I had the steak and pastor tacos. They were filling and very tasty(two corn tortillas, onions, cilantro, and the meat) and come with two salsas that make for a very modest price tag of 1.49 per taco that is much more nutritious than Tex-Mex. I now cry a little thinking about all the more expensive, fat-filled "steak" tacos I've had at Taco Bell. I also had some tasty fried tilapia(be warned, whole fish!) and my friend, the burrito. If you're used to fountain drinks, you won't find them here. But they do have a very wide variety of Jarritos(sp?) fruit drinks and Coke. I personally recommend the non-alcoholic Sangria. Decor-wise, I read a blog that quoted an adage, the worse a place looks, the better the food. This is true here. The sit-down restaurant part is very small and both the inside and out look clean, but bare-bones; if you repainted your concrete basement 8 years ago and put a tv, some tables, and some chairs, it'd be identical. There are definitely nicer looking taquerias, but that said, the taste isn't as good. While one location had 20 cent cheaper tacos, they were smaller. These were much better prepared. Additionally, the kitchen looked very clean from what I saw. With pricing, you're looking at paying 5.99-7.99+ for dinner meals. If you're looking for cheaper, you can buy 3 tacos for 4.50 total and be filled. 1.50 for most if not all drinks. The exciting part, the service is good and quick. If you go during low-peak hours, you may be the only customer there briefly, they can take your order immediately. One note: I purposely spoke in rough conversational Spanish and they spoke Spanish back(instead of not letting me practice like some places do). That said, I don't know if all the servers speak English or not. Don't be worried though, the menus have both languages and your server will understand fine anything uncomplicated for sure. All in all, Rancho Alegre, while looks aren't impressive, has the best authentic Mexican food I've had in town(I'm on a quest to try them all!), it's value-for-dollar is really good, and I'm very appreciative of the friendly staff and willingness to speak Spanish with my poor attempts. If you're craving authentic Mexican food, give it a shot! *it might be a little hard to locate. Basically it's right across the street from the Churches and Little Caesars off Tennessee Street.

We came here after church for a tasty, authentic Mexican lunch. Things started off a bit rocky. The…read morerestaurant is listed as opening at 11, but they opened later than stated online and on the door. Our server was initially rude, dismissive, and short. I ordered a quesadilla for my children to share, and she responded with, "the lunch special isn't available, it says that on the menu." While I understand the policy, this could have been communicated in a kinder, more welcoming way. My husband ordered a soda, but it had no flavor and tasted only like soda water. When I politely asked if it could be removed from the bill and replaced with water, the server questioned my request and pointed out that the glass was full, which felt unnecessary and rude. My husband also ordered carne asada. The server asked if he wanted flour or corn tortillas, but none were brought out with his meal. Thankfully, I was able to share one of mine from my tacos. That said, as the meal went on, our server's attitude did improve, and she became more positive and kind, which I appreciated. The food itself was fantastic--my tacos were flavorful, and my children and husband enjoyed their meals as well. The salsa could use more spice, but overall the dishes were fresh and delicious. I hope the service experience improves, because the food truly is worth coming back for.

It has changed hands a few times in recent years, so the Mexicali is not quite the original recipe, but it is still very good. All of the food is Tex-Mex, but I have never been to a restaurant with food that is remotely similar. I also recommend the Mui Grande Nachos with hot sauce, and potato panchos. I don't recommend the hot sauce on the Mexicali, it detracts from the flavor of that dish. The service is a little weird. They have someone that is pouring drinks, and that is a little awkward, but overall it is fine. I think they did that for covid. Recently, they have vastly improved the look of the place, which always used to look terrible, but that was ignored because the food was so great.

Tacos N Subs?! Okay, I'll bite…read more For this initial visit we ordered tacos and nachos. Outside of that the menu is filled with tradition, classic Mexican fare and subs, obviously. The tacos are super reasonable priced at under $2 each. They are a crunch taco, which I know isn't exactly traditional but honestly there was a certain nostalgia to it bringing you back to taco night at home. I'm not going to lie, I thought the tacos were delicious. Well seasoned meat and loaded. We did the beef and the chicken with the chicken being the favorite of the two. We also ordered the nachos which are tradition nachos in that each chip is topped. Personally I prefer nachos this way as every bite is evening distributed. These particular nachos, however, are just served on half of a taco shell. It's basically an opened face taco. They were good but you might as well just get the tacos. The restaurant is kind of small and there isn't a lot of luster to it. I think this is more of a to go type place as there were a ton of orders going out the door but nobody really dining in. The biggest complaint is the wait. We ordered 8 tacos and the nachos and waited over 40 minutes. The place was somewhat busy but we are taking tacos here. The meat didn't seem to be cooked to order. It shouldn't take that long to stuff a shell and wrap it up. If not for the ridiculous wait I would easily give this place a 4 star rating. I've been told this is common with this place so just be prepared for it to take a while. IG: danny_fuelstherun
