I paid $225 for her to hem 3-4 inches off of a 3 layer chiffon bridesmaids dress, and just felt overcharged after comparing with everyone else in my party. She didn't tell me pricing until after I had tried on the dress and she had pinned it for alterations, so I wasn't very comfortable to question it. Don't go here. I went here on two personal references and never thought this would happen to me. For one top, two dresses, a skirt and jeans I was charged $360. I was like ok, this must be what it is given the skirt is beaded, pants asymmetrical etc. she basically bunched up the fabric, folded it in and sewed it. I feel like I was charged for a professional job that I did not receive. This is crazy. The green dress shocked me. It all makes sense now how this was ready 3 days after. Not to mention she still had a pin in the jeans where she forgot to move the button over like we discussed. The hems in the skirt were uneven. When I contacted her she gave me $10 back from forgetting the button but wouldn't refund me any of the work. She ruined my clothes and I had to go to Nordstrom to get it properly tailored and even then she would not refund me. She kept saying she could fix the skirt but I don't dare go back. So glad I did a trial with bachelorette and rehearsal clothes because I was considering bringing my wedding dress here. I would have died if I got this botch job on my wedding dress. Don't go here! Though Marliz is kind and I'm sure her other work is great. I was still shocked to have paid over $800 for my wedding dress to be hemmed, straps tightened and the chest to be taken in. Seems really high for what I got in exchange. My dress was covered in different colored thread that I was still picking off the day of my wedding. She threw all my dress scraps in the bottom of my wedding dress bag covered in more different colored thread. The laced hem was poorly done. The cut around the intricate lace detail on the bottom of my dress was all choppy and jagged. It doesn't look like she took her time to cut around the detail at all. The bust area where she took the dress in was bunched up on both sides, And was very uncomfortable on the day of my wedding. It kept riding up because it wasn't sewn strait. Which then made the cups of my dress look empty. The only reason I didn't take it back, was because I was scared it could turn out worse and I also couldn't afford to take it to someone else. I just dealt with the fit as best I could. Luckily I had a reception dress, so I only had to wear my dress for the ceremony. But I'm sad that the dress looks so awkward on my body in my professional photos. I understand labor should never be "cheap" per se. but the work shouldn't be rushed and shotty either. I was never given a receipt, and had to pay her in cash. And I think that right there should have been a red flag. Buyers just beware, she has a really quick turnover, but she's pricey and doesn't seem to take her time on small details that are important. read more

I called Marliz and asked about turnaround time. She said 1-2 weeks. Fine. I had 3 months until my wedding date. I asked the price on the phone. She said she had to see the dress first. I texted her and asked if she could at least give me a price range. I knew my dress needed very little work. When I arrived, she had me put on the dress. She started talking about shoes and jewelry and fashion tape. Asking me what earrings and necklace I was going to wear. I didn't need or want to talk about this. She was driving the conversation and still not telling me the price although agreeing the dress fit me perfectly and needed minimal work. She took the dress into the other room like it was a done deal. Still not telling me the price, and said "I'll have it ready Friday which was 3 days away." I said, "But how much?" She said very authoritatively and firmly $250. I was shocked but I was also wondering what just happened here. I drove away and immediately felt like I had been swindled. I did more research when I got home and it was definitely an exorbitant price to pay. It should have cost $100 at the very most. It just needed to be hemmed. I texted her the next morning to cancel and she said it was already done and her minimum for a wedding gown was $250. To which I replied, "So you do have a price range and it starts at $250? I asked you several times before coming in for a range and you said you couldn't give one." I never would have gone there if I knew her minimum price was $250. Some may think paying $150 over what I should have paid is no big deal. When getting married, you will find you reach a point where you get tired of being ripped off just because you say the word "wedding." Some vendors were great to work with. They were professional and offered a great product or service at a fair price. Many, however, saw an opportunity to gouge me because I was getting married. Marliz was definitely one of the vendors who did this. Marliz only accepts cash, so she clearly is not paying taxes. My interactions with Marliz were so upsetting that I did not even try on the dress when I picked it up. I just met her in her driveway, gave her the $250 cash and took my dress. Really an unpleasant experience for what should be an occasion filled with joy. What could be more exciting than trying on my wedding gown and getting it hemmed? Do not go to this woman for alterations. There are plenty of other great options for tailors and seamstresses in Marin and Sonoma counties. read more

I'm getting married at the end of October, so I called Marliz toward the beginning of September because I wasn't sure what the turnaround time would be like, especially considering the amount of weddings that are happening this season. I assumed she'd be swamped! We met on September 15th and discussed what needed to be done to my wedding dress: hemming the front, bustling the back, and taking it in around the chest. When she said she'd be finished in a week, I was so surprised! She did tell me she was very busy, so I was excited she'd finish mine so quickly. I went back a week later on September 22nd, and lemme tell ya, my dress is PERFECT! The front is the perfect length and the bustle looks so cute. When it came to the chest alterations, I didn't realize how much of a difference it would make! The dress originally offered little to no support for my boobs, but I figured that's just how it was. But Marliz worked her magic and even without tape or anything, I feel so much more supported and the top of the bodice cups my chest SO WELL now. I'm still going to be using boob tape as she suggested, but even without it I felt so much better! Based on her knowledge, kindness, and talent, I'd say a visit to Marliz is 1000% worth it!!
