I bought a Chevy truck from Marty's (Al) about 3 weeks ago. A rear tail light was out, and I thought it would just be me needing to get a bulb. I could feel the brakes weren't in great condition, but I didn't say anything. It came with one key. No fobs. I was told I could get a universal fob and it would be easy to program. They gave me a really old fob while I was there to take with me. So I failed on a number of things: I should have sat down with Al and a list of things I felt I would have to do with my pickup and then negotiated from there. The tail light ended up being a bad socket, and the other one went out after 3 days so I had to replace both sockets. I had to have brakes done within 2 weeks. Keys and fobs have to be purchased from Chevy, and they were $85 (for one key) and $140 (for ONE fob) plus $80 to program them (a locksmith or dealer has to do this, you can't). So, I should have tried to negotiate the price based upon these things I already knew. Maybe they would have brought it down, but I don't know. I mentioned that the tail light was out and Al told me "that's routine maintenance" - well yes but then knock the price down some for the routine maintenance that I have to do right away. The check engine light came on about an hour after I left. It had 2 codes: one was a sensor, the other was an $800 part for the catalytic converter. So I was told when I walked onto the lot that the carfax value of the vehicle was about $2,200 over their asking price. Now I've put over $2,000 into it with all of the miscellaneous things it has needed plus parts and labor. Also, he had the Carfax report pulled up and was not upfront with me that the vehicle had had moderate damage until I noticed it when sitting by his desk. I had our mechanic to do a once-over on it, and he thought it was a sound vehicle and in good shape. All in all, when buying used cars from a place like Marty's, rather than a dealer, here are my recommendations: get down and look for rust in the wheel wells and under the vehicle. Really test out the brakes when you drive it. Check the fluids and see how they look. Get the Carfax report and read it thoroughly, while you are there. Negotiate. I do understand that I'm not buying a new vehicle and routine maintenance things will likely have to be done. I don't know what to do about the check engine lights - obviously they clear the codes and then sell you the vehicle without telling you the light was on. If you asked, would they be honest and tell you what codes they had cleared? I'm not sure. read more

I would give this place less than one star if I could. We purchased a 09-ford escape in December of 2024. When test driving the vehicle, the hood flew up and went over the windshield, salesman blamed us and wanted to send it through our insurance. We should have jumped at that. The vehicle had little to no gas in it, it looked fantastic and had new tires, we purchased the vehicle replacing the hood on our own, but as soon as we filled the gas tank past 1/2 tank it leaked out. Called Marty's and they said it was NOT a safety issue, so we had no recourse. We have owned this car less than a year and spent more than 3000.00 on repairs. We had to call several times to get our title and license plates not getting them until February 14th, 2 months later. Take my advice and just spend a little more somewhere else. When contacting dealership, no one knows what's going on and they will send you to a third party for loan, costing you more fees. read more

Avoid this place. Hidden things, that won't show up until later. I bought a grest looking * vehicle, $3000 Under their asking price. Within 6 months, I've had to put in $6300 .. less the tires, that's all transmission, misc, stuff that really should've been checked out, if you do * decided to go to Martys, at Least have *your mechanic * not there's like they'll offer to you.. get checked out! Had a great experience purchasing a vehicle from Marty's. Casey was responsive and made the whole thing as easy as can be.

At first it was a decent truck but not even 1000 miles and i have to maintenance everything about the truck and I have over $8000 into the truck still have a remaining balance of $9000 left to pay off and I have another $3000 mechanic bill just to keep the car running. I don't recommend you get a car here if you're gonna spend a crazy amount, just go to a dealer with that money and try to apply for that loan because you're getting a 50-50 here at this dealership and the warranty didn't cover anything because if you buy a trash vehicle with problems you cant even tell or know because the purposely dont have a mechanic or a diagnosis of the car. Long story short the referred warranty company purposely left out parts that go bad so it causes more damage. So a damaged part damaged another part and it canceled out the warranty for a necessary repair. Highly recommend go somewhere else. read more

Found a great deal online and was a bit nervous based on the Yelp reviews. I went into the dealership with an open mind and understood this place has been in business for 30 years and if they were how some reviews read, they would not still be in business. I met with Al and he was fabulous. He kept following up during and after the purchase. He helped me surprise my grandson with his first car for Christmas (which he loves). Excellent customer service and I would buy another car there again in a heartbeat. Car was priced at a private party value instead of a dealership value. Called the dealer to inform him I wanted to test drive a pickup and that I lived 4 hours away, but I didn't want to make the trip if they were going to sell it before I got there. They assured me they would keep me updated. I got there and took it out for a test drive. They sold it to someone else WHILE I WAS TEST DRIVING IT! Horrible place sells broken cars, I bought a car 12/16/2023 A gold equinox for $5,600. The motor is blown Midas here! So the Equinox will need an engine soon. Based on the rattle and metal in the oil. in case the dealer wants to know what is failing inside the engine. They refuse to give my money back, it hasn't even been 30 days...the issue started 2 days later. Once all the oil spilled out the issue showed, with no other vehicle I'm completely stressed. After it rained I had a puddle of water on the front passenger side floor. I lifted the carpet up and the car had a rust hole right through the floor board! My husband is 70 years old and I am 68. We bought a 2016 Chevy cruze from them. Test drove it and it worked fine. After we signed the paperwork to purchase the vehicle, on our way home from the dealership, the car would not exceed 45mph (the transmission blew). I did not make it past the Menards in Burnsville. When my husband and I brought the car back, and explained the issue. They told us "the car was as is. Oh well!" After arguing with the manager and the associate who sold us the car, they told us we could get something else. We then proceeded to look at different vehicles. There was a Chevy equinox that was rather nice, except there was gas in the oil stick. We brought this to the attention of the salesman and they said, "it passed inspection." We also looked at a dodge charger and the breaks were bad. After looking at several cars with issues, we left without a vehicle. They would not refund us our money. We got our 2009 Mazda CX-9 Touring Edition with 90K miles from Marty's Auto Sales in Savage. https://www.martysautos.com/ We were told that the price being about 3K lower than similar reflected discounts applied due to the car needing like- a replacement key to operate the keyless entry and remote start $500 replacement cracked headlight $400 Left the lot with bad brakes, bad tires and low fuel. No wiper fluid in the car which is now part of my "warning signs that the dealership doesn't actually inspect of repair or maintain vehicles" list for furture. What they did not mention was: Immediate Urgent brake pads and rotor replacement: $600 New Tires (worn and two different sizes on a car equipped with 4wd?!) $500 Replace Cracked Rim (which is why the tire constantly needs air) $200 Other issues discovered, but not yet quoted for repairs: 2nd Row seat slide and lock mechanism broken, seat slides back and forth in repsonse to acceleration and breaking. (seating capacity reduced from 8 to 4 until repaired) Front passenger seat electric seat adjustor will only allow you to adjust the seat back if you first adjust the seat totally forward (thus folding your passenger into some kind of pretzel and forcing their head thru the dashboard) before allowing the seat to be adjusted back. Seat belts do not wind back into place after use. Navigation CD does not include Minnesota, the state where I purchased the car and where I live. AND is REQUIRED to even set the damn clock. Marty's Auto claims to have a team that goes over these vehicles. I'm not sure if they just look at them because they certianly can not be bothered to attend to even small low cost issues like putting in a few drops of wiper fluid, much less tending to major safety issues like brakes. Yes, I understand "AS IS" and "No Warranty". So, it's up to me to be an expert in car maintenence and repairs. I should know better than to expect people to care about the general safety and wellbeing of anyone else, much less be honest about the condition of what they are selling. The lower prices they offer are not reflective of the actual cost of repairs unless you happen to be a mechanic yourself. These guys are Shady AF and I do NOT recommend read more

The moment I arrived Al allowed me to roam the lot freely and hassle-free and when I picked a vehicle I was allowed two hours to take it to Firestone for a used vehicle inspection. Once I came back, I relayed the problems that were found to Barry and he offered a nice discount on the car. I will definitely recommend this dealership. Simply put - stay away. We bought a GMC Terrain for ~$7500 and immediately encountered issues. Turns out it needs roughly $4500 in engine repairs. That's after having put $650 into it. It's clear that this place does zero pre-checks and has no intention of working with you when an issue like this comes up. Called on a vehicle - we are 3 hours away. They said to call before we left to see if it was available, which we did, and told them we were on our way. Upon arrival, the salesman could not locate the vehicle and upon further checking, informed us another party had the vehicle out for a test drive and if they didn't buy it, we could take it for a drive; that we could wait or come back in the meantime. We chose to wait, as we had taken off work and driven a long way. My girlfriend bought a Jeep Cherokee 2011 from this place about a week ago and these crooked individuals decide to snowball us by disconnecting the negative cable to disguise a check engine light and a faulty mesh door actuator because they didn't want to shell out to fix it. When confronted they denied and opted not to return my polite phone call about the so called inspection they did on said vehicle, probably because there was none done to begin with. Thing is you can kick off the check engine light and other issue by disconnecting the battery and disguise it for around 50-100 miles so these things just won't show up in test drives and conveniently pop up after you drive it off the lot when you purchase it. Tried to get a truck and put a down payment of $3000 for a $3381 vehicle. To hold till next day because bank was closed on mlk day. Refused to hold it and said we dont hold vehicles for any reason. Said to try to call back at closing to see if it sold , so I called get it in morning. I called and he said something applied for financing and got approved and they are holding it until 10 am the next day !?!?! You think 3000 cash would hold it over a loan approval! I wish I would have read the reviews before I bought my vehicle from Marty's Auto Sales. The day after we got the car home the check engine light came on, we took the vehicle to a Ford dealer to have the engine light diagnosed and was told antifreeze was getting into the cylinder head. A day after getting the vehicle home from Marty's Auto Sales it was recommended that the vehicle needs a motor replacement due to a cracked cylinder. I experienced what most of these reviews mentioned, Marty's Auto Sales did not stand behind the vehicle they sold. Instead they stood firm on that the car was sold "as-is" and there was nothing they would do. They do say on their website that their mission is to provide the best customer service while facilitating a fun, hassle-free car buying experience, they do not do that. Buying a car from Marty's Auto will only lead to the worst car buying experience that you will ever have. read more

I bought a 2007 Toyota Solara a little more than a year ago. I was allowed to take the car in for a safety check, which was a big plus! It needed brakes and tires, which I replaced right after I bought the car. I have not any any problems since. I can recommend them because they will let you take it out for a safety check and I have a great car from them. I would have liked for the salesperson to know more about the car, though. I would never buy from this place. I filled out their form for more info on their website, nobody contacted me. I called and they said the vehicle was still available. The sales guy said it was a local trade but the carfax said it came from the auction. I stopped by to take it for a test drive and within a few miles the check engine light came on but other than that I liked the vehicle. I came back back to look at it again a few days later and the check engine light was no longer on. I took it for another test drive and within a few miles the light came on again. My assumption is they reset the computer and turn off the check engine light on a daily basis which seems pretty unethical to me. Add that to the lack of communication and follow up and I would say stay away. read more
