Mark and Spencers has to be a staple for any visit to the UK. First of all i gotta pick up my Percy Pig gummies. Second, who can beat their $5 meal deal where you can pick through an assortment of sandwiches or pastas, a side, and a drink. If you were to add it all up retail, it would probably cost you about $8. The sandwiches are actually really good, my favorite was the chicken avacado with a pesto dressing. For sides i would either pick the crisps or if i want to be healthy then the carrots and hummus. I wish the carrots were crispy though, most of the times they were soggy and limp. This is a great on the go meal or something simple you can easily take back to your hotel if your trying to save a little money. Also for a 2 liter bottle of water for 50 pc, this was a better value than the ones next door at the Sainsbury local. read more

I love M&S and this is a smaller location in Paddington but it has all you need for grab and go or to bring back goodies to folks. Just like the others have said, the triangle boxes of sandwiches are wonderful. The states really needs to do this better. And yes, if you have a Pret a manger in your town, those are good, but M&S far exceeds in quality, freshness, variety and they are more reasonable. Many years ago I first fell in love with the Wensleydale and carrot chutney. It's delicious. I couldn't afford to eat out in London. Our dollar was so bad at the time. I got a lot of street food and M&S. I still do because M& S food is great. No artificial nasties in their food as I can tell. And they will say where the ingredients come from too! The smoked salmon and cream cheese is delicious. Why? The salmon is from Scotland. Of course it's amazing. Other favorites are chicken and stuffing, any cheese sandwich, BLT. They also have prawn sandwiches too. All are very fresh and very reasonable. I also like the bowls. Pasta salad with chicken and basil pesto or honey mustard. The yogurt is wonderful. It's from a farm in county cork Ireland. They seem to make clear where ingredients are from and the food tastes so fresh. Why can't our food BE like this, without costing your whole paycheck? And even then, this still tastes better than any of those places. You can also grab stuff at M&S for an impromptu picnic in the park. Baked goods and cakes too. Breakfast items. They go on clearance in the evening. Stop here for a bite before or after your trip. Bring your own bag or pay 10 p for one. Enjoy! read more

If you're passing through Paddington Station you might need a snack (especially if you poorly timed your trip, the trains are running late, or both are happening to you at the same time). But the food court area can be overwhelming and overrun with people who a) are hurrying up to wait or b) have nowhere to go as slowly as possible. As such, you might think to avoid getting a little nibble and remaining peckish only satiating that grumbling belly once you've reached your destination. Don't do that! Skip the queues and head to Mark's & Spencer's where: a) it's extremely well stocked despite the higher foot traffic B) it's extremely clean despite the higher foot traffic c) it's extremely easy to get in and get out with little to no wait (love those self-scanning checkouts) despite the higher foot traffic Also, unrelated to this specific location, I have a pretty unhealthy love affair with the premade sandwiches by M&S. More so than any other supermarket chains. It's disappointing that our sandwich game is so lacking here in the States, because when I travel to the UK I look forward to those triangle boxes filled with goodness. Anyway, shout-out specifically to the New York Deli Veggie on soft rye bread (made with emmental and cheddar cheeses, veggie slaw, gherkins, sauerkraut, mustard cream cheese, and spinach). Five pounds for a sandwich, bag of crisps, and a soda? You're darn tootin' I'm gonna splurge on that for my train ride to the countryside. read more

Before setting out on a long journey, I think it's highly advisable to stock up on provisions. Not just because train buffets can be unpredictable, but stock levels are also notoriously fickle - it's not unusual for them to run out of sandwiches within minutes, it seems to me - and they are quite pricey for what you get. So this M&S Simply Food is a compulsory stop for me on my regular visits to see the folks in Wales. I love their avocado and spinach sandwiches with mustard and pine-nuts, and the chocolate flapjacks. As with all M&S stuff, it's a little pricey, but it is reliable on quality, and they are making a big effort these days to be more environmentally aware, and to purchase fairly traded goods. Staff here always seem friendly, and it's less frenetic than the adjacent Sainsbury's. This branch is also good for buying fresh flowers to present to your hosts at the other end, and with generous opening hours, worth knowing about if you are stuck for provisions late in the evening. read more

This is a great place to pick up essentials or food to go. This outlet focuses on food to go and essentials that a traveler may need. (Soap, stockings - those kind of things) For regular shopping, you can get your basics like bread, milk, eggs, flour, some fresh fruit and veggies, but you can't be particular about wanting a particular one. You take what you get. For food to go, you have cookies, salads, crisps, cakes, M&S range of cooked food that just needs to be popped in a microwave or oven. It's open till 11, 7 days a week which is great, but In case you need something later, try the Sainsbury next door which is open till 12. read more

Handy convenience food store inside Paddington station. Marks and Spencer prices are generally higher than those of the adjacent Sainsbury's shop. You can collect clothing here that you buy online, which is very convenient even though you have to queue for the cashier who then sends someone else off to collect your item, who then brings it, by which time you may have missed your train. I love their on-the-go selection as it's better than what we have in the States. This is pretty cool... In the US, I don't stop at the Quik Stop or little markets like 7-11 much anymore, so this was a pretty good experience. Lots of different types of food, pre-prepared and set to go. Being that we were trying to acclimate to the time difference and tired from a day of travel, we decided to grab some easy bites here and relax in the room on the bed in front of the TV. I agree with the last reviewer, although I did notice yesterday that the sandwiches were no more expensive than the ones from nearby Boots. There's a good range for vegetarians too - hummous and roasted vegetables, free-range egg, both white and brown sandwiches and Mexican-style wraps too with beans. All in addition to the delicious-sounding avocado and spinach ones mentioned earlier! Great chocolate for gifts available in nice packaging as well. There can be quite a long queue although the staff are always friendly when you do get to the check-out. Definitely nice snacks for the train back to Wales! read more

The store is always clean and the staff are very helpful. I've never seen expired food on the shelves.

Good range of food and not just sandwiches, you can get salads and ready meals to take home. However the shop is a little cramped and the low ceiling doesn't help. There's a good selection of more expensive items such as wine and Belgian chocolates. The checkouts never seem to be fully manned so be prepared for a possible queue! read more

As a frequent Heathrow Express traveller, this M&S store is the place I go every friday to do some quick food shopping. It offers a good range of food, with more selection of ready cooked meals. As a foodie addict, I prefer to cook from scratch, however this store still serve its purpose on Friday nnight when I am too tired to cook. Recommended read more

I agree with the comments about the good range, as far as the queues are concerned they can build up but also can disappear just as quick , especially in rush hour, you can see the staff moving back and forth from the tills to the sales floor as they try and keep the shelves full! They've started doing some Gluten free stuff but a bit of Organic would be nice. They have a pretty good range of booze and chocs and stuff, just a shame they don't have gift bags.. read more

Not in NW10 but in W2. Express food store recently visited to find only 1 or 11 tills open and queues snaking back through the store. Apparently, I was the only customer that day to complain! Will not be going there again. Actually, most of the 'local' M&S Food Stores never have more than 50% of tills open and the one in Kilburn has permanently understocked shelves with gaping spaces. Long queues to pay because....... half the tills are always closed. Manager (when can be located) ALWAYS pleads shortage of staff, staff illness, holiday etc. read more
