My Stepdaughters wedding was June 7th and I am a little late on this review. My apologies as I am also in the wedding business. I was in charge of the flowers and and decor. Working with Maureen was great! She got everything I was looking for as a designer it was very important. I think we can be a bit more difficult. Everything was perfect! Her crew and chef's were very good. The wedge salad presentation was my favorite on the served meals. The Hoursdourve table turned out great. Mark's Catering catered our wedding reception and brunch the following day. Maureen worked with us to get us what we want served. It was very difficult to get a hold of her during the initial process, but within 3 wks from the event, communication finally began a breeze. They even created a signature plated appetizer of Peruvian ceviche, which was a hit! The taste of the food overall was a solid 4 stars, but I was very disappointed with the servers and extremely dismayed with the cake cut. We had a choice of steak, chicken or fish for each guest. The servers were confused of what plate went to whom despite us providing them with these specifics in advance. Thus, I had to answer several questions during my wedding reception. Most disappointing was the cake. HALF of it didn't get served! They cut TINY portions for each guest, and much of our delicious cake was wasted, and nearly ALL the guests were wishing to have a second slice. In addition , clean up began much earlier than anticipated which instinctively lead guests to think it was time for them to leave. I was not happy with this at all. The brunch the following day, occurred in a timely matter, and the food was excellent. read more

Maureen and her crew at Mark's Catering did an incredible job catering our wedding at a home in Laguna a few weeks ago. They provided flawless service and amazing food and ensured that all of our guests had anything they wanted. My husband is British, so Maureen helped us build a great menu incorporating British food (not all of it is bad) with our fresh, California style food. She created mini-Yorkshire puddings with roastbeef and horseradish sauce as one of our passed appetizers that were awesome. All of the other passed appetizers were phenomenal - especially the stuffed mushrooms and chipotle cheese puffs. We did a family style dinner with beautiful grilled veggies, citrus salad, quinoa salad, chicken, steak and lobster tacos. It was all simply perfect. Mark's managed to serve our 120 guests without a proper kitchen (they were cooking/prepping in the side yard) in a timely and very organized manner and with all of the food still tasting wonderfully. We have also used Mark's to cater two other parties recently - a bridal shower and a birthday party. Again, the food and service were perfect for both! I would highly recommend Mark's Catering to anyone! Not only are they fun and easy to work with, but Maureen is very good at working with and staying on (or under) budget! read more

Passed hors d'oeuvres - Zucchini flowers stuffed with ricotta cheese and deep-fried to a golden brown. They had a delicate flavor of the zucchini flower, creamy ricotta cheese filling, and crisp outer texture made the perfect hors d'oeuvre. Puffed pastry with different fillings like goat cheese is another way of getting a small bite without having the need for utensils. Oysters Rockefeller is a fancy way to serve with tiny little forks while the shell acts as the serving vessel. Charcuterie platter - The perfect assortment of aged, flavored, and smoked cheeses, artful rolls of sliced roasted and cured meats, grapes, and nuts. The perfect bites for a reception where wine is poured. All of the different flavors on the platter will go well with either reds or whites. Carving station - The prime rib was cooked to a medium-rare with great flavor from the herb and salt crust on the outside. Hand-carved meats can be great for a dinner buffet along with turkey as secondary choice for your guests. Buffet entrees - Homemade lasagna filled with a meaty Bolognese sauce and creamy ricotta or cheese or meat filled raviolis bathing in rich marinara or cream sauce are great entrée choices. Desserts - Crème brulee had the perfect custard consistency, not too firm and not too liquidy and perfect brulee on top that crackled with a tap of a spoon. Chocolate mousse was perfectly spiral-piped in to dainty serving vessels and topped with whipped cream and cocoa powder. The mousse had a creamy and velvety texture and wasn't too heavy. Mini fruit tarts were perfectly piped light custard filling in the cutest tart shells. The fruits were ripe and added a natural sweetness. Strawberry trifle had layers of strawberry puree, cake, light custard, and whipped cream. Another light dessert option for the summer or as a secondary choice for the non-chocoholics. read more

This is a great Catering service. Went to a special event and had a wonderful experiences of Mark's Catering services, and food as well. The staff from Mark's were very friendly and they were really professional. On the top of it their food are really delicious. Marks catering did 2 events that were planned for my company last year and they were absolutely fabulous! They made a custom menu working with my limited budget, and the food was delicious and beautiful! Mark's Catering never disappoints! We had them cater our holiday party last year and boy was it amazing! So when it came down to catering an anniversary party for 100+ we knew who to go with. With zero party planning experience, I was lost with how to create a menu, who to go with for rentals furniture and the amount I would need. Not only did Maureen and her team craft a perfect Spanish themed menu (the 9 course tasting was the highlight of my experience) but she came along with me to a couple of rental places to help point me in the right direction. Whatever we needed, Maureen had ready and available. When it came down to the day of the party, Maureen and her team were on time, professional and most of all the food was AMAZING! Mark's catered my wedding for 120 people at a private Laguna Beach residence in October of 2011. After meeting with Maureen and her team for a tasting, my now-husband and I were able to create a custom menu that was not only delicious, but budget-friendly as well. We even had a number of vegan and vegetarian guests to accommodate! Mark's covered everything from the cocktail hour to the to-go boxes of goodies we took with us to our hotel that night. Mark's Catering ruined the food for my wedding. They were an hour and a half late and the food was NOT what we ordered. The beef wasn't fully cooked, the teriyaki chicken had absolutely NO sauce and was basically dry nasty chicken. The asparagus was basically raw and the risotto was not risotto, it was plain white rice with a little cheese sprinkled on it. We had the opportunity to go with the caterer who regularly works with the venue, but went with Mark's because of the food at the tasting. Mark's decided it wanted to pack in two events to try and make money and ended up making the food at my WEDDING terrible. They had one shot and totally blew it. I tried to contact people and was ignored. They are absolutely AWFUL. Spend your money somewhere else, especially if it is important. read more

They are catering a wedding I'm at right now and I barely got my food past 9pm while the others got their food about an hour ago. They were about to cut the cake but half the party did not even get their food yet. Plain and simple, it was a disaster! This could be a one time mess up and I usually give the benefit of the doubt but for something as big as a wedding or milestone event, a "one time mess up" should never happen. I certainly wouldn't want this to happen to any of my events I plan. read more

Mark's did an awesome job for an after wedding brunch. Maureen is so friendly, timely and detail oriented. The food was great, fresh and beautifully presented. Our guests were so impressed with the whole event. Maureen took care of all the rentals and helped me with the menu. The staff was wonderful and at the end of the event I felt like I had known them for a long time. They were super attentive to all of our guests and they exceeded my expectations. I am now planning another event for a birthday and never thought twice about who we would ask to cater it. Mark's catering is a class act! I have used Marks at least a dozen times from birthdays parties to business lunches They always deliver an amazing product for a reasonable price. I can not recall having one event where several people did not rave about food. If you are having any function large or small consider marks they are easily as competitive as less expensive options for a significantly superior product and service. read more

From the second we met Maureen, we felt incredibly comfortable and new that we wanted Mark's to cater our wedding. Through the whole process, Maureen answered all of our questions and was so flexible with our choices. She loves wedding and it really shines in how well they did! The 1 star is because the caterer and chef was friendly. But other than that, this catering company WHOLE HEARTEDLY, SINGLE HANDEDLY ruined our wedding. They completely messed up the orders, that was on the contract. We had to go back and forth with her what seemed like an endless number of times just to finalize our menu of upgrades....when it never changed from the first meeting we had. I also got a candy bar with her. Which I paid per guest....it was gone in the first 30 minutes during happy hour!! Never refilled. Here is the cherry on top. THEY DID NOT FEED THE CHILDREN!!!! We had a specific Children's menu we worked on. Chicken Tenders, Loaded Baked Pototoes, and Steamed Veggies. The kids, after PARENTS arguing to feed their children!!!, - got an undercooked potato with some shreds of chicken. THAT WAS IT. To make any matter worse than it already was.....we had 25 tables of guests. Some guests left because the food was not provided to them past 9pm. I was told from a number of our guests, the food that finally did come out, was COLD....and the service from the wait staff was also terrible (i.e no water refills). Our wedding was basically ruined because of this caterer. We've had to call our guests with children to apologize for their children not being fed properly, as well as call all other guests and apologize for the extremely slow food and bad service. The venue we chose, Monaco Mansion in Orange, is also to blame for this terrible experience (minus the main coordinator who was good), but the catering should have at least done their job.
