I'm teaching classes here this week and ordered donuts for the class participants. I picked up two dozen donuts every day for five days, and I sampled several different donuts during the week. I was disappointed with the donuts. After reading the great reviews I was expecting some incredible donuts. But I found them to be dry, and too sweet. It could just be that I prefer light donuts with more flavor. But I wasn't a fan of the texture, and they definitely tasted dry. My order was always ready on time, and the employees were always very friendly. The shop is attractive. The donuts were large and attractively decorated. But in my opinion they didn't taste as good as they looked. read more

Love stopping in the morning for a doughnut on 4th st. Hannah( maybe because that's the name I see on a cup) is always attentive and polite to me it's a great way to start my day. read more

I'll never understand why this town likes these donuts so much. Literally every time I have them they're dry and/or over cooked. I've never had a good donut here. I try them every once in a while just to see if they're any better. This most recent time I had a French curler which are my favorite. They look so good, but might as well go to Dunkin and get them cheaper for that quality. The staff is always very nice so I'm giving 2 stars, but it's just not worth it read more

it would be amazing if I could get waited on the mornings when I come. I've been here 5 minutes and nothing! its a repeat problem. Finally left. I realize I'm only one customer but i could be a repeat customer . read more

Mary Lou Donuts One of my favorite places at Purdue! The blueberry donuts are so dense and rich with flavor. The Apple fritters are amazinggggggggg. Everything they have is perfection. So many good memories of stopping by for donuts when my parents dropped me off at Purdue each year 10/10 definitely recommend during a trip to Purdue read more

Our son is in his first year at Purdue. When we went to visit him last we decided to check out Mary Lou Donuts. They supply donuts at the dinning halls on campus and our son said they were amazing! He was right. The place was busy but service was fast. So many options to choose from. They were very patient with us. The donuts were delicious. Our favorite was the blueberry cake donut. read more

YUM! These are the tastiest, freshest doughnuts in Lafayette! The cost is low and the doughnuts are wonderful. Seeing the building evoked a sense of nostalgia in me--I remember visiting a small A-frame style doughnut shop with a U-shaped indoor counter regularly back in Chicagoland and was excited to see that same structure out in Indiana. The doughnuts are so delicious! My favorite is the custard-filled chocolate glazed, though you really can't go wrong here. They're also known for their apple fritters, but my heart is with that custard-filled doughnut! Definitely worth a visit. FYI--they are operating as a drive-through at the moment because of the pandemic. The line seems long when you pull in but they are efficient! read more

Dropped by during "rush hour" Saturday morning. The drive-through was long but the service was so efficient we got through in no time. Tried the following: 1) Regular ring donut with chocolate icing 2) Red velvet cake donut 3) Cream cheese danish pastry The regular chocolate donut was as per the usual. The red velvet was very good - super moist and decadent. Would recommend it! The cream cheese danish pastry is an interesting one. It has both cream cheese and a sugar glaze on top, so with every bite you get a hit of sweetness mixed in with the cheesy/salty flavour. I kinda liked it, but I can imagine it wouldn't be for everyone. All of this plus a small coffee for less than $6. Worth it. read more

Had these catered in for a work event and my God these donuts are fantastic! I tried the maple glazed yeast. The maple frosting melts in your mouth and is full of maple flavor! The dough itself is perfect! If I'm ever in the area again Mary Lou's will definitely be my first stop! Can't wait to visit the storefront! read more

Absolutely love Mary Lou's. Unfortunately they have made a few poor choices recently that are greatly impacting the quality of the product that used to be found here. With the recent expansion store completed on the east side of Lafayette, they are no longer making donuts fresh at the 4th street location. The donuts that you will get now are going to be 2-3 days old and in most cases the glaze will no longer be glaze. The glaze melts, the donuts dry out, and the flavor just isn't what it should be. I hope they will soon return to cooking fresh at the original location, in the mean time of you want the best experience you're only option is to head over to the store on the east side of town. read more

It's the apple fitter for me! Huge with a soft middle! It can be two breakfasts if stored in a tight ziploc bag. My son is a fan of the giant cinnamon roll donut and the tiger tails. We like the new east side location just because it's bigger and not as crowded as the original location. read more

I'm writing this with the donut sweats. It's like the meat sweats but better. So I live in Westfield but I work in Lafayette currently. One of my co workers has the hookup for this place and I "usually" have some semblance of self control but honey no. On this night there has been zero self control. I don't take pictures at work because work = hospital and hospital = HIPPA and I don't play that so look at the other people's pictures. Maple round donut: 10/10. A freaking classic. 10pm I know it isn't "fresh" so if I'm giving a couple hour donut a big rating you know it's fire when it's fresh. Came back an hour later for a red velvet cake donut. 8/10 because red velvet is hit or miss for me, but I'm fat so I was about it. Came back 3 hours later to this box of donuts. Blueberry did not disappoint. I ate it instead of my low carb sensible lunch and I'm not mad about it. 9/10 blueberry. I can't say anything about the ambiance. I might go find it and try it! I can give the service 10/10 for feeding hungry nurses. Thank you! Next time I plan on getting a sprinkled one! read more

great donut options, friendly staff making stopping in a real treat, hard to pick a favorite.

I have been to this place here and there for the past 15 years. Truthfully, they sold their ownership years ago and it has never really tasted the same since. Its not terrible, you can pretty much expect what you get. One thing that has confused me about this place for a long time is their prices. For a muffin it is $2.50. The muffin is the same size as a muffin youd make at home. The cinnamon rolls are bigger than your head l, and also $2.50. Its really not even a choice when it comes to the portion of what you are getting. They also seem to have a unpleasant attitude a lot of the time. read more

This doughnut place is slam packed every time we drive by so of course we had to stop and check it out. We ordered a dozen assorted doughnuts online for about $10. They were ready in about 10 minutes and a staff member brought them out to us. I do recommend ordering online so you can avoid waiting behind 20 other cars, however the downfall is we did not get to pick what types of doughnuts we wanted. That being said, every single doughnut we have eaten thus far has been absolutely delicious. They are sweet, soft, and there is no doubt they're freshly made. Our whole family loved em and we are looking forward to coming back and getting more! read more

I'm not a big donut person. But when a family friend brought me a donut from Mary Lou's to try - WOW. This donut sparked joy, as they would say. I tried the blueberry cake and there was a great blueberry flavor with small chunks of blueberry in there, too. Can't wait to visit the storefront next time I'm in Lafayette! read more

I have went to Mary Lou Donuts for years and I have never got a bad donut. I usually order 6 maple nut, 3 chocolate sprinkle & 3 white sprinkle. Today I arrived around 9:30am for my regular order. I was embarrassed when I presented my donuts as shared gift this morning. Donuts were not only over cooked and dry they had very little icing on them. This was a huge disappointment. I would have never thought Mary Lou would serve these. read more

This place has the BEST apple fritters ever. I also heard they have great cinnamon rolls! Every time I come to visit my son in Lafayette, I have to go get an Apple fritter! Have to go early, though, because once they sell out you'll have to wait until the next day! read more

If you're driving through Indiana and need a quick sugar break, this is the place! Even if you're not a enthusiast like my friend who ate half a dozen Mary Lou donuts in one day, you will love these for sure. Selection is insanely unique/varied and the people behind the counter know each and every single one. They are more than happy to tell you the most popular ones. But the reason why I like these donuts because they have a super airy and stretchy interior. Because of the yeast they use, the donuts rise to really big sizes that makes the donut worth every penny. And even better, the donuts are reasonably priced and picture worthy! read more

I've been all over. These donuts are not special, so i struggle to understand the adoration of the locals. I wonder if it is because A) they're cheap B) they're local or C) they have way too much sugar in them. This place should be called Dominos sugar shack. Nobody on here can tell you exactly what their prices are. THEY DON'T POST THEIR PRICES. Nobody can easily tell you what donuts they carry. THERE IS NO MENU. My guess is then that the quaint old time setup and - FANTASTIC EMPLOYEES - help people rationalize a mediocre donut place where you don't know what they have nor what you will be charged for it. Or- as true sugar addicts, the customers really just want their fix and don't care. Hammer donuts near Purdue has superior donuts by far, as does Payless for that matter, but if you want the "fun" of a shop that can't be bothered to post prices or you need a pixie stick like sugar rush, well... yeah, come here. read more

This place is a winner! The donuts are excellent quality and very fresh, clearly baked just that morning. They're nice and big, too, which makes the price reasonable. The building and decor are nice as well. I would definitely come back here again! read more

I hate to give two stars bc I feel they are really trying but all donuts are not created equal. The spot is nice and new and they have a TON of donuts but the taste just doesn't do much. Idk what it is. We bought a couple dozen and some of them lacked any flavor at all and almost tasted burnt. To consume so much sugar in a sitting better be worth it and this wasn't. Best of luck but I won't be back. read more

This is my hometown, this is my childhood and it's a staple when I come back home for a visit. The remodel is a great set up and the staff is always so friendly. I'm not a huge donut fan but the apple fritter or "bear claw" is what we call it is amazing! Definitely try it out if you're here visiting or never knew about this place. It's small but it's a great piece of history. read more

Mary Lou Donuts - Apple fritter and cup of coffee. - Donuts Near Me - Lafayette, Indiana

So disappointed! I went in 3 days before my event to place a very important order. I asked if they had baby blue sprinkles and baby pink sprinkles and was told yes. The employee spent a lot of time helping me. I requested the donuts half with baby blue sprinkles and half with baby pink sprinkles. What I got was two with royal blue sprinkles and two with pink. The others had NO sprinkles and two had multicolor sprinkles. This may not seem like a big deal but it was to me. I called the store and the manager didn't apologize- Just blamed it on the employee taking the order read more

Great donuts for an amazingly cheap price these days. Great service. Stopped in for a dozen assorted and couldn't be happier.

Great donuts and coffee. The big apple fritter is well named. We loved this place while we lived in the Lafayette area.

I grew up on these donuts but they're just not the same anymore. There's barely any cream in the donuts and they taste like fried grease. The apple fritters are bigger than ever but unfortunately it was a little burned on the edges and tasted that way. It was a disappointing morning. read more

OMG YOU HAVE TO TRY THEIR COOKIES!!! I lived in Lafayette for years and years before trying out their sugar cookies. Of course the donuts are great, and it's a fun place for a quick snack. BUT THE COOKIES! They are the perfect softness, thick, and a slightly spiced taste. The frosting is amazing, and they are better quality, better tasting, and CHEAPER than pre-packaged cookies you buy anywhere else. Whenever I'm in town I order 3 or 4 dozen and take them back to Georgia with me! The recipients are always in agreeance that they're the best cookies! I even vacuum packed some in my food saver (gentle and "wet" setting works best). You can get any kind of shapes for whatever occasion you might want them. Just order a day or so in advance. You'll be glad you did! read more

Not sure what other people are eating. Donuts were very heavy and not because of filling. Smaller lighter batter would be a good start. Next was the frosting. There was another customer that said too little. Well they over adjusted. Frosted thickly which is not always a good thing. Finally, the filling was minimal. I have had better donuts from Dunkin and Krispy Kream. Not a fan. read more

The donuts at this place are a favorite treat, and one was certainly in order for me and my little buddies after a long week. I want to live here. Seriously. The minute you get out of your car, you can smell the freshly fried donuts in the air. You're not human if that smell doesn't instantly get your mouth watering. I got the apple fritter which was HUGE. I could only finish half of it and took the rest back with me but it was delicious. Super crispy on the outside but soft and warm inside. I was lucky enough to get them while they were still warm and it was amazing. That giant thing for $1.50 is a steal. My friend got a half dozen glazed donuts which he promptly inhaled as we sat down. The whole box was about $3.50 which is some dirt cheap pricing for the quality. Like others have mentioned, the staff is by no means warm and cuddly but they weren't rude either. Don't expect smiles as you walk in but I'm sure they're just preoccupied with not eating everything in the store. I will 100% be back (probably tomorrow) to try what other donuts they have. From the other reviews, it's seems like you really can't choose wrong Update: Giant yes to the Boston cream. Also any cake donut will literally melt in your mouth. read more

If you're looking for the best donuts in the Lafayette area, look no further. Mary Lou's offers incredible homemade donuts at unbeatable low prices. The atmosphere has a warm and homey feel. Walking into Mary Lou's reminds me of walking into my grandma's house when she had just made a fresh pie. I really like the Bavarian creams. Their filling has a unique tangy flavor that I've never had anywhere else. They also have very good powdered donuts with a lemon jelly filling. Yum! Fresh and lots to choose from! Way better than 'the chains.' Great price as well!

This location is outside of downtown and a couple miles from Purdue's campus and I had passed it probably a dozen times before noticing it. They have a drive through to get your donuts or walk inside to check out the large selection. Now I did select a blueberry cake donut which was bigger than most location cake donuts and very good the cherry mini cupcake was a little to much artificial flavoring for me. Overall the price was good though. And some of the options looked like two people could share. read more

I think they probably fry the donuts in lard. That's how good they taste. Not greasy-- only gorgeous. A million delish donuts every week.
