Do you have more money than sense? Does your life feel unfulfilled? Does buying a handbag for more money than a car ease the pain of the fact you have no other purpose? Get down to Selfridges to be ripped off by those who can now buy more handbags than you will ever do....with your silly money.

The lurid clash of so much neon, day glo and pastels as designer brand sits next to designer brand, desperately trying to grab your attention, actually gives Selfirdges the (probably unwanted) look of an inner city nursery- though given the amount of teenage millionaire footballers knocking about this may have been an actual marketing ploy. You're never going to find any truly directional, forward thinking and daring fashion in a department store, but for some this isn't a problem, for some this isn't what fashion is about. For some fashion is all about spending more than anybody else to look the same as everybody else- hence Selfridges.

I don't really love Selfridges either. But it is a fun place to go window shopping. Everyone has weeks where they can't afford anything new but they want to go shopping for a while to escape everything, Selfridges is a perfect place to do that. I could wander round the shoe section in here all day, I absolutely adore shoes and some of the ones in Selfridges are just plain incredible. I suppose it's kinda like some people visiting museums, I know I cannot afford the £410 Jimmy Choos, I probably never will be able to afford them...but I get to go and look at them and even hold them at Selfridges. Rather than coming out and feeling all wistful about how I wish I could own them, I'm more just in awe that I've tried on a pair! I sound like a freak here don't I?! Oh well! Also if you go right to the top level you'll find the concession part of the store where there are things you can afford. You still get to walk out of Selfridge with the big yellow bag, no one has to know what's inside! I also love the food hall in here, really good for unusual food products, I like to buy my mum stuff every so often from here, she loves it!

A mega monster of Selfridges, this stores seems to be a Siamese twin of M&S. Stocking only the finest of everything Selfridges certainly isn't the cheapest of visits. Spread across 4-5 floors? (I forget), they have lots and lots of clothes and perfume and trainers. The basement though is my most favourite place, home to a huge variety of exotic foods. With a sushi restaurant and all sorts of world foods you can find yourself recounting many memories of exotic lands where you first tried whatever your looking at now. Some of these include for me biltong from south Africa a sort of dried meat ranging from ostrich to kudu. For a while as well you could buy ant lollipops with real ants in them and scorpion vodka (basically a bottle of vodka with a dead scorpion at the bottom). Moving on though the bottom floor is jammed full of lovely foodstuffs and retro type things that you have'nt seen for a while. They also have a pretty swish computer corner with lots of macs. Other floors include an extensive perfume, glasses and handbag bit that just has so much crap in it I could barf. Upper floors play host to every variety of designer label known to man including jigsaw, all saints etc etc. Big bucks, big bucks.

Selfridges is generally pretty awesome. Four floors of clothing, jewellery, beauty products, and the amazing food hall down in the basement make up this modern department store. Debenhams this is not. Up in the menswear section there are loads of designer labels like Levis and Ralph Lauren. Each label has it's own little area, so it almost seems like you're visiting lots of small boutiques all under one roof. What's impressive is that they have as much selection of each label as they sometimes do in the actual shops themselves.

A high end department store which is known all over the county for its stylish stores and high end fashion wear and beauty. Its a beautiful store and its always worth a look.

This was the first beauty event I have been to at Selfridges, Me and my mum loved it there were drinks flowing, frozen yoghurt and macaroons going round all night. The counters took part with make overs and giveaways. They should defiantly do more beauty events in the future.

On my visit to selfridges wine shop the assistant Miguel helped me with a gift I wanted to buy, nothing was to much trouble for him, his knowledge on wines champagne or spirits is vast, if you need help go and visit him, it's a small area on the first floor, but very well stocked.

The ground floor was actually pretty organized this go round but it's really hard to find an employee to assist. One issue is possible because the employees look just like a regular shopper so you are unsure who to ask except the cash register individuals. The escalator going to the second floor was broken, so you will have to walk unless you can get on their elevator. On the second floor they also have self checkout and exchange and return registers. When I was asking an employee a question that was at the exchange/return counter, she was really on edge which I am unsure why. She finally just dismissed me and told me to go to another counter to check out since the self checkout machines cause so many issues. All I needed was an employee code to proceed with taking the locks off. Went up to floor three and the cash register employee that assisted me was so sweet and helpful! Normally I love Zara's for odd and end pieces but this one could work on customer service and working with finding a way to help the layout more shopper friendly.

Knowing the Spanish fashion houses makes beautifully tailored clothes to perfectly fit the European figure, I wouldn't even have to try them on. Sadly, I don't have a body like Penelope Cruz and nothing - I repeat NOTHING - in Zara ever fits me!

My mum and sister have often visited the Long Tall Sally in York and remarked on how much bigger the Manchester branch is. The staff are unbelievably lovely and kind - even if you're a shortarse, just go try something on and parade around for a bit as they will shower you with compliments!* The clothes here are expensive by my pauper standards, but they seem good quality and there is a good mix of practical basics and stylish fashion items - I think this shop is a bit of a lifesaver for people who are just too long and tall for high street shops. The store itself is clean and well laid out. * I don't actually recommend you do this - but wouldn't it be lovely if there was somewhere you could go specifically to get compliments? But things have improved dramatically over the last four or five years. The clothes have improved in quality, there is a fantastic selection of basics through to fashion items, items for the beach through to evening wear, items for the young and old. I now have regular trips to the Manchester store. It is always clean and the clothes are well presented. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The changing rooms are spacious with a bench set at an appropriate height for those of us who are blessed with 34 inch or longer legs! What more could a tall girl ask for!

I was also greeted by the friendliest front of house / security I think I've ever met, which was a nice surprise! The items are categorised well and everything feels like it has a place, including shoes upstairs and a beauty / homeware section downstairs with some perfume and candles I can already tell will be a regular feature in any future present buying. Although they seem to specialise in light colours and fabrics, dig around a little and you'll find some beautiful metallics and items more suited to the Manchester weather! If Evelyn's is the most Instagrammable restaurant in the city, & Other Stories is the same for fashion. Excellent natural light and desirable products; hopefully they'll stick around for a while.
