The people that work in the hot foods are kinda rude and they take pretty bad care of there flowers and plants. It's hard for me to understand why places sell plants if they don't know how to care for them and won't even just give you them. I think my biggest issue with there store is there incessant need to block the isle you have to come in through with a bunch of nasty junk food ‍‍‍ also inconsistent roasted chicken times.... Lol. Ok, we all know this pandemic is terrible and some people's nerves are raw. But that is no reason to be rude. I had a simple question. They have a sign up that says "limit two". So I asked the deli guy (late 50's early 60's gray hair) "excuse me sir, the sign says limit two. Is that 2 items/brand or 2 packages no matter what?" He didn't even look at me at first then snapped, "2 means 2! 2 chicken 2 beef 2 pork. Sign is self explanatory" and he walked away but not until he complained to a red jacket employee who laughed. We have been shopping at Market Basket at Swanzey for a number of years, and noticed two things that happen at almost every shopping experience that could be improved; 1. Deli meat, sold in the zip lock bags which should suffice for neat closure, but they always put the price label sticker wrapped over the zip lock, which we have to pull off in order to open the zip lock, and then the sticker rips the bag. How about putting the label on the SIDE of the bag? 2. Kid baggers don't have foresight to count how many canvas bags we have, and so stuff one canvas bag to overflowing so the groceries are practically toppling out of the bag, while 5 more empty bags sit ready to be filled. Our groceries usually fill about 4 1/ 2 bags, but the kids can't see pas the first bag read more

I like certain parts of the store. I was there Monday at 10am and could not get through many aisles. There were multiple pallets on one side and stockers on ladders on the other. I tried to get through as there was an item I needed, but when I asked to get to it, I was told, "Sorry we are stocking, and we can't move." Checkout was another mess with the bagger having a deep discussion with the cashier about company policy so my items weren't getting scanned or bagged up. I went in for the first time last week to get cupcakes for my child's birthday celebration at school but to also get a "matching" treat for a child w a gluten allergy in his class. The woman in the bakery was so incredibly helpful and came out to show me all of the gluten free options they had available, which were way more than I expected. I was able to get a few dozen mini cupcakes and a small container of almost identical gluten free ones to bring for the gluten free child. Her attention to detail and excellent customer service was much appreciated. And my cashier let me know she was in her 90's and loves coming to work everyday. The fresh veg and fruit is tucked away in the far distant corner which I suppose makes sense if you shop left to right, it will allow the fruit and veg to stay un-squished on the top of your mega-cart crammed to the rafters with your family's weekly foodstuff. $6.99/lb. translates to four lobsters for $35. This store is phenomonal. The prices, the selection and the help all together makes this unequaled for a large retail market. Anyone is willing to help with questions and they know their departments so well, they can usually discuss what they have currently in stock and what will be added to the line in the future. Market Basket has to be one of my favorite grocery stores and the Swanzey location is one of the cleanest and well organized stores I have been in. This location has all the name brand goods you are looking for and they also have a ton of "generic" goods. This location generally has short lines at the check out aisles but when they are busy they tend to get people in and out quickly. I appreciate their produce, sugar free baked goods, and sushi. I am also enjoy the fact that they have a great meat department and have some cuts of meat that you don't find in your more local stores such as stop and shop. The beer and wine aisle is great, and this store is always well stocked. The downside to this store as one Yelper stated is that getting staff to help you find an item is difficult. The only success I have had was in the meat department. They were extremely helpful and polite. That being said, I prefer to travel from Massachusetts to do a large shopping trip rather than doing it more local because of the savings. read more

Worth the drive from Putney Vermont rather than shopping in the more expensive Brattleboro supermarkets. Factoring in the cost of gas it is still cheaper to shop at Market Basket . I also appreciate that they don't play the coupon game and don't continually rearrange the store as the Putney Road supermarket too often does . read more

What? 3 stars? Out of the 3 major grocery stores in Keene (Price Chopper, Hannford and Market Basket), MB trumps the rest. 1. Has ethnic groceries and produce 2. Great ice cream selection, literally a whole wall of freezers 3. Great sushi selection and reasonable priced 4. Great bread selection, even has sales 5. Great meats selection and very competitive pricing I like this store, no nonsense. I normally shop at Market basket, I find it to be cheaper on average than the other grocery stores around. However, I shopped at this location yesterday and bought a packet of strawberries. Upon returning home and opening the container, several of the strawberries were already moldy. I don't know how this got past those that were shelving, as well as my own eyes, but it was not something I expected or wanted to see. read more

I will give it to you straight... Free coffee, often beer and wine sample (although I wish sometimes in the mornings! ha), food samples, and the best prices on most products. So that is all great. I really like this store for the selection and prices. Checking out is always the issue, unlike other stores in the area, there is no self checkout. My biggest complaint is the person ringing up the groceries and the person bagging, stop bagging and ringing up items to talk to each other, or other workers walking by. Meanwhile my frozen items are thawing, if there is a bagger on duty, the groceries should be pretty much all bagged up when I am paying, but no, and today they put a large can of veggies on top of a bag of fruit, pretty much bruising and messing them up. I bring my own bags and ask to please put the frozen items and meat in the insulated bag and I even put them up on the belt first and together, nope, got home and they put a box of cereal between frozen items and sogged the entire box, while a container of ice cream was put in with detergent. I don't need to hear someone complain that they have worked 2 hours and hasn't had a break. I will still shop there but wish they would talk to the baggers and cashiers about this. While I love the store itself, the employees at this location are awful! Came three days ago and the cashier scanned my items and chucked them all aggressively down the rest of the belt. He didn't even greet me or talk to me so it was already super awkward. Then I come in two days ago for more stuff and I went in the lane that above says 12 items or less but it was not flashing, only the light below it was flashing that didn't say 12 items or less. I had went over 12 which should've been fine but she rudely said I can't do that next time. Then me and my partner did 50 on the card the rest in cash and my card only accepted 49 so the manager had to come over and fix something on her side. At this point she seemed irritated and then kept huffing and rolling her eyes. My partner thanked her for the change when she handed it back to us and then she said under her breath "f***ing rude" and proceeds to roll her eyes. I then said "excuse me?" Because what is rude? I was about to head over to the manager right then and there because that was absolutely unacceptable but my partner decided not too. Rude cashiers need to be trained better or let go. This market was quite disconcerting on the first visit (What?! Ice-cream by produce? Frozen foods the entire store-length from dairy products? How will everything keep until check-out?) but I'm glad we returned and finally learned the quirky shelf patterns. Market Basket has great produce, nice bakery bread selections, awesome check-out speed. The one thumbs down is that if you ask an employee where a particular product is (and I had a bunch of those questions on my first visit!) you will be told to look for an employee in a certain colored jacket. The area's best prices with pretty good quality. Compare the parking lots of MB and their competitors and you will see why MB has scared Shaws and others. Their store brands are decent. Well staffed registers with mostly polite and attentive cashiers. Clean the bathrooms better! read more

This store is spotless. It gets busy, but that's because even Wal-Hell can't beat their prices, so the entire population of the surrounding towns shops there. Customer service is fantastic, which for me is a slight draw-back - I don't really want to have to talk to people after a long day at work, so I view the question "can I help you find anything?" as an intrusion. Their selection is great, the layout of the store, once you shop there a couple times, is pretty intuitive. I have found that the quality of the "store brand" is as good or better than the name brands, so I save even more money that way, but even if you choose the name brands, the prices are great. read more

MB Keene is no worse, no better than any other. One issue that nags me, we have asked a number of times for them to order a case quantity of an item they don't care to stock regularly. Always, they smile and say "We'll call you" and I've yet to hear from them. Its okay if you don't want to do your jobs, just don't tell me you will! MB has the second lowest food prices of any grocery store in the area. Only the new ALDI has lower prices. MB has the best parking lot. It is huge, parking is free, it is easy to get out of, and it is well maintained. Great sale prices. The downside is the store closes early. read more

I have been a regular customer since you opened your Swanzey NH store. Things that I usually find excellent have been going down in quality. Examples: I buy your store brand of bacon regular sliced. It has been anything but now for the last few times. The slices are anywhere from one quarter to paper thin in the same package. Next, your Maine Blueberry pies, the crust has gotten so tough that it can hardly be cut with a sharp knife. I will still shop in your store for now. But please, have quality control checks done better. read more

I was in the area camping over the fourth of July weekend with my boyfriend and his family and we stopped at this store for groceries. I've enjoyed shopping at market basket in the past, however when it came down to verifying my state government issued drivers license (I've never had an issue buying beer with my ID since i turned 21 and now I'm 24) after trying to buy a 12 pack of beer and getting turned down by the staff, I asked to speak to Spyles Regopoulos, the store director, about it. He was out of his way rude and he first approached me with a question "Are you telling me how to do my job?" before I could have a chance to speak. He also interrupted me in mid-sentence and even brought on the idea of having the police come to the store as if to prove a point. I have never written a negative review before, but the store director, Mr. Regopoulos, had made the matter personal when it didn't need to be. It wasn't just the fact that I couldn't buy alcohol anymore, it was the unwarranted rudeness that ensued and the unwelcoming vibe I received from him. The rest of the staff was courteous and they were just doing their job. The director however did not reflect a positive outlook for Market Basket and the level of customer service they strive to reach for in their mission. read more
