These folks didn't know me from anyone; no long standing patient relationship; no obligation to me at all. Heather's smile comes right through the phone at you. From the Front Desk ladies to the Dental Assistants and Hygenists on the team, this is the happiest dental office I've ever visited. Oh...and I only spent about 6 or 7 minutes in the waiting room - another FIRST for any dentist I've ever seen - so I didn't even have to wait long enough for my usual dentist-related anxiety to pop up on me. Now I don't know about you, but I do NOT like those shots and I was petrified, especially given the pain I had been in for the past couple of days during the holiday. I am, in fact, terrified of needles, but I barely felt Dr. Whitson's "stick" and I was numb in no time. (whew!) He fixed my pain, fixed my tooth (really well) and had me out the door in about 35 minutes. Dr. Whitson seems pretty precise to, because there wasn't a lot of "post-fill drilling" like most dentists. He just did it right from the beginning! Not only was Dr. Whitson attentive, gentle and careful, he proved to be very conservative in his treatment plan. He didn't go for the easy "gouge" but instead went for the best treatment for me in the moment. For which I'm very grateful - and astonished, as most dentists don't take that "high" road. To top it off, they offered me several ways to even SAVE money in my payment options with them - very patient centered thinking! (never had a dentist do that in the last 15 years!) I had a routine cavity that Dr Chen work on and ended up underestimating how deep it was from the X-ray. She did a botched filling that I had to go in and get fixed and even after that I experienced terrible pain. I couldn't even chew rice. Dr Kleinova even commented how she packed the filling too much. I couldn't even floss without it getting stuck. One day a piece of my tooth came out and I went to the office and Vincent asked me what I did to make that happen. COME ON! When I saw Dr Chen she said there was no hole in my tooth even though I assured her there was. She said it was excess filling. Then a few weeks later when my pain increased dramatically and I couldn't drink or eat on that side without sharp pain, I emailed Vincent and asked if Dr. K could work on the tooth instead and he suggested another dentist. PLEASE IF YOU'RE READING THIS DR. K, COULD YOU PLEASE TAKE ME THIS ONE TIME? I've been suffering with this for over a year now b/c I'm terrified to walk into another office. I know they fired Dr Chen as they should have since she did such a terrible job on multiple patients. I know Dr. K is a great dentist. March 2017, a tooth snapped off while eating dinner. I'm happy to have found a dentist who can see me the next day since I was in pain. He was able to temporarily glue it back until I become permanent at this new job and have insurance. Unfortunately (or fortunately) this dentist is not in my dental insurance network. Two months later, tooth fell off again. I saw a different dentist who glued it back. Thereafter, I visited the oral surgeon to whom they referred me. They were good, but inside me says that I should get a second opinion. Dental office #3, I went to see last month, August 2017. This office was almost great but the insurance/finance gal frustrated me. Not sure whether she really knows what she's doing. Needless to say, I decided to see Dental office #4, Brookwood Dental Center. It's as if I have been "dating" guys who are "nice" but gave no spark, I think I found "The One." Dr. Stegmann did not make me feel as if I'm just "squeezed" between VIP patients. I could sense that he heard me -- me, as a competent person; me, as one who is asking for a caring help. I also sensed his labor over my dilemma (ie costs) versus what is good for my dental health. And he courteously acknowledged the pleasure of meeting me before he exited the room. It felt sincere and not a perfunctory gesture. Then Lisa, the insurance/finance person, came in with her customary papers. I had to stop her after a few minutes, to tell her how comfortable she made me feel and how I appreciate her gentle, knowledgeable, caring presentation of the plan costs. Her want to meet my (financial) concerns is palpable! She was not just pointing out how much I need to cough up. She met me in a way as if she's there to help me afford "this." It was a breath of fresh air to meet one like Lisa, doing her job, with the attitude of wanting to help and be helpful. As I mentioned earlier, like dating, I may have found the Dental Office that I want to continue to see. Two days AFTER his appointment, the office called and said that they were considered out-of-network, and that he now owed almost $300. Then the snippy person at the office told him it shouldn't be a big deal because he's always been paying out of pocket. WTAF????? For the record, other than dental work, the most he has paid out of pocket was about $80 when the office started doing xrays twice a year to pad their billing, and his former insurance only paid for xrays once a year. I have been a patient at Sunset Hills Dental as well; they have lost me as well. I have already found another dental practice and will not return to SHDG.
