He has taken me through some difficult situations including a cervical fusion and as long as I have all my questions and concerns organized and present them he always covers everything. We recommended Dr. Mark Levy frequently and were patients for years but no more. We needed aa referral for a specialist and his assistant Jan said we couldn't get one without an office visit. This was even though our last office visit was less than a month ago and Medicare was billed for that visit. But, you guessed it, if he makes us come in for a visit he can bill Medicare again. I was impressed with his style and his ability to diagnose, especially since her health issues had continued for years without appropriate, successful, medical intervention. My Daughter who is great at researching internet determined that Dr. Levy had great reviews and she needed a new internist. So we all switched to him.When We first met him we were not impressed. He looked odd and was dressed very weird like a clown.. . His comments were off the wall he said" Every Dr will give you enough meds and some of those will kill you" Well he almost killed my daughter. When she saw him stating she was running out of breath and felt very tired he told her she needed to loose weight and he should prescribed diet supplements. A week later she passed out and ran to another Dr. immediately had her admitted at Highland park hospital where they called code blue since she was having a pulmonary embolism and almost died. He's listed on my medical group's site as being in network, he took my appointment, but when I gave them my insurance card they told me they don't accept my insurance and if I wanted care I'd need to be a cash client. I immediately called my medical group who confirmed again he is in my network and I should be covered. Wasted a day off of work. What an unorganized disaster. read more

If you want a doctor who is more interested in collecting your co-pay than helping you get better...then go here. If I could give a "no star" rating I would. I"m new to the area and wanted to see this doctor for convenience. I had a friend visit him and thought why not. I, truth be told, put my first new patient appoint on the wrong day and called the following week realizing my error and rescheduled. I did get another appointment for the same week, but being "new" my insurance cards were no where to be found. So, being what I thought was responsible, I called their answering service as soon as I could even thought is wasn't working hours. The nice lady at the service recommended I leave a message about the situation rather than cancel because she was not aware of any insurance card policies for new patients and so I should confirm with the office directly. I waited... Now comes ten minutes before my appointment and my cell phone rings. Someone calls me by a wrong name, confusing how many appointments I have made and the biting receptionist barks at me for some fees that I owe them for missing all these appointments as a "no show" and I owe them and, I kid you not, "have a choice to make if I wan to be a new patience I'll have to pay $150 or is it $50 or is it $75 cash up front" and on an on as if I understood this all previously. I get it, you're busy, lots of voicemails to give you job security this morning, but... I maintained a calm voice and corrected her mistakes about exactly how many "no shows" I owed them for and also pointed out I was never made aware of any obligation I had to pay fees for "no show" notices left via voice mail and then returned late and policies I was never notified about. For Dr. Mark Levy MD, I have this advice ------ Your first point of contact at your office may being losing more than just my ongoing business if she treats others this way. She didn't even give me her name and called me by the wrong name. Make a new policy for that one dear. Just bad manners. Choice made. Levy rocks! Seriously, he's a great doc, just love him to pieces! I started seeing him maybe thirteen years ago, when my regular internist never had time for me and I got passed off to the new guy. Very observant, great bedside manner, treats me like a human being (which for fat people is the number one criteria for choosing a physician) He's gotten me in to see specialists when other arrangements fell through, (like the cardiologist who took my insurance when I made the appt. but not when I showed up at the office a week later) He has no office staff to mess things up, just a switchboard to make appointments; the switchboard will also send him a message if you have an emergency & he does gets back right away. They haven't screwed anything up yet, except once I got disconnected. He has a new outgoing voicemail message every day telling where he'll be, how to get ahold of him, when messages will be checked, etc. Remember, if you leave a message on voice mail, you won't get a response right away...maybe 24 hours, so don't get your panties in a bunch. read more

Levy is Good Doctor, however his attitude SUCKS! I have been a patient for over 7 years and have had several issues with him being short with me and my family after I had a heart attack. I've been a patient of Dr. Levy's for 20 years, and the rest of my family has been seeing him for even longer. Mark is as good as they get. The personalized attention that Mark gives his patients is unequaled. He really listens to your concerns, fears and questions closely, and provides easy to understand answers. Mark takes the approach that the patient is most comfortable with, treating as aggressively as you are willing to go. A walking wealth of knowledge there is nothing that Mark isn't willing to tackle head on and he is always doing the research so that he can treat you better. He also knows when to turn you over to a specialist. Super quirky, Mark has a BIG personality. He is hilarious and has the best bedside manner ever. Mark always calls me on the weekend after my appointment to make sure that I am doing okay or if I need anything else. On several occasions he has left social affairs, including an out-of-state conference, to tend to me or family members in hospital at all hours of the night. Honestly, there is nothing I can say about Dr. Levy that isn't great. What's nice is that I have heard other doctors speak as highly of him as I do. We were patients of Dr Mark Levy for over 20 yrs. until his office mgr. Jan told us that because of a cancellation of two appts together mine and my husband's they wanted $150! He also misdiagnosed my husband, said he wasn't aging well when in fact he had Parkinson's Disease! He definitely changed since we first began with him. What can I say about Dr. Levy? He is AWESOME! Great guy, awesome sense of humor and a much shorter wait time then most other doctors I have been to. He's been my boyfriend's family doctor for over 20 years now and I started going to him about a year ago. He's great. His office staff could use a lesson in politeness once in a while, though. He has great hours, including 1 or 2 days with evening hours and is always very attentive to his patients. LOVE HIM! read more

If you value your live don't trust him! My surgery was a fusion of L5/S1 but I ended up with a spinal fluid leak. I went to his office twice with fluid leaking out of my incision and they just tried to glue me closed. Then pockets of fluid formed around my incision so he decided to drain them in his office with a needle. I then passed out in the hallway leaving the examine room and of course, it was my fault because I left his office to quickly. He finial told me the truth about my condition after 7 weeks of suffering. He told me I had a spinal fluid leak and had to have a second surgery. After that surgery, I continued to suffer. His follow up care is no care at all. I had to go to other doctors for help. It has been a year and a half since my first surgery and I am still suffering from what he did to me. I understand that things can happen during surgery but when your doctor will not be honest with you or take care of the situation, he should not be a doctor at all. Beware!!!! read more

I had a nice experience with Dr. Levy when i came in the first time. The doctor was straight forward with the costs of what i wanted to get done, however, the receptionist was rude each time i called. I called today to schedule an emergency appointment and the receptionist said that i was not able to schedule any appointments if i did not pay the $50 bucks upfront, because of a missed appointment. I tried to explain to her that i had a family emergency and that i was going to pay the $50 bucks in my next appointment, but she didn't let me talk and kept whining about the fee. This lady got out of control out of nowhere and started raising her voice and got angry to the point that she was screaming. I told her to calm down and hanged up, because she kept talking and raising her voice like a lunatic. I was feeling very ill on a Saturday morning. Tired, fever, no appetite. I just figured I had the flu. The problem was I slept almost 50 hours without eating or drinking anything not feeling rested. I decided to go to a local urgent care at which time they gave me IV fluids for dehydration and took blood and urine samples. I was told it wasn't the flu and needed an ultrasound on my kidneys, liver, pancreas and gall bladder. Those tests also turned up nothing. I followed up with Dr. Levy the following Thursday and after bringing him my test results and relating my symptoms to him, he had me diagnosed within 5 minutes of viral meningitis possibly from West Nile. Amazing! I've been a patient for 15 years of the doc and in my eyes he is a genius. I will not be wasting any more of my time in the future when I'm in doubt of any health issue I have. It's automatically going to be a call to Dr. Levy. He is very knowledgeable in many internal medicine issues and I've never had any issues getting in to see him. I'm retiring soon and moving out of town but I am definitely keeping him as my primary care physician and will be flying back when I need to see him. I had been a patient of Dr. Levy's for over 20 years as was my entire family. He is a good doctor but, since his divorce he has changed considerably and that is not a compliment. I had pneumonia and called for an appointment. I was told the earliest appointment he had was a week and a half away. I hung up with his service and called the office. Jan, who is not the nicest person, called me back and let me know that he could see me the next day as the last patient but that I would be considered an emergency patient. When I got to the office, I was told that I had to pay $75 for an emergency visit before he would see me. I said that I was not an emergency visit since I had called the day before and was told to come in at the end of the day. In my book that constitutes and appointment. I paid the $75 dollars (nothing like being gouged by your doctor). Any doctor who does not have at least 1 hour a day to see sick patients is not a doctor I want to see so I have gone elsewhere.
