We've been shopping at the Rindge Market Basket for over five years now, and while the customer service has never been great, lately the teen employees have been so brazenly rude, that I think it's time to start shopping somewhere else.
The majority of the employees are deluded millenials that have evolved out of the ability to engage in a normal human interaction. They have no clue about customer service, how to treat a customer, what is inappropriate to say to a customer. The employees will walk right in front of customers without saying "excuse me", and expect customers to get out of their way. Most of these kids either need to be re-trained or fired.
A few weeks ago, we were shopping and the kid running the floor washer came barreling right at us, doesn't say excuse me or anything, just stares like we have three heads and pushes right through us. Hey rude idiot, say excuse me.
Then I go in there a few days later, and I had to deal with the following exchange with one of the smarmy dip-shit teen cashiers:
Cashier: Do you know this lettuce is organic?
Me: Yes
Cashier: Oh, OK, you just don't look like the sort of person that would be buying organic, no offense."
Um, yes, your ignorance is offensive.
Then she tries to drop some knowledge on me. Some sage, teenage wisdom:
Cashier: Iceberg lettuce doesn't have any vitamins you know?
Me: I'm not trying to get healthy with this, I'm just trying to get my BLT on.
Hey Twilight, I don't need nutritional advice from a tween cashier wearing too much eye liner that's young enough to be my kid. You should just keep your mouth shut and attempt to do your job correctly. And you never say "you don't look like the type that would [insert action] no offense" to a customer. It is rude, ignorant, discriminatory, and unacceptable.
So after these two incidents, I decide to call the store director and let him know about the issues. He thanked me, and assured me he would address them with his employees. He also told me that employees are suppose to power down the floor machine and wait for customers to be finished.
Flash to today. Were in there shopping. Same kid comes down the aisle with the floor machine as my girlfriend is grabbing something from a shelf, she didn't see him, and he barely stops before hitting her, doesn't say a word and just stares at her. Same kid. Really?
So I go the service desk and ask for the store manager, tell him that I already called the store director last week about this same situation and the same kid is still out there being pushy with floor machine. The manager apologized and said that after my call they talked to employees and he would talk to him again.
It's pretty apparent that the store director and the managers at this Market Basket location do not have control over their pubescent staff, which last time I checked, is their job. I shouldn't have to deal with rude teenagers every time I shop there.
The bottom line is, if money's tight, I guess go to Market Basket. The prices are great, but the rude employees will wear on you after a while if you shop there regularly.
If you have the extra money, and you just want to relax when you do your shopping and not encounter rude millenial life turds lurking around every corner, shooting their mouths off and running you down with the floor washer every time you shop, go some where else. read more
