At the time i had just moved here to care for my mother who was very ill and I had just bought the building so didnt have a lot of expendable income. They put in a factory refurbished unit for HALF the price and even agreed to bill me and let me pay in installments due to my situation. The second time i had to call them was for another tenant's A/C that stopped working at the end of August when it was 99 degrees. I first called Homer 9 & Sons because they didn't charge for after hours calls and that was a huge mistake. The tech that came started telling me how i was probably gonna have to change out all of the HVAC units. I told him i couldn't afford $10k and asked if there was any way to fix the broken one and he said definitely not, and that it would be $3,300 to put in a new one. He also said if i didnt purchase and book the installation right then, that i would have to wait a week to have it installed because there were no openings. When i asked if they had refurbished units he said no. While he was leaving, my downstairs tenant mentioned his thermostat wasn't working so the tech went to look at it and told me to rewire it would be $165 but that if we cut out Homer 9, that he would go get one from their warehouse and do it for $60. He also gave me his cell phone and told me we could work something out if i called him direct. He was very shifty and tbh it was getting dark and i didnt even want to be around him. So he did nothing that day but i had to pay $180 for his visit. The next day Homer 9 called and when i told them i would have to get a second opinion, they suddenly were available to install immediately. That sounded great to me, but in the interim i had already made an appointment with MAIER, so i told them i would call them back. When Maier came, Jordan and Josh said they could get me a refurbished unit for $1200 but that they wanted to see if they could fix the broken one first. They said they had a fan in their van but they weren't sure if it would fit. They went to get it and confirmed that it was not the right size. However, they said that maybe they could cut it down to make it fit. And after an hour and a half of prepping it, it worked! So i only had to pay $350!!!!! The third time i had to call them was one month later for my water heater that exploded. They came that same day and not only replaced it with a brand new one at $400 off (they were running a special), but they pumped out all the water and left the basement spic and span. Maier is a very ethical company and Jordan and Josh are so sweet, resourceful and kind that i think they should get a raise.

We called them around noon and were told we indeed have an appointment. The worse part for us is that my husband scheduled off for today so we could do something together. Instead we wasted an entire Friday waiting. No calls to apologize or explain. What kind of company does that?! So, at 4:30, the McVay guy showed up. 4 and a half hours past the window time given us! He looked at thermostat, saw it go blank, and informed us we needed a new one at $285! We declined. Turns out, our thermostat needed new batteries. So, not only do they not honor appointment times, they try to sell highly marked up products to people that don't need them. Full disclosure, I didn't end up hiring E.A. Bibey for work due to the issues I'm about to…read moredescribe. I trust my plumber with my life but he wasn't able to perform a boiler repair for me so he referred this company. The property is a rental so my property manager was speaking to a woman at E.A. Bibey. They said they couldn't get us on the schedule for 2 weeks but couldn't actually give us a day or time. My property manager tells me the woman she's speaking to has a bit of an attitude. They finally call back with a day and time which is the following day. We need to give tenants 24 hours notice so luckily that worked out. Then the woman at Bibey calls me to go over terms. First, the service call is $310 dollars ($200 for labor, $110 for travel). Having friends who are 20+ year union HVAC techs, I know that $200 an hour for labor is insane. Also, spoiler alert, unless you're fixing other people's boilers at your own house, you need to travel. Round trip to the property is less than 1 hour. Then she tells me I need to have someone on site with a check or they can call for a credit card when they're done but it's a 4% service charge. I explain to her that there's no way I can get a check and get it to my property manager in time and she can't be on site. Now, if you're going to charge me 4% for a CC, you need to give me the option to pay some other way to avoid that. I could literally drive a check over to their business 10 mins away but that wasn't sufficient. Or, take my CC without the fee (as does many other businesses like this). For context, it's been below freezing several times during this 2 week wait and my tenants are using a space heater. Being put into a price and terms jam, I call a different company. They can go to the property tomorrow and their service call fee is $119. (I got a bid from a friend who works for a big corporate HVAC company and doesn't do these calls and he told me his site fee is $105). Work was done by a different company, paid with CC, no 4% fee. I don't care if these guys are miracle workers with boilers and HVAC, the way they handle business is their achilles heel.
