Rocky's an old time barber and been in business a long time. Recommended by my wife's family, Rocky is definitely old school. Gave me a true "Buddha Head" crew cut which will let me get a lot of days out of this buzz. He really liked my story of being from ID now, after bailing out of 30 years in Humboldt County, and moving to a free state. One of the other guys waiting for a hair job wanted to know what I meant by a "free state?" My opening for letting it all hang out: 1) we can carry a gun with no permit, concealed, 2) no one is banning straws, 3) we don't get charged a dime for a damn grocery sack, 4) we don't have no stinking sanctuary cities, 5) and a dozen other things. In turn, I found out Rocky didn't like having a pot head shop right next door. (Want a kick? Read the head shop reviews for Eureka.?) He also liked my description of being a retired logging engineer, "I liked my forests horizontal". So all in all, a neat barber and shop.

First of all,…read morethe vibe was just what I needed as an old (very old) former skater and fan of skate and punk music. And, I was very impressed with how well the shop was put together with skateboard planks and art...with everything very evenly and meticulously spaced out. LOL! Simon cut my hair and did a great job. He is personable and friendly and has a great story. He took his time, got input from me about what I wanted, and delivered exactly that. We started talking about old punk bands and he played some of his band's music which was cool. (Sounded great, I'll definitely check them out!) With all of that and a skilled and friendly Barber, I thought the price made sense. Sometimes you do get what you pay for.... I will definitely be going back before I leave and will recommend the shop to my colleagues. In fact, I recommend Off the Map to everyone...

No fade, simple hard line between shaved and long hair. He was in the shop for about 10 minutes before I met up with him. When I walked in, the man was using what looked like a disposable razor to shave his head and my boyfriend had specifically asked for a straight razor. Because he was faced away from the mirror when the man was working on him, he says he is unsure if he had used a straight razor before I came in. No aftershave or warm towel was applied. The shave itself is uneven, especially near the hard line where his longer hair begins. His longer hair was cut into (most notably a chunk in the back) and he no longer has a clean or even line. Immediately after leaving the shop we didn't notice anything wrong and drove away. However, when I parked the car and looked at him, I noticed what appeared to loose hair. I told him to hold still and proceeded to remove a lock of his long hair. Once we had gotten home, he was able to take his long hair out of his pony tail and another, bigger lock came out. This is when I noticed the chunk that had been cut into the back of his part. My boyfriend also noted the barbers hands were shakey while he worked on him. We will give 2 stars instead of 1 because the barbers were pleasant and they didn't absolutely destroy his hairstyle, but we will definitely not be recommending or visiting again.
