After mentioning the website said 69, I was told that price was for a single person even though it's a double room. Seems kind off odd that would matter since the room is the same. And to be clear, 79 is fine, I just didn't like the bait-and-switch method of renting rooms when he saw that I was to tired to find a new hotel. We took the room and attempted to sleep but we were kept up all night due to the people in the next room talking, opening and closing doors, running water, taking a piss, flushing, and apparently moving furniture. Our room was located at a point where two hallways met, and somehow manged to pick up the sound of every single door on the floor as it was being shut. Not the hotels fault that people are loud but is there fault that they didn't build a hotel with proper insulation. Pillows suck as well. The only good thing about the place is the pool and workout facility. Which is why I am giving them two stars instead of one, even though on my next trip through town I can guarantee that I won't be staying here,

My room was beautiful and clean and had everything I needed and the staff was always friendly and helpful. They don't have a plug convertor to borrow but you could purchase one from them. The restaurant and bar downstairs was so convenient and the food was delicious! The morning breakfast buffet was worth it, although a hot latte seemed to always take them a while. There is seating outside and the view from here is magnificent. There is also a cute bar lounge that is separate from the building down the stairs behind the restaurant. Excellent spot to sit with friends while sipping a drink or two on comfortable seating late at night. The hotel's location was also very convenient. It was not very difficult to request a taxi (or use the Uber equivalent called Freeride app) and it was just a nice swift 20 minute walk down the hill to the city center. I recommend a visit to the English Market - lots of fantastic food and drinks to try! If you like shopping there are also a lot of shops to check out, including bookstores and souvenir shops.

I believe touring Ireland by a car would be the best way to see the country. If you are visiting…read morefrom the US, you have to make sure to drive on the "right" side of roads! :) Anyhow, I picked up a car from Cork airport to head out to this fairly new hotel in the region. I was driving comfortably until I got to the area. But I just could not find the hotel (or get to the way), so I stopped a couple of times to ask for directions. As always, Irish folks are so nice and kind to strangers! Finally I arrived at the hotel without causing any damage to the rental or myself. The assistant GM welcomed me and gave me nice upgrade to their biggest suite, thanks to my Starwood elite status. See the photos. Too bad I did not bring my army as I could have thrown a huge party at the balcony. The bathrooms were all covered/decorated by marble, the living room was spacious, etc. In the evening, they were providing complimentary winetasting at one of the in-house restaurants (The Cove), so I went. Another restaurant (Fota Restaurant) served breakfast which contained European style continental breakfast (incl fruit, cheese, cold cuts) and cooked eggs/traditional Irish breakfast. Their spa has a nice indoor swimming pool. There is Fota Island Golf Club nearby, so if you are keen to play golf, the hotel concierge is happy to book for you. I guess the only downside is there's nothing within walking distance, so you must have a car (or get a cab). But the historic island of Cobh is only a few minutes away where I spent relaxing afternoon and The Jameson Old Distillery is in Midleton which is less than 30min away.

Staying in the cottage called Sadie, we were impressed by the amount of space the kitchen and living room area consisted of. If you pushed the furniture to the walls you could have a barn dance or ceile. It was a grand comfortable cottage, which looked deceptively small from the outside. The main house, surrounding yards, buildings and decking have a lovely natural layout about them. They all fit together so well. The stonework, shrubbery and flowers, add the finishing touches to the outdoor decor. The ceremony room, while a tad hot with the warm day that was in it, was bright and airy. It was ideal for the occasion. After the knot tying, we moved to the decking for a cocktail reception. Which is quite nice, although not high heel friendly at all. The wooden slates setup to let the rain water drain through perhaps? But not wedding reception suitable at all, which is a bit surprising for a wedding venue. The dining room was laid out wonderfully and the food was fantastic. The couple opted for platters of sides and some yummy beef. Excellent idea, people could help themselves to what they wanted, to suit their own dietary tastes. Wait staff pleasant and on the ball. The afters were mighty craic, with the ceremony room turned into the dance floor. Regarding location, Barnabrow is ideal for Ballymaloe, Shanagarry and Ballycotton. And everywhere in between and around. I never actually made it into the main house itself, so cannot comment on that. FYI the locals pronounce it Barna-bro.

I stayed at the Moxy in Cork just for two nights and I really enjoyed myself. This is a brand new…read moreMoxy which I assume took over another former hotel. The place is really nice inside with lots of updates and the trendy decor you'd expect from a Moxy. I've stayed in a few Moxy hotels in NYC and enjoyed my stays. The rooms are always small but economical with plenty of storage for such a small space. That is exactly how this Moxy was, too. The bed was very comfy and the TV had the best selection of channels I experienced from any hotel in Ireland during my stay. There's a desk that folds out from the wall, a small stool, a nook with a seat, and hooks for you to hang your clothes. I really appreciated the lighting since it wasn't just overwhelming overhead lighting. The location is unbeatable as well. Right in the middle of Cork overlooking the river. There's plenty of great bars and restaurants on that side of the river but even more fun places to explore across the way. Everything I wanted to eat and drink was no more than a 15 minute walk away. The reason for the four stars is that the shower, while very nice upon first look, leaked water onto the floor. This was one of the only hotels I saw in Ireland which had a full glass shower door which closed (hallelujah!) but it somehow STILL leaked water onto the ground. Upon brief inspection, I believe the cause may be some sort of construction error. The glass didn't seem to be properly fitted. The other issue I had was with the bathroom door. It's one of those annoying barn doors which slides and this particular door would get stuck and jam if closed all the way. Being alone in the room, this wasn't a make or break issue but if I was traveling with alongside someone, I'd definitely want that door to shut properly and I definitely wouldn't want to be concerned with how I'd get back out. The bar downstairs is really cute and I found all the staff members to be absolutely delightful. From check-in to cocktails to asking questions about the bus system and mailing a postcard, every single staff member was so friendly and helpful. I especially enjoyed my time spent with the bartenders, Olivia and Chris, who provided great drinks and even greater conversation. Being that it's a new hotel, I'm guessing there's just a few kinks that need to be worked out in terms of construction. I'd probably still return despite those issues. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

I wanted to take a moment to recognize Mark Tobin at the Residence Inn & Moxy Hotels in Cork for…read morehis outstanding customer service. My sister, a recent widow, was traveling with her daughter--who is studying abroad in Ireland--and her son. When they arrived at the hotel, they discovered that all the rooms at the Moxy only accommodate two people. As a Titanium member with over 100 nights at Marriott last year, I travel frequently, yet I had never stayed at a Moxy before and didn't realize this detail wasn't clearly stated on the website. To complicate matters, both the Moxy and its sister hotel were fully booked. The only option given was to book a second room, which wasn't ideal for their situation and would have doubled their travel budget. My sister called me in tears, unsure of what to do. That's when I reached out and spoke with Mark. He was smart, kind, and incredibly resourceful. Despite the sold-out status, he went above and beyond--checking carefully until he found a solution. He located a room at the Residence Inn that was out of service due to a minor issue (a hairdryer needed replacing) and was able to move my sister and her family there. This completely saved the day and made all the difference for my sister during an already emotional trip. Instead of simply saying, "We're sold out," Mark took the extra steps to find a solution--something that should be the gold standard in hospitality. His efforts should be recognized and celebrated. Marriott prides itself on exceptional service, and Mark truly embodies that. Thank you, Mark, for your professionalism, kindness, and dedication to guests. I hope Marriott acknowledges and rewards your excellence!
