I went in due to my partner's recommendation after she went, and I cannot recommend them enough. I need plenty of work done but my priority today was a chip and cavity in my front tooth. They were beyond phenomenal. The X-rays were quick and thorough. The periodontal exam is never pleasant, but was quick and one of the more painless ones. The numbing was so accurate, I could finally breathe normally during a procedure. In the past, I usually have to get numbed multiple times and in different places for one tooth but they got it right. Not only was I able to sit without stress during the procedure, I almost passed out I was so relaxed. When it came time to see my chipped tooth repaired, I was nothing but smiles and laughter. I could not believe how quick and painless it was to see my tooth in top notch condition. They even went over my full treatment plan and worked super well with my insurance to really work within my budget. I'm even going back later this week to start on a tooth that is giving me terrible pain for a root canal. While I'm getting my teeth cleaned, sitting 10 feet away from me in the same room, is another patient getting mercury amalgams removed from their mouth. The whole reason I choose this office was to avoid chemicals and toxins, not to be exposed to mercury vapors while I'm getting my teeth cleaned. The only good part of my experience here was that the dental hygienist who cleaned my teeth was gentle and kind. But she told me that I had one tooth that needed a deep cleaning, but she wouldn't do it that day because it would cost an additional $300. When I set up my appointment I asked for them to take the minimum number of x-rays and sent over the x-rays from my previous dentist. They charged my insurance $453 for a new patient visit, 6 x-rays, and teeth cleaning. My insurance paid $240, leaving me with a bill for $213. Which is more than the $200 new patient (without insurance) special they offer. So, I would have been better off not even using dental insurance to pay for my visit.

I found this clinic through Medicaid, I am a student and my income is very limited. The Neighborhood Health Center is in a good location for me as a S.E. Portland resident. I have had 5 appointments now with Dr. Wilson and his assistants, mainly Sam. Cynthia has been the receptionist whom I have spoken to and all three have provided excellent service and communicate very effectively for my needs. I have many fillings that need repaired. I will also be getting a wisdom tooth extracted and I can honestly say I look forward to that as it is long overdue. I simply did not have a dentist who I was confident in the past. Now I do and it is a team of competent people at the Joseph Bernard, Jr. clinic. Do not mistake this for another Neighborhood Health Center, as there are many, even in the Portland area.
