Portion of sandwich menu.

A small, upscale market centrally located in St. Charles' New Town subdivision and across from the amphitheater. I've found markets like Marsala's typically have terrific made-to-order sandwiches, which is why I stopped in. Marsala's didn't disappoint. It was busy before noon so I thought they'd have some standard sandwiches prepared to go. Nope. They're all made to order. My stacked turkey and cheese sandwich was loaded with veggies on fresh whole wheat bread. Fresh also described the veggies on top. That's my sandwich review but Marsala's is a grocer. It features Boar's Head deli meats and cheeses, breads from St. Louis' Hill neighborhood, other local foods such as Fitz's sodas and Old Vienna chips, delivery side dishes, and some major brands in packaged foods. The meat, bakery, and produce areas were very light on selection. There was virtually no fruit in the produce section, which had a few standard vegetables. (An apparently forgotten full produce box in the middle of an aisle created an obstacle and tripping hazard.) As a deli Marsala's satisfied. But, as a market it lacked in fresh options for standard foods while offering gourmet packaged items at premium prices.

Such nice workers, and staff. It was very clean, and there where a lot of good options of food to choose from. I definitely will be coming back!

Marsala's Market is a tiny little gem of a market situated right in the middle of New Town St. Charles. Throughout the past year I've been to a few events in New Town and have always made sure to stop by Marsala's to pick up a sandwich and a few things for later. I have mixed feelings about New Town... I wouldn't ever want to live there but every time I'm in the area I can't help but notice how adorable the place is. It's literally an entire world in there... if you really wanted to not ever leave, you wouldn't have to. Which in my opinion is what makes it a little creepy... Back to the point, though. Marsala's is filled with everything you'd ever need in a grocery store but it's probably about 1/100th of the size of one. I'm not sure if anyone can relate to this, but when I was little and we'd go camping, all of the "good" campgrounds would have a little store where you could by anything you really needed while toughing it in the wild. Marsala's totally reminds me of that kind of place because it's the only place you need to go while shopping. Fruit and vegetables? Check. Wine? Check. Lighter fluid? Check. Really delicious pre-made deli sandwiches? Check. (Had to note the lighter fluid since I referenced camping.) The employees rock, and I wish Marsala's was close to me so I could make use of the awesome deli meats and cheeses, and more importantly, the small but solid wine selection. Just perfect!

“Obviously, since they are the only option in New Town for groceries, they inflate the prices.”

The junior's section seemed the most promising and organized. There were a handful of nicer brands: Aeropostale, American Eagle, and Nike. That being said, there was also a lot of polyester as well. The prices were good (maybe not for the Ariat boots or Nike) for most items. The linens consisted of some known (to me) brands and there was a good variety of cute sheets, comforters, and bathroom necessities. This is the spot for inexpensive king and queen-sized bedding!! Long story short: if you've got time to kill, you could like find a few things. If not, you may have a few laughs. Either way, it's a fun stop.

The feel inside is that of goodwill where it's musty but the clothes have multiple sizes so you know they weren't donated. Looked like a dumping ground for clothes that wouldn't sell at their respective brand stores or tj maxx. The deals are insane but it was hard to shop because the signage would say sizes XS-S but then sifting through the clothes they hard larges and mediums mixed in in the pants, coats, t shirt, dress shirts... every section. With a little cleaning and organization I think it would be more welcoming to shop. This place replaced Gordman's and it's unfortunate because that place was much much better in every category.

They are also connected to a Marshall's so you can shop both stores at the same time. The aisles are narrow, and kind of hard to navigate if you have a cart and other customers are in the aisle. The Checkout line was long, and didn't seem to be moving quick.

Home Goods Went to Home Goods/Marshalls for the first time…read morein years. They are in one huge building, with shared cashiers up front. At Home Goods, I found lots of options for indoor and outdoor planters and stands. They have lots of plush throws and pillows, home decor, bath accessories, bedding, and more. Prices are good. Like any store, quality varies by brand. Marshalls is the clothing side. I don't care for it so much, because it has a less organized feel. There aren't necessarily multiples of items in different sizes, so you just hope you can find things you like that fit you. That can mean extra time trying things on, or searching racks hoping to find that piece in a different size. I did pick out some $10 sunglasses. Time to check out. Holy crap! There were at least 25 people in the queue. While we waited for 5-6 cashiers to process us, we were herded like cattle through aisles of low priced goods. Impulse shopping opportunities everywhere. Cocktail napkins, candy, curling irons, earrings, hair accessories, phone cases, home decor accessories, toss it in your cart! My cashier was very nice and fast, too. I'm sure I'll go back to HG, but not on a weekend. She said every weekend they have long lines, and they never have sales.
