My two girls went to Marley's preschool for more than two years. After touring five different preschools, I chose Marley's in Sunset Beach (and Seal Beach we went to both). The school was amazing and does more for the kids than I have seen from many other preschools. The teachers are all very nice and truly care about each child. Here is a list of things I really appreciated: 1) Make up days - if your little one is out sick they will let you make up the day at another time based on availability. 2) Providing lunch - the food variety helped my kids try more things. 3) Year books - super cute and a nice keep sake. 4) Performances - Christmas and summer performances were well coordinated and a ton of work for the kids with a great outcome. My kids are still doing last year's coordinated dance. 5) Celebrations - they would celebrate each child's birthday and really make them feel special. Along with celebrating Mother's Day, Father's Day, Halloween and Thanksgiving with special events. 6) Yearly Photos and Graduation photos - it is nice to have a school picture come home. The photographer is great and knows how to get the kids to sit still and look cute. 7) And last but not least, Marley's really prepared my little ones for kindergarten. They knew all their letters (English and sign language) counting (English and Spanish) and almost all their site words. They also provided personalized progress evaluations. My oldest has just finished kindergarten and got all A's. I would like to think it's not true, but I am a difficult personality and hard to please and I was very happy with my experience at Marleys. read more

What an AMAZING place! My daughters have been going to Marleys preschool for 2 years and not only have we noticed a rapid development in their progression of language and verbal skills, I have watched my daughters excel at a rapid pace. They come home singing the alphabet, counting their numbers, reciting their letters, and very early on learned every color of the rainbow. Often, they come home singing songs we had not yet played at home. The teachers attention to detail and genuine love for our children does not go unnoticed. Amber, the Director is especially caring. Her honesty and professionalism made our experience a breeze. We are very grateful for the care and attention that Marleys gives to our preschoolers! Their Summer program is especially great with many fun beach days, jumpers, and all sorts of entertainment including magic shows, prehistoric pets, water slides, and shaved ice. Please Always care about the kids! That's number one! The director of this department is sadly negligent. She forces her own employees to go to work even if they have COVID-19 symptoms. For example, Hailey, who admitted that she was having severe symptoms and was forced to work. The director should test her employees twice a week like every other professional business. You aren't a service to the community if you choose to risk the health of our future generations. We followed protocol, we obtained doctors notes for our daughters stating they are all clear to go back to school, but you refused to review the medical documentation from an actual Medical professional because you claim to be a medical expert yourself, you truly believe you supersede actual Doctors. And by the way, no one refused to pick up my children, I simply explained that I could not make it there in 30 mins, if you were not so negligent, and stepped into the office, you'd see that there was multiple emergency contacts . No one from my family ever yelled or disrespected anyone within your staff, please stop posting false information to make yourself look like an upstanding citizen. My daughter has been going to Marley's for almost a year and absolutely loves it! She is in love with every single one of the teachers and never cries when I drop her off. She always runs to play with all of her friends and the teachers. She has learned so much as well! It seems like they always have some sort of fun activity and pizza parties for the birthday kids. IMPORTANT REVIEW..... I have left a review before, but I update my gratitude for this amazing experience. Both of my daughters went through Marley's, one cut short due to Covid end of Feb. She was just assessed by a private teacher to see if she has hit all the benchmarks for incoming Kinder. This was also to place her with other children at her education level in small learning pods for distant learning until in person school resumes. She tested above grade level and the teacher couldn't believe the site words Marley's had already worked on. She mentioned most of the other preschool's don't introduce site words in Pre-K. I am really shocked by the recent one star reviews of this great preschool. Here is my experience: My two boys have attended Marley's Preschool Sunset Beach since 2012. My oldest is now a first grader at our local elementary school and my youngest is about to graduate from Marley's and go on to kinder this fall. Both started preschool when they were 2 1/2 years old. My husband and I toured the preschool before enrolling and were immediately impressed with the warmth of the staff and the cleanliness of the entire site. This was the first preschool I visited that didn't smell like a giant dirty diaper. Five stars for that alone. From the start, Amber was informative and clearly expressed that this is an academic preschool. If you are looking for a Montessori or co-op environment, then this would not be the right fit for you. Volunteer parents are not expected, nor encouraged. The teacher-student ratio is one of the best in the area. The daily schedule is organized and appropriate for children of this age. Assessments are done throughout the school year so you can track your child's progress. In addition to academics, the children learn Spanish, sign language, music, dance, gymnastics, and Bible is optional. There is a computer lab and access to iPads. The outdoor play area includes a garden and shaded area. Potty training is offered. One of my favorite things about this preschool is how they provide everything. All you have to pack for your child is a blanket and an extra set of clothing. The school provides water bottles, snacks, breakfast and lunch. Nap cots and sheets are provided and washed by the school. School and craft supplies are also provided. There are special events throughout the year including a Halloween costume party, Thanksgiving pot luck and animal petting zoo, Christmas performance where the kids sing and dance and an end of the year graduation performance. In the summer, fun activities include beach days, pool days, shave ice days, magic show and tide pool visit. I have never witnessed any of the staff, Amber or Matt be inappropriate or speak harshly to any child as alleged in some of these Yelp reviews. One hour timeout? I have never heard of anything like that ever happening. Ever. The only downside to all this greatness is that it is not cheap. You get a lot, but you pay a lot. This is a business after all. Not a charity. Overall, my kids learned to be independent and social at Marley's. Two important traits to have before going to elementary school. We feel lucky we are part of the Marley's Preschool and readily recommend it to anyone looking for an academic preschool and willing to pay for all that the school offers. read more

This place is even more fantastic! They started using an App called "Brightwheel" that allows you to check your child in and out but most importantly it updates you throughout the day on your child. It tells you when they eat, if they napped and when they've been checked in or out...but my favorite are the pictures you get of your child doing school work, or playing. I made a Yelp account solely to leave this review. I made an appointment to tour the preschool, there are few places that have availability, most respected childcare centers are full and have long waiting lists, especially now in covid times, but it's clear to me now why this one has availability and no waiting list! . My appointment was at 530pm. After finishing my 12 hour shift I arrived on time and was told by Amber that she was finishing up with the tour before me and would be just a minute. 18 minutes later, at 5:48 I flagged her her down, as she was still chatting with the family scheduled before me, to tell her I would need to reschedule because I needed to get home to my kids. She rolled her eyes and said your appointment was 530 to 6, again it was 5:48, and said she could get me out by 6. 2 things, 1) I don't want to rush a tour of a facility that my child will possibly be attending 2) The family prior was still touring. I said no, I need to reschedule and she became hostile and dismissive telling me to call when I had more time. I then told her that I didn't appreciate her combative demeanor and that I would not be coming back. She said "Good, I don't think we'd be a good fit". Amber, who is apparently the owner/director, is a nasty, rude woman and I would never allow her anywhere near my children. Her response to me wanting to reschedule my appointment due to her lack of respect for my time was insane. Thank God she showed her true colors. She made it very clear that she would be a nightmare to have to communicate with if issues ever came up with my daughter. Side note: besides masks, no covid precautions seemed to be in effect for tours. I was not told to sanitize my hands, was not asked any health questions, no social distancing and was given past yearbooks, with childrens first and ladt names in it, to touch and look through. read more

I was told by some friends who took their kids here and I have not been disappointed. The kids have a blast and my 2 year old is loving it. My twin daughters attended Marley's Preschool from 2 1/2 years old until they graduated to move on to kindergarten. This school was the perfect fit for us as it was very balanced with academics, religious studies, creative play, field trips, etc. In my option it is worth EVERY penny. The experience it gives the children and preparation for elementary school is great. The entire staff felt like family the way they treated my daughters and myself. Everyone at Marley's truly have huge hearts, amazing patience and are some of the most kind people I have met. My daughters loved everyday they got to attend Marley's and still reminisce about all the good times they had there every time we drive by. We love, love, love Marley's Preschool and so do both of my children. As a teacher, I was very picky when looking for a preschool to send my own children to. My husband and I were welcomed into Marley's and given a tour. Everything was very clean and organized. I loved that they had new technology for the children to use. I also love that the kids get a very well rounded experience while there. They are not only taught academics, but also music, sign language, dance, and P.E. The teachers are fabulous and excited to be there and they genuinely care for all of the kids. They have always worked really closely with us to provide great structure for our kids. My first child had the normal experience of being a little upset when I would drop him off and I ALWAYS knew he was in the best hands and loved. The teachers and director are very efficient and good at communicating with the families. They have also helped both of my boys potty train. My second child was SO happy when it was finally his turn to go to school with his big brother! My eldest child is continually challenged by his teacher and has an absolute love for learning because of the foundation the teachers and director have created. He will be starting kindergarten in the fall and is MORE than prepared! They work hard to maintain a menu consisting of a variety of healthy foods that most of the kids like. We have just completed 3 amazing years at Marley's for my daughter. We now miss every aspect of the school! The incredible staff to the spectacular environment, ending with what was just such and undeniably right development decision for my daughter. Words cannot explain what a horrible place this is. This school should be shut down and Amber should have her license taken away. This woman has no business around children let alone teaching them. The teachers, and most of all Amber, are mentally and verbally abusive to the kids. My husband and I have both witnessed it first hand. My daughter was 3yrs old at the time she attended. They have extremely harsh punishments like timeouts lasting for an hour. They lecture the children if they have done something bad, saying things like "you are such a bad girl" and "you are going to be in so much trouble when your mom gets here". One time at drop off the receptionist told my daughter she was being bad and not a good listener right in front of me because she was crying when I was leaving. Another I was called to pick her up at 9am (after only being there 30 min.), told she wasn't allowed to go on their field trip and was to be dismissed for the day for hitting another classmate while they were playing with toys. We were still charged for that day btw. I could go on and on with the weird and abusive things that happened during my daughters short time at Marley's. Luckily it wasn't more than a few weeks. The damage they did lasted quite awhile and with a lot of love and a great new school (Patti's in Seacliff), she is doing amazing. Save your child the abuse and long lasting effects of this place and chose a different school. read more

in the beginning i was so impressed with this preschool and so happy to finally find a preschool for my child. unfortunately, the honeymoon phase faded quickly & i discovered that i was disappointed in marley's preschool mainly because of how amber the school director & owner conducts and communicates. on several occasions when i addressed my concerns to amber, her communication style was very aggressive, hostile, combative, argumentative, accusatory, bullish, disrespectful, tyrannical, condescending & judgmental. she made it very uncomfortable to approach her with my concerns. she may have a degree in psychology but she completely has no PR skills in dealing with people. she is not a good listener and makes off the cuff comments without weighing her words carefully. marley's preschool is not cheap and i don't believe in supporting anyone if they lack professionalism and have little respect for others. if this is how she deals with me as an adult, i can only imagine how she's dealing with the children under her care & guidance. it simply makes me shudder. i strongly recommend that parents keep looking elsewhere for another preschool. read more

We highly recommend Marley's. Our 3.5 yr old has been attending this preschool since he was 2.5 yrs old. He's in his second year now. We love all of the teachers and staff members, especially since they are so good with their communications. Amber, the director, is super caring and sweet. My son has thrived and developed so much here. We credit Marley's in how much confidence he's gained in his speech (we thought he may had a delay, but they reassured us it was all normal and they were right). The best part since it made parenting just a bit easier... My daughter has improved so much socially, mentally and personally since starting this school. She is more independent putting her toys away and cleaning up after herself, learned all of her letters and writes her name, and to top all of that she is making better decisions just in general. She comes home daily happy and always singing or dancing a new song or dance she learned that day at school. The art projects they do are super amazing and I love that she is able to have her creative side blossom with her mind. The teachers are always so sweet! Ms. Tracy is my daughters teacher and my daughter and I both love her. Ms. Tracy goes that extra mile I feel for her students and always makes time to answer any questions I have. Besides normal academics they have music, dance, sign language, computers and bible class (optional) incorporated with the cost of tuition. The food they feed the kids is actually healthy homemade. I recently moved to Sunset Beach, CA as a newly single father of two. My three year old son, Buster, was pretty anti-social, stubborn, and insecure. I decided that preschool was a good idea to break him out of his funk. Luckily enough, Marley's was right down the street and, after some time, two openings opened up for him. From day 1, when I brought the boy in and there were these wonderful smiling faces from all of the staff, I knew that this was the place for him. Not a tear was shed as I left him in the capable hands of Miss Melody and all of the ladies at Marley's. Since that time, there has not been an instance of concern about the safety or attention given. Buster has totally blossomed and I can not help but think that the staff at Marley's is partially responsible for that. In addition, Amber (who runs the show), has taken extraordinary measures to communicate with the parents on a near weekly basis. The Thanksgiving dinner and Christmas show were amazing in building a sense of community and family. Watching all of these pre-k kids at the Christmas show standing in front of hundreds of parents and friends singing and dancing made me wonder just what these ladies do to inspire all of the children. We were impressed with the online marketing, student to teacher ratio and closeness to our home but unfortunately the positive commentary ends there. Due to my work schedule I no longer could have him attend Tutor Time in Newport Beach (which was very close to my office). Instead we had to find a preschool closer to our home so we enrolled him in Marley's. However, in only a few weeks it has become evident that this was the biggest mistake we could have made and have pulled him from the preschool for his well being. Our son previously had attended Tutor Time for well over a year and had an amazing time with all the staff and adminstrators. We loved his expereince there as they provided us with daily written reports outlining his mood, eating and sleeping habits, highlights or struggles of the day. However, at Marley's we received no such daily feedback. From a staffing and adminstration perspective the school lacks the experience, education, capacity and overall professional polish that we received for over a year at Tutor Time. Logistically, the hours are inflexible and parking incredibly limited (although parking is more a product of us being in a beach community). In the end, if you value the well being of your child/children I would avoid this place at all costs. read more

My daughter attended Marley's preschool for pre-K. The staff was always warm, welcoming and pleasant. They also were very informative and communication was excellent. The school goes above and beyond in many areas! I was so impressed by the cleanliness, nutritious on-site cooked meals, cohesive staff and amazing extra-curricular activities. I am a professor of pediatric nursing/a pediatric nurse practitioner and I can't emphasize enough how positive socially, developmentally and academic the preschool was for my daughter. Amazing preschool. period. We love Marley's preschool. My sons started at age 2, my younger is starting 3rd year there and my older was there 3y as well and "graduated" last year from Marley's. Both of them flourished there in their academic and social skills. The preschool has a perfect balance of play times and learning times. They have "learning" periods of dance, ipads, learning and music. They have cool toys, playground and beach days. Special events through the year like Halloween party, Bunny party....where you get to know the parents, staff better. All teachers are amazing, kind, passionate about little kids and you can tell because your kid loves them to pieces and talks about them all the time. My son has severe allergies and they are extremely good about keeping him safe. They provide healthy snacks, lunch and have pizza parties for kids on their birthday. I had high hopes for this preschool, however was quickly disappointed to find it only operates as a business and not a caring and nurturing environment for young kids. I had my son there for just shy shy of three months and it was three months too long! Not ONCE did he ever come home saying he had a good day nor was his behavior that of a fun day at preschool! He dreaded the thought of going every time we drove as well! I am grateful I went with my mother instinct and got out when we did! I realized that Amber and the assistant coordinator, Miss Kylie, have no tolerance and customer service attitude towards parents which is surprising considering the type of "business" they are in! It is strictly run as a that and nothing more. I also am a parent with a childhood education degree and would strongly urge you to not send your child here! We were very impressed with Marley's at first, but quickly came to the realization that Marley's is a joke. I would think twice before sending your children there. They use very negative reinforcement and isolate children when they act up. I even witnessed them kicking a child out with no warning in front of his parents and all the child could say was "Im going to miss preschool" and crying. Tell me that wont scar a child. Both of my boys attended Marley's preschool a few years ago. My experience is that this place is only about making a money. They do a lot for kids, but you need to pay extra for everything. And that's the reason they do it. Every single thing they do they ask YOU to pay for ( Christmas party, Thanksgiving party, petting zoo, Halloween party, ice cream party... ) You end up paying regular tuition ( high enough as it is ) plus extra $50 - $100. I was shocked when I was asked to pay regular weekly charges for a week they were closed ( between Christmas day and New Year's Eve ). I called and asked why am I charged when THEY decided to close the school . I was told that they need to pay their teachers something extra for Christmas. SERIOUSLY ? If you decided to pay bonuses to your teachers you should pay it out of your pocket. I am a business owner as well and if I want to pay bonuses to my employees I'm not asking my customers to pay for that. Also my experience with teacher was not very good. Some of them were nice, but some of them were very rude. I remember dropping off my crying son one day. I set with him at the kids table for a while to make sure he's fine after I leave. One of the teachers looked at him with terrible attitude and said :"Why are you still crying ? You'll go home in a few hours ! She ( me ) is leaving soon !" I was not very happy about that. I would be much nicer to say :"Hey do you want to see the picture we are going to color today " or " Can you help me to set up the table for your friends" or ...... ??? I think their teachers are just bunch of young girls without any experience with teaching or having their own kids. Marley's is an absolute gem! The love, compassion, and learning that goes on here is like no other preschool we toured...and we toured a lot! We started here when my son was a little over two. Our first preschool experience did not go smoothly and we realized it just wasn't the right environment for our son to thrive in. The moment we toured with Amber, we knew we found the right fit for us. Not only is she friendly and professional, but she is as accommodating as it gets. . I don't know of any preschool that allows make-up days - this is such a blessing! Miss Tamara has made such an impact on our now three-year-old's life in so many ways. She has taught him how to be confident and comfortable with other kids in social settings, while also helping him tremendously with his numbers, shapes, and colors. She played a big role in our son's potty training and we are so appreciative. She, along with Marley's other teachers and aides, are so patient and loving. The combination of free play, arts and crafts, dancing, singing, and academics has allowed him to blossom on all levels. The school is bright on the inside and outside, clutter-free, clean, and I love that they have fish and turtles. I interviewed over 10 schools before finding Marleys. I left a deposit before I even toured the school. That's how sure I was that the school was absolutely a perfect fit for my two kids. The teachers go above and beyond to care for my kids and their daily activities are extraordinary. The teachers and directors have always made themselves available if I have any questions. The Director has even called me back at 9 p.m to ensure I had information I needed. We have schools in our local area but drive over 30 minutes to marleys and its absolutely worth it. My husband I moved from Seattle back to Long Beach in 2007. My daughter Amelia was ready to start preschool, but every preschool reoccomended to me had a waiting list a mile long. Then along came Marley's and it was like a dream come true. I found them through an Internet search and called immediately. My call was promptly returned by Amber and the information she gave me over the phone was exactly what I had been looking for in a preschool both socially and acedemically. I took the tour and was thouroughly impressed with the program and the new ideas Amber expressed. Amelia started the day they opened and became a proud member of their first graduating class. The staff was always warm and welcoming and there was never a day Amelia wasn't happy to attend. Amelia still misses her teacher, Miss Christy and thinks of her often. My daughter was one of the 1st students at Marley's preschool and we fell in love with the school and the staff. The teachers are all so loving and kind to everyone. The Director, Amber, is professional, caring, loving and easy to talk to. I can't say enough about this school. I don't entrust my children with just anybody, and I feel confident in the care my children receive at Marley's Preschool. I can leave them knowing I don't have to worry. I love the facility and all the extra activities that they provide for the children. Another perk is that the kids are fed breakfast and lunch. For me with a hectic schedule that is a definite bonus, knowing that my child is getting 2 square meals without having to pack it myself. When my daughter graduated and moved on to kindergarten my son was old enough to ask when he can go to the "little red school", his words. He is currently enrolled at Marley's preschool and nothing has changed. The quality of care and the peace of mind I have knowing my child is in the care of Marley's preschool is priceless to me and my husband. When my middle son graduates my youngest is in line for enrollment, and he will also be a student at this school. I recommend Marley's preschool 100% to anyone that values education in a loving environment for their children.
