I had gone to Dr. Tummarello's practice about a year ago in Sep/Oct 2023. I had mentioned what insurance I have. They did tell me that it is out of network, but did say that they think my insurance company will pay about 50% of charges. They took x-rays and did cleaning (by a Hygienist) and exam. It later turned out I had pay over $300 out of pocket. But I felt the cleaning was not good. The Hygienist used a manual tool and I don't think she cleaned thoroughly. I called the practice to let them know and they offered that I can come again and Dr. Tummarello will clean for free. But, it took another 3 weeks for them to slot me in. The prior Dentist whom I was a patient for over 20 years, would ask me when I want to come in if I ever said that I don't think cleaning was good. About 6 months later after the first appointment, I inquired about cleaning and exam and asked how much they charge. They quoted me a price of $238. They also said that they are now accepting my insurance. I called my insurance and they said they are still out of network. A few months later, I needed the cleaning and asked them if I can come in for cleaning and exam. I told them whatever insurance does not pay out of $238 total charge, I will pay. They said the price of $238 they had quoted was for x-rays. The practice said Dr. Tummarrello cannot do a proper exam without x-rays. read more

Simply the best! Going to the dentist isn't exactly my favorite thing, but Dr. T is truly wonderful, which definitely makes it better! She is so sweet and non judgemental and literally a ninja when it comes to cleaning teeth. I will not hesitate to refer her to all of my friends and family. The front desk staff are also so nice. And they send a post card to remind me to go back every 6 months, which I find very helpful given how busy I am. If you need a great dentist in or around Fairfax, go see Dr. T! Need to Know: 1. Parking is plentiful although you might have to walk 100 yards. 2. It's on the first floor so minimal steps. 3. All workers I have interacted with are kind and courteous. 4. The office is clean. 5. They seem to run on schedule! I have been coming here for a couple years after being referred by a coworker. I have had nothing but excellent experiences and highly recommend Dr. Tummarello and his staff! read more

Dr. Hilary Pandik was my dentist years ago and I felt him to be a very skilled artistic perfectionist for a dentist. He and his practice is highly rated in the Northern Virginia area. Fast forward to September 2019, when I took out a dental insurance policy and contacted the office. I arranged an appointment and with gladness in my heart, I arrived on time soo pleased to be back in the care of this very skilled dentist. Only to arrive and the front office never put in my appointment and they would not even fit me in. I talked exclusively with Dotty before I made the appointment. We were back and forth over which was the best dental insurance to take that Dr. Pandik would accept and finally settled on one and then we were back and forth over many phone calls to find the right date since I have to arrange medical transportation due to my disability. It took alot of arranging but finally it was all settled. And then when I arrived, I was greeted with a very cold reception from Dotty who remembered me but never remembered that she set a date and time with me, how else would I have put down the date and time in my calendar if she had not arranged this appointment. I was told that they had someone who had a crown fitting and that would take two hours, so they could not work me in. Dotty didn't even apologize for her "mistake". So, I guess I may have gotten bumped out as a crown trumps a basic cleaning or maybe they had better insurance than I, who knows why Dotty erased my appointment. Clearly I had the appointment, just something happened on Dotty's side of the equation. The front office seemed to scramble with reasons for me what may have happened. I asked if the hygienist was available and they just said no. they pointed to the dental office across from them, suggesting I could try them to see if that practice could fit me in. Something is wrong with the front office and this practice. I felt this has to be addressed here. When I got home, I never received a follow-up phone call to reschedule or even an apology. So, Dr. Pandik needs to know the front office is sending his business away to his competition and making mistakes in scheduling. I don't know if my insurance was not enough for them or what the issue with the front desk was. All things happen for a reason and perhaps I was better off not going to Dr. Pandik. Will continue my search for a reputable dentist going forward. read more

I saw Dr Tumarello as a 2nd opinion after a new dentist I only saw once told me I had 7 cavities that needed filling asap. I see a dentist every 6 months and everything was great before then so I nearly went grey hearing that. To be honest I was afraid to go back to a dentist because of that experience, so it took me 6 months just to schedule this 2nd opinion. When I did go in everyone was very friendly from the receptionists to the hygenist (Cathy? I'm horrible with names so I hope that's right). She was very gentle for the cleaning. After reviewing my xrays and doing a thorough exam Dr Tumarello said I didn't need anything done. Yay!! He explained everything very well. I could ask as many questions as I wanted without feeling rushed. It was a great experience and not just because I had wonderful news, although that did have me singing in the car on the way home. It's hard to find a dentist you can TRUST. Dr Tumarello is definitely one I will be recommending to friends and family. read more

Best dentist ever! I've been going to him for decades and you couldn't pay me to go anywhere else. Once I went in for an after hours dental emergency (dislocated jaw), but he was still in the office so he stayed late to fix the problem. The oral surgeons were talking about doing surgery and wiring my jaw shut, but Dr. Tumarello was able to fix it without any of that being necessary. He is a fantastic dentist - and really a wonderful, caring person. I recommend him to all my friends and family and they rave about him to their friends. read more

My comments mirror everything I've read on Yelp so far. Dr. Tumarrello is amazing. He is a soft spoken dear man - so if you have dental phobias, he'll take the scary out of dental visits. He is available. I have been able to see him almost immediately in an emergency situation (7am the next morning because I had to travel out of the area for a wedding). Like some of the other reviewers, my original dentist retired and while searching for someone new I had a couple of unpleasant experiences with potentially aggressive dentists telling me my teeth had to go. I have always taken good care of my teeth so I knew I was being prodded to pay for someone's dental schools bills. (Do not use dentists who send picture postcards in the mail to announce themselves.) Dr. Tumarrello is kind, knowledgeable, patient, explains procedures carefully, gentle and has never suggested unnecessary procedures. He is always willing to listen and suggest options. And his prices are very reasonable. In addition, Dottie, the receptionist is equally amazing and is always helpful and pleasant. I have even called from outside of the country and she spent time on the phone with me to provide needed information. If you want to hear a kind voice, give Dottie a call. When I get off the phone with her I feel relaxed. I have used this dental practice for both preventive and cosmetic dental care and have been extremely satisfied. read more

After struggling to find an honest dentist in the DC area for quite some time, I finally found a great dentist in Dr. Tummarello. He did the entire cleaning and exam process himself, and was very friendly and careful. I left my old dentist after she tried selling me every service she could offer before I could lay down in the dentist chair, and she suspiciously found a cavity after I was given a clean bill of health from her assistant. I had the complete opposite experience with Dr. Tummarello. He didn't try to sell me anything - he just cleaned my teeth and gave me an honest evaluation (no cavities this time). This past week I broke my tooth so late Saturday night, I sent a text to Dr. Tummarello's receptionist, Dottie (yes, I have her cell phone number stored in my phone, which may seem a bit odd) and sure enough, the next morning Dottie responded telling me they were booked solid through mid-July but that she'd connect with Dr. T and see what could be done. They squeezed me in Wednesday morning, first thing, just three days later, and once again, the work Dr. T does is incredibly gentle, painless, and on point. He rebuilt my tooth to perfection the first time with just a slight need for some polishing. He's so very skilled, I'd trust him with anything - I wouldn't go to anyone else. Plus, he's such a pleasure to see and speak to. Their entire staff carries the same positive attitude that Dr. Tummarello always seems to have. Friendly, humorous, affable, and gentle. Dr. Tummarello has been my dentist for 16 years. I have received outstanding care from him and his hygienist for that entire time, but today, I went in for a cleaning and was taken aback at the lack of changes in protocol given the pandemic. Other than plexiglass being placed on the front desk, the magazines being removed from the waiting area, and a bottle hand sanitizer on the desk, there were no changes. Two of three employees at the front desk were not wearing masks at all, one of whom repeatedly walked between the front at the patient area. The third walked out of the patient area unmasked and only put on a mask when she sat at the desk. My hygienist came out in a mask -- no face shield -- and when I asked about the use of face shields, I was told they didn't have any. Chairs were crammed in the small waiting area as usual. Patients were not asked to wear masks (one left maskless as I waited) or wait in their cars. No health checks at all was performed -- not a single question was asked of me and certainly no temperature taken. A communal pen sat waiting for patients to complete their reminder cards. The ADA has laid out guidelines for what precautions offices should be putting in place, and they are following almost none of them. After observing for about ten minutes, I said I was feeling concerned about what I perceived to be a lack of precautions. I was stunned with how my concerns were met. The front desk staff chuckled. They rolled their eyes. They did nothing to allay my concerns about precautions being taken (maybe ones I didn't see but still hoped existed). When they finally asked if I wished to reschedule, I indicated that I would be finding another office. More chuckles and eye rolls. They may be excellent dentists, but they are terrible healthcare providers. I'm deeply disappointed and, frankly, stunned. read more

I found this dentistry based on 1) my dental provider (they were the first on the list that I could go to in network), 2) location and 3) Yelp reviews. I had the first appointment at 8am. I received a text message from them yesterday to confirm. Took a few minutes to fill out paper work. I was called back and the hygenist was Cathy/Catherine. She got to know me a bit first. Then explained when she was going to do (I was just there for a cleaning). When she took a look, she used the normal picks. Then said that she was going to use a machine just to make it go quicker and if I felt any discomfort, to let her know. She explained everything that she was doing as she did it, what I could do to improve my oral health, and showed me how to use the cup thing so that I could rinse every few minutes. I explained to her that no matter how much effort I put into oral hygiene, I always felt like there was something wrong. And she explained to me that there are some people like that. She was just very comforting. After about 50ish minutes, we were done and the doctor came over. He took a look at everything and even let me know that just because he was quiet, didnt' mean anything was wrong. He was just focused. He had a great personality and sense of humor. I'm so glad I checked all reviews. This office was very comforting and I highly recommend to anyone who needs a new dentist. read more

Both my husband and I have been patients of Dr. T's for 10+ years. Can't begin to say enough good things about the man! He is hands on, very knowledgeable and a nice guy. Plus he has a delightful and competent staff. Everyone I have referred to him has stayed with him...what more needs to be said! read more
