Tomorrow will be my kiddo's last day at Beth David. I would have kept him for another year in their TK class but my hubby insisted we put our kid in a dual immersion program in our neighborhood. It's not hard to make the argument to keep our kid here another year--our child has had exceptional schooling here and with the student ratio of 7:1 I felt our monthly tuition of $990 was well worth the "private school" education and attention. We had our kid here for 3 years! When our child was 2 (we were waiting until his 2nd birthday) we brought him here when he was in diapers. I've followed the teachers' lead on potty training, and their philosophy is more child-focused, so waiting for the kiddo to initiate. Seeing his peers use the toilet finally got him interested, at age 3.5 (a real late bloomer) but that never phased the teachers. This daycare has such a diverse student population--even though this is Jewish daycare it's really a neighborhood daycare. I think only 2 students in my kid's class are Jewish, so it's really amazing to see it like the United Nations lol. At age 3 they go on field trips like Tanaka Farms, and if you keep your kid in the TK class there's a field trip every month! The school organizes a sweet Mother's Day tea time to celebrate the female figures in the kiddo's life, and I'll always remember my first Mother's Day event I was just touched by all the organizing involved. In the age 4 group there are more classes for the kids like cooking, music, science, and physical education. They've made french toast, cupcakes; in science class they made vanilla ice cream, a volcano with lava running, grown lima beans. In PE they are introduced to lots of different sports , and in music different instruments. During the pandemic they were quick to organize and be awarded some Biden infrastructure money to remodel parts of the campus, like flooring and the kitchen. They are very good about security. There are 3 codes you must know to get into the parking lot, the security door to the campus, and the door to the daycare. There are cameras as well. It is unfortunate that anything Jewish has to have more security than other religious institutions but at the end of the day, you get use to it and feel that your child is safe there. With the 2023 shootings at Jewish buildings throughout the country, the Westmister police patrolled Beth David regularly and the school kept the parents abreast of the situation until the paranoia died down. Teachers are effective and caring. Inquire on space and consider yourself lucky if you get a slot. read more

We love this school! My son started in January and loves coming. He had a rough month or so in the beginning, as I'm a work from home mom and he's spent his whole life with either dad and I or his grandparents. But each day Ms. Becky would reassure me that he's doing great. All the teachers are patient, wonderful, caring and communicative! They're very understanding of "toddler behavior" and are quick to comfort a child that's having a hard time during drop off....I know this first hand lol. We appreciate our son's teacher Miss Becky who approaches her class with patience, care and safety! Out of nowhere, he just started singing the days of the week, and he'll sporadically sing songs that they sing in class. It's so sweet and I can tell he's absorbing so much! This is an amazing school! My son was so anxious and cried a lot for the first two weeks of school. The teachers were extremely patient and nice. Now he loves going to school and always tells me that he is happy there. He started to have some inappropriate behavior after he got comfortable there (pushing other kids to play), then Ms Brooke took him to her 3-4 year old class and asked the older kids not to push him back when he pushed them. In her class, my son observed how to play appropriately and he picked it up quickly. I really appreciate how they teach him and reinforce the positive behaviors. The delta variant is surging now in the area. I was concerned and made my son to wear masks everyday. The teachers are very helpful and make sure he is masked up all the time. I do not want him to take his masks off so I pick him up earlier rather than having lunch and taking nap at school. Talk about an amazing, safe, and educational school to take your child to! If your debating, this is, hands down, the best school for your little one! I am a NICU mom who almost lost her son's life due to extreme prematurity. Due to my rough pregnancy story I am very particular and picky where my son goes to school. I am also a school teacher who seeks a place to challenge my son academically as well (Just like all parents). I met the director, Brooke, the teachers and staff and they honestly love your child like their own and they have the very best interest for you and your child. The staff is by far an amazing awesome team!!! Also, academically, my son came home saying new words like "cornucopia", identifies all the letters in the alphabet and talks in complete thought/sentences. There really aren't enough words to express how much we love this school! Our little one just graduated after 3.5 years there, and I feel like my heart broke a little. I'll miss it so much. I have been meaning to review TBD for some time now, and finally a have a minute! My son has been at this school for 2 years now, and we feel so at home at this school--and with the awesome staff! We are not Jewish, but that doesn't matter. There is so much diversity at TBD, and the class sizes are manageable. I know my son is getting the attention and early education he deserves. A few things that stood at about TBD when searching for a preschool: 1. They take 2 year olds -- in diapers! 2. The place is super secure with coded gates and security cameras 3. The school isn't too big, but also not small. In our experience, class sizes range from 6-16 students. Great for getting to know everyone! 4. There is a real sense of community at TBD 5. Very reasonable pricing! Check out the forms and fees link at the bottom of the homepage. The staff does an amazing job at keeping parents involved and kids engaged, and is always communicative. I am pretty shocked by reviews that say otherwise. I know that when it comes to kids who are hard to manage, TBD does the best they can to work with those kids and parents--even recommending intervention (speech therapy, etc.). I think it's the parents who are unwilling to explore those options that end up unhappy, and blame the school for their child not excelling at this school. Our 4 year old has blossomed at this school, and he LOVES it. We look forward to enrolling our youngest as soon as he turns 2! I highly recommend checking out this early learning center! read more

Temple Beth David (TBD) ECLC is a fantastic pre-school. I have had 2 children attend this preschool since 2009. My last child recently graduated to Kindergarten. The hardest part of the school is saying goodbye. This school was able to work with me as I transitioned from stay at home mom to back to work mom. Knowing your kids are in a loving and fun environment eases the heart. Both my children left reading at high levels, can count well past 100, speak some spanish. This school is diverse and have families from many backgrounds. When my eldest child was in Kindergarten our new school informed us that her learning was at a high level and asked us to think about moving her up a grade. I know it is because of TBD that she learned so so much. TBD provides Fun Times for the kids which include spanish, science, cooking, tumbling, Playball. My youngest daughter had speech issues and the staff at TBD was always asking me for progress updates and giving me ways on how I can help my daughter at home. These teachers all care so deeply for the kids. Mrs. April even handouts her home phone number and cell phone to all the parents in case they ever need something! She is always there! The PRE-K class also gets introduce computer and began working on finger placement on the keyboard with the keyboarding without tears program. I don't think there is a better pre-school around. The prices are very reasonable for the area and for the amount of learning each child receives. TBD will always have a place in our hearts!!!! read more

My son attended two years at Temple Beth David Preschool prior to going into Kindergarten this year. I am blown away at how much he learned in his two years at this school. He left the preschool's Preppy K (Pre-K) class knowing his sight words and was reading level I reading books. His Kindergarten teacher even commented during our beginning of the year parent-teacher conference that he already knows everything that is required of him throughout the remainder of the school year!!! The size of the school is wonderful, it has an intimate feel and you do not feel lost in the shuffle. My son's class size was around 10 to 12 kids each year and there were two teachers in each of his classes. The facility is clean and safe. The staff is super friendly and phenomenal with the kids. Every single teacher at this school takes pride in what they do and really treat the kids as if they are their own. There are after school activities that the kids can participate in, such as cooking, Spanish, science, and gymnastics. This is a high academic school with an emphasis on reading and math. After my son's first preschool year, he knew the entire alphabet and could write his name legibly. After his second year before going into Kindergarten, he was reading books by himself. There are weekly homework assignments. The kids bring home a manila envelope and return the completed work every Thursday. There is also a Reader Rabbit program. Each book a child reads or is read to them gets logged into their Reader Rabbit and prizes are distributed for every 10 books read. It peaks the children's interest to read more. The Preppy-K class also takes a field trip once a month. Field trips include the La Mirada Theater, the El Dorado Nature Center, the Cerritos Library, and the Long Beach Aquarium to name a few. These field trips excite the kids with hands on experiences and spark their imaginations outside the classroom. The Preppy-K class has a computer where the kids start to get familiar with the keyboard and mouse. By the end of the year, each child knew how to click with the mouse correctly and could easily locate letters on the keyboard. The school is affiliated with the Temple and therefore the Rabbi gets to pop in and interact with the kids every once in a while including major holidays. The kids get to read directly from the Torah in the sanctuary at the beginning of the year. There are two performances put on by the students, one for Chanukah and the other for Passover. There is also an awesome Preppy-K graduation ceremony at the end of the year for the 4 year old class. The school also encourages parent involvement if you are so inclined. I was fortunate enough to be able to attend each field trip and assist inside the classroom as a volunteer. There is a large sense of community at this school. Most parents know each other by name and by the end of the year we felt like one large family. Safety was a main concern of mine when researching preschools. The school is located in a neighborhood and not off of a major city street, which was important to me. The Director of the school is very easy to talk with and encourages communication. I felt that my son was in great hands while he was there during school hours. I have a 5 month old who I cannot wait to put through this school when she turns two. I would put her on the waiting list now if I could! I have friends with kids at other preschools in Orange County that speak very highly of Temple Beth David. It has a great reputation at other preschools, which is nice to hear. It is definitely worth taking a tour to see if this school is a right fit for you! read more

I'm happy to say today was my sons final day at temple Beth David. What started off so promising slowly changed. My son started Sep 2014 just turned 2.He has a speech delay bc he couldn't hear very well bc of ear infections.being there a month we were told if he wasn't speaking in about 5 months they recommended therapy.Dec 29 2014 we had tubes put in once after finding a doctor who said he needed them.Of course it was day and night difference and our son began to repeat words and made new noises.After speaking with the director saying he is improving she failed to notice any improvement. How could there be 0% improvement ?I again ignored her remark.Feb came around and I found out I was pregnant knowing I would need to increases day of attendance immediately bc my first pregnancy I was extremely ill I was told that in order to be considered for extended time and days at the school I would need to have my son evaluated as they believed my son had behavioral and speech delay.First off I didn't appreciate the ultimatum having my son go through being evaluated and ridiculed in order to pay that's cool more money to have my son there longer. Knowing I had no other choice I contacted the regional center and went through the proper channels to have my son evaluated professionally. He was referred to love to learn to be evaluated he was in a room with four therapist evaluating him and behavioral in speech and find motors occupational. It was conclusive by all these therapists that my son had no issues and was considered average. I then contacted Vanessa the director to let her know what was reported.She was not satisfied with the results of the test stating that there was no issues with my son and then suggested a second evaluation be followed through I felt pressured and upset. I told her that I was not going to do a second evaluation I felt confident in the evaluation that was performed and if she knew anything about the test she would know that they were standardized test and the only way that it would be different is if I answered my questions differently. Keep in mind when telling me that I needed to have my son evaluated she failed to tell me any of the issues that he was having in school. Every day like most parents ask my son's teacher how his day was when picking him up I have never been told that there was an issue with them other then he was a bit fussy. The director took fault in the lack of communication and said that they would be giving me daily progress reports and my sons behavior. Just recently I got three weeks worth of progress reports that are supposed to be daily starting from April 1.Tell me how is this going to help improve my sons issues if I'm not getting the proper info in a timely manner he's two years old I can't reprimand him for something he did three weeks ago.Now as for getting evaluated so I can extend his days and times at preschool once I did that and reported back to Vanessa the director of the school and after telling her I wasn't going to do a second evaluation she stopped answering any and all emails in regards to my son and the help that I needed with his times and days at school.Are you even stated that there was an emergency with my health that I needed to extend his days from 3 to 5 days from park to full time being told that this was something that I could do months ago.I've been in the hospital for my condition for days at a time and on homecare weren't connected to an IV I have to pay people to help me bring my son to school and pick him up which the school knows and the teacher knows this is what I'm doing I've asked them to tell me if they're going to allow me to extend his days or if I need to get a nanny and I got not one email again from Vanessa even giving me The common courtesy to tell me no I sent 4 to 5 emails and haven't documented every conversation we've had she only responded to when it was convenient to her in regards to payment but would never again answer any of my questions and having my sons days extended.So ultimately I emailed her saying I would like to withdraw my son from her school and asked what I needed to do for the proper documentation she replied simply with all we need is two weeks notice I will take this as your two weeks notice not even know I'm sorry this didn't work out or is there anything we can do an apology for not responding to any of my emails in regards to my emergency.It is disgusting how Vanessa treated us and our son and how unprofessional she was.Also the school lost my son one day!They called me up telling me they had an incident at school and my son was in the principals office and I had to pick him up that he went missing.I asked what happened and they said he left the classroom and couldn't find him!Then told me I had to pick him up because he wasn't taking time out seriously?He was able to walk out the classroom with out his 2 teachers seeing him and went into the janitors closet that wasn't locked and it's his fault? read more

All 3 of our kids went through this amazing preschool! Currently they are 12, 8 and 5. I toured about 5 preschools when we were deciding on a school for our oldest child and Beth David stood out, and not by just a little bit. We had zero hesitation with enrolling her, not even concerned that we were not a Jewish family. Our children had a structured but extremely fun and loving pre-k education. They learned to maintain manners and behaviors taught at home. We enjoyed the many field trips incorporated into the curriculum. The art work they participate in is unreal! For example, giant (super giant) Orca whales that the KIDS paint! All 3 of my kids were so proud of all their accomplishments every day when we picked them up! I have recommended this preschool to friends and none of them were disappointed. I encourage anyone to tour or experience the environment first hand. I love this school so much! My older daughter has been at Temple Beth David Preschool for the last two years, first for their 3 year old class with Miss Vanessa (who is also the school principal) and currently for their pre-K class with Miss April. This school is a wonderful learning environment that focuses on each child as an individual to get them prepared for Kindergarten and beyond. The class sizes are small and there is one teacher and one aide for each class. My daughter was initially tearful and clingy. Miss Kristiana, the aide in Miss Vanessa's class, spent an hour and a half the first day just hugging her outside to help calm her down. After a couple of weeks of transition (where the teachers were as kind and gentle as one could hope for), she was excited to attend school each morning. The teachers were matter-of-fact about the transition period, letting me know that it happens every year, and their patience was exemplary. The three year olds learn the alphabet and the numbers through 20. Each week there are adorable art projects that come home, and so many are worthy of being saved. There are science projects (learning what floats, making snow), holiday performances (including a Hanukkah performance at Leisure World), lots of creative work and individual attention. The four year olds all learn to read by the time they finish Miss April's class (this year's students are all reading and it's only February). There are weekly homework packets to practice handwriting, a reading backpack (once your child is reading, Miss April will read a new book with them daily and then your child will practice reading the book at home), sight words to memorize (at each student's pace), and even an online computer program to get them comfortable with using a computer. It sounds like a lot of work but each child works at her own pace and is excited to learn. It doesn't hurt that there is a treasure box of prizes as incentive. Miss April and her aide Miss Brooke really understand how to teach, and they make sure that all their students are going to be confident learners for Kindergarten. There is a field trip at least once a month to exciting places like Tanaka Farms and the Long Beach Aquarium. We are not Jewish and have found it wonderful to have our daughter come home and teach us words and songs we didn't know. She has made many wonderful friends and the community of parents is also wonderful. There are weekly afternoon programs (science, cooking, gymnastics, sports) as well as a summer program. The three year olds must attend a minimum of three half-days (9 to 12:30) a week; the four year olds must attend five half-days a week; childcare is also available before school and in the afternoon. There is also a class for two year olds run by ever-patient, cheerful, and indefatigable Miss Susan. Miss Lizette teaches the other class of older two year olds, as well as Spanish to the four year olds. I feel lucky to have found a place like Temple Beth David with such caring teachers like Miss Vanessa, Miss Kristiana, Miss Susan, Miss Lisette, Miss Brooke, and Miss April. My daughter is more than prepared for Kindergarten, academically and developmentally, thanks to these teachers! read more

This is a fantastic preschool. The school is very safe, and I always felt comfortable leaving my young children there. My oldest finished the 4/5 year old class and was extremely prepared for Kindergarten. My younger child, who was always worried about going to school, is excited to be there when I drop her off in the mornings; and not only has she developed a love for learning, she has also made many wonderful friends. The classes are small, so each child can get one-on-one attention. I couldn't ask for a better group of teachers, and I feel very lucky that we discovered TBD!! read more

I have been impressed with this preschool for years. Both of my children went through it and learned the essential social skills, alphabet and numbers. Both of them did an excellent job in kindergarten as a result of this experience. I also appreciate the teaching of Jewish holidays and Shabbat. Both my daughters attended this wonderful pre-school this past school year and my only regret is that I did not find it sooner. My daughter has been attending Temple Beth David's Early Childhood Center since she was 21/2 years old. She will be transitioning to Kindergarten this Fall and I am positive that she will be more than prepared both academically and developmentally thanks to the loving care and top notch programming that she has received there the past three years. The entire staff has been so caring and qualified, and the after school programs have been a favorite with art, music, dance, tumbling, and sport skills to name a few. I found out about this preschool through some very picky mommy friends who did their research to find the right preschool for their children. Sure enough, after visiting other local preschools, it was the perfect fit for my extremely shy 2-year old daughter, who had never been in the care of anyone else except family. The preschool has AMAZING teachers and aides who really care, nurture, love the kids, and teach with their whole heart. The Temple Beth David ECLC community is like a second family to us, as my second daughter is there now. I feel completely comforted knowing that they were/are in good hands. The classrooms are large, clean, safe, and everyone knows each other. There are security cameras and codes to get into the outside gate and building. As an elementary school teacher, I am fascinated by how advanced the curriculum is and how much the children know by the time they leave the 4 year old Pre-K class taught by the FABULOUS Ms. April. They are more than ready socially, emotionally, and academically for Kindergarten, and some are even ready for first grade...all of this is done at a pace that the children can handle since they get a lot of individual attention. We are not Jewish, but like that our children are learning about other cultures and religions. We really enjoy the holiday performances and events (especially the Mother's Day Tea) throughout the year! Temple Beth David ECLC offers before and after school care and different fun times everyday. My daughters have enjoyed Science, Cooking, and Playball after school. During the summer, they have fun themed weeks and water days. After 5 consecutive years of bringing my daughters to this school, I will be very sad to leave it. I love the homemade books and art projects that my daughters bring home.
