I came in just trying to buy cologne, not commit a felony. Before I even sprayed a single tester, an employee rushed over like I was about to gas the entire building and told me to stop spraying it... except I literally hadn't sprayed anything yet. Impressive enough her spider senses were tingling cause she started walking over before I even got to the colognes. Didn't know shopping at Marshall's now comes with psychic surveillance and accusations before you even touch the product. If the goal was to make customers feel awkward for existing, mission accomplished. Maybe next time let people actually do something wrong before acting like they're the reason the ozone layer is disappearing. Great prices, but apparently the customer service comes with a side of attitude and mind reading. Ps: watch out for the witch with a glass ball behind the counter. Shoppers beware! Recently tried to get a store credit for a product purchased online that arrived totally damaged. Both managers were curt and lacked customer service simply by suggesting I write to the Returns Manager in TN. Within (7) days, the credit posted on my account. The managers need to take a few lessons from off-site managers that know how to treat patrons properly!!! read more

Sadly, this place could be the setting of a workplace sitcom. This is attributable to the comically inept checkout clerks and store manager. My last visit before this week was several months ago. I had several items and watched the clerk scan them. I was ready to pay when the woman told me that some of the items had not registered. I took this in stride and kept my cool when the clerk told me that she needed to start over, rather than look at her screen to see which items had not been scanned. I just walked away when I saw her scan a few items twice during the second round and say that she was not sure it she had ring them up twice. I only recall that the store manager was unresponsive and do not remember the specifics. The district manager was very responsive. I returned this Saturday. The checkout line was very long. I could see that the lights for registers 1, 8, and 9 were lit. No one was standing at register 9. I am fairly certain that the woman working at register 1 was who helped me the last time. This time, she was helping the person just ahead of me in line. Despite the long line, the register 1 clerk was working at a glacial pace. She also was chatting up the custOmer, extensively commenting on every item. The added "injury" was taking the time to carefully fold the everyday clothing and wrap it in tissue paper despite the long line. The register 1 and register 8 women finished up at the same time. I went over to register 8 before being called so I would avoid register 1. On getting to the register, I noticed that a woman with a lanyard that identified her as the manager on duty was looking at photos on a phone that it seems that an off-duty employee brought in. I assume that the manager was assigned register 9. She had been away from the register the entire time that I was in line. The woman at register 8 told me that she would help me in a minute. She then went to look at the photos. She and the manager making comments such as "that is so cute" and "that is so adorable" indicates that the photos were baby pictures. The woman returned to register 8 and started checking me out without even thanking me for waiting. She did get sharp at me for not putting my card in the machine even though she had not hit the button that asked me for the payment. The same occurred regarding the step asking about the form of receipt. I decided to call the manager during store hours yesterday morning. I got the night system a few times and got through only after hitting a button despite the system not prompting me to hit anything. He has a fairly distinctive name, and I think that he is who I spoke to the last time. I tried to provide some background, but he repeatedly abruptly cut me off, telling me that he did not have much time to talk. I told him the above tale of woe and mentioned the past incident to provide context. Despite the store only having been open for 15 minutes, he already was very flustered and stressed. He started stating a completely wrong account of the events of the weekend and yelled at me that he did not have time to listen to me when I interrupted him to tell him that he was mistaken. A one star, but the store deserves a zero. I had a manager be extremely rude to me regarding a return. Unacceptable. You go in the store. They harass you to open a credit card. I will say the cashier was extremely nice and kind. I did not have my receipt they were able to pull up the item on my TJX card and the manager wouldn't accept it. The item was not worn. It had the tags on it no reason other than we got this merchandise in March. It was a clearance item. I did not buy it in March. be clearly seen when they review it, I would love to add this woman's name but I'm not gonna do that. I've been shopping at Marshalls and TJ Maxx for years and I've never been treated so rudely be cautious if you're shopping at Newburyport and do not take this woman's attitude. read more

During the holiday season, come early in the day! They are stocking the shelves with fresh merchandise right of the trucks that come nearly every day to help with the rush. The shoe area usually has stuff for us larger footed folks, but the pickings sometimes get slim. Luckily, the hoards of sweaters are always a welcome distraction. The home section constantly gets new merchandise and is a great place to shop for gifts. You can't predict what you'll find, which can be frustrating, but you'll always find an assortment of kitchen tools, candles, throws, and picture frames for sure. read more

This is our absolute favorite place to shop - even when we don't really "need" anything, we can always find something. Bargains, bargains, but go with an open mind and if you see something, BUY it. You can always return it, but if you don't get it on the spot, you'll wish you had. Best buys: Martha Stewart crafts are heavily discounted. Shoes -- an amazing variety - love the Maddens. Kitchen - our favorite, FAVORITE place in the whole store. Great stuff for pets, wonderful pans - over the past couple of years we have slowly acquired a full set of magnificent All Clad pans on the clearance aisle at a fraction of retail. When they have large appliances (like a Kitchen-aid mixer), grab them - at 50% off retail you won't find a better bargain anywhere, even at the outlets. Fabulous note cards and we've gotten some wonderful books too. Best of all, they always have a good selection of Judaica for Chanuka. What they could do better - not much..... I just wish they had a jewelry counter - that would make my day - and a better selection of women's hose (nylons). Best of all, if something is damaged and you are willing to settle see a manager - they will discount it and make it worth your while. read more

I love this store, it is so organized making it a shopping pleasure as I hate shopping. There is normally a line at the checkout, but it moves very quickly. The employees are quite helpful, except the blond changing room woman, I would go there a lot more if i knew her days off. read more

What can I say? Absolutely love this Marshalls even more than the Boston branch. I feel like they get the pick of the litter and I always leave with a huge bag of goodies. Now, the gray/white haired thin fitting room worker is just an evil presence. Went to try on a few items, that I had already taken hangers off of, and I politely stated I wasn't going to take them but I didn't have the hangers. She went nuts demanding I go to the floor and find all the hangers, screamed in my face, and asked if I treated my house like that... I had never seen anything like it. I thought she was going to push and or punch me by the erratic way she was acting. I'll never go to the fitting room again. I'll just have to buy and return, oh well. read more

Where oh where would I be without this Marshals so close to my house? To start of, I'd probably have a lot more money and a lot less clothes haha. This place is seriously my holy grail. I've found so many great articles there throughout the past couple years. The good quality shirts are mostly around 15-20 bucks and the pants are like 20-25! Yes definitely a 5/5! I enjoy my shopping experience today. Sometimes I walk into stores like Marshalls and I get so overwhelmed that I just walk out. But I was impressed with this store, it was nice. The customer service is great, in the dressing room, around the store and the cashiers are all great. Awesome! read more

Great prices but inconsistent stock. Basically if you shop and see clothing you like, buy it on the spot as it probably won't be there next time - it will have been replaced by a new ultradiscounted line. Not a "last minute" shopping destination but otherwise usually the best value for your dollar. read more

Marshalls and TJ's are off price / discount stores - you get what you pay for. I have become increasingly disappointed with shopping at the Newburyport location, it does not seem to receive as many "designer" goods as some of their other locations, mostly poor knock-offs and items produced exclusively for the off-price market. Additionally, the Newburyport Marshalls is sorely in need of renovation - the store is dirty and needs serious attention. read more

My favorite Marshall's. Some of the same employees have been there for years, and that consistency helps make it a well-managed store where I always find great stuff. Wish they had not eliminated the jewelry a few years ago. I've shopped at many other Marshall's in other parts of the country and this is sitll the best. read more
