again he just goes back into telling him that "we were late so the valet went on and his "wife" me sounded very frustrated and upset." At this point astonished by the lack of customer care and respect my boyfriend just asked this to be solved. Around 9:35 we receive our keys with a valet who had no urgency. For someone who works in hospitality for 10 years I was stunned by the lack of customer care or awareness. We agree were 5 minutes late but the lack of follow up or concern about our next steps was unacceptable. It seems that I need to put my Marriott card back to use in Annapolis and avoid this historic location. read more

Stayed in the Maryland inn King room. Love the room and the view was awesome! Lots of space and Very clean and well kept. Staff was very attentive and we were taken care of promptly despite the main check in and service being at the governors house down the road. We will definitely be back again! read more

The best part about staying at the Maryland Inn is its proximity to....well, everything. Right on Main Street, it is minutes away from bars, restaurants, shops, and the waterfront. We didn't have to use our car once during the weekend. The staff was friendly and welcoming checking us in, and the valet dropped us at the Maryland Inn (a couple minutes drive from the other part of the Inn where you check in). We stayed in a king room and it had a lot of character and was plenty comfortable. I give it four stars because the bathroom was a bit small/basic and the shower's water pressure wasn't fantastic but certainly not bad. Would definitely stay here again- mainly for the walkability! read more

My expectations of the Maryland Inn were modest (in light of the reasonable price) but even my modest expectations were disappointed. Our room was small and the furnishing were old, but it looked serviceable when we arrived. The room had an old window air conditioning unit that screeched on and off every two minutes all night long. The ancient queen bed had a gully in the middle of it and my husband and I keep rolling into the gully. I couldn't sleep in the tiny gully with husband so I tried to sleep on the floor but I soon noticed that i was being bitten by bugs in the carpet. The next morning I waited more than 30 minutes for the valet service for which I paid $24. This was the least pleasant hotel stay I've ever had. read more

My husband and I came here for a one-night stay as a romantic get-away. We loved the price ($80-ish with the AAA discount) and the location was perfect. right on main street near fun shops. We stayed the the Maryland Inn for a nice weekend away in Annapolis. This is quite a charming older place, with lots of history and stories. We enjoyed the room, found the service to be outstanding from check in to check out two days later, and since we were on the 4th floor at the end with two windows, we had great views. Location can't be beat--right on Main Street across from the church circle and a block from the capitol building. Down the street and you're at the harbor in a few minutes. Parking nearby even takes credit cards in the meters--but I digress. The room was a queen size, 4 poster queen bed. Yes, the BR was tight for two people, but here again we had a third window facing down toward the water so no real complaint. Yes, there is a window unit for AC and heat, kinda loud, but worked fine and really didn't disturb us. The only reason I'm not saying 5 stars is because a guy knocked on our door the first morning--inspite of the do not disturb sign--asking us if we were the couple moving to another floor, as he was sent to help. Seems they would have sent him to the right room, but he was nice and apologetic, and all was really okay. We also toured the Governor Calvert which is part of the Historic Inns and larger. Seemed like a nice place on the ground floor. Anyway, we used valet parking and that was fine, they were fast and efficient, and our valet Steven was a super nice guy who told us about a breakfast place down the street called Chick and Ruth's Delly (sic). We liked it so much we ate there two mornings in a row. It was also super crowded and cheap, famous for crab omelettes. I had pancakes, very large, with blueberries. Yum. It gets crowded and lines form. Worth it. Thanks Steven the Valet! Anyway, Maryland Inn has a Starbucks in the basement, a pub, and a restaurant. Tons of charm and grace. Our room was clean and even immaculate. The cleaning person was very good, but we never saw her or him, or heard them. The stay was perfect for us. We'd stay here again without hesitation. By the way, i recommend the food/restauantt tour thru the visitors center on West Street. There's a link to it on the Historic Inns website. We did it and really enjoyed it. Oh, one last note--there is supposed to be a ghost on the 4th floor. I don't believe in them and never saw her, but the story goes that back in the 1800's she was to have her wedding there. and was on the 4th floor in her room preparing when she looked out at the circle and saw her finance run over by a horse and wagon team. She supposedly jumped to her death too. Believe or not. Anyway, now her ghost supposedly roams the 4th floor. Youngish, red head, nicely dressed in period wear, so the story goes. Maryland Inn--loved it. read more

The best thing about the Maryland Inn is the location - but it is a busy (noisy) area. Our first clue should have been "historic" - which translates to old, tired and creaky. Fourth floor has essentially no windows as the AC/hearing unit takes up most of the window. Small bathroom, tiny room and no amenities like coffee maker, fridge etc. We will not go back. read more

Well, you get what you pay for. The location was great. Right in the middle of everything. You have to use the valet service for $24.00 per day. Otherwise have fun looking for parking!!! The building was charming. Our room.....was tiny. The bed no so comfy. The air conditioning/heating unit in the window was awful. When it was on it was too hot and DRY....and off it was freezing. It was a little creepy that there is no staff at this location. Except during the day there is cleaning staff etc... but at night? Not a soul. We peeked into some of the other rooms while they were being cleaned and they were bigger. If you are going to stay here, stay in one of the more expensive rooms. Although the heat situation probably would have been the same. And at that price- I want to be able to order room service!!! We do think the place is haunted too... During the night our T.V. went on by itself twice. And after walking out of the bathroom and turning the faucet off...it turned back on...once I was about 5 steps from it. read more

Stayed there this past weekend. What a treat, it was a fabulous location, right in the heart of town. This is an older hotel, so do not expect a flashy large chain type. BEWARE of Valet Parking at any of these hotels....they damaged my new car with a 16" dent and scratch on my passenger door and will but will not take responsibility for the damages. The Historic Inns employ Towne Park...who walked around and inspected my car when I checked in and determined there was no damaged....when they brought me my car the next day the damages were clear as day. The valet manager and the Gov Calvert House front desk staff were immediately defensive and completely denied any responsibility and treated an innocent guest as if I had done something wrong. You can research Town Park and see the plethora of negative reviews with damages and denying all claims...which they have done with my claim. Shame on Historic Inns for employing an unethical valet service and treating their customers with complete lack of respect and no remorse. read more

We stayed at The Maryland Inn, but had valet service via The Governor's House. On the first afternoon we were there, I picked up the car from the valet service and drove the car to The Maryland Inn down the road. When I got out of the car I noticed substantial damage on the fender, and notified the valet service upon arriving at The Maryland Inn. After phone calls, and a letter I was notified since I did not notify them when I picked up the car at The Governor's House, they are not responsible for the damage. I did not know that you had to inspect your own car after the valet service brought the car to the front of the building. Since I have incurred a substantial bill to repair my fender, I highly do NOT recommend staying at any of the 3 facilities tied to their organization. read more
