Blue Heron French Cheese Company was a bit of an impromptu and unexpected stop for us. We wanted to…read moredo something in the area that wasn't the Tillamook cheese factory and Yelp directed us here. I'm so glad it did. They have a shop with cheese, wine, ice cream, snack options and lots of other items. There is also an area outside where you can sit and enjoy your food. They have animals on the property and we purchased some feed for them inside the shop. It's only $1 a bag so we bought lots and headed out to meet them. I loved spending time with the animals but they were not at all interested in the feed. We happened to be eating a sandwich and they were much more interested in that. They have a wide range of animals, from sheep to alpacas and donkeys and ducks and chickens and even peacocks. There's lots to see. That said, I can't really give them five stars because like a lot of the reviews mention, the state of some of the animals is concerning. As much as I enjoyed interacting with them, there were things about their care and surroundings that made me feel really sad. Something I did really appreciate though is that this location allows you to camp overnight in your RV or van for free. This is a huge perk when you're traveling through the area. Because we got here late in the afternoon. We did end up staying the night, but if you decide to take advantage of that be prepared for the bugs. There were so many bugs. There is plenty to see and do here and this place definitely has a lot going for it. If you're road tripping this is a good place to stop. You can get supplies, spend some time with the animals and have a safe place to spend the night.

We stopped in for lunch. Afterwards we wandered around. Lots of things to do, especially for…read morefamilies. We both ordered their hot Italian panini. They were terrific. The best panini I've had for a while. They have quality packaged food as well. Charcuterie in one stop. One building was dedicated to candy. Overpriced for sure. While we didn't visit the petting zoo, it was doing a good business. It was worth our time.

You can go through this place as fast or as slow as you want to. We might've spent around 2 hours but that was including time in the gift shop and carefully reading each sign closely and watching what happens during each process. We got to try samples of 4 kinds of cheeses, smoked black pepper, white cheddar, and medium cheddar, and one more I forget the name of. We also tried some ice cream. It's a cute little stand that you stand in line and grab and go. The gift shop has a ton of items for everyone, even various packs of cheese and cute stuffed cheese blocks. The cafe had your average grilled cheese/burgers, but we didn't end up eating there. The line was super long and the food didn't look worth it to me for the price point. We did end up getting a sampler of ice cream though, 3 flavors being strawberry, Marion berry, and cookies and cream, which were all really good. They were rich in flavor and creamy. Straight from the factory which was pretty cool.

We arrived in Tillamook. Four hungry adults. Waiting for our rental to be available. Where to eat?…read moreNeeds to be, not awful. Not, expensive. Most importantly, Open for business. Mc. Donald's. Nope. Sit down inside of Denny's? With two Senior Citizens and a Person with A Compromised Immune System, Also, Nope! Jimmy John's, not in Tillamook County. Uh. Um. How about Subway Drive Thru. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. It was good to see a restaurant doing well. They cordoned off the seating area and turned it into a Clear Path of Direction. All the Employees Taking Proper Precautions during this Pandemic. The customers however, careless. Senior Citizens with their masks not being worn properly. Teenagers with No Mask. Standing close enough to rub shoulders, literally. Are masks required, Yes. Outside and in. There are few restrictions. I'm no Doctor but I'm sure Teenager's should be wearing masks and being respectful to laws in place. That's my two cents. Pandemic Fears aside. My Wife and I went in as we're used to Pandemic Protocol. We ordered four yummy sandwiches. Each different than the other. All but one toasted. We got a couple drinks. Our delicious smelling sandwiches and said, thank you very much. Now where to eat. One of our crew needed a bathroom and Subway shut theirs off to the public for obvious reasons. Now, not where to eat but where to..... #1. We're told Mr. Meyer's is the nearest place. Off to the races. Two people go inside out of necessity. My Mom and I stay behind and we start in on our yummies. My Mom, eating delicately. Me, animal noises, per usual. Gulping down bites of sandwiches and soda. My Cold Cut Combo was made just the way I like. Everybody ate like the hungry people we were. Everyone liked the sandwich they chose. I really like a toasted sandwich, Subway is usually a great experience for my Wife and I. Thanks Tillamook Subway. Stay clean. Stay open.
