The store is good, it's a fairly large size, over two floors, there is a selection of all sorts of bits and bobs including women's, men's and children's clothing as well as candy, luggage, sunglasses and footwear. You can choose between taking the stairs or the elevator between the floors. Like any TK Maxx, it is pretty much a jumble sale, you find something you like and then realise it's only in one size. Despite this, the store was clean and free of any obstructions and litter so it was easy to pass through. There is a small home section here including some furniture, although if you're looking for homeware in particular, there is a HomeSense (also owned by TK Maxx) at the Trafford Centre just around the corner. The staff in the store seemed friendly enough. There were some items which were heavily marked down from their "original price", but sometimes I just don't trust them. 4* - It's a good store and a useful addition to the retail park.

(Yes, it's early shopping but the dollar has never been this strong against the British pound and I wasn't sure if I'd be back before Christmas). I believe she's originally from Poland, and she truly prides herself in excellent customer service. She could tell I knew nothing about handbags, and she carefully explained to me the style, design, classic vs new, functional, etc. her service was so compelling that I bought one for my Wife. She proceeded to professionally wrap the handbag and also handed me Burberry waters. Weisi at the handbag store in the first floor was also very nice as she also walked me through the items. I was looking for items for my daughters, and we landed on really cool choices. The lady from the Aspinal of London offered to gift wrap the bag and she came bag with it, and my jaw dropped at the sight of an expertly and professionally wrapped present. Kudos to the team. Emma, at the candy and cookies section was another amazing staff member. She immediately assisted me and walked me through the products. She quickly identified that I was Christmas shopping already and after walking me through a selection of traditional British Christmas goodies, she had them wrapped professionally. At my last visit at Selfridge, I was looking for shoes for my daughters, and I did not have a good experience because the staff members refuse to budge from their positions to approach and assist me. When I looked at their direction, they would look away and a pair of youngish ladies even disappeared to the back when I motioned them for help. I visited these sections again and received the same careless responses. Selfridge is fortunate that their staff in the handbag and candy sections execute their jobs with pride and professionalism. The three ladies in these sections helped me setup a good Christmas experience for my Family.

Many people may look at this 1 star and think "what is this guy on about - he knows nothing" but I…read moredo not judge a shop on the premium brands it stocks, I judge Selfridges the same as I would any small independent retailer which is on service, range and prices. Service being the one of paramount importance. I am someone who values service in a store, just like I wrote about of C Aston Tobacconist last week. Perhaps these guys should go to Selfridges and show them how it's done. I went to the Trafford centre today in search of a shaving brush. Not any cheap piece of rubbish, but a good quality genuine badger hair brush. You would think you would get an item of this prestige in a store like Selfrodges, but I could not find anything of the sort. So I preceded to ask the closest member of staff who's dumfounded tone told me all I needed to know. So, I carried on until I found another member of staff, this time male. He pointed me in a direction on the premise that "if we sell them they will be here..." So I trekked to the location.....and nothing. So I then asked another lady who had no idea if they sold them or not. I then went and asked another guy who pointed me in another direction and again, nothing there. Finally I went to find the campest person I could and found someone who fit the bill perfectly. Gay guys often take pride in their appearance so I thought if anyone will know it is him. But again, I was faced with "Erm......" I mean seriously, I know every member of staff can not know every product they sell in a store and maybe a lady would not know about male grooming products, but you would assume guys in a store would know at least if they sold them or not. So no one out of seven, yes seven members of staff that I asked knew for sure, half of which sent me on wild goose hunts. To me this is appalling service. I have worked in stores in my time and if a customer asked me where something was and I didn't know if we had it or not, I wouldn't assume nor 'point them in the direction'. I would say "if I had a hunch, it would be here" and take the customer so they are not left wandering around aimlesslly. So this is why I give Selfridges trafford 1 star. Sheer lack of service, lack of knowledge and lack of customer care is not a business model I admire. I have always hated stores like Selfridges/big department stores of faceless corporations and today was a perfect reminder why. I would add as well that I also could not find any form of male grooming in Debenhams, John Lewis or Selfridges at the Trafford Centre after asking numerous staff in each store. So, you can't say I don't try and support local business because I went out today with a purpose to support local industry but after today all I can say is.......... Thank god for internet shopping!

As mentioned, being an anchor store for the intu Trafford Centre, this branch of Debenhams is quite large, with a fragrance hall as well as a selection of both male and female clothing over the two floors. I'd also like to comment, as this is such a large store in such a busy location, I'm surprised it has only received 15 reviews, most of which being in 2009 and the most recent being in 2011, I'm not going to say all the things that have happened since then, including Gary Lineker being forced to present Match Of The Day in his underpants, following Leicester City's Premier League win, previously dubbed impossible. Moving on to my original review, this is quite a nice store, it is quite large and does look quite modern, but as you go into it, it sadly feels less modern, albeit it does have quite a nice, cool staircase towards the end of the store. Sadly, most of the clothes here just seemed poor quality, and honestly look dreadful, which proves it isn't the most fashionable place to buy clothes, unless you like to buy things which look like curtains and towels. The staff here didn't seem too friendly, they just seemed average. Overall, this store is okay, it is nothing more than that but I sadly feel it hasn't done enough to earn three stars, with one of the only positives being the size and location of the store.

One thing I would say is that it's really difficult to find the escalator to get back up out of the basement floor! I ended up wondering around for five minutes trying to find the bloody thing!

The…read morequality of the food they sell is really beyond dispute and represents great value for money on quality. When there were food scandals here a few years ago like the horsemeat scandal their name never arose. Sure you can go to the other big stores but when you look at the prices they charge for their comparable quality provisions they actually usually charge more than M&S do for their M&S labelled products. Buy cheap folks and buy twice. I only needed croissants, Parma ham, roasted cashews and some of their exquisite Indian meals but I had grandkids in tow so things like Percy pig sweets, banana milk, sugary cereals, doughnuts and fresh baked cookies ended up on the counter. We all then went to the M&S upstairs cafe; adults for cappuccinos and kids for apple juice - before this it would have been to the Starbucks in this vast centre but since they charged me 5p for a plastic cup for iced water (in Portsmouth) I've not been back. M&S provide jugs of water with glasses for free in their cafés - you don't even have to buy anything.

I do find the checkout area to be a little hectic here sometimes, so that makes the app much more useful here. While I do prefer their Manchester Arndale location nearby in terms of item stocked and overall look/feel of the store, this store certainly isn't a bad alternative and I do seem able to get the majority of the items I need when I visit the store. The layout of the store is pretty easy to follow, I like how they've combined the cupboard and fridge "Made Without Wheat" range to be right next to each other, which makes the whole shopping experience much quicker. There are no toilets in store which is rare for a large Marks and Spencer, there are plenty of toilet facilities around the rest of the Trafford Centre though. 4*
