Went in for a quick breakfast stop and in search of a "Luke's" vibe (did not deliver on that front) it was clean and had decent (albeit awkward) service.... very dog friendly (with a dog menu...?) but...paper menus aren't current...breakfast sandwich wasn't warm ...fried green tomato sandwich was just a sliced, plain red tomato and the coffee was barely saved by the almond milk.... overall a confusing spot but good location read more

Adorable cafe located in the center of Washington Depot Connecticut. Tastefully decorated inside with an abundance of seating, along with some tables outside for those of you with your furry friends. My husband and I stopped here with our small pup after hiking up the waterfall at Kent Falls State Park (highly recommend!) You order at the counter, and they bring your food to you. I ordered the turkey club with a side of chips. The turkey club was delicious, and it was served on some sort of wheat bread with seeds in it. I should have asked for white bread since I shouldn't really eat seeds, however, I didn't see the bread type on the menu. I could have just missed it. Regardless, I ate what I could and enjoyed it! We sat outside, and it was clean and quiet. After our lunch, we were craving some coffee and ordered two lattes to go. I had the caramel latte and my husband had the dark chocolate latte. I enjoyed my coffee very much, even though it was pretty basic. My husband's latte made the whole car smell like tootsie rolls which isn't a bad thing! I also saw peach and lavender flavor for the lattes which I found very interesting, I just wasn't feeling too adventurous when it came to my latte. I had been by here a billion times...and had never tried this place. BF likes the Gilmore Girls so in the process of going on the "where I grew up" tour through the area, I took him here since allegedly Luke's Diner is modeled after Marty's, though I don't agree with that at all. (The Depot being the basis for Stars Hollow however, I do agree with) Luke would never have wifi or such foo foo things as paninis. ;) That said, I very much enjoyed my chicken and goat cheese panini. The shop was very cute & comfortable so we hung out for a while and just enjoyed our lunch before exploring Hickory Stick afterwards. read more

The atmosphere and decor are great and the food and service are even better. Loved our turkey club and southwestern pasta salad-so delicious! The cinnamon ice cream was amazing. A charming little cafe in a great area of Washington Depot. My husband and I stopped in on a Sunday morning for a light breakfast and coffee. Inside, Marty's is modern, updated, and so cute! They had display cases with their delicious muffins, croissants, and baked treats all beautifully set up in glass jars. Their menu had perfect dishes for everyone's palette- omelette, avocado toast, breakfast wrap, oatmeal, and even a light breakfast of boiled eggs with healthy sides. We ordered a breakfast wrap, avocado toast, a latte, and a coffee. My latte was good! Warm, had just the right amount of flavor, I do think the espresso could have been a little stronger. The breakfast items we had were good. Nothing over the top or fancy, just straight forward, but clean, not greasy at all, and fresh. I would love to have two eggs on the avocado toast. The thick piece of toast you get can definitely handle two eggs. We would love to come and try this place again and maybe even a lunch this time. Their menu sounded great for lunch! Semi awkward. The set up is not welcoming. It's hard to see the baked goods, which don't look delectable and mouth watering anyway - more like out of some grocery store box. Heck, they should stock Sodelicious bakery items from Kent. Anyway, I stop on random occasions and they never have any interesting good items to make me want to grab anything more than coffee. The day I had red wine it was a disappointment. Some crappy little bottle. It could really be a lovely afternoon place with nice wine and cheese as the seating is lovely both indoors and out. The ice cream in the back doesn't beckon me. I'd rather drive further to any local dairy. I liked Marty's old furniture store better. In fact, still have many pieces from there. read more

We basically came here based solely on the photos, thanks to one of the previous reviewers for posting all the great shots! Food or drink was secondary for us today. We were looking for a comfy cafe with lots of light, COUCHES and nice artistic decor that didn't look like a jumbled mess of tacky nightmare-inducing garage sale fodder like some other coffee joints. Somewhere to feel relaxed and work on the laptop if needed. Marty's nails it. The vintage wood door, matching dark aged wood furniture against light paneled walls and carpet, the comfy couches and pillows we were looking for and light jazz music. Perfect! (Okay, if I had to nitpick, I would prefer real Jazz classics as opposed to smooth Jazz, but eh) Had a cappuccino and cranberry muffin for about $6. I don't think that's that bad of a price, especially if you're going to stick around and enjoy the ambience and free wifi. Of course, I'm from Hipster California so I'm used to high coffee bar prices. As for the lady that works here, I was pleasantly greeted and quickly served. I started on the right foot with common manners of course, and saying a nice short greeting, please, and thank you will take you a long way with most people. So treat her with respect and courtesy and you'll get it in return. Oh and the cappuccino was very good! The cranberry muffin was exactly as you would expect, and a good size. Again, prices don't seem that big of a deal to me, but either way I'll share a photo of the menu so you can judge before coming. read more

Love stopping here every time I'm in town! Such a cozy feel, delicious food and coffee, and a great spot to get lost in a book.

Three different food items ordered, everyone liked their meal. That included grilled cheese, chicken burrito and Cobb salad. Portion sizes were filling (see pics). The place was packed, which seems great, a good place deserves to stay open. Except the place was so packed at the time people didn't want to wait in line and left. Which would have been fine if the people packing the tables weren't the freeloading off the wifi types with their noses stuck in their devices. This self-centered rudeness needs to be stopped. I'd recommend the establishment have their router be set up to repeatedly kick people off after 30 min. TL;DR The food is good. Don't let the wifi freeloaders taking up tables stop you from eating here. Just nicely ask them to leave. read more

We were looking for a vegetarian-friendly place for lunch as we were traveling home from Litchfield. A little searching turned up Marty's Cafe. We had an excellent experience. The service was very pleasant, and so was the setting. The veggie burger was quite tasty, as was the espresso americano, soy cappuccino, vegan Mexican coffee bar, and vegan chocolate chunk bar. I so want to patronize my local coffeeshop, but every time I try, I have a bad experience. The woman who is often behind the counter is a NASTY GRUMP and the other staff is slow and not very accomodating. I'll stick with 9 Main in New Preston or Lazy Frogs in Morris, where the stafff is friendly and the vibe is much less pretentious -Marty's is East Hampton in CT. If the weather's nice, grab a fresh roasted turkey sandwich and a trailblazer cookie at the Pantry nearby and sit outside. read more

Should have know the staff was unfriendly the second i called to place an order, the man on the phone was nothing but rude (pretty much screaming thru the phone.) Then when it was time to pick up my food the women at the cashier was not welcoming at all. She took my card and asked if i wanted to tip, but i was only doing takeout so i didn't feel a tip was necessary after paying $40 for 2 sandwiches and 2 coffees.... Was never given a receipt to see how much everything added up. The food wasn't great, one slice of turkey and no mayo on the sandwiches. Really disappointing. Won't be coming back. read more

I've been here many times, live in Washington, and think I can write a solid review. Pros: - This is a great place to meet up. Washington (and the Depot, etc..) don't have many spots where you're able to just sit and have a wonderful conversation with either a friend or a business partner. - It has wifi. If you live in Washington, this is a perk! It's also a nice place to catch up on some work online - because it's fairly quiet. - You are never rushed. Cons: - It's a bit expensive for what it is. Prices for small things, like a cookie, are a little surprising. - Food, for me, has been inconsistent. So overall, if you're going to meet up with friends or a business partner, I give it a thumbs up. If you're going for breakfast or lunch? I likely would have some better suggestions. read more

Went here today after a long hike at Steep Rock Preserve. I ordered a vegetable panini. The menu said it was to have a portobello mushroom in it. While it was delicious, it wasn't really what I ordered. (They were out of the mushrooms). I complained to the woman at the counter. She kindly refunded the cost of the sandwich back to me. Recently renovated interior offers more seating and comfy work spaces. Great place to meet friends or to get some work done outside of the office. Marty's is really cute, house-like street appeal, plenty of parking on a Sunday morning. Outdoor and indoor seating, the counter has a variety of delicious baked goods. You can either order at the counter to go or sit down with the food menu and be served at a table. The two men working there are super nice but talk to you casually and frankly (giving me Luke-esque vibes). The decor is inviting and cozy, fancier than Luke's but it has the same feel you'd expect. Small town diner with great food, good crowd and friendly service. I was very comfortable there! We found nice couch chairs in a corner looking out the window, really nice! I ordered a pomegranate green tea and waffle breakfast with a side of eggs and sausage. It was amazing! I'm not a big waffle fan, but now I am! Those were delicious! I'm so thrilled to have stopped here, it's a winner. I wish I was in the area more so I could return for a scone or muffin with coffee, but if you're nearby- go!! It's a gem. read more
