I'm going to surprise the world and give a Toyota Dealership a five-star review. It's not because…read moreI loved Toyota vehicles thanks to a Business professor I had at UMass, and it's not because I was advised they break down less by a tow driver. This review is especially not because of Toyota's complicity in bending the knee, or because they financed a loan my family was good for after our last Toyota was totaled. No. I'm going to give Lia Toyota of Northampton a five star review because they were there for us to help us part with our old RAV4 Hybrid SUV after local wildlife died inside. There you have it: grief, and death. All this can happen in what's typically thought of as, 'an asset': your car investment. You're not driving money bags around, you're insulating your family or self within a metal chamber going at speeds that threaten life. Whole industries and lives depend upon fleets of these vehicles traveling to regular destinations, keeping a fast pace, or making long treks. To know that there's death inside your car and somebody needs to get to the bottom of it surprises me in that it only a dealership or auto expert are capable when it's a dead animal. And Lia did so for us. I gave their repair shop grief, imagining that there was some awful coincidence between our car becoming a gravesite after we finished regular maintenance. Instead, with the weather as it is everywhere, cars are where animals will end up as an escape. I probably was not their first distraught customer, a customer not sure of what the world does with an inhospitable vehicle for transport. Lia, who had been doing maintenance on our car for some time and continues to on our new vehicle, held our hand through the process of discovering our loss. They took apart this car piece by piece once they knew there was mechanical failure. What was left was a sad story of loss that Lia traveled with us as we had to lose a vehicle to another natural disaster besides a flood. The amount of humanity and kindness that Nathan and the other staff at Lia showed me they are more than mechanists, they were car doctors for us and the whole industry of automobiles. I can only blame this on hiring locally, and years of expertise within the auto industry. I don't think we're done grieving our loss. I owe it to Lia that I can tell the story to Yelp, since you all are going to bring or buy your vehicle here, with Lia, and I can pray they keep this heart throughout the new developments in used and new auto sales.

She is detail minded and makes sure your vehicle is treated like it's her own. I couldn't schedule with her because of my personal schedule for this 35K service. I had another advisor, Scott. He was friendly, however, not detail oriented. To start, I arrived for an 8:30AM appt. I waited over 2.5 hours for a simple oil change and tire rotation. It was not due for an oil change, but Scott recommended it (Toyota should really and not have us wait every 10K). I thought it would be a good idea since I do tow frequently. I asked how much it was and he said $89. When I got to the waiting room I found a coupon online. I walked back to him and asked it he could apply it. He looked like he had never seen it before, but said yes. They should know about online discounts and tell customers to help offset costs. It was like he was trying to get the most amount of money out of his customers. I told him I had a service maintenance agreement, which only covers schedule interval work, not an extra oil change, which is fine. Well, the paperwork was done incorrectly and he did not deduct the coupon, and I was charged for the tire rotation. He did correct this after I brought it to his attention. The waiting room was packed. Everyone was complaining about how long the wait was for their vehicle. One guy had waited 4 hours total for a tire that was losing 1psi. It took 4 hours to diagnose that? Another couple waited 2 hours for an inspection for their BRAND NEW 4 runner. After 2 hours of me waiting, I went to my advisor to ask about the status. He said "It's almost done" after rummaging through a pile of completed service papers and keys on his desk. Ones that belonged to people waiting hours and could've been rolled out. About another 30 min he said "Almost done" as he zipped by the waiting area. Finally, about another 15 minutes my vehicle was ready. I asked how the brakes checked out. He quickly said they were "in the green." I trusted that. He also said that they filled my tires to the psi setting I requested (45 because I was going to towing my travel trailer shortly after and needed this setting). When I got in the truck, they were only set to 37psi. When I got home, I read over the multipoint inspection report and it showed that my brakes were in the YELLOW. He did not read the paperwork at all. There was no measurement listed for brakes or tires - clearly the fault of the mechanic. I also did not receive an updated window sticker reminding me of the next service appt. I called hoping to speak to the service manager, but he was busy. Another person said he was leaving my name and number on his desk to call me back. 2 business days have passed and no return call. I am towing a 23' trailer and want to know the status of my brakes. This is crucial! I guess I will not know until I bring it in again. They should recheck it for free to give me a measurement. This is not my usual experience here. I will now know to only stick with my usual Service Advisor, Alyssa, who is a rock star. While I may be female, I am very picky about my vehicle in terms of cleanliness, maintenance, etc. My questions to him about my vehicle were slightly brushed aside. Fingers crossed that my brakes hold up for the mountains in VA.

After trying elsewhere and regretting it, we're back because the difference here is real. Desiree in Service was exceptional while helping us with our CR-V that we purchased from another dealer. She was patient, communicative, knowledgeable and made sure nothing was overlooked. She genuinely cared about getting it done right, not fast. The real reason we trust Lia Honda, though, is their Honda-certified mechanic. Absolute beast. The level of expertise, accuracy, and confidence in diagnosing and repairing our vehicle was unmatched. This is what real Honda knowledge looks like -- and it's exactly why paying more here is worth it. Alfredo Settembre in Sales made the purchase of our new Civic smooth and stress-free. Honest, knowledgeable, and respectful -- no pressure, just professionalism. You may pay more at Lia Honda, but you're paying for top-tier expertise, accountability, and peace of mind. We won't make the mistake of going elsewhere again.

1 Star -- Extremely Disappointing Experience…read more We went to this dealership specifically to test drive a Honda CR-V Hybrid. We explained to the salesperson that we have been researching and test driving several vehicles because we are seriously considering our next purchase. We also told him that we have owned 10 Hondas over the years, so we are certainly familiar with the brand and were genuinely interested in the CR-V Hybrid. His response was insulting. He told us that other people had called to test drive the vehicle and that he "can't put empty miles on his cars." We weren't there for a joyride. We are serious buyers doing exactly what consumers should do before spending tens of thousands of dollars on a vehicle--researching, comparing models, and taking them for test drives. We understand that dealerships want to sell their inventory, but treating a potential customer as though a test drive is simply putting "empty miles" on a car is incredibly off-putting. Especially when we specifically explained that we have owned 10 Hondas and were seriously considering another one. We also told him that we are loyal to the dealership where we buy the car. That all of our service is done at the dealership. He stated, "It doesn't mean anything to me, I don't make any money on the service." To which we said, "The owner makes the money." He said, "I don't care because I don't make any money on the service." We have dealt with many dealerships over the years and have never experienced an attitude like this. We simply left. A test drive should be an opportunity for a dealership to earn a customer's business--not make a serious buyer feel like an inconvenience. Based on this experience, we will take our business elsewhere. *Reaponse to Business Manager* No thank you. We have since purchased a new vehicle elsewhere, so there really isn't a resolution to be reached at this point. I shared my experience so other potential customers know what happened and, hopefully, so future customers are treated differently.

If you haven't gone to ARC before and you need to know these guys are old school and will do whatever they can to patch your car together on a budget while educating customers on what you need to do for maintenance to make it last as long as possible. My mechanic John probably doesn't want to it advertised because I get the feeling he doesn't really LOVE fussing with my car these days but I have to say it anyway...Today he put some space-age material on my ancient exhaust and got it to pass inspection when we never thought it would. They bought me another year in this old car. Thanks guys!!

I'm about to put a ding in that score. I went here over my usual guy because I'm a layman and thought maybe brakes required a special skillset. I wanted to get it done right. I brought it in and was told the brake pads- or whatever- are worn down and are pretty much just metal on metal, in the front wheels. The rear brakes aren't great but I could put those off for now. I was told it would cost $550, and that that would mostly be in parts. I grimaced and took the hit. A week later, my brakes aren't working so well. Something about air in the line, everyone tells me, because the pedal depresses almost entirely to the floor before I get any braking traction. I call the shop and describe it. The guy tells me that doesn't sound like air in the line at all, it sounds like the... something, I forget, and it'll need replacing and lots of work. At this point I start to see what's going on here. I say "I'll think about it" and hang up. I brought the car to my usual guy. He says Arc Garage did a crap job and didn't reconnect the hoses correctly and sprayed (something) on the (something), which I was made to believe was a bad move. He asked what they charged and I told him, and he said "Oh, you got ripped off so bad. Oh wow. That was a $200 job." He then told me the fix he'd just done was $50 and to come and get it. I won't be making this mistake again. Also, what the hell Yelp, please don't lead me astray like that.

But, through no fault of his own, when I took possession of the vehicle, he was not available and I had to deal with a woman who I believe was the sales manager at the time (it appears she has since quit, which is a very good thing). She drowned me in a flood of verbiage, nearly all of which was either confusing, manipulative, or irrelevant. She wasted a ridiculous amount of my time, to a large extent because she was running her mouth about her family and other personal anecdotal material that was of zero interest to me and of zero pertinence to the transaction that was supposed to be taking place. I have rarely met someone so utterly incapable of reading a room: despite my polite, yet persistent, attempts to make it clear that I just wanted to complete the sale and be on my way, she continued to run her mouth, about herself, endlessly. To add insult to injury, I got the distinct impression that she truly believed that she was being "charming" and "personable." Worst salesperson ever. I have just discovered that the dealership is closing. No surprise there, the place was clearly a chaotic mess. I have absolutely no intention of having my car serviced at their sister dealership, Northampton Volkswagen. If you are a Volvo or Volkswagen owner, I urge you to look elsewhere for service. Just read the yelp reviews about Northampton Volkswagen-- many, many of which are not just mixed or even negative, but scathing. Efficiency problems, competence problems, honesty problems, personality problems...it's all there in the reviews. There is something very, very deeply wrong. Beware.
