I'm here for a birthday party and I needed some dress socks for my outfit and Legos for the kids. I get to the socks in WalMart, and they're locked up behind glass. No employee around. Fine, I go to the Legos thinking maybe I'll find someone to unlock my socks as I walk to Legos. Nope. Legos are locked up too! So I pressed the red button. No one came. You have to go looking for a worker to unlock the stuff you want. No one helped me, and I gave up. I went to Ross in Ukiah instead and found sock and Legos there in the morning. Walmart is frustrating!!!! Avoid!

The customer service at the Membership Services desk was the worst we've encountered at any Costco. The employees we interacted with were unhelpful, lacked knowledge of Costco's policies and procedures, and did not handle our issue professionally. As long-time members, we expect a higher level of service. We hope corporate management provides additional training so future members receive the outstanding customer experience that Costco is known for.

We continue to buy the Humboldt Bay Coffee ($18 for a 2.5 pound bag) and a 2 pound bag of Black Oak Coffee Roasters for the same price. Both are excellent In addition they have a good selection of Mendocino Spirits and I highly recommend their Low Gap Bourbon. AS with many things we do we have some rules that help us get out of Costco with our pocketbooks and dignity intact: 1) NEVER EVER go in hungry. That 25 gallons of dill pickle chips is much easier to resist on a full stomach.... true story there. 2) Avoid the free samples. People seem to lose their minds with this stuff. They abandon carts with crying babies, block isles, etc all to get that tiny portion of hummus. I have been shoved aside by someone desperate to get a free piece of cheese. Honestly I have seen more dignity from actual starving people in a disaster zone but I digress. 3) Avoid the weekends like the plague. 4) See #1 5) Go often. Costco uses alot of psychology and the fear of missing out is one of them. Odd items you must have pop up then go never to return. I CAN'T MISS OUT AGGGGGGG 6) Know your codes: At costco any price ending in 0.97 means it has been marked down. Any price that is not a 0.99 or .97 such as say 0.49 means it has a manufacturers discount. and price with an * on it means its done and will not be reordered so stock up. If it ends in a .00 or a 0.88 a manager has reduced the price at that location to clear it out. 7) When in an unfamiliar city head to the Costco. They always stock local items you can't find at yours (like two pounds of single origin Kona coffee for 30.00 at the Kilaua / Kona store etc.) and have cheap gas.

Even though McCaulou's is much smaller and very local compared with what Mervyn's was, it's good to have the opportunity to shop in person at a retail department store. For a small store McCaulou's has a pretty good selection. It's mostly casual and leisure attire. Yet for summertime, the store carries brands like Champion, Columbia, Still Water and Tommy Bahama. To me most of the styles are plain, yet one can do lots of mix and match for an outfit. Perhaps, because my thoughts lately have been wandering off and imagining what it would be like to vacation at an exciting getaway place like the French Rivera, I looked for a complete matching outfit. And I found one by Salty Crew. Cool, a bit contemporary but classy. I was thinking...Something to wear not only poolside but also befitting at a nice hotel's lounge and cocktail bar.
