I needed a tiny metric stainless set screw. Going to Ace or Home Depot was a waste of time. So when I called 4 different speciality fastener stores around the city, nobody had M3 set screws or anything smaller than M4. One phone call to Marshall's Industrial and the lady did a quick check and confirmed. The place is like Harbor Freight but kind of a backstreet locals type place, behind Natsumi & Starbucks. They knew exactly which aisle to send me and the big dude in Orange knew exactly what bins to look for. Again, nobody across SD had M3 set screws. They did. The people are friendly and help solve problems when it comes to finding an appropriate fastener for a project. The selection of nut bolts brackets hoses you name it is fantastic. If you have an idea, walk around the store and there's bound be away to make your dream come true, I had to manufacture brackets to repair a table. The original brackets were no longer available. I found the appropriate bolt with the proper thread that most stores do not carry a large washer and I use a metal sealant to include two parts and drilled holes to screw them into the bottom of the table. Value sense of account accomplishment fixing something that they thought they're gonna have to throw away. the elderly couple actually still use this table and hope to use till the day they carried out their front door feet first. They refused to take back a faucet aerator that did not fit my faucet because she said it was wet....obviously because I tried to put it on my faucet and it was the wrong flow rate and size. So it got wet...it's part of a faucet. If they had any customer service this would have been preventable, but when I came to the store to buy the aerator in the first place, despite bringing the fitting from the original faucet, no one there was able to help me match it. The clerk, when I checked out originally said I could just bring it back if it didn't fit. Do they literally think I'm trying to scam them for a $12 aerator? This just underscores their lack of commitment to customer service since they would sacrifice future business for $12 So much for supporting local businesses. Marshall's used to be my first choice for high quality hardware--and fun browsing of cool tools. I've purchased parts here to rebuild my supercharger, refresh hardware on racecars, and help with home renovations. Today I went in and the gentleman at the counter told me I had to leave my purse with him. So I asked if he could just help me at the counter to find the screws and locknuts I was shopping for. He told me Sure! But someone over there will help you after you leave your bag here. Women's clothing often does not have pockets. In my 6" crossbody bag are my phone, my glasses (necessary to read screw specs), my wallet, my medication, and my keys. I am not inclined to leave these unsecured with a stranger. It would be very silly to carry them in my hands while trying to shop. Just like you don't trust me to shop like a normal human being, I don't trust you with my most personal and necessary items. Pros: They have everything, not just "stuff you can't find in the big guys' stores" but "things you didn't know existed on Earth." Cons: Gruff and awkward employee interactions. The lesson: Never ask where anything is. Just walk around for an hour and figure it out on your own. Great source for fasteners. They have an interesting way of arranging things - find what you're looking for on a board, which is cross-referenced with shelf numbers that are marked on the floor. The bolt selection is better than anywhere else in the area, though there are some things they don't have. I'm still MUCH more likely to shop here than online, it's really important to keep places like this open. There's also a great selection of tools. Might be a little more expensive than a discount house, but within reason and you'll find what you need. read more

I have been looking for a machine screw for a medical lamp for about 8 years. Everywhere I went I was told it was a specialty screw likely fabricated specifically for the fixture and that I should contact the company. The company doesn't make that lamp anymore so I was out of luck going that route. I knew I could get a machinist to make one for me but it seemed like a lot of trouble for one screw and the lamp was still functional so I just kept my eye ou t for it. Then another screw went missing... I've been doing some construction at my new office and I came across this place looking for something else. I thought, "Why not see if they have something with at least the same threading that I can make work." I took the screw in, was immediately asked if I needed help. I showed them the screw and they sent me to nuts and bolts where I was met by someone immediately. He looked at the screw and said, "Do you want a similar size or the exact same screw?" I laughed in disbelief and said, "If you can find me the exact same screw I'll take it." In less than 5 minutes he handed me an identical screw. WHAT?!? This place is amazing. It's like a library with rows and rows of nuts, bolts, screws, washers, grommets.... so many things perfectly organized. Wow is all I can say about this place. If you use tools, need specific hardware for a mechanical project, or just want to cone off your sandbox because you like the color orange...this is the place for you. When you walk on you will be greeted by a wall of hand tools. Everything from metric hex heads to a spanner wrench that would fill in as the perfect blunt instrument. Walk to the back of the store and cornucopia of fasteners becomes your world. If you have a garage, vintage Corvette our back, or just want the ultimate Man Cave, Marshall's has the stuffs. Friendly folks at the check out as well. Update: I came by today after receiving less than friendly service at my usual fastener shop, Ababa Bolt in San Marcos. Marshall's blew me away with their customer service. I walked in and spoke with Lisa at the counter about needing some shock mount bolts for my trailer. She radioed to the back and had Susie meet me in the bolt aisle. We stood together and selected the necessary bolts, washers, and Nylock nuts I needed. Single bolts, not a gross or minimum of 100 like Ababa Bolt, who mindless disappears into the back a throws a bag on the counter upon return. Susie was so helpful, she wrote down all the numbers on my brown paper bag, I walked back to the front of the store where Lisa checked me out at cashier in quick fashion. This is how industrial fastener supply sources should serve their customers! I wanted to give Marshall's 5 stars for all the items they carry, in fact I was on the phone with a good friend who also has many projects he can get parts and tools to finish them .... BUT! While on the phone " Broom Hilda " from behind the counter came out and yelled at me claiming I was disrupting her ability to listen to their handheld radio from 30+ feet away! Really! I apologized for disrupting their "radio comms" sad because it was first time at Marshall's and before "Broom Hilda" I would have sang their praises from such a great place, in fact it reminded me of a scene from my favorite movie The Blues Brothers as my Brother and I were driving through the mall "This place has everything". I called my buddy who recommended Marshall's, he's also a radio communications who said this was normal, the old gal with the German accent hangs out behind the counter correct people about their phones. Sad because how many people have not returned and they need to remember fewer and fewer folks are building or repairing equipment now days, one ticked off offended customer can share their experience with many. Mask natzis! Today I went into the store without a mask. Was told to put one on. I asked why and was told "I can't ask that I just have to wear one" I asked for a mask, put my hand out to accept it as I asked why again and was told to get out of the store I'm not welcome anymore just for asking "why". They used to stock pretty much every conceivable hardware item you could need. Now Marshall's Industrial Hardware is the closest thing to that anymore. They have rolls of rubber, rope, chain, pipe, hose, screen, etc that you can by the foot and a exhaustive supply of every type of loose nuts, bolts, bits that you can buy by the piece or the box. Because of Covid-19 Marshall's Industrial is accepting no returns and apparently wont be accepting returns on any item bought during Covid-19. This seems pretty unfair to the customer. Marshall's Industrial is a hardware store not a Supermarket or Pharmacy. Places like Home Depot and Autozone that sell tools accept returns without a problem. Maybe you should come up with a better strategy. Till then you have lost a customer. read more

I can't shop at Fastenal anymore because all their "stores" are now distribution centers for their commercial customers. They told me to order off their website. So a friend told me about this magical place called"Marshall's", I went there today for the first time, WOW! This place rocks. It is huge and filled with tons of great stuff, not only the nuts and bolts I need, all types, but lots of other useful items, hoses, tools etc. I am amazed at this day in age, when Lowe's makes me buy little bags of nuts and bolts that can not be opened until I pay. Marshall's has discount priced full boxes of bolts/nuts/washers, of all kinds, vast selection of hard to find stuff. And they have a box of each item with a red "X" drawn on it where you can take out as many from the open X box as you like. Put them in a little paper sack and write the quantity and item number on the bag. This requires honesty on the part of the customer and they have pictures of up front of the people who steal from them who no longer welcome. So, please do not be offended if they count what you have put in the bag or act in some way to protect themselves from theft. It's not often you can find a store that extends some trust to the customer to be honest. It feels way better, as a shopper, to take spray paint cans off the shelf myself without asking an employee to open a case for me. read more

So I have been in San Diego for 18 years, and shopping at Marshall's Industrial Hardware the entire time. They have more fasteners of all types than any other brick and mortar store in San Diego....especially the little bitty screws with torx heads, allen heads and other types of heads that are almost impossible to find...and they have them in stainless steel, which is HUGE! They carry almost impossible to find brands and types of product like Wiha tools from Germany, Starrett products, adhesives from Loctite.....you can get this stuff on the internet, or by going to many different stores, but Marshall's Industrial makes it easy to find under one roof. Salespeople that have always stood out to me are Kevin, Lisa, Norine and Olga. Always friendly, always helpful. Marshall's is located in and caters to the area of San Diego for hi tech machine shops and manufacturers. You have to have a basic idea of what you want when you go there. It isn't Home Depot and will never try to be. If you have no idea what you are looking for or how to ask for it, do some online research first. Many of the products here have a specific name, and waving your hands around like an idiot trying to describe what you are looking will not do you any good. They don't carry some things that I consider crucial(small packs of Crazy Glue, more varieties of epoxy, greater variety of Torx fasteners......) and the prices are extremely high in some cases(Wilton bench vises, Starrett products, Surefire light....) but overall, when looking for something that is hard to find elsewhere, Marshall's Industrial Hardware usually has it. I was in absolute AWE when I went to Marshall's Warehouse yesterday for the first time. Centrally located on production off Mirimar. The place has EVERYTHING, their inventory is HUGE, but can be overwhelming. This place is quite dangerous for my company's credit card account. This place is literally my favorite hardware store to come to, simply because they have EVERYTHING. Marshall's caters entirely to contractors with their amazing selection of industrial products. In tools alone, they carry almost anything and everything you'd need to get the job done. Even if you aren't looking for super expensive tools, they carry the cheapo stuff as well. For simple hardware such as bolts and nuts, I've never been not able to find it here. Wide selection of metric, standard, stainless, brass, nylon, you name it, they have it. Everytime a coworker asks if I know where to find a special type of bolt, I always know Marshall will most likely carry it. Service here is amazing as well, everyone on the staff is super friendly and are always able to help you find what you need. They stop what they are doing to personally go and take you to what you're looking for, way better than being told an aisle number in Home Depot. The biggest downfall to this place is the location for me. They are located off Miramar road pretty much and traffic in this area completely sucks, I hate the 805 because the freeway is more of a parking lot than a traffic through fare. If only this place could expand to down south somewhere central like Mission Valley or Kearny Mesa, I would definitely visit more often.
