    Cream tea 4
    Melissa T H.

What great value in the M & S cafe cream tea for 4 pounds... moist Devon scone, generous clotted cream, choice of jam and tea pot. It was just perfect. Plus there are so many other food options, soup, sandwiches, cakes.... and free WiFi

    The most amazing steak baguettes

The cafe in the basement level of M&S does the most amazing steak baguettes. They are to die for. Lovely medium cooked steak with rocket, mustard and caramelised onion tucked into a lovely fresh baguette. Comes with wedges and a drink for £6. Worth every penny!

On your marks - get set, go! It's only a matter of days before Marks & Spencer unveil their annual January sale and we're talking serious discounts on their clothes and homeware. My tip for the ladies is to head for the Limited Edition Per Una section first then the Lingerie on the second floor. My tip for the gents is to check out their suits, shirts and knitwear. And of course, you'll need to be prepared to elbow any competitors out of the way since the sale usually attracts thousands of competitive bargain hunters! To paraphrase a phrase from the great Gonzales: you snooze, you lose.

I go here all the time to get my currency when going away - let's face it, it's always gonna be a much better rate than dealing with the places at the airport where you're totally reliant on paying their poor exchange prices or using your card every time you're in a foreign country! M&S always get it right in terms of their customer service and the girls are always very friendly and chatty - I don't know how they do their job knowing that everyone who's coming through is off on their hols soon (I'd be far too jealous..) Situated on the very top floor at the back, you do have to wander through a maze of beds and random furniture items to get here but it's so stress free and easy that it's worth it. Just remember to bring ID!

What's with all the hatred? Where is the love? I'm not the biggest fan of M&S and I absolutely hate the adverts but they work don't they? Everyone knows the brand within two seconds of seeing the advert for the first time...don't hate the player, hate the game! But you can't deny there aren't many things more British than M&S. Everything you get is good quality and most of it is reasonably priced. The food is pretty expensive but it is pretty damn good as well...chocolate melting pots....mmmm...! Whilst I'm not a huge fan of the women's clothes as I find them all a bit too old for me, I do love the accessories and the underwear. The menswear is really good, fantastic for people who wear business dress for work as the prices aren't too bad for the quality you get. The home section is great and the candles are a lot cheaper than you find in most places. The location is great too, right in the centre of town at the end of Market Street, sharing the building with Selfridges.

    Beef and haggis pie £3.50

I go to m and s most lunch time especially for hot food as I only get 30 mins for lunch. I really like the deli sector where they have some good lunch selection. I also love shopping around lunchtime when they start reducing meat. I tried Beef&Haggis Pie (£3.50) from M&S Deli. The value is average to a decent cold sandwich. The pie contains a thick layer of short crust pastry. There are also chunks of stewing beef mixed with haggis. It is very meaty pie full with meaty flavour. I really love the taste. However, inside the pie there is no gravy. This dosen't feel right to me. But I would still buy it as it doesn't taste like the cheapo pie you get from the garage. Good Old M & S.

This M&S is the daddy of all M&Ss in a 500 mile radius. Originally knocked down by the IRA bomb back in 1996 this phoenix has risen out of the ashes. Spanning a fair few floors, with everything from televisions to clothes (but mostly clothes). In the basement is the divine foods of M&S, I am a self proclaimed junky when it comes to their sandwiches, ready meals basically everything that is edible. They do everything to a very high standard that just makes it 20 times better than anything you could pick up in tescos or elsewhere. At the same time though these great examples of flavour have a stacked price, but then again you don't get perfection for free. The other floors are compromised of a nice cafe and lots of clothes. At the top I think theres a digital section with some nice gadgets and further in the top corner is a useful foreign exchange for picking up there last minute euro's. The cafe is a nice experience but is often packed with those individuals of a certain age who appreciate its finer qualities so if your a student like me you may feel somewhat out of touch.

    Tomato & basil soup

For a quick lunch the tomato and basil soup with two small bread rolls at £3.50 in the cafe is hard to beat. Plus it tastes very good which is always a bonus. The one thing that always seems to let M&S down is their wifi which I always find difficult if not impossible to connect to.

The food court is big from bakery to deli counter. I like the tea bags, ground pepper and baguette.

Below is my review of the M&S in Ellesmere Port on the Cheshire Oaks which I believe to be the largest one in the area so far. The M&S in Manchester City Center is smaller but I purchased the same foods and had the same wonderful experience: Wow I am literally blown away by this place, it's absolutely gorgeous and they have amazing food! I'm an extremely healthy eater who's visiting from San Diego, California and coming to the UK all you think you're going to have for 2 weeks is fish and chips and sausage and mash. I brought a big bag full of snacks with me and usually go to ASDA or Morrisons when I get here to get some things in for the house. So I landed Friday and tell my Dad who knows I buy everything from Trader Joes and Whole Foods that I need to go to ASDA and he says "oh wait until you go to Marks and Spencer's," and I was thinking a clothing store? I walked up the first aisle and was so happy, they have so much fresh food, things for 1, pre packaged meals that would be great to take to work for lunch, they do a meal deal for 2 that comes with wine. They have delicious vegetables, local grown fruit and tons of novelties like crackers, chocolates and gifts. I needed thing for a fews day, the super green soup I got was delicious and was good for 2 lunches, it was loaded with kale, beans, and edamame...it was to die for and I was so happy to be eating in my normal routine while traveling. I also enjoyed their variety of hummus, the trio one was good but the Moroccan with pine nuts and butternut squash was my favorite. Throughout the aisles they have food from all around the world, Thai, Chinese, Indian, Mexican...you could easily have a fresh meal from every country each night of the week. Now I personally spend quite a bit on groceries, I'm also a single person who lives alone. If you have a family of 4 it's probably not the most cost effective but it would be great to grab fresh things if you didn't have time to make dinner that night and didn't want to do pizza or a mcdonalds! I left Chester to go to Manchester where I visited this location. I'm now en route to London and I hope I'm able to have a 3rd trip to M&S while in the UK!

The ground floor was actually pretty organized this go round but it's really hard to find an employee to assist. One issue is possible because the employees look just like a regular shopper so you are unsure who to ask except the cash register individuals. The escalator going to the second floor was broken, so you will have to walk unless you can get on their elevator. On the second floor they also have self checkout and exchange and return registers. When I was asking an employee a question that was at the exchange/return counter, she was really on edge which I am unsure why. She finally just dismissed me and told me to go to another counter to check out since the self checkout machines cause so many issues. All I needed was an employee code to proceed with taking the locks off. Went up to floor three and the cash register employee that assisted me was so sweet and helpful! Normally I love Zara's for odd and end pieces but this one could work on customer service and working with finding a way to help the layout more shopper friendly.

My mum and sister have often visited the Long Tall Sally in York and remarked on how much bigger the Manchester branch is. The staff are unbelievably lovely and kind - even if you're a shortarse, just go try something on and parade around for a bit as they will shower you with compliments!* The clothes here are expensive by my pauper standards, but they seem good quality and there is a good mix of practical basics and stylish fashion items - I think this shop is a bit of a lifesaver for people who are just too long and tall for high street shops. I now have regular trips to the Manchester store. It is always clean and the clothes are well presented. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. I was also greeted by the friendliest front of house / security I think I've ever met, which was a nice surprise!
