During a tooth extraction, an existing crown became dislodged and was swallowed. No throat barrier or protective device was in place. While I was gagging, the dentist yelled at me to swallow and stated that if I inhaled the crown, I could die. There was no controlled or clinical response to the incident, no explanation afterward, and no acknowledgment of the seriousness of what had occurred. At the same appointment, the dentist was not wearing a mask while working directly over me. While speaking, a large droplet of saliva entered my mouth from his. At two separate visits prior to this, I raised concerns that dental floss was catching and breaking between my teeth. These concerns were dismissed and attributed to improper flossing technique, without further evaluation. A few days after my most recent visit, the crown in that area fractured. More recently, I was fitted for a lower partial denture. The appliance was placed without checking my bite using articulating paper, without assessing or adjusting for high spots, and without evaluating pressure areas or clasp fit. The clasp is currently digging into my gum tissue rather than seating properly against the tooth, causing discomfort and raising concerns about potential tissue injury. Across multiple visits, communication was minimal. Procedures were performed without explanation, and concerns I raised were not meaningfully addressed. Based on these experiences, I have serious concerns regarding patient safety, infection control, and standards of care at this office. I would strongly advise others to reconsider seeking dental treatment here. read more

Speaking to Dr. DAX and the gentleman who handles the financial conversations! No additional pressure was applied! The number one priority was to relieve my pain. I honestly don't see why Martin Dentistry would even have 1 bad review. This place is amazing! Never has going to the dentist ever been a thing we've wanted to do until coming here! They are amazing!!!! Front desk staff are all so welcoming & friendly! After the second visit they already remember you and really just treat you like family here. They always have a lil basket with pens and you get to take one home. Their waiting area is always clean! They have a water machine. Dr Martin is informative, he tells it to you straight! He doesn't do a service if he absolutely doesn't think you need it. He's very straight forward and nice! He made my daughter feel so safe and comfortable at her appointment. He's made my mom who's been scared of the dentist for 10 years now due to a root canal gone wrong years ago.. he makes her happy to come in! Dr. Doug Martin needs to let his God-like complex go. He is not a holistic dentist or uses holistic practices as advertised, not even close. It was the most unprofessional & uncomfortable situation/visit I have ever encountered in 55 years. Don't ever listen to any medical professional who does not allow you to question, any type of treatment or procedure. It's your body, you're right, to ask questions and get a professional response. (After all, that's what you hire them for). Dentists are a business, you render services too. They work for you, you don't answer to them. Further action other than Yelp with be addressed as I'm sure you will be hearing from the ADA and Dental board for this behavior that took place. This treatment should never happen to anyone ever again, especially to a diabled woman with recently discovered cardiac issues. If I could give a zero (0) rating to Dr. Douglas Martin's Dentistry, I would. After several years of my entire family being patients of Dr. Martin, we feel compelled to finally leave his practice and seek another dentist. During our years, there have been incidences here and there that were inappropriate, but as a family, we've overlooked those, tolerated, and continued to give them a chance. Now, as I look back, our family should have left a long time ago. Today is when we draw the line. My daughter had an appointment for a routine teeth cleaning, as well as a consultation for a possible tooth implant. We received the most inappropriate, disrespectful and unprofessional treatment. Dr. Doug first approached my daughter and asked about her college. He was rude when he proceeded to tell her that he feels bad for her for attending this university and continued to put the school down. This was not the first time he bad mouthed her university. She worked extremely hard to get into this prestigious college and Dr. Doug had no business insulting her. This is uncalled for, hurtful, and simply NOT okay. Although he is entitled to his own opinion, keeping those personal thoughts to himself would be the most appropriate thing to do. This is completely unacceptable as his opinion about her university has nothing to do with dentistry. Dr. Doug continued to make rude comments stating that the retainer with a false tooth in my daughter's mouth was "ugly." These exact words were very insensitive. Her retainer was made and came from her orthodontist, Dr. Baughman, whom Dr. Doug referred. Dr. Doug negatively criticized the work of another and insulted my daughter, which was extremely unprofessional. Dr. Dax, Dr. Doug's son, who works in the same office, came into the conversation to offer his advice on a specific type of implant that he suggested for my daughter. Dr. Doug disagreed with his suggestion and they argued about which dental implant was the best for my daughter right in front of her. My daughter felt uncomfortable and became confused as to what implant would be best. She told both doctors that I (her parent) was in the waiting room waiting for the teeth cleaning to be done and explained that I wanted to be part of the consultation. Dr. Doug replied that since my daughter was 18, she could make the decision on her own. How could she make an informed decision when both dentists could not even agree? His comment was very insensitive as the possibility of a tooth implant is a serious procedure and the funding for this implant would come from my insurance and me. Upon hearing that he wanted her to make the decision on her own, I respectfully asked to speak to Dr. Doug. He proceeded to tell me what he thought was the best option for my daughter. He told me that as a father, he sent Dr. Dax to the best school for dentistry, but one of the professors brainwashed Dr. Dax into believing that a different type of implant was better. Therefore Dr. Doug strongly suggested we follow his own advice, not Dr. Dax. Dr. Doug continued to offer yet another option which would be a stay plate, a partial denture. He said this was what one of his sons has and has no problems with it. I asked if insurance covers stay plates. Dr. Doug said that insurance would cover it, but Dr. Sky, Dr. Doug's other son and dentist, came into the conversation and said that insurance most likely would not cover it. This is another example of conflicting information given right in front of us. Dr. Doug made a comment that Dr. Sky sometimes sits in on meetings and should not. Then Dr. Doug replied, "Why does it matter if insurance covers it? Who cares? It's so cheap--$300 to $400." I answered, "I care, that's a lot of money as I am putting two children through college at one time." Dr. Doug responded, "Well, I put 6 kids through college, but then again, I make more money than you." Upon hearing this, I was extremely appalled and could not understand why anyone would treat his patients so rudely and unprofessionally. A person can make a lot of money, but kindness does not cost a thing. Being sensitive of others and being kind is what's most important. Kindness was not happening today in that office. Dr. Doug is extremely ill mannered, unprofessional, with a negative attitude and does not care about the well being of his patients. No one should be treated rudely in this manner. I do not recommend anyone to go to this dentist. Please beware and accept this as a warning! There are other exceptional dentists in our area who treat patients with dignity and respect, Dr. Doug Martin is clearly not one of them. read more

I went to Dr. Doug for a gum graft. They were so understanding about my fears (and tears) and changed plans to accommodate me and sedate me. The gum graft went well and they made sure someone was able to drive me home afterward. For my second gum graft I ended up needing to see them for some follow-up care and saw Dr Dax. He was so kind and addressed my needs immediately, following up afterwards to make sure my healing progressed nicely. My extraction literally took 10 minutes. The most painful part was the small pinching while Dr. Martin was numbing me. Having a family atmosphere and modern office, it takes the fear out of visiting the dentist. I needed a crown and filling in the two visits and Dr. Dax and his assistant Carla did an awesome job! Dr. Dax has been my husband`s and my dentist for years, always professional, kind and often going out of his way to help and offer valuable advice. I used to have a problematic root canal which all of my previous dentists didn`t help me with the way I wished for and I had some issues with it for years. Dr.'s Martin (yes there are two) are AMAZING!!!! First and foremost the amazing staff are kind, friendly, and welcoming. From the moment you walk in the door you feel safe and welcome (very odd for a dentist office right?) This is a family run business and it shows by the pride the staff takes in their work and facility. My service was lightening quick, and nothing less then one of the most positive dental experiences I have even heard of! Almost like a fairytale! I was told (by another dentist) I was going to lose my bottom 4 teeth if I got a deep scale cleaning (which I needed desperately) so I put it off. Dr Dax was so positive and optimistic and re-assured me that my teeth would be fine. He confirmed my suspicions that I had some major work that needed to be done (I hadn't been to a dentist in 10 years, eek!) But his positive attitude and gentile demeanor made me feel like "Okay I can do this, and it is not going to be a disaster." I went in for my procedure the next day and again the staff put me at ease immediately! Dr. Dax knew I had anxiety about dental work so he did a form of conscious sedation! (AMAZING) I was awake but I still to this day can tell you nothing about the procedure that took place that day. (I can only flash my wonderful smile and know how successful it was) He even let me wear my iPod during the long procedure to again aid in keeping my nerves at ease. He worked diligently (and gently) and successfully repaired the years of damage and neglect in my mouth! When all was said and done, I was a little groggy and Dr. Dax walked me out to the waiting room to meet my ride, HIMSELF! I got his cell phone number in case of any questions or concerns (unheard of!) As well as a care package with special instructions for care afterward. (totally helpful!) I have to thank Dr.'s Martin (both Dr. Douglas, and Dr. Dax) Your office environment and skill have alleviated all anxiety I will ever have in the future about ANY dental work I may need done. I actually look forward to my follow up appointments! I now travel almost 128 miles each way (from Fresno to Stockton) specifically to be seen in this practice! I hadn't gone to a dentist in years due to previous bad experiences and lack of insurance. I bought and redeemed a Groupon back in June and had such a great time. Jackie, the dental hygienist, was thorough and made me feel so relaxed and comfortable. Since the X-ray machine was down, I just had an oral exam by Dr. Douglas Martin. He patiently explained what I needed to do to ensure good oral health and showed me the correct way of brushing and flossing. None of my previous dentists did that. I didn't know I was doing them incorrectly all these years. I left with a bag of goodies and felt like a happy child on Halloween. I just went back for a 3 month checkup this morning and was assisted quite quickly. My teeth are much better, thanks to their previous recommendations. I had Jackie again and she was great. BEST DENTIST EVER!! First and foremost they met my every dental need. They have the greatest rapport amongst each other and their clients. Something I rarely see at a dentist office. They are very personable and put the client's needs first. I called Martin Dentistry after I chipped my front tooth. Michael was great in calling me back and squeezing me in for an emergency appointment. Dr.Dax and his assistant Karla are the best!! They're both very knowledgable and precise in giving great dental work. Dr. Dax really listened to me with my concerns and need for straight teeth. He was able to provide a few options but I decided to go for a few extractions and a porcelain bridge. They kept me "in the loop" throughout the entire process. I went from snaggle tooth to straight teeth in just a few months. During the process I broke my temporaries twice and on both occasions Dr. Dax was able to accommodate me. The first time I broke my temporaries he had to come after hours on a Saturday (the same day as his daughters birthday party). He was really sweet in not making me feel like my presence was a burden. All in all this is the best dental work I've ever had and am extremely satisfied. Other dental offices are just trying to do quick fixes or have such high costs but at Martin Dentistry they really try to listen to what you need and work with you financially. Do yourself and your teeth a favor and do not go here! I went in for some fillings, and while the staff was nice, the work that was done on my teeth was terrible. Since these fillings were done, I have not been able to eat using the entire left side of my mouth. I have been in pain for months and now have to go to another dentist to correct his work. When I tried to tell him about my pain he dismissed everything I was saying. It seems as though he didn't believe me. I had told him multiple times and he tried to recommend a root canal, which I don't need and which would have been much more expensive. Well I left my dentists son the contractor a review after he did a bunch of work for me and I realized I never left my dentist a review. So I have been going to Martin Dentistry for about 25-30 years. I brought my whole family over to there practice for all of our dental needs and have all always been satisfied. I started going to Martin Dentistry when it was just the dad Doug Martin working there and later watched his kids grow up and now 2 of them are dentists that work there. This is a great family practice that take excellent care of other people's families as if they are there own. I still see the old man because I have never in my life had such good shots. Before I saw Doug I was afraid of the dentist and I hated needles and getting shots. Thanks to Doug he helped me get over my dental phobias and look forward to good dental experiences. My daughter and I see Douglas Martin and my son and my wife see his oldest son Dr. Dax Martin and we are all happy here. My children have had all there wisdom teeth removed here and both were very pleased on there experiences. I have some crowns in my mouth that are 20-30 years old and work great and are in good shape. I've had Dr. Doug place several implants and couldn't be happier with price and functionality. I recommend all my friends and family to Martin Dentistry because of the superior dental work they do there. Not only are there great dentists and amazing dentistry done there but the staff is cool to they are very family oriented and get along well they seem to laugh and all talk together which is a good sign of a good working environment. The dental assistants are knowledgeable and friendly. One of the things I like a lot about this office is that the dentist do every procedure with there patients where as most offices have there assistants do a lot of the work with there assistants. Today was my first time here. I have to say ive never felt more comfortable and happy with a dentist like i did with dr. Doug . he is awesome very thorough and to the point. He understood that i am very afraid of needles and the dentist so he made sure to explain what he was doing before he did it and made sure to ask if i was ok through the procedure. I am surprised by the other glowing reviews. I had a 7 year old that had two pretty bad cavities and it was her first trip to the dentist. I was referred to this location by 1-800-DENTIST as a pediatric dentist office. If this is something that you are looking for, I would say that the surroundings are not necessarily child friendly but perhaps the older MD has had some specialized training. The exam/treatment rooms were not truly separate. I could hear the business of the people on the other side of the partition as I'm sure they could hear ours - so not very private. I also found the office to be somewhat outdated. During the time that I was there for a pre-procedure appt and D-Day, I heard numerous conversations. It seemed that many of the patients had no insurance and they really put the pressure on the patients to beg, borrow, or steal - very hard sell. The older Dr. Martin told me not to speak to her during the procedure. "I can't have moms babying their children or they won't listen to me". Being her first dental experience, my daughter really fought getting the shot and wouldn't sit still for him. Whatever he'd given her to relax, didn't work. He later told me that she was tall for her weight and that must have been why. He was very inpatient, yelling at her and I (and I never said a peep)! I know that many mothers would have taken her out of there and ran but I felt that we were there and if we didn't get it done, I'd never get her back in an office and she'd have dentist issues for the rest of her life. She was already half-drugged so I needed to let him finish. He ended up giving her some kind of tranquilizer and did two root canals/crowns. I had to spend over $800 of my own money for tranquilizers. We never went back. Unfortunately, I did get her into another recommended dentist. That dentist told me that she would never have taken such an aggressive action on her teeth and really she would have done something much more minimal. That told me that I was right - they were all about the month. The new dentist was phenomenal and turned what could have been a lifetime of fear into a good ongoing relationship. I wouldn't go back to this office under any circumstances. read more

I broke three front teeth and didn't have a regular dentist when my former Biology teacher recommended Dr. Martin. I have never had a more pleasant experience at a dentist. The entire staff is great and will answer all your questions. He has a no B.S. attitude that is great and cares about his patients. I have a thing with needles, so he gave me something to help calm my nerves before the novacain. He even gives out his cell number in case of emergencies. He always talks to you about interesting subjects as well. The hygienists are great also, very quick. If you have to have some serious reconstruction done, Dr. Martin is the only person I would go to. read more
