For this visit I also met with Liz, a Nurse Practitioner who went through a very thorough discussion about my digestive situation. Dr. Tsuchiyose came in afterward and we discussed things a bit further, as well as moving forward with the procedure. The actual colonoscopy didn't happen here; it took place at the SOAR Surgery Center next-door to The Westin San Francisco Airport hotel. I was referred to Dr. Tsuchiyose by my primary care provider when I told said PCP about my GI symptoms. For several years, I had been dealing with irritable bowel syndrome (alternating constipation and diarrhea), constant bloating (severe enough to make me look 6 months pregnant, even on an empty stomach), gas pains, and abdominal discomfort. In addition, I was noticing unintentional weight gain that I couldn't lose despite diet and exercise, worsening anxiety and brain fog, chronic fatigue, and irregular sleep. Prior to seeing Dr. T, I had visited both a functional medicine doctor and gasteroenterologist at Duke University Hospital; however, none of the interventions I was prescribed, including dietary changes, conventional antibiotics, and probiotics, led to even the slightest improvement in my symptoms. Consequently, I had high hopes that Dr. T could offer more effective treatments, as well as figure out what exactly was causing my GI symptoms. As a new patient, I felt that Dr. T's staff was difficult to work with, because it took a while to sort out insurance coverage and schedule my initial appointment. However, my consultation and subsequent follow-up appointments with Dr. T turned out to be quite fruitful. As it turned out, Dr. T diagnosed me with SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth), leaky gut, and gastritis, all of which were most likely contributing to the GI symptoms I was struggling to control for years. Based on previous lab tests and prior interventions I had tried at Duke, Dr. T placed me on a step-by-step approach to help heal my GI tract. At first, I was prescribed supplements to treat my SIBO. Next, I was placed on another regimen to heal my leaky gut. In between appointments, Dr. T also ordered a repeat endoscopy, the purpose of which was to assess my stomach function and obtain tissue biopsies. Then, based on the endoscopy results, he recommended additional medications to strengthen my stomach and treat my gastritis. Lastly, he recommended an easy-to-digest diet to follow while on his healing protocol. From my initial appointment with Dr. T (back in September 2021) up until now, I have felt significant improvements in my gut health. Though I hesitate to say I am 100% healed, granted I still experience a couple of flare-ups throughout the month, I have noticed much less bloating, improved digestion after my meals, better tolerance of common food triggers (namely gluten), and more regular bowel movement patterns. Moreover, I slept better, felt less anxious, and even lost a couple of the pounds I had gained. I'm very fortunate to have been one of Dr. T's patients. It's evident that Dr. T puts a lot of care and attention to treating his clients, though a couple of criticisms I have are: *the supplements he prescribed me really added up over time. Given that I had to take them over the course of several months, buying enough to last me the duration of the treatment ended up being pretty expensive. *because Dr. T sees many other patients, I noticed that he often forgot which treatment regimens I completed vs. did not complete. This meant that during my follow-up appointments, I had to remind him of the supplements he had prescribed me at my last follow-up. All in all, I highly recommend Dr. T, especially for those struggling with digestive issues like SIBO. read more

AVOID THIS DOCTOR AT ALL COSTS. I waited over 3 hours for an appointment. When asked what was taking so long the first receptionist said he was finishing up his lunch. It was well past 2 PM. The second receptionist then said he was actually going to a surgery consult and that he wasn't even on the premises. Why schedule my appointment then? He then finally shows up and is casually showing around some other doctor what his waiting room looks like introducing him to his staff. While there is an entire room of people waiting for him. This doctor clearly does not care about patients. Simply take a look at all of the other negative reviews and AVOID AVOID AVOID!!! Trying to get a prescription refill is like trying to pull teeth from a chicken. I was put on hold (called 5 times to get a real person) for 25 minutes before giving up. Called back 2 more times and left messages before they finally called me back. They claimed they never received a refill request from my pharmacy. Called pharmacy and they sent third request. Pharmacy has still not received refill from Dr. T's office. Pharmacy has sent 4th request. Still waiting for callback from doctor's office. And yes, I know, I'm an idiot for not replacing him. read more

I was referred to Dr. Tsuchiyose by my primary after an increasing amount of heartburn started to really irritate me. The staff is amazing and scheduled an appointment at a convenient time and when I arrived in the office it was clean and fresh looking. The Dr. was right on time for my consultation and after a number of detailed questions we decided to schedule and Endoscopy to see what was going on. The Endoscopy experience was amazing and in no time he found the underlying problem and I have not had any heartburn for over 4 months. I just had my followup appointment and it also was a really nice experience. I wish I could recommend Dr. Tsuchiyose higher than 5 stars as they make a great team. read more

Dr Mark sent me for a test which cost me $5,000 He didn't inform me of the cost or if the test could be postponed. Wish he would have said something... anything! In the end it was a useless test Doctors that don't tell patients what they are facing are wrong. read more

Mark Tsuchyiose has seen my father for many years and has always been very professional and friendly. His office is inviting and one can find information about how to stay healthy via watching the television programmed on yoga or reading posters on the wall. The reason I am giving this rating is because of the wait. We show up and wait two hours after our appointment to be seen. It is quite intense and hopefully, Dr. Tsuchyiose can plan his appointments and patients accordingly. To add to the two hour wait, my preschooler and 84 year old father were complaining and falling apart. I sure wish I had a yoga mat and the proper yoga attire and a bottle of water to get on the floor of the waiting room and do yoga with the video being shown to reduce stress. read more

Dr. Tsuchiyose is an excellent gastroenterologist. He actually cares about your well being. I had an endoscopy and colonoscopy within a month of each other. He is detailed oriented and you can see those in his reports. Professional and respectful bedside manner to his patients. I highly recommend him for digestive issues and your colonoscopy procedures. This man doesn't give a crap about you. I spent over three months in terrible pain. He took some tests but even though I called every day he didn't bother to get back to me. I finally gave up on him and went to another doctor in Redwood city who knew right away I needed emergency treatment. He took all the tests including a cat scan in one day. My relative went in for a simple non invasive procedure and ended up in surgery and hospitalized for over a week. My relative is still trying to recover after 2 weeks from being discharged from the hospital. It will probably take another month before they are fully recovered. Stay away from him My wife and I have had good experiences with Dr. Mark in the past. However, this go around, the situation was totally unsatisfactorily. He used "minimal" sedation for a colonoscopy during which, I woke up in the middle of the procedure under considerable duress. He didn't bother seeing me in recovery, but had his assistant call me to schedule a CT colonography to supplement the first procedure. After I did that, he had his assistant call me up for another colonoscopy. I managed to finally get a hold of him to ask why and he said that "it was not clear" what the hospital doctors who reviewed the scan were talking about. After the latest colonoscopy, fortunately under max sedation, he did not bother to show up in recovery again, but had his assistant call me up to schedule another colonoscopy due to "bad prep" which is blatantly false. I told the assistant to take me off their "hit" list and don't bother me again. I wonder what he is up to?? read more

I had an event with him a couple of years ago at Seton Hospital. I was suffering extreme abdominal pain There was a long string of bad things from the moment I got admitted to Seton including but not limited to being administered a drug that was intended for the other guy in my room, a diabetic who had serious circulatory problems. They gave me heparin which is an anti coagulant which, if my gut was bleeding, could have caused massive bleeding internally There is a long list of things Seton did wrong, so I will rant there, but they were supposed to give me medication to empty my bowels for a sigmoidoscopy the next day. They did not. The next morning, they loaded me on a gurney and took me to an exam room. Tsuchiyose saw that I was not correctly prepped and decided that he could do the procedure anyway by giving me enemas in the exam room while perched on the gurney. This was pretty gross and certainly not correct procedure. It was pretty frightening. I started to protest, but he insisted on trying. The pain of having the scope stuffed up there was pretty intense When the pain got too intense, I demanded that he quit and he finally did Before all of this began, when I knew I had not been prepped, I suggested we postpone until I was properly prepped, but he would not hear of it. Avoid this doctor, unless you want to be in pain for months before getting treatment. After the initial visit (which you will have to wait for 4-5 weeks) he will want to do all kinds of testing (endoscopy, colonoscopy, etc.), which is actually a good thing, but it will be impossible to get a follow up appointment with him for weeks on end. If you call the office because you have become desperate, they will tell you he is not in today. Dr. Tsuchiyose seems to make more money off of testing than office visits so he schedules all kinds of testing for you but has no time for follow up appointments. You can get an appointment for an endoscopy with him much faster than an appointment for an office visit!?!?!? This is not acceptable. I picked up my test results and records today and will take them to another doctor who actually will see me. It's a shame that patients are treated this way and left in pain for months.
