You don't know what appealed you so much when you've heard of them but you just can't wait to discover! That's what happened to me for Les Filles Indignes. Maybe it's the name which attracted me actually. You know, when something which should be repulsive (why would I like to spend my precious coffe/lunch time sourrounned by indignity ?!) actually get you attracted. A bit like if I tell you " don't look at my chin " and you automatically look at it ! So when we scheduled our first 2015 Elites Geneva coffee time with (wonderful :) Lisa S. I thought of meeting there ! The place is freshly opened (Jan. '15) and has a great size. Left part is the Epicerie fine and right side is the coffe/drinks/bar area but you can sit everywhere you want and even the left side has couch area. And then, behind, stands the treasure... What makes me like this place more than many others... What makes you feel you are in a movie (romantic one :)... The bookshelf. When I see it, I wish I had an entire life of freetime available. To sit and drink coffee while discovering books. Unfortunately, nobody does. But we all have rainy sundays ;) Though, and that's the only tiny disapointement I would point out : Les Filles Indignes are not open on sundays, for now. It's not that bad. They have plenty of charms to appeal you on week days and why not grabbing a book on Monday morning at 7:30 before starting the crazy week? Aside coffees and Epicerie fine, you will find nice wines as well. Did not taste them but will for sure pass by very soon for afterwork time because they seem deliciously repulsive! ;-) Astuce (which I like SO MUCH that I can't help myself from mentioning it as an Astuce and in my reviews as well) : if you bring a book you've finished reading, they offer you coffee ! (as long as the shelf has empty spaces ;) Hurry!

I ended up grabbing a mini cone and the staff was super helpful in helping me pick one out - pistachio. Maybe because it was in a mini cone, the gelato was underwhelming. It tasted a bit water down to me with the chocolate overpowering the actual pistachio taste. It was a little upsetting, but it was definitely an instagram friendly shot. The cone was really too cute to give up. I would definitely recommend trying out the gelato instead to get a real taste of their signature item.

If you're lucky enough to find yourself in this picturesque city, you should definitely make a stop at Folie Royale for a rich cup of hot chocolate. Let's say that I've had my fair share of hot chocolate in France, and this is one of the best I've had because it's a dark hot chocolate, which is not as common compared to the overly sweetened stuff you can get anywhere. Besides being a chocolate shop, there is a small selection of pastries that you can pick out to be served with your cup of hot chocolate in the tea room. You can get either a small cup of hot chocolate for about $2 or a larger cup for about $4. I got the large--duh! I also got a mini chocolate croissant that had just been taken out of the oven which I dipped in the hot chocolate---heaven! The owner is very friendly and open to questions. He is Austrian and his wife is French, so he was telling us about how Christmas is celebrated in Austria since we were heading there next. Plus the owners were super friendly and it felt very personal and not crowded at all. Food - If you're here for lunch, I highly recommend the "Italian dream" plate, especially if you visit on a summer's day. It was cool and refreshing, light yet substantial. It had lots of little different things so you could combine flavors and s'amuse bien with your food. And of course... it's a tea salon so don't miss the tea! I'm not usually a tea fan but the peach iced tea (it was served sweetened) was to die for. While they are famous for their hot chocolate (and with good reason) it was their ice cream we went crazy for. It was actually significantly better than the famous ice cream a few blocks over at Glacier Des Alps (I think have the name right) - honestly, I didn't think that ice cream was anything special and I wonder if they're just famous for having lots of flavor choices. We had the lemon meringue ice cream and it was out of a dream; just lemony enough but still super creamy, with little bits of candied lemon and the occasional satisfying crunch of cookie or pastry. Texture and flavor wise it was complex but all came together as perfection and we plan to head back there one more time just for ice cream on our way out of town tomorrow.
