I was horribly abused by the store manager…read more I want to be really up front about this. I will happily comply with whatever store rules someone has, but without signage, I have no way of knowing what those rules are if they're not typical rules. In this case, there was no signage of any kind. I know this because I specifically looked for it. Carefully. That said, read on. I was looking at the chicks in the middle of the store and no one was around to help me. So I went in the enclosure, that has no locks or signage (other than cute signs) and picked up a chick. Apparently not allowed. Oops. The store manager saw me, came over and went *berserk.* She loudly yelled at me in front of everyone in the middle of the store. She wouldn't back down. Instead, she doubled down and was loudly yelling at me, scolding me, and using very rude language. Humiliating! I explained that I didn't know it wasn't allowed and apologized for my error, and had there been any indication that it wasn't ok, I wouldn't have. I told her she was really out of line and unprofessional and that she shouldn't treat customers this way and that they need signage to indicate that something isn't ok. Or a lock! It made no difference. She continued to yell at me, and even defended her terrible behavior!! I insisted she apologize for her mistreatment, and she sarcastically gave me a yelling/flimsy apology, stating something like I'm sorry you're offended. Which anyone with half a brain cell knows is not an apology. Then she stalked off in a huff. As I left the store, she was angrily instructing one of the associates to put up signage. To make matters worse, I called corporate offices, waited on hold for a half hour, and when I finally got to speak to someone, I was promised that a district manager would call me. No one ever did. If you enjoy being abused, please visit this store and see the young female manager, about in her 20's, maybe 30's light brown hair. Will literally never be back or shop or any of their stores again. This company doesn't care about its customers, apparently. A problem is an opportunity to shine and earn a lifetime customer.

Maxx in Auburn, Massachusetts last evening, Tuesday, May 21, 2025. The young man seemed amiable enough, and that's enough for me. We're not at the Bottega Veneta Boutique in Venice, we're in T.J. Maxx, so "basic" customer service skills are perfectly acceptable. Well, it would appear that young cashier man was incapable of accomplishing even the bare minimum of customer service, and he was not one of the adorable high schoolers there saving for college. This was a whole adult. While cashing out, I was looking to explain one very small detail to him, but he was engaged in deep conversation with his very pretty colleague. I completely understand cashier/player-player, but would it be okay if I explain just one small thing to you? LOL! Well, I thought he was listening, but I guess his head was truly deep in his colleague conversation because he promptly did exactly what I politely asked him not to do. Ugh!!! Then I asked that he please not put my shoes in the bag with my clothing and it would appear that this was a trigger for him as his annoyance was both visible and audible, with him telling me that he could refuse me service and suspend my sale, and to that I responded by saying "please do". It would not have taken a Rocket Scientist to see that he had only one interest at that moment and that was the pretty young lady who he continued to converse with, even while telling me that he didn't have to assist me. Are we serious right now! I unknowingly interrupted your "will you go on a date with me" ritual, and I can't be helped, with my purchase being cancelled. Please T.J. Maxx, that Auburn, Massachusetts is one of the very first, surely you can do better. This was an embarrassing display. Here we have, not one, but two employees who would much rather converse amongst themselves than to assist little old ladies (that would be me). Had there been another cashier available, I would have simply shifted over, problem solved, but he was the only cashier open at the time. I am not one to argue with someone about things that are as unimportant as this, but I have to say that I have never in all of my years been told that I would be refused service. The fact that two whole employees chose to continue a conversation amongst themselves rather than place a bookmark in that conversation to wait on a customer is bewildering at best.

But today, we saw something in their Sturbridge, MA store we had never seen before. They sell wine! Yes, they had a big sign in the shape of a wine bottle hanging from ceiling wires directing us to their wine and beer section. I didn't see much beer, but I sure saw quite a few bottles of wine. Who knew? That was just one of the revelations we had while shopping in their aisles today. The main revelation was just how large and neat and well stocked this store is. Their pricing is about the same as we've seen in other OSJLs, and that means pricing is pretty good. We spent a teense over $20 on an eclectic assortment of Polar Orange Dry soda ($1.99 for a six-pack), a container of curry powder (OSJL is our "go to" store for spices), parchment paper, some beef jerky and beef sticks, some soup and entrée mixes, two boxes of tissues, a container of chicken broth, a box of cereal, and a container of breadcrumbs. A very nice haul for the price. OSJL is an interesting franchise -some locations are small, cluttered, and unpleasant to shop in. Not here, we had a great experience, even if we didn't come out with a bottle of wine. Cheers!
